Very expensive. It wasn't big but it was bad. We ordered two BBB and coffees and it was as north of $30. For that I got coffee (one refill) two eggs, a overcooked biscuit and sausage and fruit. After one refill of coffee we were ignored. Won't be back. read more

Please reconsider the customer experience around seating and waitlists. It feels like the staff is more focused on moving a high volume of people in and out of the restaurant quickly, and is missing the importance of providing thoughtful service. Since customers cannot make a reservation at this location, I called ahead to join the waitlist. No one answers the phone; instead, customers are directed to Yelp. I went through Yelp, joined the waitlist, and arrived early. There's minimal space inside to wait for a table, and it was in the 90s before noon that day. I had guests from out of town, and we waited for an hour to be seated. Once we were called, they sat us outside with no fans or air circulation, and we were not notified of that in advance or asked if that was okay. When I asked to be seated inside, I was told I would be put at the bottom of the waitlist to start the process all over again. The Yelp waitlist form does not clearly indicate that you can request indoor seating when joining the waitlist. Customers likely do not mind sitting outside if the restaurant is clear about that up front. To be placed outside with no air circulation in 90+ degree weather after already waiting for an hour outside for a table, just makes for a truly unpleasant dining experience and feels like you aren't valued as a customer. I would recommend improving the waitlist experience and consider enclosing the patio with air conditioning or at least installing fans or air circulation if you plan to seat people outside without giving them the option to dine inside. It would help people focus on enjoying their meals and company a lot more. read more

I've heard nothing but great things about BBB! They delivered ! I had the orange juice (fresh squeezed juice!!!) and french toast with bacon. It was delicious. The bacon was so flavorful, some of the best bacon I've had in a long time. The syrup that came with the french toast is their own blend, it was great! . Bring your appetite to this place, you will need it. The Screaming Demon is one of the more quirky sandwiches I have eaten in a while. Great place fun food, friendly people. read more

I like this place. Good atmosphere. Good food. I admit I've only had the big bad skillet. It's just a solid traditional breakfast. Add gluten free toast and red eye gravy (which was durrrlicious) and you got some good stuff The yard work skillet I had a little bit of. Different, not for me. Thin and watery. Like a veggie breakfast soup. Everything else looks amazing. Fatback sausage last time was gooooood. But the people are super, super nice. Yummy yummy! Love this place! Best "cathead" chicken biscuit I've ever had (besides my own lol)! I will be back, and next time I'll bring my husband(he is quite picky), but I think he'll love it! Ehhhh, not a favorite. That's probably why it took so long to write a review. Nothing memorable. We got here pretty early on a Saturday morning (we beat the breakfast crowd yay) & went straight to the bartop to grab a seat. Now y'all should know me by now...I love a good cocktail. No matter what time of day. Judge me not lol. The first thing I noticed here was the ridiculous price for a regular standard mimosa. It was like $8 or $9 ! Wtf? For this spot? Umm no. So no cocktail for me. I really wasn't super hungry so I got the Big Bad Biscuit with the country ham. No sides. It was pretty OK. A little on the dry side but you can definitely tell it was made from scratch which is a plus. My date got the veggie scrambler. It was pretty decent as well. Overall decent service....food gives you that "old country" "down south" feel with homemade biscuits & their own brand of local meat. I would try this place again but it's definitely not my go to breakfast/brunch spot. read more

