We're from out of state and we were looking for some place to buy chocolate bars. Not knowing the area, we looked on Yelp and found BevMo. What a great place! I went in there because I wanted some chocolate bars, but I ended up spending over $60! Not because they are expensive, (as a matter of fact, they have great deals) but because the had a huge variety and so many good BOGO deals. The employees were so helpful and friendly. I didn't get the young woman's name, who was very helpful and nice. But I did get Will's name. He was one cool dude! So pleasant and fun. He made us feel right at home. We'll definitely be going back there next time, we're in the area. read more

I called about a doordash order that was taking long without saying anything about having been prepared. I asked if the order was ready and if doordash was sending a driver to pick it up and deliver it. The man on the phone sounded very confused and kept insisting I had to come and pick it up. I said it was a delivery order to my house and that a driver is supposed to come take it to my home. He proceeded to say "give me a moment" and then hung up on me. I waited a couple of minutes to see if the doordash order status would update. When it stayed on "preparing order" after five minutes, I called again asking for clarification wondering if there was an issue or something. The same man answered, sounding annoyed and audibly sighing before insisting I needed to come pick the order up. I told him I couldn't, and asked if he needed to confirm that the order was ready with doordash. He then began loudly saying "thank you have a nice day" over and over again, and then abruptly hung up. Ten minutes later the order came (albeit very delayed), and two people stood outside my door repeatedly calling my phone and ringing the doorbell, despite it being a drop off order. They said it said to meet at my door. I never choose the meet at my door option because I have two cats that will bolt out the front door if I have to stand there and speak to someone. I do not know who manages this Bevmo, and frankly, I fear that if I call back, the same rude employee will simply hang up on me. This is unacceptable behavior from Bevmo. I thought employees answering calls needed to be educated and respectful. Not rude and dismissive because they're too misunderstanding of doordash. This is the last time I order anything from this store that can't even handle a simple order for ice cream on time. Do better, Bevmo. Nobody wants to call the store unless necessary, and nobody wants to be met with a rude old geezer with zero understanding of delivery services. Seriously. Ruined my entire week with your "thank you have a nice day, thank you have a nice day" bull. Either help or quit the damn job you incompetent loser. read more

Completely rude employee MIGUEL abusing customers and delivery is officially a problem. Ongoing for weeks. After making a purchase and retrieving a delivery all within the same hour, I entered to this employee completely ignoring me in an empty store. After 1 minute I asked for the order only to be rudely spoken to as he walked off stating he will get his manager. Telling the manager I was the rude one is not only comical but shows this troublemaker will lie. This is being documented as I will be turning into a legal matter if this employee gets away with this ongoing abuse to the point of other employees and management don't want to deal with him which is well documented. My husband and I visited the La Jolla store tonight. There was a grumpy sales person who was sitting on a chair and didn't even want to get up to help me when I had a question about a particular wine. As I was talking to him he put his hand up as a gesture to stop me from talking. That's a very disrespectful and demeaning behavior towards a woman. A store manager should talk to him or put him through additional customer service training. My husband and I were the only customers there and I only had one question. That's unacceptable. read more

BevMo La Jolla used to be my go-to, but after a terrible experience with manager Samantha, I'm reconsidering. I was mistakenly charged for a four-pack instead of a single can due to mislabeling. When I called to clarify, Samantha was immediately rude and dismissive, insisting I was wrong instead of offering a solution. I wasn't looking for a refund, just a way to prevent this in the future, but I had to suggest solutions myself. Poor customer service from a manager is unacceptable. Amazing staff and phenomenal place. The employees Freddie and Jean-Carlo are amazing individuals. Professionals over the phone and even more in person. They assisted me through my process of selecting a certain bourbon and even assured me it was in stock. This is how a store needs to be managed and ran. If I could give this experience -5 stars, I would. My daughter and I both ordered 2 bottles each of Crown Royal Blackberry. We both received notification the orders were ready, we drove from little Italy to La Jolla to pick them up. They are for some reason pretty hard to find. We walked in and informed the man behind the counter we had orders to pick up. He looked in the cabinet, left and came back, got my order and told my daughte, "yours is cancelled." O course she asked why, he said he didn't know, so another person, a lady appeared who very rudely said "it was canceled!" We both stated we knew that but why? She just kept saying "It's cancelled, i don't know!" My daughter asked if she could purchase in store. The woman said "Nope, we don't have any." we told her the website says they have 52 bottles. she said she doesnt, she doesnt know why it was cancelled and she doesn't care. I asked the clerk for the manager and the yelled out "right here!" As she walked to the back. I asked the other clerk her name, he ignored me, shook his head and refused to answer me. I waited until someone else came to the register, bought something else so I could get a receipt with the store # and survey on it and asked him the managers name who is apparently Courtney. Now once my daughter got home, my son in law called, asked if they had any and was told YES! This person instructed him to go online and order as many of the CROWN ROYAL BLACKBERRY he wanted. He did... with no cancel. why? why was one of our orders cancelled? Did they think more than 2 bottles of alcohol was just too much for two women? Love BevMo most of the time, especially for beer and wine. Liquor though is kinda hit and miss -- I have been a couple times for specialty whiskey and haven't found what I was looking for. But for the main stuff it's pretty reliable and usually less expensive than most grocery and liquor stores. This place is also pretty good because it has a private parking lot, and in La Jolla, that's pretty nice to have during business hours. Super clean too. read more

