Love me a chicken sandwich and Birdcall gained my fandom. Decided to stop at Birdcall on my way home on a Sunday afternoon. The stream of customers remained steady during my visit so it was pretty obvious there are more folks who feel the same. Ordering is simple where diners step up to a kiosk and place their order (dine in or to go) and watch the screen by the pick up window for when orders are ready. I went with the Nashville Hot and added an extra of Mike's Hot Honey. What a wonderful splurge that was! The chicken is tasty and the side coleslaw was good (not overly wet). Birdcall offers tea (highly recommend the mango), sodas and beer, and margaritas. The dining area is pretty spacious and was well maintained during my visit. The dining patio faces Hampden so it may get a little noisy from the traffic. The restaurant and its facilities are accessible friendly too. read more

Honestly, I don't understand the hype around this place. I've given this place a solid try by eating here twice. The first time I went and dined in with my boyfriend. He did actually like his sandwich. I can't remember the name, but it was the one with the pimento cheese. I got the Korean sandwich, and my sandwich was so soggy with sauce that the bun was falling apart and the breading on the chicken was not one bit crispy, but instead had a mushy texture and kept falling completely off the cutlet. The flavor of the sauce was just too salty with a little bit of sweet, but no real flavor profile other than that. When I get a fried chicken sandwich I want it to have some crunch. That's half the fun of eating fried chicken, in my opinion. The tots were ok, but nothing to write home about. I got one of the dirty sodas, which sounded good in theory, but I really didn't like it and ended up just throwing it away. My boyfriend got the house made strawberry lemonade and said it just tasted too tart. Upon trying it, I agreed. I'm the type of person who almost always gets lemonade if they make it in house, but did not have a high opinion of this one. He didn't end up finishing his drink either. Today we ordered take out from Birdcall for our whole family. My boyfriend was there to pick it up when it came out, and we live only 5 minutes up the street. This time was the same- my breading just keeps falling off the chicken, even though this time I got no sauce on my sandwich. That's super disappointing and makes it harder to eat. My son doesn't like the chicken tenders either and says they taste bad. I tried a piece, and I don't think it tastes bad, but it is definitely bland. All of the chicken seems a bit overcooked judging by the dark color of the breading that has gone a bit past the golden brown you expect with good fried chicken as well as the slightly rubbery texture of the chicken. My boyfriend ordered separately but picked up both our orders. He got home and said his Starry has no flavoring whatsoever. I tried my son's lemonade and it again is just kind of sour in flavor, with not enough sugar added. I thought maybe the first time we ate their they maybe just had their ratios off in that batch of lemonade, but I specifically didn't order it with my meal this time because of the experience last time. I guess my instincts were correct because this time it still wasn't good. Overall I just always end up wondering why I spent the money to eat at this place when the food and drinks are so lackluster. I'd sooner eat at Raising Cane's where the chicken is super crispy, tasty, and the breading stays intact, and they have delicious lemonade that they make in house. I will say that the atmosphere in the restaurant is nice enough and the bathrooms were clean. It was over air conditioned, but that tends to be the case whenever you eat at a restaurant in the summer. Either way, I still don't get the hype around this place, re: the reviews I read. Sandwich was ok for a lunch, the next time, they need to back off a bit on cooking the chicken breast, was presented unfortunately too well done, not moist and juicy as it should be. I really like Birdcall's chicken tenders/fingers. They have great Gf ones too that are a favorite of my grand children and daughter. Their salads are great and the dressing choices are varied and all really tasty. Beware of the spicy chicken options because sometimes they are really spicy. I love their sort of seasonal side options including vegetables, slaws and yummy fries. they have a bar as well and the couple of drinks i've tried are well made. read more

