Don't know how they have 5 stars rating, but I would give 0 if I could. Called them earlier this year to diagnose the furnace, and a young guy came up and did the "inspection and fix". He didn't tell me what was the issue, and instead told me that since my furnace is "a very fancy brand", he's going to charge me $1000 for repairing it. Not sure why he was trying to scam a poor guy that lives in a condo, but I knew that I had to say no thanks. He left with happiness, though, because he was able to charged me $160 for parking his mini van on my driveway. The second day I called another business; their technician came and just told me that my furnace is just a 10-year-old machine that has broken components. They charged me $30 and fixed the issue. Oh, BTW, they also told me that the furnace isn't fancy at all; it is just a' regular furnace that everyone is using. Stay far away from this business, don't let them steal your money. read more

I called Better Air NW for routine maintenance on my gas furnace. The tech that showed up was thorough and courteous. She spent just under an hour and explained her findings. I appreciated that she did not try to sell me on any maintenance contracts. She just told me that I have a good furnace that should last for many more years. They charged just under $250.00 with tax for the visit, they charge a credit card fee of 3% so you may want to pay by check if you want to avoid that fee. I love yelp cus there is usually a reason a company gets over 200+ 5 star reviews. In this particular reason, it's because they are: honest, straight up, won't "up-sell" you, go above and beyond and have great customer service to boot! Miranda, who generally answers the phone, is always great to talk to, if she doesn't know the answer she will get back to me. Always friendly and helpful. I love talking to her. Shawn, who did the initial quote and helped install new ducting for us, is awesome. Not only is he knowledgeable (he can tell you everything you need to know about air duct systems and will take the time to explain it to you) but he is a perfectionist, which you guessed it: high quality work. Since I have an old house from the 1900s, I have silly setups like the duct going into the closet where some heat will trickle into the bathroom next door through the hole with a vent cover on it. He took the time to put in something that would divert the air above the floor so all the heat would arch away from the closet to the bathroom. From my experience, not everyone does this unless you ask them (and who knows if they'll charge you extra if you talk about it after the fact, as it's more "work"), only the good contractors do. Details matter, you know! Also he takes the time to make sure he does the best job possible. As mentioned, very old house, had some complications, so instead of rushing through the job in one day and moving onto the next job, he accommodated my crazy schedule and came back on the weekend (on his own time, might I add), to finish the job and tweak a few things to make sure it's perfect. I mean, he knows I'm planning to tear this particular house down in 5-7 years so I don't expect absolute perfection, but he still takes the time to make sure everything is up to his very high standards. Now you would think a company with such well trained employees would have very expensive pricing? Wrong! I called around to multiple 5 star yelp review companies and they were the most reasonably priced, by far. When working with contractors doing repairs on a house, you need to juggle between price, professionalism and reliability. The owner of the company came out in the summer of 2021 to give us a quote for switching over to a heat pump as well as buying a new furnace and new A/C unit. Matthew McKillop, was our main point of contact and the project manager who took care of us. Our project was scheduled during the global supply chain issues and it affected our installation date, but Matthew and Better Air NW kept in contact with us and kept us up-to-date on the equipment we ordered. During the project Matthew was very communicative and prompt with returning our calls. Matthew and Better Air NW also went above and beyond to solve an issue that was caused by an independent contractor on the project that was not affiliated with Better Air NW. In addition to a quick installation, the electrical and mechanical inspectors were very impressed with the level of detail and safety of the equipment installations and mentioned that the safety level of the installations exceeded requirements. We have had a nightmare experience with Better Air NW. They began a job to install furnace and heat pump last October. After putting the furnace and heat pump in the electrician said he would have to disconnect our hot tub to hook up heat pump. This was never part of the plan. Before they ever started they assured us our electrical panel was fine. The electrician said he forgot to check the panel because he had just had to move his elderly parent. First problem. Then they said to put the intake vent in they would have to move our water heater. Then suggested we buy a tankless water heater. Next thing a tankless water heater won't work and we can't move your water heater. So we have air conditioner that kind of works but not like it should since there is only one intake vent in the basement and nothing upstairs, a disconnected hot tub, a hole in our wood floor and a vent grate to nothing so second hole in the wall. I don't understand how they have such great reviews. read more