I went in with my boyfriend to grab some chips and non alcoholic sodas. I've never been to BevMo and was excited to visit their store only to be denied service because i did not bring my id. My bf had his and clearly i am not under age and we were not buying any alcoholic drinks. We were trying to buy some food and sodas. My bf tried to explain that it did not make any sense but the lady clerk was very adamant claiming very aggressively that this is CA state law. Which is not. "There are no restrictions regarding minors entering or remaining on premises licensed for off-sale of alcohol beverages or premises licensed and maintained and operated as a bona fide public eating place" (Section 25665) Not only am i not a minor, there are no state restriction prohibiting one to enter, remain at the premises selling alcohol. Especially when we weren't even getting alcohol. Which we've tried to explain but again this lady took it personally and again, pointed at a poster that had no indication of prohibition of entrance of the store based on their age and presented a very rude attitude treating like we are causing drama... Eventually I stayed outside of the store so my bf, who has his ID, can buy the items. And this lady had the audacity to tell my bf that since I'm not his "kid" they will not allow selling anything to him. Again, claiming this is state law. I am very hurt by this experience and will not be returning to any BevMo stores as I can and will purchase their carrying items elsewhere. read more

Big-box stores are boring and soulless, but when you're hosting a party for 100-plus people, you're not going to be able to get everything from the quick-e-mart. So I did my shopping here. Bevmo was pretty much awesome. I spoke to someone there about liqueurs, and she was really helpful. I later placed the order online, and it was ready for me when I dropped by to pick it up. After the party, I returned about 10 unopened bottles of liquor, completely hassle-free. They were even really friendly, which was nice because I was kind of hung over. I'll still slam Bevmo for being too big, which means they don't carry enough local products, and they do the membership card thing, which is lame. But I gotta say they really made it easy on me for this party. read more

I usually stop at Bevmo during the 5 cent wine sale or when we're in the mood for some gourmet sodas. This Bevmo is smaller than other locations, but it's convenient for me and I usually find something to purchase. Last time I was here, I picked up a bottle of chardonnay (usually $15 for $10) and a root beer for the hubby. Service here was great; the cashier was very friendly. I've also been here for wine tasting. They used to have it on Saturdays and it only costs $1 to taste about 10 wines. Who can beat that price? They do have a small parking lot so no need to worry about street parking in La Jolla. read more

