Brings back memories of the old fishing hole and bringing home a stringer and my mom yelling "you catch um you clean um!" They also offer salmon, cod, shrimp and a few other species. Excellent! I had never heard of them before but I won some gift certificates at the Fort Wayne Rod and Custom Show. Thanks!!! The standard 3 piece fish dinner is one of the best fish dinners in memory. Everything was hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. I'm from Mississippi; these are my favorite hushpuppies ever. Even their coleslaw is excellent. Light, refreshing, palate cleanser. Awesome. Pricing is excellent and service was very fast, friendly, and the order was 100% right the first time. Not impressed. Went there because my boyfriend used to live in the area and raved about the fried mushrooms. He need his fungi fix so we headed over for an early lunch. I understand it's "express," but it was a little too fast-foodish for me. The lady taking our order was pretty unfriendly. My boyfriend's mushrooms were definitely brown, close to burned. I had a cup of the chowder which was pretty bad---it was like paste, super gloopy. I had an order of wings and while they were of decent size, they were dry as heck. Pretty sure we won't be back. He'll have to get his mushroom fix elsewhere. read more

Wife and I always enjoy their version of fast food fish. Today, I had the haddock and she had the pollock. Haddock was good and pollock a little over cooked. Sides were all good especially Mac N Cheese. Clam chowder was very good. Next time watch the timers a bit. Lobby clean and nice. read more

They're normally decent but my last visit to the one on State Rd 1 was horrible. The fish was under cooked, and the hush puppies were like mush. First visit tonight will be our last. Ordered the Big Eyed burger, and was asked what I want on it. I said I wanted it as it says on the menu, and was told "it just says that, it doesn't come like that". That makes zero sense, but okay. So I read from the menu board "bacon, mushrooms, grilled onions, and Swiss cheese". The employee at the counter said "I'll just put deluxe". An additional charge, but that wasn't a big deal. Until I got home and discovered lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion that I didn't ask for. I'm allergic to tomatoes. Another part of the order was a fish sandwich that was falling apart and completely lackluster. Husband said it was "just okay, nothing I'd go back for". So I've never been here before but I've heard great things and wanted to try it. To this day I'm still disappointed. Very disappointed and sick to my stomach that I spent $9 on a crappy meal. Drive thru I ordered and they don't have a menu board but they gave me a menu to look at. I decided on the BLT and jalapeño poppers. It only comes in one size. It's all made fresh but when I opened my meal, cause I ate in my car, the BLT was sliding off the bread and the poppers were such a small quantity for the price I was sooo disappointed, the. I took a bite and was even more so disappointed. The inside was this creamy green color that was soft and nit spicy nor hot at all. They were served with a side a tarter sauce that was sweet in my palate and made the poppers very unappetizing. Then I tried this orange looking sauce that I think was supposed to symbolize a Tex mex sauce and that was even worse. No heat no spice just a sweet almost thousand island feel to it. Ok enough of those disappointments Moving onto my BLT I reassembled it and the bacon was cold. Cold and greasy as if they were sitting on a plate for an hour waiting to be used. The bred was soggy on one side and when I added the Mayo and mustard that was all I tasted. There was a thin slice of tomato and two small lettuce pieces along with it. It left my mouth greasy and still craving something. For the price it wasn't worth it and I'd rather have Don halls BLT for cheaper price and better quality as well as larger more Ingredients. Big eyed lack all of that. I was so pissed at myself for spending almost $19 on a meal left still left me craving lunch. I was so dissatisfied that to this day I'm still mad. It wasn't worth it. After ordering they send you around the corner to the door to wait for your food. So they do prepare it fresh. But I'm not sure the bacon was. I waited 10' and I was the only customer. 10' of my time that was wasted on poor quantity and quality of food. Staff was friendly and you sense they've worked there for a long time. They were wearing masks but I don't know any other precautions as I didn't go Inside. I wouldn't go back here I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and I'll never get that time or money back. read more

Decided to give this place another shot, playing to their strength, fish. The drive through is filled with 4-5 empty cars, so that was weird, but at least the drive though entrance was blocked by 3 milk crates with a Festivus pole running through them. The menu is posted on a very large TV, and luckily, the glare is only really bad from one angle, the angle you see it when you're standing in front of it to order food. Only a couple groups mentioned being puzzled by the cars in the drive through, while I was waiting in line. I ordered the 2-piece, 2-side cod dinner, and asked how much it would be to add a chicken tender to my order. Since they don't have pricing for individual pieces, the only fish place I know of that doesn't, they couldn't sell it to me. I would have to buy an entire 2nd dinner in order to give them more of my money for chicken. I made sure I understood this correctly, and she opined that it would be nice if they could, because then they could sell more stuff. Yes, ideally, you sell more goods and services for money, at a decent profit. I was up-selling myself, and they didn't want my cash. The room was a bit warm, but the A/C was probably struggling with the increase in evening business and the foot traffic of people standing in line. Despite the tone of my reviews, I will concede that it is a good sign of consistency to have a busy rush time. The fish was really good. Even though the cod was a little stiff like it had been sitting out a bit, the taste and texture were still very nice, not fishy at all. The coleslaw was also very good, the tartar sauce is kind of the generic stuff they have at each location. The hush puppies though were underdone on the inside, and burnt on the outside. As an fyi, the Wells St. location does these just right. I think this is my last visit here. Unless this is in your back yard, I'd advise trying a better fish place, or a general dining place that does fish well. To be clear, the fish is good, and I'm not critiquing the staff, just some of the other items and some of the execution. This could be lots better, take the Wells location as an example. read more