I just closed a house in Newcastle and didn't think the pre-owner paid much attention to its air duct and dryer cleaning, cause it was so dirty even by my bare eyes. Better Air NW ranks top in the list and the appointment is very easy to do online. Cory was sharp on time, diligent, detailed and has done an excellent job on cleaning my air duct and dryer vent. We just got a quote for aircon installation at our house from Better Air NW. The quote is extremely high level - it basically gives you total price and no itemized line items for materials/systems and labor. When I did some web search to find out how much key systems (external unit and internal unit) would would cost I realized why - actual aircon system (external+internal units) as quoted cost only about $4,000, while the total quote was for $21,000 + tax. Installation does not require extensive ducting, but even allowing few thousands for ducts/registers/permits - it is ridiculously high markup and extremely expensive labor. I don't think I can recommend this company to anyone. read more

Each time they have come they have been so respectful, honest, friendly, and professional. They talk through everything in a way that anyone can understand giving extra information and tips where needed and honest advice when asked. I have a furnace making noise and have this company to service it in March 2021. The technician noticed the furnace was near the end of its life but did the work anyway, and it died 2 days after. I had the company to give me estimate to replace it. The technician/salesman admitted the previous technician did a lousy job and even left the measuring tape next to the furnace. I got a quote with a promise to refund the service cost. I chose this company to replace the furnace and later found out they won't be able to get the unit until May. I chose another company instead as it was pretty cold in March. I hope to have my service cost refunded as the technician shouldn't have done it anyway, and it's not I who ditched this company but they just don't have the unit they gave me quote for. Update: The owner Justin immediately apologized to my experience and refunded me, and compensated me with free service. I feel he's sincere, and I feel respect. There's a reason this company gets 5 star review, and I feel the leadership is trustworthy. read more

I had a mixed experience with this company's technician and sales dept's. I called to have a squeak and other noises in my furnace investigated. I was really impressed with their scheduling process and the promptness with which they were able to get a technician out. The service technician who came out was was friendly and communicated clearly at first. He also observed COVID-19 precautions which I appreciated. He diagnosed a bad inducer. I expected some follow-up but I found that I had to drive the conversation toward getting them to fix it. It was as though the technician, having made the diagnosis, felt his job was done. I could see he had written "bad inducer" down and then basically just headed for the door. I had to take over and drive the conversation instead. After I moved into driver mode and tried to get some sense of what the next step was and what to expect, and found that some of his answers concerned me about the safety of running the furnace as it was, he went back to the furnace again and measured CO levels in the exhaust and then at each heater vent. He ultimately diagnosed some further issues and recommended a full HVAC replacement. Good thing I jumped in. The next step was for them to schedule the sales department to come out. It wasn't a smooth experience. They just dropped the ball entirely and did not reach out to schedule it. Instead, I had to call back finally four or five days later and then they were apologetic about not calling me back and scheduled a sales rep to come out. Unfortunately, the experience became more bland after that. When the sales rep came out he had a flat affect and went through what seemed like another diagnosis process on the furnace. He could not explain anything he was doing. I asked why he took the thermostat off the wall and he couldn't explain it. He only answered with the same variation of "to find out what type of furnace it is" after multiple times when I was trying to get clarity. (I think he was trying to figure out if it was a single stage or multiple?) I told him that I like to have a lot of information to make an informed choice. He said he had product information he could send along with the estimate. We also briefly chatted about AprilAire filtering systems and I also asked for information on that. I asked for estimates showing both the recommended replacement furnace and additional options, as well as an estimate on the AprilAire thing too. (He didn't sell it well but I figured I would check into it.) Days went by then I finally got a single line estimate from a generic email address. No additional product information. No mention of the AprilAire system. No breakdown of what the single line comprised. Just nothing. By this time I had already collected additional information from a competitor who was far more friendly, open, and informative. They provided line item estimates for five or so different possible configurations, plus offered a 10-year warranty, 100% satisfaction for a year, the first year's maintenance appointment free, and a rebate for cash payment. They told me when they could schedule the replacement, how long it would take, etc., etc. Does Better Air also do this stuff? I have no idea. They never mentioned any of it. It may be one of the blandest sales experiences I've ever been involved with. There was one follow-up email from Better Air and I just ignored them because between the two who would you follow up with? I can see that based on all the 5-star reviews Better Air is a great company but they just really didn't compete for my business and were very reactive, requiring me to be too proactive, which I just don't think most customers are going to do. read more