As a result, presentation on the sales floor was ok, customer/employee interaction was haphazard (small spaces), and the selections seem crammed together. I escaped with a pinot noir and moscato. My boyfriend, my parents, and I walked to this location from our hotel. Shopped around and went to the register to be turned away because I didn't bring my ID. Apparently it's store policy to require everyone's ID to purchase alcohol, with exception to the woman ahead of us in line that had her kids with her. The balding Shaggy from Scooby-Doo looking guy was adamant about not selling to us because I, a thirty year old woman who very much looks her age and wasn't paying for anything, didn't have my ID with me. So, we go back to the hotel to get it, (my boyfriend really wanted a specific beer and it's the only place we knew had it, otherwise I would've just told them to suck a fat one and left) drive back, cause we're not making that mistake of a walk twice, and get our stuff. I still find it perplexing how my parents never got ID'd, and neither did the kids with the woman in front of us. I guess what I'm saying is, if you're going to have an arbitrary store policy that is most definitely not law, make it make sense. ID everyone. Preferably at the door. On our way to a birthday celebration in San Diego, we realized that we forgot the bottles of wine that we were supposed to bring as a gift. duh! I remembered that there was a BevMo here so I figured we'd just stop and pick up something. We actually weren't set on a particular bottle so we decided to ask for recommendations rather than search for the ones we "packed". As we were making our final selections, several associates stopped to ask us if we needed help and stayed long enough to pass along personal niceties which we appreciated. After selecting two reds, I ended up picking up a bottle of Veuve Clicquot for myself as well as a bottle of the Skinny Girl Margarita which I've had trouble trying to get at my local Encinitas store. Super excited that is readily available. I had it when we were on the East Coast last September and it's been a challenge to actually source on the West Coast. As I left here, I wondered if the prices were more because the store is located in La Jolla or if the prices have gone up. Hmmm...I'll have to check my local Encinitas store to get the scoop. It seems smaller than the Mission Valley location but they seem to have just about the same inventory. I suffered through downtown La Jolla traffic to get to BevMo in search of 2 specific "premium brews". After driving behind a sea of Bentley's, a Ferrari, and a guy riding what looked like a super expensive, hybrid spaceship, I made it. Although on my last nerve, I was happy to discover they share a parking lot with Longs next door. Thaaaank you. Upon walking in, I felt a sudden rush of sensory overload, as the rays of sunlight whisked in wavelengths that bounced off every single bottle in the store. Although I was in a time crunch, I couldn't help but wonder the aisles, eyes wide with anticipation. -Torani peanut butter syrup?!?! Gross...but who even knew that existed?!? -Key lime crystals for rims'? KEY LIME?! What happened to lime juice? -A drink agitator? Good to know that drinking is still possible with carpal tunnel syndrome! The store is mapped out systematically. The left of the store will entertain the leather darted easy chair-wielding serious hard liquor consumer. Behind that, the whimsical, little paper umbrella cougar crowd will happily sip and flutter their eyelashes. Towards the back is where a frantic high schooler will find a HUGE variety of mix-ins, mixers, sugar, salt, concentrates, straws, and sundries to satisfy even the most popular kids. Finally, the back right side deals strictly with beer. Domestic, imported, premium, shoobie-doobie, bougie, back-alley, you-name-it. In front of the beer (figure it out) is Wino Territory. Although the wine selection left me feeling a little lacking, it might just be because I'm not so knowledgeable on the subject of vino. (I like a bold Shiraz, but I honestly can't tell the difference between years, regions, etc. Shameless, I'm know.) As far as customer service goes, fantastic. While walking around, pupils dilated, I had 3 different people ask me if I needed help. (HA) Anyways, I finally relented, and had the last guy help me out. He pointed out basically everything I needed, and gave me good advice as to what he thought my friend would like...if he himself were an "ale man." The guy who run up my totals looked at my ID and told me I looked younger. I may be young already, but I don't think that will ever get old. (PUN INTENDED) BevMo, I'm impressed. If I could give negative stars I would. I stopped in to BevMo La Jolla, which I had shopped at many times in the past, looking for a specific beer (Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin - 5 stars to that by the way). They had it, but I didn't walk out of the store with it. My ID wouldn't swipe, so the manager came over and started giving me the third degree. Considering that it's obviously me on the card and that I'm THIRTY EFFING YEARS OLD, I thought this was unreasonable. He first asked for the address on the card. I've lived in 7 different places in 6 years, and couldn't remember which one was which. I gave him an address that I had lived at right before I move to the one on my DL. Then he told me he'd give me one more chance and asked me for my driver's license number. YOU'VE GOT TO BE @$%#@ING KIDDING ME. WHO KNOWS THEIR G-D DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER OFF THE TOP OF THEIR HEAD? I asked the manager that, and he responded with a smug "I do." Then he told me to try going across the street to Dick's, that they "might be able to help me." At that point I let him have it, but the damage was done: I didn't get the beer I had come for. I've experienced some crappy service in my time, but this is the worst customer service experience I've ever personally experienced (although the people getting their asses kicked by the McDonald's cashier in that viral video probably had it worse than me). As far as I'm concerned, this guy is a complete failure. His one purpose in life is to sell people booze, and he can't even do that right. This makes me want to open up my own business in the hope that some day he'll wander in and I'll be able to deny his ass some service. Worst...beer store...ever. read more

Any time I walk into an American liquor store I am reminded of the crappy selection we have in Canada, especially Ontario where everything is still government controlled. BevMo not only has a vast selection of wines and spirits but also carries everything else you might need to get your drink on. This is the only BevMo I've ever been to and I have to say they made the experience quite enjoyable! My friends have been telling me about how BevMo is like the Wal-Mart for alcohol, and boy were they correct! I absolutely get a kick out of looking at unique bottles and flavors of alcohol (even when I don't buy them) and BevMo did not disappoint. However, what made this BevMo nice was their service. My friends and I had a lot of questions regarding different types of alcohol and the employees enthusiastically answered all our questions..they even paired their knowledge with their interesting personal experiences ("Think of the time you got completely trashed from 151. multiply that by 10x and that's absinthe for you," "My aunt was having back problems and I slipped her some 151...worked like magic! She never complained about her back problem ever again!" The second time I went to this BevMo, I was hoping to find some Arbor Mist moscato. However, although I was disappointed to find out that they don't carry it, one of the employees walked me through various moscato options, asking me for my price range (I told him "Think of poor college student"), and recommended me the Barefoot moscato. Barefoot has since then become one of my favorite moscato choices ($6 for a bottle)! Plus they have what you want in quantity, esp for a party. They also have wine, liquor, and cigars.
