These folks are amazing. Although they were quite busy, they fixed my flat (was under warranty) and I didn't even have to get out of the car, which is the main reason why I was so thrilled. I had two kids in the back and they WOULD NOT have had fun (nor I) in the lobby waiting for our turn (we read books and had snacks in the car). In an industry where it's so hard to get a real opinion, Big O Tires Lafayette is BEST OF BREED! I have never felt more comfortable getting any service done on my car as I have at the Lafayette Big O store. I've been taking my cars to this Big O for a couple years now for minor service, tires, brakes, and suspension work. 2 weeks ago my Ford F150 developed a difficult to diagnose noise after an axle replacement. The Lafayette Big O team worked on the problem extensively and continued to troubleshoot the problem over 3 separate visits and re-doing the Axel work. They never complained, never gave up, and never charged me for the added work. And in the end the problem was a new one and was in no way connected with their original work. Best customer service you could ask for. The owner helped me get my car in fast before our road trip this summer. Unfortunately there was an issue with how my car was repair and we had to rent a car for our trip. The owner had their mechanic come to our house, bring our car back to fix the error. They then refunded us 100% for our rental. Amazing customer service. Just shows you that yes, mistakes can happen, but it's all about how they're fixed. These guys are great. They were informative (and incredibly patient) when I bought my very first set of tires; they walked me through the pros/cons of multiple options. As an indecisive buyer, I felt confident in my final decision and am happy for going with their recommendation! I can always count on them, and frequently stop in whenever my tire loses a battle to a nail or pothole (which is more often than I care to admit--thanks, CA infrastructure!). During non-COVID times, they offer an accommodating shuttle service--ideal if you work in the area. And still, their employees are friendly and always make me feel less stressed when tire issues do arise. It's nice having a reliable and consistent business like this in my neck of the woods. I asked for basic mounting and balancing. When I picked up the wheels, I noticed they hadn't been balanced. I went back in to note the discrepancy and was approached by a blond guy who told me they don't normally balance those wheels. My application was obviously not typical, and I did pay for the work. He started to give me a song and dance about how they may not be able to do it. It was a load of BS and I cut him short. He said he'd do it and went inside in a huff. Maybe 3 minutes later, he rolled them out to me. They both had about 3 ounces of weights on them. My car would've shaken to pieces at 110 mph on the race track if they hadn't been balanced. When I got them home, the weights fell off of one of the wheels. He didn't even bother to clean the dust off of where he mounted them. That explains the 3 minute rush job. I had a competitor fix the problem. They did what I paid for with no drama at all, and they did a far better job. An excellent way to find out what people and businesses are about is to see how they react to being called on making a mistake. Mistakes happen, that usually isn't a big deal. However, when people try to defend not doing what they agreed to do, and get angry or condescending, that speaks loud and clear about their lack of character. I think I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Great Service! Called at 4:00 on a Monday to see if they could patch a flat tire. Michael was super friendly and told me to come on down right then. We were promptly greeted and helped and they even did it in an hour so I could have my car back that night. I was very impressed by the service here. I recently had a horrible experience at Costco tires in Concord, which I will never use again. So I am happy to have found my new place to go to for tires. Thank you Big O! read more