At 9am on a Saturday, there was a 30-40 minute wait. But, it's the week they opened, so that's not surprising. The cool thing about this place is that when you put your name in, you give them your phone number and they send your phone a text when your table is ready. My friend and I opted for a seat outside, given that our only options when seated were tall tables and to be honest, those bar stools do not look comfortable for long term sitting (figured we'd be there awhile since it was so busy). All in all, we were at the restaurant for a total of about 2 hours, but our waiter remained attentive to our needs. I got the "Everything" burger - it's a lot of food, but I have seen more ridiculous burgers in my time, so it was an easy challenge. It's a standard burger with lettuce/tomato but comes topped with cheese, chili, egg, and slaw. I had a side of the most perfectly diced home fries I've ever seen. My friend got the Yard Work skillet and added pork belly. When asked what kind of jelly she wanted, she was caught between raspberry and peach - and the waiter just brought one of each. Nice! (FYI, the raspberry was superior.) If this place wasn't convenient to where I already live, I would be hard pressed to make the trip out here, given the variety of breakfast options in Birmingham proper. But I will say BBB has a fantastic menu full of variety and surprises, and maybe it's good they were so busy because I needed some extra time to take in their offerings and make my decision. Also they have breakfast drinks but as of today (6/8/14) they have not yet acquired the proper license to sell. Hopefully that won't take too long! Definitely make time to try this place, and the earlier you can get there (they open at 6am and close at 3pm, every day), the less time you will probably have to wait. Ummmm.....how have I lived here for years and never been to Big Bad Breakfast? So many uneaten amazeball meals that I've missed out on. It's criminal! Fam and I went early on a Sunday. It's hidden behind the Krispy Cream at the end of a strip mall. Whatever you do , do not waste time at Krispy Cream. There was a short wait. We said we would take first available which happened to be outside and it was a nice day. Waitress was prompt, filled our drink order. In a truly unlike me manner, I did not order coffee and boy do I regret it now after reading the reviews of how good the coffee is. Oh well, guess I'll have to go back. The waitress came back with perfect timing for us to order. The girls each ordered off the kids menu, one got pancakes and the other eggs and biscuits. My oldest loved her biscuit. They make their own jelly, peach and strawberry. She smothered that biscuit in peach jelly and went off to breakfast heaven. Hubs got a biscuit and gravy. He picked the red eye gravy, they have a smorgesborge of gravies. Yet another reason to go back, must try them all! To accompany his gigantic cat head biscuit he got andouille sausage, which they made. Thank goodness we could buy some, they sell the bacon and sausage by the pound. If we hadn't of been able to I don't know if I could have gotten the hubs out of the restaurant. Me I went with the bourbon French toast, need I give a reason? I was a bit worried that the bourbon would be overpowering, but no, it was balanced perfectly! I got bacon to go with mine, unfortunately not the spicy bacon, I was sharing with the little one. Next time I will completely disregard the desires of my small leach and get the spicy. I had a hard time keeping my daughters little paw pads off the bacon, she wanted it all! The bill was a bit on the steep side for breakfast, but oh man, it is so worth it. Quantity, quality, service, all came together to make one of my top breakfast experiences ever. I'm sliding it into number 2! My number one is in Chamberlain South Dakota...and we will drive through that little town again just for the breakfast. The t-shirts read, "Lard Have Mercy." Haha. Finally got to try this place after waiting years, so excited. Chef/owner John Currence from Mississippi has won a James Beard Award, and my best pal enthusiastically recommended Big Bad Breakfast. David Chang of Momofuku fame is also a fan of the original BBB in Oxford. And Mr. Currence teamed up with the Jim 'N Nick's team to set up shop in Birmingham. All good enough reasons to go for me! Our large group was seated without a wait around 1 PM on a Saturday. Our waitress was beyond friendly, not to mention attentive and helpful. After much deliberation (if you like eggs, you're in luck here), I went with the Big Bad Breakfast skillet ($10) since it seemed to have a little of everything: three eggs scrambled, mixed with cheese, hash, onions, ham, bacon, and sausage. The meats are all actually made by Big Bad Breakfast, neato. Mmm, superb! Very filling and delightful. I recommend getting the generous biscuit for your side; it comes with peach and/or strawberry jelly, made by BBB. And butter of course. I was team strawberry since it was a little more muted on the sugar, but peach got love from our table too. But if you don't dig biscuits, you can request toast. Everyone else was stoked about his/her dish, and I got a few compliments for picking out Big Bad Breakfast as our brunch destination. Bathrooms were fine, and parking isn't an issue due to being in a strip mall. I'll definitely swing by BBB again when I'm back in Birmingham. With additional Birmingham-area locations opening in the future, hopefully an Atlanta branch will spring up someday. read more

