This is my second review. I eat here about once a week and the quality and consistency have always been top-notch. I usually grab a few meals of takeout as well. I like the green curry with any meat and find the 3-star heat is about right if you like spice. Going with the 5-star is doable but I think it distorts the general nature of the food. The swimming Rama (peanut sauce) with meat or tofu is awesome as well. The fresh spring rolls are great too. All of the fried rice is great, I like the basil fried rice personally. PROS: It's decent Thai food in Livingston. They kind of have a corner on the market. Well, for now - at least until "Rice Thai" gets finished opening downtown. The thai lady in the back is really nice. CONS: The service is consistently poor and staff is constantly rotating in and out which is typically a sign of poor management. You may think like I do and just go for TO-GO, but that typically takes 45+ minutes as it seems everyone else has the same experience/idea. * It's overpriced for what it is. * Spice level is inconsistent. * Atmosphere is lacking - there're no windows. * They're not very flexible. I asked for an order of fried tofu - they said they couldn't make it as an appetizer - just as an entrée. "So you have fried tofu, but you wont sell me fried tofu?" "Yes, that's correct." * Hours/Days of operation are inconsistent and seem to be at the hands of the owner's schedule. * Owners are not experienced in Restaurant biz and it's starting to show. Typically we don't review mom/pop shops negatively but our experiences have just gotten worse as we've returned. Picked up carry out today, that is all they offer at this time which is fine with me. Not sure what previous review meant by it being a dive. It's a very nice place, but no windows so it's on the dark side. Lady at register wearing mask & gloves was very nice. I got a dinner sized pad Thai with tofu & broccoli and an order of fresh spring rolls. Spring rolls were very good. Pad Thai too sweet for me and I know it's a noodle dish but it was 98% noodles. I can't say enough good things about the food and service at Big Sky Thai. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite a while and it did not disappoint. We ordered the pad thai with beef, pad sew ew with chicken, and a bowl of the coconut soup with tofu. Everything was incredible! Don't expect anything fancy when it comes to atmosphere but be prepared for fantastic service and phenomenal cuisine. Wow, wow, wow!!! I'd give it a "6", if I could. What fabulous food!! If you are local, you are very lucky. If you are from out of town, finding this brand new restaurant is hard, but please persevere. The restaurant is connected to the Travelodge in a complex called Clark's Crossing (apparently once the hotel's restaurant), and there appears to be several restaurants in that building. Once you enter the front door, keep going straight to the back of the complex. We were delighted to find that we could custom order the "heat" of our food. The interplay of their spices was delightful, and I was told the owner is from Thailand. If we lived locally, we'd be eating here again and again. We were a little hesitant to try this restaurant as the outside of the building isn't very impressive. But were very happy to see a nice dining room, clean and comfortable. Our server was friendly and answered our questions. We decided to order two soups and to split one entree. My wife ordered Won Ton soup while I chose a small bowl of Thai Coconut soup. WOW! Small soups were huge and so very tasty! Then our Pad Thai arrived, another large portion and it too was terrific! I guess I'm not the only one who had problems finding this place tucked inside a building in the back with not so obvious signs to the restaurant. I had to call for directions standing right beside the restaurant. Anyway once inside this place for sure looked like still new that still has a few things to be put in order, however their food makes up for any apprehensions one may have about the looks. The staff were very friendly and made sure I got my food as soon as they could make it. The chef (Caucasian girl) was so nice to come and check on the food and was open to feedback. I felt it was slightly saltier for my taste(and it could be just me) but the flavors were spot on. All were excellent and the people were warm, friendly and efficient. It is in an unlikely spot (attached to a pet-friendly Travellodge just off Interstate 90) but don't let that deter you. Don't let the location throw you off. Authentic Thai cuisine, authentic Thai comfort food made to order...don't expect fast food. They know how to use the full range of spices and flavors of the Thai range of ingredients. I have eaten virtually everything on the menu and no dissatisfaction. Dinner portion is very generous base on quality and price. Save room for the coconut ice cream and fried bananas. They do a lot of take out, but fresh prepared is the way to go. I'd rate this as one of my favorite 5 Thai reasturants. Only suggestion is the need to add a bit more vegetables and meat....increase the price OK. read more