What's with the dry attitude at this company? The knee culture must be downtrodden. I've had 2 nice people in the two different locations over the last 2 years in costumer service. I've received attitude from more than that for asking very simple questions. I don't write reviews normally, but in this instance I can't help it. Simply put, this service is for people who need help and getting attitude from service industry people for no reason is preposterous. BEWARE : The sales people here lie and try to scare you to take your money. Always get a second opinion! I came in for a tire rotation and asked them to check my brakes. They told me I needed new rotors due to "hot spots" and new brakes because they were "almost" worn down. Total cost: $500. After saying I'd like to have a second opinion I went down to my favorite local mechanic who informed me the rotors were almost brand new and the brake pads have 10-15,000 miles left on them. Two years ago I needed one tire on a car I knew I would be trading in shortly (it was a high mileage '89), but I needed the one tire replaced then. After enduring the pushy up sell speeches about the wisdom of doing all four, I finally got through to the "salesman" that I wanted ONE tire, and that I wanted the least expensive option possible at that. With a huff the guy agreed to do it. In the end it cost me $194 for the ONE tire. That, I am certain, was hardly the least expensive option. I was probably overcharged at least $50, but it could have been more. I am now shopping for 4 new high performance Michelin tires. I don't know why I even bothered to check their website, but it did remind me to write this account of my experience here at this shop. I'll be buying my 4 new tires elsewhere. I told them I needed the brake pads changed on my truck, they told me they needed to inspect it first. They said the initial "inspection" would take 45 minutes, I came back an hour and a half later and it still wasn't done. When they finally told me I needed more work done than just a brake pad change I knew they were scamming me but i decided a hundred extra dollars was better than bothering with the same crap elsewhere. I left the car with them and they called me 30 minutes later saying the same service would be nearly double what I had agreed to. They had forgotten to include the charges for the additional services they were adding on, the guy explained to me. Being a fairly busy person I went here willing to pay extra just so I didn't have to take the time and get dirty changing the pads myself. They ended up wasting half my day only to have me take the rest of the afternoon to change the pads myself. I'm taking the time to write this post because this is no way to run a business. If you're going to this place yourself, be very wary. read more

***BUYER BEWARE*** This is the first time I have written a review. The reason is that this establishment at least in my case has to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a retail business.. I had purchased a set (2) tires from tirebuyer.com an online tire sales firm. At checkout they give you a list of installers for your tires in your area with the prices to do the instillation based on the tires purchased. I chose this Big O in Lafayette and was quoted a price at the time of purchase. I paid for the tires and was to pay Big O the quoted installation fee at the time they installed the tires. The tires were shipped directly to them. They called me once they received the tires and scheduled a time. I showed up to drop off my car for the installation. They asked me to sign an estimate a little over twice what was quoted. I asked what was going on and they said that Tire Buyer, the firm I bought the tires from had their prices wrong and that it was not there fault. I asked if they had there number and they said no, which seemed surprising, since they are one of their installers. So, I told them to give me my tires and left. They gave me the tires without even verifying that it was me. Shortly after I left I called Tire Buyer and was told by a customer service rep that it is in fact, Big O that sets the price online. He said that they have access to the website and put in there own pricing, and that Tire Buyer has no say in what they charge. So besides being lied to about it being Tire Buyers mistake. It seems that they feel once you have the tires delivered to them and show up, that they can gouge you for twice what they quoted because you are stuck. Not a good way to do business. read more

This is my first Yelp review! If a zero star rating was an option Big O Tires in Lafayette CA would get it. Over the years I have bought several of our cars tires at this shop. Last year I bought 4 tires (which they insisted I needed due to my All Wheel Drive). They sold me hard on buying a certain type of expensive tire and even harder on their service model if anything went wrong with the tire. It's just over a year later and I drove over a nail (center of the tire). I went in for the easy repair and they told me my tread was too low and I needed 4 new tires. They said they would not patch the hole and I had no other options. When I explained that I just bought the tires at this shop a year ago hey asked me when my last rotation was done. I let them know I had it done at the Walnut Creek Big O because Lafayette was closed on Sundays and they said that was my problem because they couldn't guarantee other Big O's work. They did admit the tire was under its max mileage but since I didn't have them rotated at their shop it was my problem. The owner got involved and he insisted in giving me a lesson on tire rotation. I tried to explain that I was a loyal customer and I was looking for a better explanation/support for the lack of performance and I was told too bad and I should be mad at the other Big O. I let them know I try to support the local shops but without good customer support I would be forced to take my business elsewhere. I think they thought they had leverage over me because of the nail. I drove away with nail in my tire and will not be back. The owner could care less! read more

