Customer service was 5 Star and I give them 4.5 stars overall. Would have been 5 stars if their prices were the best I could find. I actually only found 1 place cheaper ( was looking for 4 tires for my Toyota FJCruiser 4x4) and I looked all over from Concord to San Pablo to Dublin. The price difference was only about $5-$8 different per tire, and with how close Big O Tires was to me, going to them was more convenient. After getting my new tires, I returned about 5 months later with a flat on my brush cutter which has go cart size tires. Not only did they take the time to help me right away, they remembered me and fixed that flat free of charge! Great guys down there! read more

Went to Big O today with no appointment to have a new tire purchased because I had a flat when I came out in the morning to my car. They fixed the tire (pulled the nail and patched it) and put the spare back, replaced the tire on my car and did it in 45 minutes! They only charged me $35! Whew! Love this place. Been bringing our cars here for tire changes, rotations, alignments, brakes and even oil changes for years. On my most recent visit for new tires on my Honda Pilot, Justin upgraded my tires to a higher priced set for free when they discovered that one of the original tires I ordered was mismarked with the wrong size... I have never been let down by Big O, no matter what location. This Big O has such great service and friendly staff, and I would highly recommend them to anyone!!!! I take my car and truck here for oil changes regularly and have bought tires for my horse trailer at a great price. My truck recently had a issue and I had to get it towed to a shop . I immediately called Big O, and they told me to bring it in - thank god they are open on the weekends. They knew I needed it fixed ASAP since I was using it for towing to an event the next day, and they fixed it within a few hours. Luckily it was only a small fix, but I so much appreciated their friendliness and timeliness. It could have been stuck at a shop for days. We have three cars in our home and all of them have a full set of tires we bought at this store. I switched to Big O several years ago when another tire dealer in the area let me down. I have never regretted making this switch. I consistently get good service and great prices on tires that are reliable, safe and generally long lasting. A great set of tires can make a used car a joy to drive, and that's true of all our cars. I put a new set of Michelins recommended here on my Acura MDX and I almost couldn't believe the difference they made, especially on hilly and curvy terrain. They're also good at taking my wife to work and picking her up when her car service is finished. No one is perfect and I do have a couple of minor issues. The place sometimes gets so busy it can be hard to connect with them on the phone. Also, I have the occasional low tire pressure in cold weather on my Acura, meaning I need to go in and get the nitrogen level adjusted. But really, these guys do a great job. read more

Very happy with my experience here. Was able to drop my car and keys off after hours, which was convenient. The next morning we discussed replacing my flat tire, which was luckily under warranty. I picked up the car the next day, prices were reasonable (just paid for labor, tire disposal--not much), the guys in the store were friendly and helpful. Store was clean and is conveniently located. They also have a shuttle if needed. Don't understand the negative reviews. You can check all the prices online on the BigO website, so prices should not be a surprise. A balancing update. The Hunter 9000 road force balancer is a wonderful machine. However, finding a shop that has one, and has someone who knows how to use it seems impossible. After a good previous experience at this BigO, I came back with 2 new tires. I got them online since BigO's supplier seemed to think they were discontinued. No one seems to have told Cooper or Jack Roush about that, but the online price was great. When I came to pick up the car, they told me the tires had 45 lbs of radial force imbalance, way over the standard of 26 lbs. I asked what the force was before rotating the tires on the rims, and got a blank look. I asked for a printout and was told the printer was broken. When I looked at the mounted tires, both red dots were perfectly lined up with the stems. The chances of the 9000 causing that to happen are about the same as winning Mega Millions. It was clear the tech had not rotated the tires on the wheels before balancing them. That said, the actual balancing was OK, so I am just driving with them. The quest for a good road force balance will go on. Don't pay extra for road force here, the standard balance is OK. read more