Food was great but we probably won't be back. I came here for the first time today with my mom, sister and niece for a girls brunch. We were really excited because there aren't a lot of brunch options in Bham (and we were coming from Calera) and we wanted to try something new. We got there around 10:30 and put our name in for the table, 25 min wait time for first available. hostess wasn't super friendly - didn't smile or even really greet us. We probably waited 40 mins before we got a table but that's understandable; it was really busy. We were sat outside next to some trees and bushes, which in theory was really pretty and peaceful. Server came by, I think she must be new because she seemed really timid. She got everyone's drink orders except for my mom, came back with 3 waters, which was fine because that's what my mom wanted, & my niece got a sprite. Then things went really south. We were basically fighting off bees the entire time. My 61 year old mother got stung on her arm, at that point we asked to move to a table further away from the trees. They still were swarming us the entire time. We told multiple people that she was stung and there wasn't even an apology or anything, it was just like nobody cared. We scarfed down our food and ran out. It was honestly miserable having to fight off bees the whole time, especially since my mother was stung and my niece is only 12, had she been stung it would have been a whole other dilemma. And I understand it's outdoor seating, in Alabama, in the heat, but it's the fact that no one cared. I worked as a server and as a bartender so I also completely understand that places get crazy especially during the lunch rush, but when your patrons are getting stung by bees I think that should be enough to make you slow down and assess the situation. When we were brought our food (by a different server, not our own), they were a little confused that we had moved (again, a different server helped us move tables) so my sister was trying to explain that we were moving away from the bees and the server walked off mid sentence. Another table that was near the trees also ended up moving to the table behind us because of the bees. Anyway, I promise I'm not trying to be harsh or looking for things to be upset about, I rarely even write reviews and it takes a LOT for a restaurant to upset me. But this clearly did. Like I said, food was great. My mom and I got French toast. I don't eat meat so I asked if I could sub one of the sides in place of meat, she said yes but I would still have to pay extra for the side. I thought that was a little odd because I would think hash browns cost less than meat, but I paid for it anyway because I really wanted them. My husband, myself, and my family ate here for the first time today. We had tried to eat before but the wait was so obscenely long we skipped it. This time we joined the waitlist about an hour before we wanted to eat so we could get a table when the time came. Sure enough after over an hour we were told we could check in. We were quickly seated. I will say, the menu is a little limited. About 3-4 options per category. That being said they had both breakfast and brunch items. I got the Big Bad Breakfast Platter. I love that when it says the meal comes with "bread" you can choose either a biscuit, toast, or a pancake! I got the biscuit, 3 slices of bacon, eggs, and hash cakes. All were delicious! I went with the spicy bacon option and it was great, not too spicy, just enough to jazz up plain bacon. My husband asked my waitress to recommend something and she recommended the Shrimp And Grits. He said it was amazing. It had bacon in it as well as the shrimp! My mom got the avocado toast: it had a LOT of arugula on it. It was basically avocado toast with a whole salad piled on top. She picked half the lettuce off but she said it was still really good. My dad got what I got and he also enjoyed it. My sister got the pancakes and she said they were delicious. A side thought, nothing about the portions or the menu seemed "big". I felt like it was a little overpriced for the serving sizes, even though the food tasted fine. Hence why I didn't do 5 stars. We will probably eat here again, but probably will not become a regular spot. read more

I was told the wait can be a headache at this place, but when I went I didn't have to wait no more then like 5 mins for a table. The sever was really nice and friendly. This is a great brunch place! I've ordered takeout and also dined in. Service was good when we dined in. I would definitely recommend the plain egg and cheese biscuit. It sounds basic, but it's not like anything you'd get at a fast food place- the biscuits are fresh, and it's just really flavorful and good. I've ordered it a few times but it's always good. Also had the scramble one time which I wasn't a huge fan of, but it was ok. (The biscuit is much better IMO.) Definitely recommend! read more

Big Bad Breakfast was NOT that great. In my opinion the food was NOT seasoned to my expectations. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the waffle was extremely thick and unpleasant to eat. I didn't finish it. My friend who joined me for breakfast ordered pancakes, chicken sausage and potatoes. The only thing he ate was the pancake. Today was my first time at BBB, and I must say it was very satisfying. I judge a restaurant on three main things: Service Quality of food Atmosphere This place met and exceeded all expectations. I ordered the big lean breakfast, which I recommend. My only complaint is that the coffee wasn't very strong compared to "pikes place" coffee at Starbucks, and seemed more like waffle house quality. Free wifi would also be a plus, but not a big deal. I'd definitely come here again. It's about time we got decent breakfast joint on this side of town besides ihop and waffle house. read more
