Incredible food...disappointed in service. The proscutto white pizza we ordered was great! I would highly recommend However, I was very disappointed in our service. As a waitress myself, I know working in the restaurant industry right now is tough. We ordered a bottle of wine and an app to start. Our wine took about 15 minutes to come. Ordered takeout recently for a birthday dinner / date night in, and was happy with our meal. Online ordering and curbside pickup were easy and made it convenient! We got the potato croquettes as an appetizer, which were very flavorful and probably my favorite part of the meal - my idea of ultimate comfort food! For a salad, we split the large Brussels sprouts salad, which I thought was ok. It ended up being shredded sprouts for the salad base, and I felt like the amount of toppings provided wasn't enough to go with the sprouts. I was excited about the Honey Citrus dressing, but either we weren't given the right dressing, or it was so dilute that I couldn't taste the honey citrus flavor. The pizza funghi was very tasty! Simple, but that's what I was going for, and this pie delivered. Tasty, fresh crust which I enjoyed a lot. Forgive the messiness in the pictures. I just started eating before I reminded myself I should probably take a picture. The food here is a solid choice for Italian. I've never been disappointed, and it's always been a tasty treat. My favorite is definitely the calamari appetizer- sometimes calamari is hit or miss but they done good here. My wife and I were craving Italian food and we hadn't been to Bigalora in a couple of years, so we decided to order takeout from them to appease our cravings. Unfortunately, it ended up being a mediocre experience. We ordered the risotto balls, bacco sausage pizza, and fettuccine funghi to split, and I hate to say this but they ranged from "terrible" to "just okay." The risotto balls were the best part, but even that was just okay. I think they overdid the saffron because it overpowered any other flavor -- I could barely taste the cheese (and my mother is a legendary paella-maker, so I'm no stranger to saffron). They also only serve 3 risotto balls for $9, which feels overpriced but, then again, they use waaay too much saffron and saffron is expensive. The bacco sausage pizza should be renamed "onion pizza with a tiny bit of sausage." The thing was *smothered* in large onion chunks and there were maybe 12-15 little pieces of sausage on the entire pizza. They also claim it includes hot peppers, by which they mean 4 little thin slices of pepper on an entire pizza. Once I removed literally half the onion, the flavor was alright, but I still felt very disappointed by what I got. The really bad part was the fettuccine funghi. They claim it comes with a mushroom ragu, which should be a *sauce*, but what we got instead was a container of dry, overcooked noodles with chunks of mushroom. To their credit, they did put a good amount of mushrooms, but it wasn't saucy at all and the pasta had clearly been cooked way past the ideal al dente. These sad noodles clumped together and were almost flavorless. It honestly seemed like someone boiled the noodles like 3 minutes too long and then topped them with sautéed mushrooms with NO broth or cheese or anything. Seriously -- where was the sauce or the cheese?! We literally had to grate our own Parmesan cheese to add to the dish to even make it passable. It was honestly not even Olive Garden-level pasta... I don't know that I'd ever go back to Bigalora, except maybe for brunch which, if I recall correctly from my mid 20s Royal Oak days, was quite good. But for a nice Italian dinner, no way. read more

Wow! We made lunch reservations to eat in one of their igloos. Upon arrival we were shown to our warmed-igloo. Large enough to hold six, the four of us were quite comfortable. The focaccia and pizza were both fresh/delicious. If you are getting an appetizer, there's enough in one pie to split amongst two people. The service was great. Let me start by saying, seriously underwhelmed. The atmosphere is clearly what they're attempting to achieve, and less of a solid restaurant. Our waitress, I will refrain from using her name, asked us how we were doing just a minute into our appetizers, and we politely asked for a coke to go with our waters - it never came. Normally, this might seem silly, but we were sitting on a heavy traffic area. She walked by us MORE than a dozen times, looked right at us, with trays FULL of drinks, and we never got it. We even saw her fill a Coke, glance our way and put the glass back. If she was embarrassed for forgetting, no big deal, say that. I was just thirsty! The entire place was out of order. There's be a flurry of waitress/waiters moving and then they would all be standing around doing nothing. There's no room for that in this place. There was a party upstairs and that was catered to over anyone else in the entire building. Along with the party, came their food, EVERY SINGLE PLATE that was put out, sat out in an uncovered spot for absolutely EVERY one to walk by. Everyone. An accidental cough or sneeze, on your plate. Salads were pre made and set on the counter and left until pizzas were ready. With meat and cheese clearly visible in the greens. Ew. I couldn't get over watching food sit out. The salad I ordered was quite large, but it was also just sub-par, anyone can throw beets and vinaigrette on an arugula salad. We opted for the FUNGHI white pizza... which was good, but that's it. I ate it because we already ordered it. Watching the pizza chefs cook was the best part of the entire experience. For our menu reference: Baked Wings, (which were unexpectedly spicy!), White Funghi Pizza, and the Wood Roasted Beet Salad, Water (and an invisible coke). Go to Jets. read more