I have come here several times for my tires over the years due to the convenience only. Certainly not the customer service. They once sold me a set of chains for my SUV. I took them to Tahoe and in a snow storm, I tried to place them on, only to find out that they sold me the wrong ones. I had to buy another set at a higher cost and trouble. When I brought them back, they immediately did not believe me, made me wait while they lifted my SUV to check, then after a long wait, gave me back my money but never apologized and said it was not their fault. Recently when I came in right on time for my appointment, I was boldly reprimanded for coming on time. I should have come earlier, I was told. They used the analogy of a Doctor's office which was nonsensical. Basically got a lecture for being on time. I finally decided to stick w my local gas station repair shop when I was recently also sold a bill of Goods and went for a second opinion. Not all, but several of those men at the desk are pretty arrogant and do not treat or talk to women as customers. Instead, as if we are pretty clueless. They forget who is paying the bill in the end. read more

I have been going to this place for years now, and yes, they don't do ALL services, but they do what they do extremely well. Had to take my car there few times with issues, they always provided me with excellent service and never tried to sell me stuff I don't need. In fact just recently I brought in my car with a temperature issue, they tried to recreate it, couldn't and did not charge me a thing. Service doesn't get any better than this. Bought tires probably two years ago for my truck. Had a flat a couple of days ago. AAA changed it. I took the tire in and they fixed it, called me at work and I took the truck over and they put the fixed tire back on. All with a smile and courtesy. Never asked me for a dime. These guys are great. I do not recommend this business. Last week I brought my husband's car in for an apparent slow tire leak. The person condescendingly asked me if there had been ANY place I could have possibly stopped for air between my home and Big O. When I was confused by the question and asked for clarification, he asked if I could have put air in the tire either at home, or at a gas station on the way, because I could have caused damage by driving on a low tire. Hello??? Of course I COULD have put air in the tire but did not because I was on my way to get it repaired. The tire was repaired and there was no extra damage. That same day I received a promo in the mail with the person's photo - the same guy who had been so condescending is, guess what, the owner himself. Several months previous to this experience, I brought a different car in to have the tires balanced. The same person looked at the tires and pointed out that he could see I had purchased the tires at Costco, not Big O, and proceeded to tell me why that was such a big mistake. I then sat and waited for over 2 hours for the service to be finished. It was not until I asked whether I should have my husband pick up our kids from school that, miraculously, the car was ready. I suspect that I was made to wait, or else was forgotten, because I had purchased the tires at a different business. My husband was disgusted by both of these experiences and doubts that he would have been treated so badly in the same situation. HOw about YOU? read more

Terrible service! Owner is rude and obnoxious, went in to buy new tires, was told I needed wheel alignment, got a call to tell me my car was ready. Went in, car was NOT ready, had to wait 45 minutes, then drove off and realized that my steering wheel was now not centered and had to hold it at an angle to drive straight, went back and owner gave me attitude, told me it was "cosmetic" and that I was "pushing it".... Wait times can get long during the couple days leading up to a winter holiday weekend, but that's expected with the amount of folks heading up to Tahoe and leaving new tires till the last minute (I'm guilty!). I was able to get my car serviced right away, he set an expectation for when it would be complete and exceeded it, and remembered who I was when I came back in the store. I was embarrassed to ask these guys for help with my problem, but they were awesome. I couldn't put the new stickers on my plates because the license plate frame stuck out over the sticker. And it needed a square head screw driver bit to remove, which I didn't have. The guy at Big O grabbed his drill driver and popped those frames off for me on the spot. He even wiped the spot clean with his sleeve! Then he waited while I put the new tags on, then replaced the frames. And REFUSED to take any money for it. I brought my jeep JKU into for a simple oil change and tire rotation. I explained how I would like the tires rotated and they refused. They would only rotate it their way. I said ok. I then requested what pressure I wanted the tires set to and they said they required the tires to be inflated to 45 PSI! I then explained that I have never had them that high and that is even significantly above the stated manufactures max PSI. They stated that since they were oversized tires they must be inflated to "higher" than the manufactures specifications. I picked up the vehicle and the tires were not rotated even to the way they had required. I had to make another appointment for this. I took it back and they corrected the tire rotation. When I got the vehicle home, the back brake light was broken, and covered by the center cap of the spare tire. The lug nuts 2/3 on the spare tire were loose. Then I had to correct the air pressure in all my tires.- Big O Lafayette may be OK for a factory spec vehicle, but for anything with any modification they are inflexible, not willing to work with the customer and somewhat careless. Leaving the lug nuts loose, even on the spare is not acceptable. No confidence going forward. read more

