Really expensive in the winter and the house was already getting very warm just from the brighter weather. Matthew worked with us from the start, asking what we wanted to achieve and offered suggestions for a ductless HVAC system that'd keep things cool but give us more efficient heat in winter, then provided a quote to install it for five rooms that was competitively priced. They installed the whole system in just two days! Matthew in particular worked with drywall and electrical contractors to make sure additional work was coordinated so the whole procezs was seamless. I was also pleased with the attention to detail. All exterior pipe work and wiring is neatly covered and has been run through the crawlspace. They stand behind their work. My ecobee thermostat was telling me that my furnace kept rebooting unexpectedly. They came out and did what they could. A week or so later I still had the same issue. So they came back out at no extra charge. Still couldn't replicate the issue but did a few other things to hopefully help. Still had issues a week later so they came out a third time at no cost to me. This time they were able to see the system rebooting every 5 minutes and diagnosed it as a high temperature thermostat issue. They ordered the part and came out again to replace. So 4 visits later and all I had to pay for was the original visit to diagnose and the part. Was very easy to text them and reschedule visits. I had recently scheduled a dryer vent cleaning for today. Emmanuelle was the technician who came out. He was very friendly and professional. He took his shoes off before entering our home- thank you for being so courteous. I showed him where the dryer was and where the vent exited out of the house. He did work on his own quickly and efficiently. He also asked twice if I had any questions about anything he was doing. He also did his best to vacuum all the dust from the vent that got onto the floor. When finished, he kindly mentioned that the cover for our dryer vent outside was old and had some sun damage and recommended we replace it. We have been a customer of Better Air NW for the last two and a half years, and their incredible customer service never ceases to amaze us. Earlier this week (and during a cold snap/snow storm), our furnace broke. Within 2-3 hours of our call, Better Air had a technician out to set up a temporary work around to provide us with a little bit of heat until our furnace could get replaced. As I normally do I looked at Yelp to find a company to inspect & clean our furnace prior to winter (didn't wait till we needed the furnace to set an appointment, contacted them in August). Was pleased with the reviews for this company (have learned with reasonable accuracy to spot flawed or phony reviews) and contacted them. They were EXTREMELY responsive and came out in a couple of days and were easy to deal with from a payment perspective (unlike others who penalize you for using a card). The tech was very respectful of our CoViD rules, seemed to do a good & thorough job, and the price seemed very reasonable given the fact that he was there for several hours. He gave me a comprehensive assessment of our furnace's condition after and answered all questions. I figured we'd use them again for future repairs and annual maintenance. Why not 5 stars? (as with others, wish I could do 3 1/2) One thing I discovered hours after bugged me and my "bug" was confirmed today when we fired up the furnace for the first time this season. A few years ago we had the ducts cleaned which still had construction debris from 2008. That company (not BA NW) did a great job of sealing the hole they have to cut in the outgoing plenum to clean them with a sheet metal patch, foil HVAC adhesive tape, and screws. Nearly air tight. This guy removed the patch to clean and inspect, but used the removed tape to "reseal". It was all wrinkled and bunched up. After a few hours today it separated from the plenum and warm air was spewing into our uninsulated garage. So now I've got to make an unnecessary trip to the hardware store (as a senior at risk) to buy the tape and take the time to remove and replace the tape and screws. Seemed lazy for a guy who didn't seem lazy, but my guess is that his truck was out of the tape. read more

Their guy showed up on the dot of 2pm, with their arrival window being 2pm - 4pm. I am a big fan of such punctuality! He was super nice and did an excellent job cleaning our furnace. Emailed them along with 3 other Yelp-recommended companies to install AC and replace furnace. Everyone was very booked up due to the crazy hot weather this year so I figured it would be months before the work would be done. They were about a month out for appointments. Matthew came out as promised and did a thorough walk-through. The work started a couple weeks later and took 2 days to install the AC unit outdoors, the new furnace and the new return duct on the upper floor. They came out again a week later to thoroughly clean the old ductwork. My original furnace was 37 years old so going from that to this new system was a serious upgrade. And now I also have excellent filtration and cooling too. The process was darn expensive, but not any more than the other bids. And I feel like with all the work and new equipment it was worth the cost. This was my first experience with upgrading HVAC and I'm happy it went so well. I think if you can budget the time frame, this is the place to go. My highest recommendation is given to Matthew and the rest of the crew. read more

This business wasted my time for months, yes MONTHS. I contacted them back in March about getting an appointment to fix a Daikin heat pump. I took pictures of the model number and read them to them over the phone and verified they serviced them, because I had had trouble finding people who serviced that brand. I know I did this because I went back through my phone and found my notes and photos from the time after my final call with the company left me wondering what I had communicated. They had scheduled an appointment with me back in March only to have the technician contact me at the last minute to tell me they couldn't service my unit until the temperature was 70 degrees or higher due to the need to have the heat pump test its cooling feature. That seemed reasonable and due to the problem of predicting the weather I decided to wait. I waited over a month and based on historical averages of temperature data going back years I tried scheduling another appointment for later in the Spring/early summer. Finally when the weather was definitely above 70 I tried calling and was told that I could not be scheduled because they were "working through their backlog." Um, hello? I WAS PART OF YOUR BACKLOG! Finally after several more calls and back-and-forths across several weeks I got a hold of someone who then told me they don't service my Daikin heat pump because they don't service those products. The lady I spoke with seemed friendly and because she took a few minutes to find Daikin contractors on the internet I am giving 2 stars, it was going to be 1 star. I didn't see anything on their "claimed" yelp page about not servicing Daikin. The lady I spoke with also admitted to me that even if I hadn't told them the brand and model info (which I obviously had), they should have asked for/verified it anyway, so either way they would have been at fault. There was no offer for a discount or anything to make this right, they did ask vaguely if there was "anything else they could help with" but I am not going to beg for recompense for all the trouble they put me through. Clearly they think this is an acceptable way to do business. If you do decide to use these people, make sure you send them all your device info including brand and model number and get them to PROMISE IN WRITING that they will service your equipment, otherwise you might wind up wasting your time and get stuck in a heat wave or cold snap with no help. read more

