My review is not based on the Burgers or the actual establishment. My cousin had some food catered and I thought, "Oh, no you ordered from Big Kahuna's?!" I have only heard bad stories about Kahuna's and a niece who previously worked for them said the cooks are not very sanitary (she could be a little disgruntled as she did get fired.) Anyhoo, to my surprise the food was amazing. We had teriyaki chicken, mac salad, kalua pork, short ribs. I loved it! I wasn't too thrilled about the pricing though. Mac salad was $25 for a small tray which is average and reasonable, but how are you gonna charge $25 for a small tray of white rice? LOL I could eat rice for a year with $25! $45 for a small tray of teriyaki chicken.. Hmm.. I think Kahuna's could work a little on their pricing - still the food was great! read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I had a really short lunch break and had to find food fast. I ordered my meal to go and rushed back to the car and back to work. When I first opened the container I knew, for the first time I can remember, what people mean when they say "my heart sank". I ordered the kalua pork & cabbage combo plate and the pork was... watery? It looked as odd as that description sounds. I have had kalua pork before (several times while in Hawaii) but have never had it look watery. We had the pulled pork and cabbage and also the teriyaki bowl. Both were delicious. Pulled pork had a rich flavor and the teriyaki bowl was not too sweet or salty...just right. Great service and fun vibe. read more

Burgers are great but you have to order fries on the side because they don't automatically come with them like most places. Makes your meal a little pricier that way. We learned that when we were there. We sat outside and service was still good. Minus one star only because of the fries thing. read more

This place is blah. Don't waste your money and gas coming here for a mediocre (at best) restaurant mentioned in a pop icon movie (Pulp Fiction). Our server was a sweet lady. Very genuine and kind, but pretty slow on the service. I ordered the mahi burger. Meh. Two slices of frozen mahi mahi pan fried and slapped in between two HUGE pieces of sweet bread and slathered in mayo. It was okay, I guess... We've been coming here for years. Great food and beer. Waitresses are very friendly. Chicken teriyaki and the macaroni salad are bomb.

Burgers are good and the bread is extra good! The chicken Terayaki is just right also...

Overall, I like this place better than Islands. I think the food was better. Yes, they are kinda slow to give you your food, but the waitress was really nice and accomodating. They have garlic cheese balls. Not as good as the ones from Big Kahuna in Hawaii, but tasty. I had the Surfer Sub. It's huge. The bread was really soft and reminded me of sweet bread. There was so much meat in the sandwich that I had to take some out just to bite into it. My friend had the Big Kahuna burger and I thought that was really good. Moist and really flavorful, not overly charred. A good place for a relaxed meal when your in IB. read more

Second time here and we came back because we had such a good experience the first time and the food was great. We got the same waitress, and she was on point again. Super friendly and always making sure we were doing fine. Gave her a $10 tip on a $25 tab, she deserved it. read more

The boyfriend has been wanting to try this place and tonight, I obliged. I ordered the short ribs and mahi mahi plate combo. I normally love short ribs but was highly disappointed with the amount of edible meat that was on my plate. I had 2 small bites of meat TOTAL from a half order after discarding the bones and abundance of fat. The mahi mahi was dry and lacked any type of flavor until I added lemon and teriyaki(that I had to ask for). The bf had the pork sandwich and onion rings, both just standard. It was definitely overpriced for the quality and amount of food. They get 2 stars because the service was good and the food was timely. We do not plan on coming back. read more

I noticed the coconut shrimp on the appetizer list...and omgoodness it is the freakin best ever!!!! You must try it! The service continues to be great there...very friendly and welcoming... I always get my fav there which is the pork and cabbage... I always splash their hot sauce on it and its ready to chow down... My son loves their chicken strips and this is one place we dont have to fight our picky eater to go to... This is always a must go to... Will always be back! read more

Hey guys this place is pretty fantastic. Went with a buddy and got our food to go. The girl working there was super nice, and was a champ to endure a super complicated order.... well props to the cook for getting it right. Me and my buddy split 2 burgers, just to get a sampling of each, and honestly we couldn't decide which was better. Definitely hit the spot. Looking forward to our next visit. We have lived in IB for over 5 years and finally made the time to check out this place. I LOVED their teriyaki chicken and sticky rice. My BF had the ribs and said they were yummy and my son had the BBQ burger which he couldn't finish due to the large portions. The service is very friendly and we have every intention of going back. Stayed in imperial beach for a couple nights and dropped in for an early dinner after spending our day in San Diego. I had the pork and cabbage plate that came with sticky rice and a side of macaroni salad, and my wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It's a ton of food - my plate was quite full and my wife's sandwich was the size of her head, which made us both laugh. Nothing fancy, but tasty and fun, which counts for more in my book. Friendly staff! Xtra Star for the following: We accidentally left our 11 month old's sippy cup behind, and arrived the next day unannounced to see if they had it. Great atmosphere, service and nice variety of beers. However, the bun over powers the burger, huge Hawaiian bun that is a waste,find a smaller bun and you will have a better tasting burger thats easy to bite in to! Also, open side choices to include French fries. Rice on the side is the Hawaiian tradition but one needs to adjust for Californians and we need a good burger place in imperial Beach! read more

Such a hidden a gem! Stop here on a whim because I was craving a burger with some island flair. Was not disappointed. The portions were an amazing value and the food was delicious. My son enjoyed his burger but I was not impressed with my pork and rice bowl. It was ok but nothing to rave about especially since I am not a big meat eater. But what turned the night around for me and makes me give this place for stars is the amazing service from the waitress. She knew I was not happy with what I had ordered and even though I told her it was not necessary she brought me a salad out on the house. That kind of service is the way to keep a customer! Even though I was not happy with my meal I would go back again and again and try other things on the menu because of the way she handled things! I'm not sure of her name but she is the best!