These people are incompetent and they lie. I had to replace two tires and get an alignment. I called first and made an appointment. When I came in Joel could not find any information about the appointment. Jason, the manager, had to show him where to look. Joel then went outside with me and my husband and looked at the car. We told him it was a hybrid. He came in and told us about 4 different tire brands we could choose from. Jason again intervened and told Joel that only two tire brands, Michelin and Goodyear, could be used with a hybrid. Then Joel tried to sell us a 3-year warranty at $20 per tire. He said there was also a one year warranty for free that came with the tires and didn't have to be purchased separately. Since we are probably going to sell the car within a year we decided not to buy the 3 year warranty. When I went to pick up the car tonight I asked the guy who checked me out to show me where the one year warranty language was. He said there is no one year warranty. He said they will pull nails out of the tire for the life of the tire but that's all they'll do. When I told him Joel told my husband and me there was a one year warranty he called Joel over. Joel stood there and lied and said there is no one year warranty. I reminded him that just 3 hours earlier he told us there was a one year warranty. He repeated there was no one year warranty. I asked to talk to the manager Jason and waited for him to come over but he never did even though he was standing about 10 feet away. He continued talking to a co-worker (the store was closed by then and I was the last customer) so I left. read more

Had what looked like a nail in right front tire and a screw in left front tire. Had been a Big O customer at another franchise but this store is near my office. The guys found that the nail was a rock and the screw had not punctured the tire to cause a leak. Checked the brakes, aired the tires and did not charge a penny. Simply put: look around and ask around before you use this store. I've had two sets of tires put on my car here over the years, and have been satisfied. A gentleman named Justin helped me both times and I thought he was fair and competent, as was the work. So I sent my wife there. In Jan '12, I called Big-O Lafayette and spoke with Craig. I asked about a specific Michelin tire for my wife's car. He said he had it, and she should come in that afternoon because they had time to get it done. When my wife arrived, Craig informed her he did not have the Michelin tire I specifically asked for (and got a quote for from Craig) in the store (um, did we not just talk about that tire?); he could get the Michelin by the next morning, or he could put on another tire that was almost the same price right then and my wife wouldn't have to come back. BAIT & SWITCH. My wife called me and asked me what to do; I said wait until the next day for the Michelin tire. Ironically, when my wife relayed that she would wait, Craig "remembered" that the alternative tire currently had a $25/tire discount offer on them. Gee - that would have been good to know when he first quoted the price to my wife without the discount! Things started to smell funny. We decided to wait for the Michelin tires. While in Walnut Creek, my wife called the Big-O Walnut Creek. They were very nice, told her that while they didn't have the tire we wanted on hand, they could get it from the warehouse in Pleasant Hill and be ready to change her tires that afternoon. Moreover, they informed her those tires had a $70-off coupon during January. (Later, I saw this coupon was on the WC Big-O website, but not the Lafayette Big-O website.) My wife called Craig in Lafayette and told him she would not be needing the tires as she was getting them in Walnut Creek and that they had a $70-off coupon. At which time Craig told her he could match that $70 coupon... all Big-O's had that coupon. Gee - that would have been good to know when he first quoted the price for the Michelins - must have entirely slipped his mind. Look, I can overlook one mistake. Maybe two. But I called and was explicit about what I wanted, was told they had them and could be installed, was never told about any discount. Then when my wife got there, BAIT & SWITCH. And even then not told about the discount on the alternative tires until my wife was walking away. Not okay. Thank you Walnut Creek Big-O for excellent service. read more

