Beef/lamb koobideh w/rice and the Borani Banjan eggplant entree!!! We bought extra bread. If you love eggplant, this is sooooo delicious!!! The bread is great for soaking up all the yummy sauce in this dish. The kabobs are seasoned with tasty spices and come with a cilantro/Serrano dip...good kick!!! Food is cooked to order, so, a little bit of a wait, unless order ahead. We'll be back!!!

Qabuli Palao Rice: loved the raisins and caramelized carrots. Perfectly cooked rice that was fluffy. Mantu-Beef Dumpling: presentation was great and the aromatics were strong. Yogurt dressing on top gave it a slight tangy taste. Chicken Karahi: cooked ina vessel, this had to be one of my favorites. Salty though but great with the bread. Borani Banjan-Eggplant: plenty of tomato sauce that also paired well with the Afghani bread. Eggplant was cooked down to be soft and delicate. Flatbreads were amazing and reminded me of Chinese leek dumplings. The flatbread was actually thinner than expected. Super crispy edges and bigger portion size than expected. A great appetizer that feeds at least two people. Bolani-Leek: definitely uses plenty of leek. Bolani-Mix Potato/Leek: the potato balances with the leek flavor

I AM AFGHAN AND THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST AND MOST AUTHENTIC AFGHAN FOOD IVE HAD IN ALL OF LA!…read more I ordered the potato and leek bolanee. Both were delicious, I always prefer leek over potato but that's my preference both were amazing. I also ordered the mantoo which was cooked to perfection and the afghan rice with lamb shank which is essentially khabuli pualo was also delicious. The lady who was running the spot was the sweetest lady ever she included an extra plate for us the Chapli kabob, which was exceptional! I was not expecting it to be this good!!! the meat was so so tender I thought it was lamb! Definitely going to be my regular spot! So happy to have found this gem! Also keep in mind this food is FRESH and made to order so factor in that it's not a drive through joint and the food isn't just sitting out, there is one lady running the store and cooking so be patient you won't be disappointed. Overall 10/10 I will definitely be back and recommend this place to everyone!!!

Small, longtime businesses are adapting as best they can. If you want the best experience, it's worth ordering in person. My partner and I tried the Lamb & Chicken Bukhari yesterday for my first Afghani experience, and it was incredible. You can truly taste that it's homemade. The flavors are unmatched. Persian and Latina approved lol. I'll definitely be back to support. Show some love to small businesses... especially this one! Merci!

Wow...this place completely exceeded my expectations…read more Flavors From Afar is unlike any restaurant I've been to in Los Angeles. Every dish represents a different culture, and you can truly feel the intention behind every bite. I ordered the entire vegan menu and loved everything; from the Somali Sambusas and Haitian Pikliz with sweet plantains to the Egyptian Koshari, Three Sisters Soup and Salad, Ethiopian Veg Combo, and the Berbere fries; which were seriously addictive. I also have to give a huge shoutout to Elyse. She was absolutely amazing throughout our visit. As a vegan, I really appreciated how attentive she was in making sure every item was prepared correctly and answering all of our questions. She made us feel genuinely welcomed, and her recommendations were spot on. Between the outstanding service, meaningful mission, and incredible food, this has easily become one of my favorite vegan-friendly restaurants in LA. Highly recommend!

3.5, please take this review with a grain of salt! we didnt get to eat our pick up order almost…read morehours later, so that's probably changed the taste and texture of the dishes. we ordered the haitian short rib, somali chicken, navajo fry bread, somali lamb sambusa, three sisters soup, and cherokee dumplings. my favorite was somali lamb sambusa, it didnt feel gamy to me, and even when we took long to eat it, that wrap of the sambusa was still crunchy, the meat was so delicious. didnt need anything else for it imo. very good, do try this! the flavors were nice, though the side veggies with the short rib was too sour we just had to set it aside because it was overpowering the meat and everything else. i did like the short rib itself and the rice and beans but we felt that there wasn't enough meat. and also for the three sisters soup, we felt that it lacked a bit flavor and tasted a bit plain. the dumplings dessert reminded me of gnocchi, there wasn't anything inside the dough but it does come in their own grape reduction which was very nice and their own ice cream (also very yummy). besides those, everything else was pretty good. we didnt get to enjoy it as much as we wouldve because the fry bread and the somali chicken all got soggy by the time we got to eat- but that's completely on us. we still did like the flavors. the staff were so kind and patient with us too and even offered to remake them since we kept getting delayed. i loved the concept, i love what it stands for, wish i couldve just eaten in person to taste the food as it should and the place had such a warm and nice homey environment.

I suggest you try this place before Chef Ali becomes a 5 star michellen Chef. Its been a long time since my pellet was this happy to eat food. The dishes were absolutely out of this world and The sauce was sweet and perfectly spicy. I couldn't get enough and nearly ate my fingers. I dont remeber the last time a restaurant had perfect timing between the dishes being served but I was pleasantly surprised how perfect it was. It was disappointing to note that the service was pathetic this time around as we were hosting guests from our of town. The server messed up our order despite our usual reservation and arriving on time. As a result the kids were cranky while the food took an hour to arrive in batches not catering to what was asked (kids first!) The food when it arrived was low on salt and flavor and very unlike our past experience. The restaurant wasn't busy when this happened so I can only imagine the chaos when it is packed (if it ever is with their service and food now). Perhaps the staff has moved to other flagship locations and this location is a poorly run unit now. Not going to recommend this location after the poor experience. I hope they are able to keep up the name at the other locations but for my time and money - the city has better places to offer.
