Just ate last night in July 2024 with my wife for "Date Night" I will start with the positives, the Bartender and Waistaff were very good. I also thought the decor and environment was nice. However, it went down hill from there. Our waitress brought out water, and I took one sip, and thought I was just drinking straight lead water. I couldn't drink it anymore. Instead of bread, they brought out saltines with Tunafish spread, which tasted good, and was able to remove the aftertaste from he water. We had Oysters on a half shell which were fresh(in their own water) and steamed mussels. The mussels were either bad or ruined by the water because I ate two, and nearly spit them out they were so bad. We stopped eating them and they were happily removed from our check without question. Then came my wifes Ciopino, had the same mussels, bad sign, and sword fish that was so over cooked, my wife couldn't break it with her spoon, and it was brown. She tried the clams, and had to spit it out, it was so gross. How does a Seafood restaurant serve bad seafood in the middle of the season? Terrible. We have eaten here 3 times. All 3 times it's been great and 2 of those times were in a pandemic or coming off of one. Service was phenomenal, fast and friendly. All our meals were delicious(there were 10 of us). I looked at the other 9nand were jealous that I didn't order those. I had a fried seafood combo that was probably the best I ever ate, barely bread and flash fried so you could taste the seafood. I can't imagine being within 30 miles of this place and not making sure I ate there. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews, maybe my favorite restaurant in that area. read more

First, I would like to say that we have been here many times previously and everything was fantastic. That is only thing that keeps this from a 1 star review.*I understand the current climate and can appreciate what they go thru. But some things cannot be ignored. Tonight though things have seemed to have changed. And not for the better. Service was bad. I mean baaaaaaaaaaad. Too man things to name. But basically everything that goes with service was awful. Waitress was not polite but rather rude and barely took care of us. I will leave it at that. Food was ok. Nothing to brag about. But food came out in shifts. Like a plate at a time. Very odd. Big Fish Grill has finally come to Ocean View! Opening in the location that was formerly Magnolia's, now those of us in Ocean View, Bethany Beach, & Fenwick Island don't have to fight the outlet traffic to get to the wildly popular Rehoboth Beach location! Same familiar and fabulous menu, fresh daily specials, and a few new items to try! New items include cast iron calamari and Maine lobster and crab man-n-cheese! Mom had the winning dish with charred grilled shrimp on a bed of Brussels sprouts and fragrant Saffron rice. Big Fish does a great job with their veggies and sides. I've never had a bad meal here! As a long-time Big Fish Restaurant Group fan, last year I downloaded their APP and joined the loyalty program (Like the SWIRL Club at Grotto's but more techie!) ....and after only a couple dinners, got a free lunch! W00t! Gotta love a easy & fun Loyalty Program that texts you with free stuff. I'm so excited to have this in our neighborhood! This is our "go to" place for birthdays and special occasions, or just a Saturday dinner. I also love how they have the party room upstairs for events. I can see that coming handy! Beautifully decorated in with white washed hardwoods, nautical decor, Edison lights, Compass Rose medallions over ceiling fans, and of course - some BIG FISH! The lobby area is particularly attractive with a fireplace, banquettes and throw pillows! And if you come on a Saturday night after 5:15 you're likely (even OFF season!) to spend a LOT of time there. It's a good thing my older parents like an early dinner (OK, so do I - don't judge me!) because if you come later, you're gonna WAIT. This place is that good! Only open 4 days and it was packed on a Friday night - I guess the south end of DE was Jones'n for some Big Fish! Will upload more photos soon! --UPDATE-- Visit 2! Had a great server, a local named Christy. The 3 of us also split an Antipasti salad app $6 - which was GREAT! Mom got the Charcoal Shrimp again $21, and Dad & I got the Lobster Roll $21 w/ sea salt fries & a substitute Brussels sprouts (this time a little overcooked & a bit mushy) Dad got their home made coleslaw. We got there around 4:45 and by the time we left, it was PACKED with people filling the lobby & even sitting in the vestibule! And this is January people - NOT July! But it's worth it! GO...go now! Recommended by friends, Big Fish Grill in Ocean View, DE was an overall good beach restaurant experience with flair. First impressions, feels a bit dated, like an iHop or a Dennys, but seemed clean. However, the typical "restaurant has a drain backing up" smell smacked me as soon as I walked through the door. First, we enjoyed the shrimp cocktail app... all the shrimp was submerged in a chunky, sweet cocktail sauce that totally surprised the pallette, but we loved it! All of the fried seafood my family purchased was raved about and eaten quickly. The Chesapeake Tortellini with Shrimp and Crab Cake was very different than anything I've ever eaten at a seafood restaurant, but I ate every bite because it was good. My wife didn't care for the Seafood Linguini, too much lobster and the lobster was dry. Caleb was a very nice waiter that was prompt and met all our needs. Again... overall good experience with a nice atmosphere and kind wait staff. We would return here again. PS- Everybody in our party froze in this restaurant! Very cold. read more