I just now signed up with Yelp in order to write this review. Like others have written, if I could give zero stars I would. Over the last 25 years I've given Big O in Lafayette 2 - 4 chances to win my business. Each time their prices were higher than elsewhere. Plus, when I have gone there in person for quotes ,it always seems like they think they are pro sales closers, always trying to smoothly upsell. Further, they use a sales tactic they must think works which is characterized by a cavalier, "we're the experts" attitude... It's funny to witness for someone who's been in sales a long time. What it comes down to is that most people know very little about cars and things mechanical. Plus, Lafayette is an affluent area, so alot of people just blindly obey and agree to whatever they say. Last, it's a matter of convenience for Lamorinda people... About my most recent experience- Had a slow leak in a tire on a Porsche Cayenne we bought used from a local guy. This guy bought the tires recently from Big O as well as all his tires for all his cars. (Hopefully, I'll convince him to never use them again. ) I pumped it up at home and drove to Big O. I pulled into a spot in front of the store, so the guy saw the tires in question are expensive... I asked if tires purchased there have lifetime free repair. Answer was "yes". I explained that we recently bought the car used, and that the tires had been purchased at that store. The guy asked if i bought it from a family member; I answered "no". He then (seemingly gladly) told me the repair guarantee is only good for original purchasers, or if I'd have bought from a family member... I thought, "C'mon buddy, you're actually going to try to scam me for a lousy tire repair?" I told him it was ok , that I'd go to America's Tire in Walnut Creek. They fix tires for free no matter where purchased. It's a marketing tactic. A good one. He, with an "I don't care what you do" look and tone said, "ok". To waste my breath but to make a point, I advised him that he just had an opportunity to win a new customer with a simple, easy screw in tire fix. Instead, he tried to upsell... Dumb... I should have had fun with it and let him tell me the cost to fix... It probably would have been high & then they probably would have tried to sell me some other scam. So, I'm writing this in the lobby at America's Tire in WC. Getting fixed free. I've been buying tires from this place for a long time. Never a bad experience. Sure, they will also try to sell things... They're in business to sell and make money. But, Big O has a smug attitude and they seem definitively trained to upsell to the point of unethical tactics. People in Lamorinda often get hit with the "Lamorinda premium"... over-charged because we live in an expensive area. Big O in Lafayette just stinks. Their smug attitude is laughable... I came in for an oil change and rotation. I know what an air filter is for. This guy walks up to me and tries to tell me my air filter is dirty and he just so happens to have a replacement for me. My car is equipped with a washable air filter, you don't need to buy a new one. Just wash it. I cut him off right there. I don't like being made a fool. Well, good luck making that appointment. I called three different times today; the first two times, I hung up after waiting five full minutes on hold. On the third time, I said that I did not want to be put on hold because those calls were ignored forevermore. The guy got really snippy and said that they they were dealing with all of the people standing in line there first. I do think it is for the best that I go to a different Big O, as this is the outfit that tried to charge me $1,100 for a brake job that I ended up paying $350 for at a reputable mechanic's shop in Lafayette. if I could give 0 stars I would. One would think because its "Big O Tires" that service would be close to bar none, on top of having the tire you need. I walked in with out an appt. at 8:25AM on a Tuesday morning, and made the joke oh I would hope I don't need an appt- the guy helping me goes and is SERIOUS "well YES everything around here requires an appt" I said umm ok well I have a flat tire, He goes well what do you mean its flat you drove here... For starters the taste in my mouth was already sour. So I said you're welcome to come out and look at it and take down the measurements to see if you have the tire. He goes what type of car- I proceeded to tell him he goes oh yea we wont have that for sure. JUST A NEGATIVE NELLY about the whole thing. In a nut shell AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. however I will say the mechanic who helped me put air in my tire was SUPER NICE and helpful. I ended up going in to the office (driving to Oakland) on a flat (thank goodness for run flats) I called Orindas Tire, JJ was super courteous and helpful, took all of my information and promised the tire in by 3 I asked if I can come at 6pm due to work conflict and he gladly said yes and gave me an out the door quote before we hung up the phone. I look up the reviews at Tire Rack and I check around at other places and when all is said and done, I feel I get the best service and product at Big O in Lafayette. They tell me my options and confirm why what I picked out is or is not the best product for my cars. Often times they recommend ​less expensive options which happened just last week. This Big O Tires is just different, and they don't package you to buy things, they just leave everything optional for you.
