Very good bagels! Very good selection on different types of bagels. They also have a good menu for breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They have smoothies but can't comment on how good they are. I've tried to buy bagels here at least a dozen times over the years. I've never been able to put together a dozen bagels - they'll have 2-3 poppy seeds, 1 sesame, etc. I'm a BIG bagel fan, and have been to lots of bagel places in many cities/states. This is not a normal way to function - with so few bagels to choose from. And it's not like I'm coming during the last hour of the day or anything. If you're just going to eat a single one and are open to lots of options, you'll find something. If you want something specific and/or want to take a dozen or more home (my usual thing), then it's not for you. There used to be one in Terre Haute, and it was similarly managed - never having enough stock - it closed down several years ago. The bagels themselves - not NYC style or anything - definitely not the best chewy kind. They're perfectly edible - similar to Einsteins or something - but nothing worth the hassle they are to deal with. The muffins look cute, but I've never tried them. read more

I love Big Apple Bagels! Their homemade muffins are delicious! They have sandwiches, soups, lunch and breakfast and bagels of course! They have fruit smoothies and you can add protein for a more filling smoothie-peanut butter, protein powder. You can sit inside and outside too. read more

The bagels are great and the staff are always friendly and attentive, BUT the last time I was there (last week) I was grossed out by how dirty it was. The fountain beverage nozzles and ice dispenser were covered in syrup and looked like black build up of some kind in the ice machine dispenser. Coming from a restaurant background I could tell they weren't regularly cleaned based on the amount of build up. Smudged bakery display glass and dirty floors too. Idk if we'll be back. I'm pregnant and can't risk getting sick... who know what the back of the house looks like if this is how they present to their customers in the front of the house. Disappointed. read more

My wife and I come here about once a year, we keep thinking maybe we came on an off day, let's try it again. The bagels here are ok, a little better than grocery bread aisle bagel. I did enjoy my jalapeno bagel. My wife's sesame seed was a couple days old we guessed. She asked for onion. No onion - WHAT, no onion? I saw lox on the menu board had been crossed out and asked about it because that's what I really wanted. The owner said he used to have it but he no longer had a supplier of lox....in a bagel shop.....called "Big apple". That is just embarrassing. The dirty tables did not help with our opinion of the place. The staff needs to brush up on their memory skills because they had to have us repeat our orders, our very simple orders. Hands down the best bagels around!! Everything is made on premises in a daily basis. The coffee is always fresh and you have multiple selections to choose from. Dave and his family and staff do a great job serving their customers. We've also done catering from them and that always comes out perfect too. I cannot say enough good things about this place! I'm in medical school and studying for my boards right now and spend a lot of time at Big Apple Bagels. I was getting so sick of studying at Starbucks and Panera (and they're so expensive!). I decided to check out BAB in Avon and I'm so hapy I did! I'll usually sit there and study for 6 or 7 hours at a time. I'll buy both breakfast and lunch while I'm there and it doesn't break the bank! It's delicious and I never get sick of it. They also have an awesome coffee selection (like Chocolate Avalanche and Caramel and Banana Creme Pie). Occasionally busy in the mornings and on weekends but they're service has never been slow. What's even better than the cheap delicious food? THE STAFF!!! They're so wonderful. They don't mind me sitting for hours and drinking coffee and studying. They know the majority of their customers by name and are so so welcoming. One of my absolute favorite places to eat these days. read more

We have always liked Big Apple Bagels and it is one of my granddaughter's favorite places to go until today. We took my granddaughter and grandson there after school today as a special treat because we are leaving town for a couple of weeks. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon when we arrived. We ordered our muffins and drinks and sat down to eat them when we were almost finished eating the guy working there walked over to us and in a very angry voice told us that we would need to get out of there by 5:00. It was about 4:55 at the time. He kept saying that there was a sign on the door saying that they closed at 5:00 and we needed to get out. By the way that he was talking to us and his tone of voice my husband told him that he had a problem and that we would not be coming back. He said I don't care because I haven't ever seen you in here before. I have never been treated so rudely in any restaurant and will definitely not be going back. read more
