I am a new biker - like, brand new. I had an older bike in my garage with flats. So, I took it in, not really knowing what was wrong with the bike. Turns out I just needed air. However, the repair person was incredibly condescending, bordering on just rude. Yes, I know I'm new. Yes, I know I have zero knowledge about bikes, yes, I know the bike I have is probably pretty low end - but that's why I brought it to RBM. So, someone would help me. Buying bikes should not be this easy and fun. As a matter of a fact, that could almost be a complaint; the staff here is so awesome and attentive, they make spending money on bikes fun. I recently upgraded my mountain bike to a Marlin 5. I took the family out on a bike ride and my sons dirt bike (also from Richardson Bike Mart) couldn't keep up. He's 9 years old, so it's time to upgrade. I purchased a new Trek Superfly Mountain Bike for my son and the process was seamless and wonderful. They were really good with kids, showed him how to use his gears and explained the importance of helmets. When I got home, my wife and daughter were a little slighted because they saw the boys had new bikes... minutes later I'm in the car and I'm buying two more bikes. I purchased a Trek 820 for my daughter and a Trek Skye S for my wife. I had to special order the Skye S. The experience was fun because the staff here makes it fun. It's nice walking into a place where people love what they do, it shows in how they treat you. It was nice having someone that understood bikes show my daughter the basics of her bike. Here's the said part, I didn't realize that the gear numbers correspond to the actual gears on the bike till I heard him explain it to my daughter. While I have 21 speeds, I've typically lived in gear 2 on the big wheel and 1-7 on the little wheel. I learned something without even trying and that made it easier to explain to my son and wife. Any questions I had were answered, and if the person didn't' have the answer, they would find it from someone else. I'm probably not going to be coming to the Richardson or Frisco locations much longer since they are opening a new store in McKinney, but I will always be a Richardson Bike Mart customer. I phoned them several times for prices on parts and service and they they always answered directly. I then went there for shift cable service and they delivered the fix in the stated time while I waited. They found that I brought the wrong cable that I purchased at the shop on the other side of town but they had the correct part so problem was fixed. Shout out to Jose in service who went the extra mile in finding a part that fixed my brake cable for no extra charge for his time & effort. read more

I contacted the shop via email before my visit and told them what I wanted. Hector responded in about five to ten minutes with two recommendations, bikes they had in stock for my size and needs. I showed up a couple hours later and was introduced to Ahmed who showed me the two recommended bikes. He answered all my questions, I picked a bike, and he led me around the shop and helped me find all the accessories I requested, answering my questions all the way. I hadn't bought a brand new bike since the late eighties and things are a little different now. Ahmed made it a breeze and taught me everything new. Once I had made all my choices, he took my accessories to the back with the bike and had everything installed by someone while he rang me up. By the time they had my new bike rack set up on my car, they wheeled out my newly decked out bike and I strapped it in to the rack for the ride home. I got home, took the bike down from the rack, and took it for a spin around the block. It was like it was already a part of my home. I just finished a 30+ mile shakedown ride on my 60+ year old Schwinn Continental that Bike Mart had just finished re-tuning for me. It was and is wonderful! For the flat-rate tune-up price of $300, Kevin (vintage bike expert) serviced all the bearings, trued and re-dished the wheels, straightened the frame and fork, replaced brake cables, and (this is the coup de grace) fixed the uniquely designed lever-type chain ring derailleur that hadn't worked in the 50+ years I've owned and ridden the bike (I wasn't sure that was possible). And he thoroughly cleaned it -- when he rolled it out, it sparkled like jewelry. Wow! The bike now glides smoothly and silently ... and elegantly... down the street and I couldn't be happier. read more

