This place has everything you could ever want in a good breakfast: 1. Serves breakfast late.......like hangover style late. 2. Portions are huge, really huge. 3. It feels like your mom is making it in the back. 4. Slightly spicy and plump sausages. 5. Blueberry pancakes full of blueberries. Okay, well maybe that's everything I want in a breakfast, but I got it all. This is like a little country coffee diner on Berkeley. It seems family owned and operated and was only a ten minute walk from our hotel. We went here on our last morning in Boston and it was less than 20 bucks for the whole meal. If you want something classy, overpriced, swanky or innovative....this is not the place for you. Not impressed on my most recent experience. As you'll read in my original review, I'm a big fan of the meatball sub, which Billy's had seemingly mastered. Well. Not this time. I was very disappointed with my lunch today. The bread came soggy. The red sauce was metallic tasting (lacking spice) and the meatballs were borderline disgusting. I actually had to spit a bite out and forfeit the end of one sub I was so disgusted. It tasted - OFF. Not fresh. Bad. Frozen and thawed, then frozen and thawed again. And then microwaved. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I'm pretty sad because I love this sub from Billy's. I'm hoping it was just an off day, but I have to report it - it was that bad. I don't know if they were cutting corners or saving costs, but whatever it was that made this sub so bad was really not worth it. Good for breakfast Traditional, family owned small diner I believe. Everything seems very old but it's nice. They focus on a few dishes for breakfast and a line is formed very quickly. Seems like a lot of people like this place. And to complete the entire cliche of small American breakfast place I saw 2 cops having breakfast here drinking their coffee from a paper cup and reading the newspaper. I love Billy's. The food is homemade, comforting and you can't beat the prices. Breakfast here is the best. I can get an entire diner style breakfast for just over $5! Lunch is not bad either, but I always come to Billy's for their breakfast. Best breakfast options: Corned beef hash with eggs, home fries and toast TOASTED muffin (warm, crispy, buttery and just delicious) Pretty quick service and the lady who usually takes my order is so cute! She doesn't talk much during rush hours obviously, but she's super friendly and makes jokes when there's some leisure time haha. It's a hole in the wall, but Billy's has definitely gotten more popular over the past few months. People are discovering cheap and high quality food here! read more

Billy's is near my office and a great spot to grab a sub! I go there a lot when I work from my office in the city.

My boyfriend and I went in to Billy's today for lunch (the Italian is a MUST!) - he's been there before but I was a first timer. The food was excellent - mostly classic sandwiches here but exceptionally great classics. More importantly, we appreciated the attentiveness and kindness displayed by the employees/owners there. I made a joke that I was only going to eat half and he wrapped the other half neatly for me to take to-go and served the other half to the table. Great family owned restaurant and it showed through the way they put together each sub and welcomed their customers. Only downside is that I wasn't a big fan of the coffee but they're not known for that, so still get 5 stars! Will definitely be back soon! read more

YUMMY! Finally a bacon, egg and cheese where the egg is fried and not microwaved!!! Delicious sandwich on a fresh, soft roll, totally coming back. Had the home fries which were good and they gave us a very generous helping, however they lacked flavor and spice. A little bland. Review #2: This time I went with a standard bacon, egg, cheese on an English muffin. Reasonably priced and came out with expected portion size. The sandwich was great. Not smothered in cheese so you could actually enjoy the bread and cheese. Add on, I didn't feel like garbage after eating the sandwich so I'd say it was a successful start to the day. One of the best Italian subs I've ever had. Let me tell you, when it comes to an Italian sub I am PICKY. I like a lot of vinegar flavor, but not enough to make the bread soggy. We've lived in the South End for a few years and Billy's has always been on my neighborhood bucket list of places to try. Boy am I sad that I didn't get to this one sooner. Billy's is, in many ways, the quintessential Boston dinner. The have lots of great options available on the menu for both breakfast and lunch (though I've only ever been here for breakfast) and they've got prices that can't be beat. The place is always filled with customers (and often some BPD officers, too -- so you KNOW it's a good spot). This is one of the only places in the South End where I feel like I might actually be saving money when I go out to eat. My go-to is egg and cheese on rye bread, which comes out to $3 even -- seriously. Sure, it comes on disposable plates and with plastic silverware, but that doesn't bother me one bit. Since discovering this place a few months ago, I've been back half a dozen times. A few things I've learned about the place since then: 1. It's not cash only -- they do accept credit card. I can't remember if someone else had posted that they were cash only or if it just has that feel to it, but they do accept credit cards. 2. They are great for to-go orders. We've started calling ahead to place our order and it's always ready when we get there. Definitely sad I hadn't tried this place sooner! read more

A hidden little gem in the South End. I am obsessed with their Greek salad, which is piled with the most juicy, well-seasoned, white meat chicken and enough to keep me full all afternoon long. The dressing is oddly sweet and tangy (not my favorite ever, tbh), but the freshness of the salad can't be beat. I'm also a big fan of their chicken salad sandwich too, which was overflowing with chunks of chicken in an absolutely delicious and not-too-mayonnaisey sauce. The bread was perfect and fresh, crisp veggies on top and as I mentioned, very filling. The service is friendly and the place has devoted regulars. Really great people, and amazing and plentiful food make it a great deal too. Never been for breakfast but it seems they're a hit for that too! read more

I really don't understand the fuss about this place. I've eaten there twice now and been largely unimpressed. Yes, the food is cheap, and it is served lightning-quick. But they're able to accomplish that feat by putting little if any effort into the food preparation. The meatball sub I ordered, for example, was a sub roll taken directly from the package, a slice of cold provolone cheese thrown in the bottom, and meatballs from a vat placed on top. The roll was chewy, the cheese was mostly unmelted, and the meatballs tasted like they'd been stewing for a few hours too long. Funny thing is that I think their food could be a lot better with just a little more prep time, but I'm not sure that jives with their high turnover model. read more

I've had -- buffalo chicken sub, chicken fingers, breakfast sandwiches. All delicious -- classic diner food. And if you ask for sauce they give you a bunch of sauce containers, which I appreciate and respect because I hate when places skimp on the sauce packets and you're scraping the last bits of sauce and you've still got 2 chicken fingers left. Billy's doesn't do that. They close at 2 PM on Sundays which is infuriating when you call at 2:30 on a Sunday and you're like "wait why is Billy's not answering." But other than that A+. read more