The scheduling process (scheduled online) was prompt, courteous, professional, and I received excellent communication with office pre and post appointment. Calling repair companies can be a hassle. You don't know what you're going to get and you worry that you'll be "taken advantage of" by folks trying to pad their pockets. Well no fear with Better Air. They do good, honest work and only do what's necessary. Justin cleaned and inspected our decades-old furnace and didn't try to scare us in to replacing it, as some other companies have done. He found one part that could used replacement, but even for that he said it wasn't urgent. We opted to replace the part to avoid a future issue, but it was nice to have no pressure. Better Air NW has an impressive website with high-tech scheduling tool to book an appointment, but none of that's any good unless the tech shows up on time. I booked an appointment for a heating system checkup and reserved a two hour window. On the day of the appointment, 30 minutes past the window, no show, no communication. I called the main dispatch number and confirmed that the appointment was in their system. Dispatcher promised to look into it, called me later to tell me that the tech had injured his hand during an earlier appointment, and all appoints for the rest of the day had to be cancelled. It would have been nice for them to contact me earlier to let me know that, but whatever... I was offered another appointment the next day which I took. You can guess what happened. Next day, no show, no communication whatsoever 30 minutes past the window. Called dispatch, who told me that the tech was running late, but I would be next in line although she couldn't give me an ETA. At that point I cancelled the appointment and went with another company (I had prior arrangements and couldn't be home way past the window). If I can't count on a company to show up during the specified window, or at minimum communicate to me that they're going to be running late, I'm not sure I can trust them to do the job right. Based on the number of positive reviews perhaps I got really unlucky with back-to-back no shows. UPDATE: Just got a call from Better Air NW apologizing for the bad experience and the caller even offered to come out for free to make things right. I do appreciate the gesture but since I booked with another company already I declined the offer. Updating the rating to 4-star to give credit for excellent follow-up. read more

Matthew was the representative sent from Better Air to assess our home for central AC. The first company, a competitor insisted they were not able to install central AC as our furnace and surrounding area weren't configured with enough space, they suggested transfer stations as a alternate. We did not want that option for many reasons. Matthew measured and spent the time to figure out how to give us central AC, he was reassuring and knowledgeable. Within a day he emailed 3 different price options for us to choose from, all reasonable and very detailed. We decided on the system that worked well for our budget. Matthew said he would contact us to let us know when the equipment was available and then to schedule the installation. Our wait for the equipment didn't take long, Matthew had a cancellation and called to let us know we would have the entire job complete in one day. Their online service request was simple, followed up promptly with a friendly call from the office team to ask some preliminary questions for the technicians (basic stuff about the furnace model, year, so have those handy if you book away from home), and offered a closer appointment (even on Friday afternoon)!!   Day before and of the appointment, I received email alerts reminding me about the appointment time, then I got this text about 30-45 minutes before, notifying me that the team was on their way, and trackable via a link in the text. Hold up...I can track the team's drive so I know exactly when to be home and ready? That's 10000% better than the other guys and the typical "Yup, appointment from 2-4, see you then."   The technicians were friendly, polite, clean (wore masks and shoe covers), and diligent chasing down all sorts of complications (closed vents, poor air flow, overheating furnace, possible damage, checking pressures, gas flow, filter quality, mending what I would guess was sloppy contractor work), even staying late (never felt rushed, but I'd guess the typical work time ran well over) to get the WHOLE job done and I never heard a single frustration.   What else can I say, except whoever does your hiring, employee retention, and technology are all winners. I have been so impressed by their service. So I decided to take a time to write a review. I have had them install a brand new high efficiency furnace and air conditioner in April 2021. Matt, the sales person, was really friendly and kind from the beginning to the end. He even went into the crawl space to fix some ductwork for us for free of charge. The furnace has been running great for 1.5 years. But in Nov 2022, the electric water pump broke and the water was leaking in my garage. I called the office and they sent us two technicians to replace the pump for free of charge within a few days. A month later, today, I found the water in my garage again because that the same pump broke again. We called the office at 11:30am and they sent the same technician, Audrey, literally within 30min. The problem was fixed by 1pm! They even installed a new GFCI outlet for us for further protection. All for free of charge. Throughout all the communications, all the people we spoke were very professional and they treated us with courtesy and kindness. This kind of electrical problem could happen to anyone anytime. He offered for the tech to come by right then or any other time. I appreciated that. I got my furnace from them, and have it serviced by them every year. I also recently got a water heater from them, which they don't really advertise -- but I asked because I liked the work they did on the furnace. And they gave me a super reasonable quote and did a fine job installing. I had to follow up since a couple of small details weren't exactly correct but they sent someone back right away to correct everything. It'd be unreasonable for these guys to do everything perfectly every time. I keep going back to them because I know they care about being fair, respectful, and making things right even if it takes time and effort. read more