This is for two bad experiences: 1) I went in to get a tire alignment on a car I recently purchased. They aligned them and then when I looked closely at the tires, realized there were 4 different kinds of tires on the car....as a tire shop they should have pointed out that it was a waste of money to try to align 4 tires of different makes. 2) They seem to practice the bait and switch. I checked a price with them over the phone for a set of tires as a follow up to visit #1 and they said they could match it. When I arrived they said there was "no way" they could do that and offered me a cheap tire at a slightly lower price than the one I came in for. Overall, would not recommend. read more

My experience leads me to believe they are dishonest... read on if you are curious: I always wonder how certain places with terrible service get high reviews by fellow yelpers. And then I begin to think they are likely not customers but actual employees scamming us honest Yelpers by posting nonsensical comments praising the unjust. Now on to my review: I had some wobble in my front tires and decided they likely needed to be balanced. I paid Big O Tires $35 (a very fair and decent price for balancing the two front tires) and returned to pick up my car. I was then told they were "balanced as best as we could get them. They were off balance and we corrected as best we can but they won't be perfect. You'll still get some shimmy in the wheel but it's likely due to your front brakes needing to be replaced. They then quoted me the price to replace my front brakes. Very convenient. Now I will say in fairness that my brakes DID need to be replaced but I was getting shimmy while accelerating, NOT braking. I drive off the lot, take my car immediately on the highway and... the SHIMMY IS STILL THERE. Thanks Big O Tires. I then returned home to Carmel, CA where I took to a local tire shop who claimed my tires were completely out of balance. Within 30 minutes they were perfectly balanced, no more shimmy. I believe Big O Tires simply told me they were "fixed" while blaming the brakes for the issue so that I would pay to have my brakes fixed with them. Either that or they are incompetent, you decide. read more

Good luck taking your chances here. I never had an issue with "radial bubbles" which are dangerous and basically make a tire a dud that needs to be replaced until I bought tires here. I had the bad fortune of getting a set of tires at this place without getting them warranted beyond a year, and paid dearly, coming back just barely past the warrantee date, with 2 of these ruined tires and being turned away. Luckily I tried America's Tire in Walnut Creek, who actually pro-rated the other 2 tires which were near bald and they have serviced my tires ever since, no radial bubbles, not BS, no extra money needed for warranties, their tires are warranted and pro-rated for the life of the tire !. At Big O, they could only dream of being able to sell such good product or be customer service oriented. read more

I had a bad experience with big O in Lafayette several years back but for some reason decided to go there again due to convenience. Long story short, bad decision they are the same. I feel they are dishonest and oversell you, especially if you are a woman. They tell you one price then next thing you know you need all kinds of work done, which they originally said I would not need. Another situation with my tires several years back they sold me Yakima tires saying they were great etc, no problem with them but then just went back and had to get 4 new tires, I asked for Yakima since I saw they were cheaper than what they were trying to sell me and they said how bad Yakima would be for my car. Funny they were supposed to be great for my car a few years before, maybe it depends what's in stock or how much they think they can get you to pay. Overall, a bad taste in my mouth with that place. read more

I went to get in my car when he got home and the driver inside door and handle and the steering wheel where covered in black finger prints and smudges on the seat!!! Not good!!! I had to replace a pair of tires as they were both worn and one had a slow leak. Called a few places around town but was put off by the high prices. I gave Big O a try and after explaining what I wanted they recommended some good tires comparable in price to tirerack. Ordered them in the morning and they arrived for installation in the afternoon. No hassle transaction and great service. Highly recommended to anyone in need to replace their tires. They also offer free flat repairs for tires bought from them. Do a little homework online and then see these guys! read more