Can not go lower than a 1 star review. This is by far the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Fish is not fresh and did not take a third bite, as I was afraid of getting sick from it. The mac "n" Cheese is bland "AF", Fried Mushroom had a very bitter aftertaste. The chicken wings had a taste of dish soap to them. After spending over 40 dollars on this meal, I threw most of it out and do not feel well after eating the negligible amount of food I got from here. read more

Think they forgot out carryout order bc had to wait an additional 15 minutes and heard the staff talking about what needed to be prepared for our order. Then they accidentally put a bowl of clam chowder in one of our bags, which we were unaware. Then after we left to return home and enjoy, they called us to ask us to bring the chowder back to them bc it was meant for another order! How rude!!! We enjoyed our dinner at Big Eyed Fish! The fish was cooked and seasoned well. We both ordered the 3 piece cod dinners. I had 2 of my 3 pieces broiled in garlic butter and the rest were all breaded. For sides, I chose the green beans and a salad and Ry chose the coleslaw and hush puppies. The hush puppies were delicious! The sides are $2.75 each ala' carte and very small. Luckily, our sides were included with the price of our meal though. We also received a dinner roll too. Overall, our meals were a good value for what we received. There were a lot of people coming in for carry-out orders and I think we will be more likely to do that in the future. Well, this is the last chance. We go to Big Eyed Fish Express to get carry out. This restaurant has a few locations, and typically their traditional breaded fish is fantastic. For the last few times we've gotten fish from the Leo Crossing location it has obviously been old fish refried, or been sitting for a while getting cold. Looks over cooked, is hard and tastes bad. Wish there was a negative star. We WERE notice I said were regulars here. 2 months ago we ordered 2 dinners and a large breaded cauliflower. Approximately $38 in food. Everything was horribly undercooked. I immediately called and spoke with Ebony in which she stated that she totally believed me and they had had several complaints that night. She said she would put our name on a board in the back and the next time we come in it would be on the house. Well the next time was tonight. We ordered, went to pick it up and gave our name and explained our story and we got told it has been to long and they will not honor it. Ebony never gave me a time frame I had to return. We are new to Leo so our mission is to try all the local restaurants in the area. As a family of eight, we are always looking for affordable and fast meals to bring our busy family together. I stopped in late on a Tuesday evening for carry out. We ordered the philly, a BLT, fried chicken, a BBQ chicken sandwich, a Big Eyed fish sandwich, and a grilled cheese. Most of the orders we had came with fries and coleslaw. We also ordered onion rings and fried okra. Being from the south, we missed fried okra and this establishment didn't disappoint. All of the food was reasonably priced, was well seasoned, and was hot to order. The only downside to the experience was that the "express" in the name didn't ring true. I understand we ordered a lot of food but there was little communication about how long it would actually take. Updates are helpful especially when you only have 3-5 customers eating or waiting on food. I can't think of any way that this restaurant stands out. There is no specific "wow" factor that would make this a regular spot to keep on our rotating schedule of places to visit. The food is decent and the prices are good, but service is slower and the overall experience is just "ok." Stop in if you are hungry and want some warm food from a local establishment. I was afraid to go here, based on the reviews. I talked to a few people, however, and they really liked it. So we tried it on Saturday night. We dined in - but most people were ordering food to go. We got 2 fish dinners with baked potato, green beans and hush puppies. It came with 3 good sized pieces of fish. The potato could have been better, but the hush puppies were great. We have passed by the Big Eye Fish Express every Sunday. We decided to try it tonight. First impression, the menu was on a television screen and so hard to read the cashier handed us paper menus to order from. We ordered three meals and onion rings. Our bill was almost $40.00. My son order the burger. He took a couple of bites and could not eat anymore. He said it tasted like a processed precooked frozen burger. My wife ordered the fish tacos. The cashier was unable to tell her what was in it. The fish tacos contained very little, if any fish. It was mostly cooked breading. I had catfish. The breading was good, but very little seasoning. The catfish was not flakey with no flavor. The onion rings were very good and came to the table extremely hot. I enjoyed the coleslaw. Hush puppies had no flavor, I don't believe they were fresh made, probably frozen. Our experience with the staff was good. They seemed friendly. They need more product knowledge of the menu. With this location being relatively new, I would have thought they would ask if we had been there before to make recommendations. For the price, we did not think the quality was there. Also, the entire restaurant had a pungent odor of grease and fried food. They may need to look at better ventilation. read more