The CSA's were also super upbeat & polite. I purchased a basket as well and of course they pleasantly offered to attach it for me... I probably definitely would've messed it up. Done with this place, way over priced, unhelpful and condescending. 1st time I blew it off but second times a charm. Took a broken fork in to see if it could be fixed. After waiting 20 minutes the response I got was a snicker and a "hell no there nothing we can do with that. A new one like that's going to be like $400-500 bucks". Then he chuckled and told me they don't stock forks any away. Then walked off, he offered no help to order one ...nothing. My wife & I visited Richardson Bike Mart for the first time today. Being a grown adult that has never stepped onto a bike, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. The store was massive and we wandered aimlessly for all of two minutes before Mark T. came up to us and asked if he could help. I explained my wish to Mark to learn how to ride a bike and begin exercising with one, and he thoughtfully walked us through multiple bike options until we landed on one within my needs and our budget. Mark then escorted us outside and spent over an HOUR teaching me how to ride a bike! He was extremely pleasant, kind, and patient with his time. He alleviated my nervousness on riding a bike for the first time and cracked some timely jokes! Although I didn't quite get the hang of it in this one visit, I will be back next Saturday to hopefully reconnect with Mark and crush this thing. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I came in with the intention to rent a bike for the day but also wanted more info on finding a road bike that fits me so I can invest in one later this year. I spent about an hour browsing the store and talking with various employees about every question that popped into mind. After personally finding 5 road bikes that fit my size and budget, I spent the second hour testing them on the road behind Richardson Bike Mart. The staff helped me adjust the bike and get comfortable with the gears etc. I didn't leave with a bike that day. After all it wasn't my intention. The shop worked on a couple of bikes for me, and two of the three employees I worked with were great. The other employee stated me down while I was in line like he wanted to fight me. I looked back at him the whole time, and eventually he stopped. I had to bring one of the bikes back in and dealt with the guy again. He rushed through my request and didn't address the problem I came back for in the first place. This shop seems to have a semi monopoly in the area, even if I have to drive further out, I'm finding a better alternative. read more

Great place to buy a bike, but not always the best service after the sale. My bike was recalled (not their fault), and they did well to call and notify me. I ask when I should bring it in, and they say to wait a couple weeks when they expect to have the parts. I say fine, I'm a little banged up and can't ride for a couple weeks anyhow. So far, so good. A month later I come in with the bike, and I'm told they have gotten some parts in but already run out again. They don't have the part and have not the slightest idea of when they will, but I'm now in a line of 40-60 bikes needing the same repair. I'm also told I can get a service order to get a place at the very back of the line for parts that may be months away for me. They'll call me, some day. Not having the part was out of their control, and shame on Specialized for their handling of the recall (probably my last Specialized bike). The issue really came down to poor communication--there isn't any reason they couldn't have put me on a list and called me when the part came in without me making an extra trip on my weekend to come in (it isn't convenient). And the service people are strangely aloof and unhelpful. A little contrition would have gone a long way. Instead, they sort of implied it was my fault for not rushing in to be the first when the recall was announced. As you will see below, however, the manager understands and is working hard to keep me happy. I'm not going to stick him with a used bike, but I really appreciate his desire to help. He's earned back my business and hopefully I see more of this spirit in the service staff in the future. read more

I been to all the major (real) bicycle retailers in Dallas, and nobody beats Richardson Bike Mart on selection. They have a vast array of selection and types of cycles -- I can't imagine another store with the inventory they carry. Of course, they also have all the various accessories and protective gear that goes along with the business, but the main show is the bicycles themselves. Their prices are in line with the other stores (like Performance Bicycle), and they run sales sometimes that seem like good deals. They also have a used selection if you're really looking at saving money while still getting a quality bike. If you find a bike you like, they adjust everything there. Buy a computer accessory, they'll slap it on and calibrate it properly for free. Knowledgeable and friend no-pressure sales staff. There's even room out back to give a few bikes a spin before making a decision. I've learned my lesson. Next bike I need I'm heading straight for these guys to check out what's new. read more

While there was not a huge selection of 20" bikes in stock, my granddaughter found just the one she wanted, with the help of a wonderful salesperson. When she said she wanted to accessorize it, he was as serious as she. He explained each accessory and showed her where it would be placed. As he fitted her helmet, she asked if they had it in teal. Again, he worked with her and found the teal helmet. He then gave her two hints as to proper fit. The shop attached her accessories in record time and loaded the bike in the car for us. So walked in and explained to the sales guys that I didn't know what I wanted and they were helpful right off the bat. They asked me a few questions saw my body geometry to size me up and made a few recommendations. I liked that they didn't try to up sell me, it was usually me looking for the higher end items. **Mitchell** was extremely helpful and very knowledgable too, he gave me several tips and explained some features that I didn't know existed on the bike. Anyway, after a few hours at the store and picking up various accessories I walked out a very happy customer. The inventory availability here versus the Frisco location is truly night and day. Went there today with a bike that I'd just bought from someone on Craigs list. It needed a rear derailleur adjustment and I asked them to give it a check to see if there was anything that needed servicing. They adjusted the derailleur and checked everything while I waited.