I bought a set of four tires from Big O Tires in Lafayette, CA about a year ago. Ever since, I had the tires rotated every 5000 miles faithfully. At the store for the third time rotation, the store clerk informed me before performing the rotation that I would need to replace three tries at a cost more than $400. He said that even I had the wheel aligned and had tires rotated ever since, the three tires had worn unevenly. He blamed on my driving habit that had caused all this uneven wear. In one word, this is ALL MY FAULT. It made no sense to me and I protested. It was only about a year since I bought the tires. The tires had only 15,000 miles on them which is less than half of the mileage under the warranty. In reaction to my protest and my refusal to the tire purchase, he refused to have tires rotated. His reason? Unsafe to drive. Again, this is ALL MY FAULT he said. Realizing no further argument with Big O Tires would make any progress, I took my car to a nearby gas station. The mechanic there said three tires wore pretty even and still looked fine. Only one tire shows uneven, excessive wear. In his opinion, however, even the one with excessive wear is drivable another several thousand miles. In the mean time, he suggested to wait for a tire sale. He said that rotating tires would make it safer to drive as it would make them to wear more evenly. He did not understand why Big O Tire had claimed the tire rotation would make it unsafe. Big O Tries offers free tire rotations for every 5000 miles. I now realized why they offer such a free service. It is not free after all. They use this opportunity to give pressure the customers to purchase new tires, very prematurely in my case: Only a year after my original purchase and only after 15,000 miles drive, (13518 miles to be exact.) The workmanship or the tire warranty do not matter. Tires need to be changed ALL DUE TO MY FAULT. We used live Mountain View. After I retired, we looked for a small, nice quiet community to retire away from the congested Silicon Valley and moved to the Lafayette area. It is very unfortunate that this small nice quiet community has such a dishonest business. It is very regrettable. read more

I went in near closing time Saturday after a nail was found in my tire--found when I got a car wash at the Lafayette car wash across the street from Big O. Even though they were busy and getting ready to leave, Jason said they would not close without fixing my tire. They fixed it and the service was outstanding--a great way to make a new customer. My check engine light came on so I went to Big O to see what was wrong. They said it would be $60 to check it out. I was planning on dropping it off then walking to work about 1 mile down the road. An employee kindly offered to give me a ride to work! I wasn't expecting that and it was so helpful. It only took them an hour to check it out and they called me saying it was ready and that they'd send someone to come pick me up. Turns out it was just my gas cap was loose and they turned my check engine light off free of charge instead of charging me $60!!! Getting a ride to and from work and not being charged... Unfortunately Big O tires in Lafayette has really disappointed me. It's the heat of summer and after having an appointment my car isn't being worked on. 40 minutes later still nothing. I think the situation could be remedied by some simple communication that things would have to take longer. Maybe even a ride back to my house but no offer. At times I've been very happy with the service here but today is not one of them. I'm hoping things change because most of the customer service representatives are less than kind and at times condescending. Better luck next time, if there is one. Called to make an appointment for an oil change and Michael booked me for the next available opening (the next day). Arrived for my appointment and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Only took an hour for the oil change, so I got lunch in downtown Lafayette while I waited. The oil change was done on time, and they even rotated my tires for free. Super nice staff! I hit up these guys for tires on Tuesday. They matched the price from tire rack and special ordered me some high end Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec tires for my Civic Si. Paid $100 deposit on Tuesday, they called on Wednesday to say they were in, I dropped off my car at 8:30am on Thursday, went to work, and picked it up completed at 5pm the same day. They were super nice, did everything they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it, etc. I am super happy with my experience here... read more

I have been to other places in the east bay and the tires aren't balanced the same as this shop in Lafayette. I wish they were open on Sundays too. Big O Tires in Lafayette has to be the best in Customer Service as I've ever seen. What an experience I had the other day. They were quick and courteous, thorough and accommodating. I was a walk in, I got a flat, put the spare on and drove over to Big O on a Saturday which has to be their busiest day (and it was). The gentlemen working there said its busy, no promises, they'll do the best they can. An hour later I had my vehicle with 4 new tires and the spare and jack accessories all put back exactly where they didn't find them (I took them out). I was in and out of there in an hour which included all the paperwork and 2 courtesy shuttle trips back and forth to BART. OMG, what an unbelievably great customer service experience.