I've been to Bigalora a few times and each time has been a great experience. The Waitstaff and Hostesses are all very nice and courteous, I had most of my party get stuck behind an accident on 696 and they still seated the party that was there and put up with us for an hour while we waited for the rest of the group. They have a good selection of beers on tap, as well as a well-stocked bar, so you can get pretty much any drink your heart desires while you wait for food (They make mixed drinks rather on the strong side, be advised!). Great selection of appetizers and there's something for every diet, too! Highly recommend the fried Brussels Sprouts, they totally changed my opinion of brussels sprouts! They have tons of pizzas to choose from, and if you can eat pizza, I'd definitely recommend that route, especially the white pizzas. Which pizza you choose really comes down to what you like on your pizza, but there's something for everyone! Keto/ Low Carb Folks: The pizzas aren't really an option, but fear not! Bigalora makes great Salads and it's easy to add protein to a salad to get a full meal out of it! My favorite is the Wood Fired Beet Salad with Salmon. Cute restaurant inconveniently located just out of the way across the train tracks. On the inside, the tables are packed close together and it is extremely loud. The patio tables looked even more sardined than the indoor ones, but I guess I can't blame them; they're probably trying to make up for lost revenue from this past year. The food is great. The focaccia bread is a 100% must, and I recommend asking for a side of marinara to dip it in. My family got several pizzas including pepperoni, prosciutto e Parma, and margherita. Everyone enjoyed every bite. The bar drinks and overall service left a lot to be desired. I ordered a spritz mixed drink and it was truly revolting. My cousin ordered an old fashioned and said it was watery at best. Any other beverages my group ordered took 20+ minutes to get to the table, which could be more on the server than the bartender. The service was really awful. She was friendly and tried to be upbeat but had no idea what she was doing. We'd see our drinks melting at the bar counter, ask her multiple times to retrieve them, and would maybe end up getting them 10 or more minutes after that. We had to ask for many things multiple times, and just getting to be able to place our order took way too long. Seeing as the food is good (albeit overpriced; come on guys, it's pizza) but the service is awful, I'd recommend takeout as a viable option. read more

My second time going back, they burnt my first pizza and then served me a second one that was undercooked. The dough in the crust was so raw, I was able to knead the dough into a ball. Was a shame since we felt this place was promising and liked it the first time we went. We were already in a rush so we just asked for the check for our appetizers, which actually tasted just fine and were cooked right. What shocked me was the manager on staff didn't immediately go tell the chefs at the pizza station that they served us raw pizza dough. Guess there either wasn't a point in giving them the feedback or hopefully they were going to tell them after we left. read more

This was the second time myself & boyfriend came to this establishment. We were incredibly excited to come here together to enjoy our day at this restaurant . Right off the bat the server John F was not attentive at all. My boyfriend and I both work in the food industry as servers so we understand how a good server acts. We heard about Bigalora on channel 955 and they were raaaaving about how wonderful the food and the service is.  It was clear that Bigalora's fame was well known, because you have to sign on at 3PM on Mondays in order to get a reservation for an igloo the following week, and man they book up QUICK!  We were really excited to experience it! When we arrived for our 3:30 reservation, we were surprised when we had to wait for 40 minutes for the igloo.  There were other options to sit inside and eat, but we felt most comfortable with the igloos seclusion from other people dining in. The reservations in igloos are 90 minutes, so we were unsure why it wasn't more timely.  When we were seated, we found out it was because the patrons before us weren't adhering to the time limit, and there was a miscommunication among wait staff.   When we were in our igloo, it was warm, clean and aired out sufficiently.  We had several different wait staff helping us, and all of them were friendly, knowledgable and helpful.  We ordered a large Italian chopped salad, 2 pizzas (pepperoni and pesto genovese) for 3 adults, and 1 kids pizza for the 2 little ones.   All of the food and drinks were excellent!!! Drinks: Kids lemonade (they loved them!), Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Paper Plane cocktail.  Pizzas: They added a little extra flair to the pepperoni with seasonings and the pesto Genovese was perfectly balanced with the pesto and toasted pine nuts and fire roasted tomatoes.  They make the tomatoes in house and they were almost sweet, just truly delicious!  The crust is very thin and airy and really the ideal pizza crust for thin crust pizza.  Salad: Plenty for 3 adults and 2 little kids, very fresh, delicious and well balanced flavors.  When the waitstaff brought out the gelato for the kids (comes with a kids meal), they brought out 2, even though we only ordered 1 kids pizza.   We greatly appreciated the apologies given to us by staff, their friendliness and attentiveness.  We were stunned when they INSISTED (twice) that we wouldn't pay anything for our meal because we had to wait for our reservation as long as we did. While our experience wasn't without hiccups, this was  an excellent experience overall.  It was of utmost importance to the staff at Bigalora Royal Oak to make it abundantly clear that they cared if we had the best experience possible.  They far surpassed making it up to us for the time we waited, and we are all excited to return again in the future.  It's inevitable that there will be miscommunications and things sometimes don't go according to plan, but the respect that they demonstrated for us and our time was truly above and beyond.  Excellent food, wonderful service, great ambiance.  Highly recommend. read more

So ... my 11 year old loves this place and has been a few times without me. When she likes a restaurant, I tend to be pretty skeptical because she love Kraft macaroni and cheese ... But, this spot is a winner. We had errands nearby and stopped in for lunch. Our waiter was just delightful - friendly, informative and attentive. He helped us make our choices. The kiddo had white pizza with sausage and I had the strozzapreti norcina (yes, I just googled that spelling). I was wowed by both. The sauce on my pasta was to die for - wonderfully creamy but not too much. I thought this was going to be chain-like in its offerings but it is anything but. I get why my kiddo loves it. Came here for a work event and it was pretty good. We had the entire upstairs space to ourselves, which was nice to move around and mingle with people. The staff was excellent is coming around and taking our orders and making sure we had everything we needed. For food, we ordered crispy brussel sprouts, fried calamari, meatballs, potato croquettes, and chopped salad. Out of all the appetizers, the meatballs and potato croquettes were my favorite. They had the most flavor to them and we perfectly cooked. The brussel sprouts were too overcooked for my liking, I think the burnt taste overwhelmed the veggie itself. The chopped salad was good with lots of ingredients, but I would have liked more dressing. We also ordered pizzas to share, including the prosciutto and roasted tomato. Both had a nice wood fire taste and the cheese gave a great dominate flavor. The prosciutto was better and more flavorful. It wasn't my favorite or best pizza I've ever had, but still pretty good.