Little bit pricey Porkchop was tender needed a lot of seasoning in the sweet potatoes it had pieces of the potato and is stuck in it. You can go right down the street to Café 26 and get two porkchops for the same price much better quality. I have to say though the server was a very good young friendly. Yum! Nice, beach decor, friendly staff and great food. We came for an early dinner on a Sunday (4:45) and by the time we left (around 6) the place was packed! Our party of 3 adults and 2 kids (who refuse to eat off kids' menus) left satisfied at less than $100, including some drinks and fabulous seafood. I had the Summer Scallop Salad with scallops and peaches on a bed of arugula, it was excellent. My daughter loves her steamed mussels. My son had the lobster Mac and cheese side portion - it was plenty big for a 7 year olds entree and I couldn't believe the quantity of lobster in there. My parents (who lives in Virginia Beach for years and know their seafood) raved about their fried oysters and soups. We will surely come back again. read more

We were very excited to try this new location that was five minutes from where we are staying. We ordered the raw oysters, which were delicious . Also ordered the mussels and we were a little disappointed with the amount we received however they were tasty. I ordered the chopped salad with blackened shrimp and house vinaigrette and my husband got the fish tacos which were both amazing!! I ordered the sangria special and it was delicious and to finish our meal we ordered wonderful huge desserts! The Keylime pie was amazing and the chocolate peanut butter pie was so big we had a hard time finishing it! The service was amazing and very pleasant ! Fantastic take out service. Fantastic food and the perfect portions. I've been going to the Rehoboth restaurant for years while at the beach for work and for fun. This week my family is renting a home in Bayside and BF is right up the street. Every night we've taken out and eaten almost everything on the menu. Fresh fish grilled and blackened fantastic. Evening started with an hour and 45 minute wait for a table. Yes, it is a holiday weekend but we were told 45 minutes. Then, when seated, waited 15 minutes for a waitress, another 15 min for drinks and order placing and finally 45 minutes more for the food. On top of which, most of the dishes were mediocre or worse. Finally as we were eating the waitress came over and told us it was last call for drinks so if we wanted something more to drink we should place our order quickly! Honestly I'd probably give it 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. Situation- 6p on the Friday after the 4th of July, party of 4. Wait was about an hour to an hour and a half, we spent it enjoying some drinks and appetizers at the bar. 1) Ambiance- It is loud as all get out! I couldn't even think straight downstairs. Everything is decorated nicely, but it's all "hard" materials, and nothing absorbs the sound. Luckily, we were seated upstairs, in the room that could be closed off for parties, so we ended up closing some of the doors which helped dampen the sound a bit. It is nicely decorated and kept very clean. 2) Bar- Two bars, one large one downstairs, and a smaller one upstairs. I didn't know about the upstairs one until we were seated, but I'd try to sneak up there verses lose your mind in the loud downstairs. There were two nice bar tenders, but with the size of the bar, which serves the full menu, there were sometimes some long pauses between getting someone's attention. Happy hour was till 7p, and $1 drafts and simple well drinks, nothing to write home about. 3) Table Service- Our waitresses (had a new trainee with main waitress) were very nice. Unfortunately, they were running around crazy with multiple tables and preparing for a large party coming in, so they introduced themselves, took our order, then we really didn't see them much for the rest of the evening. Like I said, it wasn't intentional, they were just swamped. 4) Food- Food was pretty good. Looking at entree's in the $20's mostly. All four of our meals were nicely prepared and tasted good (which I half wasn't expecting with the amount of meals they were pumping out due to the crowd). It's one of those places that is good food, but the portion sizes are probably what they should be (not small, like some places), but after a long wait, you wolf your food down, and when you take your last bite, you just know you're a going to be hungry later. All in all, it was ok. Obviously the earlier you can get there the better. We called about 45 mins before we got there, and there was only a 30 min wait, by the time we got there it was up to 60-90 mins. Food and service was enjoyable, but the intense noise killed it for me. I found myself trying to stalk down the waitress just so I could pay and get out. read more