BANW installed my furnace several years ago, so it's still under warranty. We chose this company after reviewing 4 competing bids for its professionalism and courtesy. A couple of days ago, no heat. (Yes, we paid our gas bill!) Sent a "Help! No Heat" email and rec'd response within 30 minutes. A tech was scheduled the next morning to determine that a major part had failed. With Supply Chain issues these days, I was expecting to wait a week, using space heaters. But they kept sourcing and ... miracle! ... found everything needed later that day. The install was scheduled for the next day (#2 w/o heat) at 08:30a and they had it up and running by 11:00a. They also performed annual maintenance and ... bonus! ... solved a mysterious *intermittent* rattle. Communication via text, vm, email is excellent. Meranda in the office is just the best! I have two things to comment about: Furnace Maintenance and Duct Cleaning. My initial contact with Better Air NW was to schedule furnace maintenance on my Mom's house. I contacted them after getting another bid from another company (which was quite a bit higher) and after reading several reviews on Yelp. I don't write many reviews...and this is a long one since it is about both furnace maintenance & duct cleaning. From the initial phone call for a quote, thru scheduling and the actual work (both furnace maintenance & duct cleaning) all employees have been helpful, polite, respectful and informative. First the furnace maintenance (Jan 18, 2023) done by Audrey: she was informative & thorough and arrived within the appointed window. She shared with me the age of the furnace, the condition (which was good overall) and said it was a good furnace. I didn't have any information on the furnace so I really appreciated the information. During the maintenance she found an issue with some of the duct work (some of the flu was not connected correctly during the installation - by another company - so it was leaking into the garage!). Since I was going to have the ducts cleaning the next week she added those repairs to the work-order for the following week. The price was reasonable & the work was necessary. Now on to the duct cleaning (Jan 25, 2023): Matthew and Corey (new apprentice) arrived during the scheduled window. They also were very informative, thorough, polite and respectful of me and the house. Matthew informed me of a couple of other issues in reference to the ducts. One was he found another elbow from the furnace that was in need of correction so he took the time to go to Lowe's to purchase the additional parts. They did not overcharge me for the additional parts & labor (total for the furnace fixes was about $100). He also went up into the attic to properly attach the flu as it was not anchored/screwed in! During the duct cleaning Matt noticed a fair amount of insulation. He said it was probably rodent's and suggested I get an pest inspection soon. I had suspected that & appreciated the confirmation. Matt & Corey did a great job and I would recommend Better Air NW (already did to the neighbor). read more

I cannot recommend this company enough!! One of my initial concerns about getting my airduct cleaned is that I was afraid the company I find would just stick a shop vac in the vent for 15 mins and that was it. But NO! They did a phenomenal job. They had 2 guys who came and helped serviced my home. It took them 4 hours to do the job and most importantly, they did not leave a mess. They were very transparent about which vent they absolutely cannot access and how they will do their best to clean it from the outside. I also had them clean my dryer vent as well. What I liked about them was someone from the office called me the next day to make sure I was happy about the service they provided and asked for feedback. Not only did they provide an exemplary experience, we also now enjoy a state-of-the-art AC system that will provide comfort for years to come during both summer and winter months. This rating is a reflection of their sales process for HVAC install, which in my mind is a big part of the overall rating for a company. I originally used them for air duct cleaning and they did a phenomenal job at an attractive price. Their technicians were very courteous and I had nothing to complain about. Due to this excellent experience I decided to get a quote to add an AC system to my current Furnace. I was told that they couldn't install an AC on my existing furnace as it was 12 years old and recommended that I replace it with a new HVAC system. I was quoted a price that was better than market pricing for the installation of a brand new furnace and AC combo. Due to other projects needing attention at the time, I decided to not move forward with the install. However I was impressed with them enough to give them a call 10 months later when I was ready to do the install. By this time I had realized what the installs typically cost with a variety of other companies as I was shopping around. So it wasn't a surprise to me when I was told that they were misquoting lower pricing earlier and they wanted to revisit to provide a more accurate quote. I agreed because I had suspected that this was why their pricing was better than market average earlier. But when they did the new quote, they mentioned that it was now possible to just add an AC only to my now 13 year old furnace. Also, the quote for just the AC only purchase ended up being more than the quote for both the AC and furnace. While I appreciate their honesty on the reason why they had to adjust costs, I expected that they would look at my old quote to come in slightly higher to account for true costs plus some profit, and not just double the estimate. This was very disappointing and financially didn't make sense given the other quotes from competing businesses. So I decided not to get an AC installed through Better Air NW. I wish them well because I genuinely liked talking to Justin the first time around. However I really hope they take this feedback in to consideration especially when they deal with folks they had misquoted earlier. While no business likes to operate at a loss, doubling the quoted cost seems like a dangerous way to trade goodwill for operating profits. read more