I visited Ocean View location for first time yesterday to celebrate a birthday. Wait was not long, service was good. For most part food was fair to very good. The pumpkin crab bisque soup was excellent. Sautéed spinach was tasty. 1/2 lb. shrimp, pork chop and mashed sweet potatoes were good.. would be even better with a little more seasoning!!! Now, the steak was bland, no seasoning. The gravy did not help either. Added some salt & pepper to make it palatable. I'be eaten at the Rehoboth location and all the food has always been delicious. After eating at Ocean View location last night, I read some of their reviews and several mentioned lack of seasoning. Rather than suggesting patrons send food back, maybe you should offer choice of lightly seasoned & heavily seasoned food. Thank you. read more

I have been to Big Fish on several occasions with my family. The wait is usually long but worth it. However, on our last trip we were seated upstairs instead of the main restaurant area. The noise was so loud that I could not hear the person next to me. We travel to Delaware to visit with my parents so this was very disappointing to not be able to have a conversation. I couldn't hear our waitress Ally (who was very good) and I basically had to yell my order at her. That can't be a good working condition for the servers either. Not enjoyable at all. I will never be seated upstairs again. Beware!! read more

After years of patronizing the Rehoboth Big Fish Grill, we were pleased to find a new BFG in nearby Ocean View at the site of the old Magnolia's. Arriving on a busy Saturday evening in April, we checked in with the hostess who asked for my cell phone (no pagers here). Told to expect a 30 minute wait after 50 minutes, we started to see more recently arrived guests be seated. On inquiry, we were told we had "cancelled". When we informed the hostess we had not cancelled, she then began to argue, stating we had to have cancelled. Finally seated after an hour. The lettuce wedge ordered was no wedge. Just a clump of lettuce with bacon and tomato bits. My blackened swordfish had no blackening spices and the mustard sauce had only a hint of any mustard flavor. My wife's chopped chicken salad was not chopped and the chicken was tough. Overall, this place is not ready for the Summer rush and fails to live up to Big Fish Grill's usually high standards. read more

Just tried this place for the first time the other night. The salads were really delicious. Dressing seemed to be homemade and the vegetables were fresh. The tortellini with shrimp had an awesome blush sauce and the shrimp also tasted very fresh. The crab cake had a couple of really small shells, but it happens. Highly recommend! read more

If you're gluten free or you have a gluten free friend and you're at the beach, definitely come here! They are VERY thoughtful and attentive to your food sensitivities. Although our wait time was longer than quoted, it was quickly forgotten with the sincere attention to my daughter's dietary restrictions. Once they realized she is strictly gluten- free, they sent the manager over immediately to be sure the order was taken directly to the kitchen and they knew the precautions to take!! They were also sure to tell us they follow various restrictions- including peanut-free, vegan, etc. On top of that, the food was fresh and delicious!! My daughter had the Salmon with sweet potato mash and broccoli-and I had the arugula salad with chicken- so tasty!!! Needless to say, we will be going back!! read more

Over the past 2 years we've tried this restaurant 2-3 more times as we like the big fish in Rehoboth. Each time it's been a big disappointment. We were at this restaurant 2 days ago. For appetizers got calamari and shrimp skewers. The calamari was over cooked and the sauces it came with lacked flavor. The shrimp skewers were fine but not something I would have to order again. For entrees two of us got mussels and one got salmon. The salmon was decent but the mussels were not that great. One of the mussels I had had a barnacle on it which one would think would have been caught by the kitchen staff before coming to the table. The waitress checked on us one time after the food arrived and wasn't very attentive. Funny how two locations can be completely different. Needless to say we've given this place several attempts, no need to return again. read more

Disappointing! Ordered pasta with mixed seafood. Mussels tasted fishy, fish pieces overcooked, shrimp & scallops just ok. Red Sauce on pasta tasted exactly like a canned tomato soup mixed with a can of milk. For me not to finish a pasta dish is unheard of! Husband order the charcoal charred shrimp. Overcooked and rubbery. Sent back and they took it off our bill. Sister in law order cashew crusted cod. Extremely small portion but she said it was good. Her husband had the fish and chips ... He said it was ok. Go again? For the price, probably not. read more