Not sure what I was expecting but the experience at this location was not it. I have had Birdcall on my list for awhile as I love a good fried chicken sandwich and ultimately, the collar with Penelope Wong of Yuan Wonton brought me into Birdcall. I got the Spicy SzechYUAN (always a fan of word play!) and salad for dine in. Love that they have a non fried veggie option but didn't love there was only ranch dressing and one add in (wasn't clear if I could remove and replace items)? You order at a tablet which I guess implies that no cash is accepted? Then they call out your name and it's placed in a bay. As for the sandwich? Tasty with a subtle heat at the end but don't think they added enough chili oil on it so while it had flavor, fell a little flat with my expectations. The non handicapped toilet wasn't working which wasn't awesome after drinking 30+ oz of water and a coffee so had to go to a second location. I was unclear about where boxes are and couldn't find a FOH staff member so ended up taking it in the salad container with leftover salad. As someone who loathes wilted lettuce this wasn't ideal but you gotta do what you gotta do! This is our new fav! We drove through here after looking at Christmas lights and were starving. I got the southern chicken sandwich, my husband got the deluxe chicken sandwich and my son got the chicken tenders. I love their tator tots and fries. They do both really well. Also their strawberry shortcake milkshake is divine. I made sure to steal some from my husband. I can tell this is real chicken and they are already miles ahead of most chicken places. Heard a lot of good things about this place but I unfortunately did not have a great experience. I ordered the two slider box meal with tots and proceeded to find a seat. The store was almost completely empty but somehow every single table was dirty so I had to clean the tables myself. I waited not too long for my meal which was good, but when I opened my box I noticed they gave me plain chicken sliders instead of the ones I ordered. Luckily one of the workers replaced it. We used to frequent Birdcall a couple times a month as kids loved the tenders and they used to have pretty good sandwiches. In the last year or so, the quality and service have taken a nosedive. Today was the last straw. Walked in and ordered to go from the bartender. 2 chicken sandwich meals, and a kids meal, and french fries. Filled up my drinks and sat at the bar. 30 minutes passed and I got my food. I figured, damn this took a long time but at least I'll have hot food. I get home 5 min later to find this food has 100% been sitting for a long time. soggy/cold fries and tots. cold chicken. stale bread. overall, a terrible meal for a premium price (for fast food). I don't know if management has changed since last year, but the quality of the nuggets has gone severely downhill the last few months. The nuggets are always very overcooked and difficult to bite into. The manager just says that's how they are and that he can remake them, but they will come out the same way. I'll file this memory under "remember to go through the drive thru rather than inside". I went to the Hampden location on 5/23 and though the kitchen seemed fine, the patron section of the building was decidedly unclean. I had to look at every table to find the least gross one that I felt could at least be wiped off enough to sit at it. It wasn't just tabletops though, the seats and backs of the chairs/benches I saw were gross, the floors were horrible, and even the ceiling fixtures looked dirty. No one got ill or anything, so maybe they were just understaffed recently and behind in their cleaning. However, I'll definitely remember to use the drive thru or go elsewhere next time. read more

I ordered several things to try a give it a good overview. First, fries were abysmal. They were cold and soggy. I would not order again. Tater tots were undercooked but still very tasty. Coleslaw was a rockstar. I really disliked the bun on my sandwich. My chicken fillet was tough but still very good. Gluten free nuggets were pretty good as well. So I'm driving by on Hamden Boulevard near I 25. I see the sign the best chicken sandwich! So I'm pull into drive-through. The menu for the drive-through is past the speaker. Weird anyway I placed my order a deluxe chicken sandwich I really couldn't read on the menu as it's too far away turns out it has bacon on it. So when I go to pay, they have my order wrong. I explain it to them it is a deluxe with fries and a drink. She brings it to me. She charges my card. It's $17 expensive. I drive away. I look at my bag no french fries. I come back park and go inside and wait. I get the counter guy. He looks in my bag to verify that I do t have fries. Like I would take the time to come back and lie about French fries. There were hat but greasy. Wasn't worth returning for them. The sandwich was ok. The crispy part was overcooked. Nearly burned. The fillet is small. With bacon, lettuce and tomato it is impossible to eat with one hand. It falls out of the bun. I won't return. If a fast food fried chicken is what you want go to KFC. read more

Have been going to this location since they opened around a year ago. What I like about Birdcall in general is that they do spicy chicken sandwiches really well, and they have a self-serve kiosk where you can customize your sandwich to your heart's delight. Specifically, their Nashville Hot sandwich is to a must-try if you are into spicy. On my most recent visit, I tried their Triple Threat which was extremely spicy and so incredibly good. In addition, they have a great selection of sauces, extra toppings, sides and drinks (even alcoholic with beer/margs if you're looking to make it a party). I always get their fries and chicken tenders on the side, which is a must have also. So I love Birdcall, but why not 5 stars? Well, I think there are some things to improve both in this specific location and across all their locations. Something I've noticed across all locations including this one is a lack of consistency. Sometimes I go and they mess up the order and/or the sandwich is either not spicy enough or excessively salty. But sometimes I go and they give me the best chicken sandwich of my life. Somethings I've noticed at this specific location that really bug me are that the general layout is pretty annoying and difficult to hang out in, and they never give you a drink cup with your order unless you bug the person behind the counter to give it to you. With the layout, people gather at the kiosks in the corner of the restaurant to either order or wait for their order where there are also the fountain drinks and seating. So they have this one little area that is very crowded and chaotic and a fairly empty remainder of the restaurant. But the flaws I mentioned really are just minor annoyances. The food is really good here and one of the best chicken places to eat at in Denver. If you haven't tried it already, I highly recommend. read more

Stopped here for lunch during the week by myself. The inside has a modern diner feel, fun & welcoming. They weren't too busy and was able to place my order immediately. Their ordering system is on the hi-tech side ... you walk up to one of the stationary iPads and click away. Once you complete your order, your name is up on the monitor and when it's ready, a number is assigned which is the number of the cubbyhole your order will be in. While scrolling through the menu, there were a few things I had some questions on, which the gentleman behind the counter quickly came over to help. In a few short moments, I received my Nashville hot sandwich + fries. The sandwich was amazing-- hot, juicy, fluffy bun, the right amount of spice, and great flavor. Probs my new favorite fast food spot. My only complaint is that it's expensive and everything is a la carte. So the sandwich alone is around $12 and the sides are an extra $5. Their spicy sauces are no joke. I had the Nashville chicken sandwich and the heat was next level, but it was too good not to eat. Plus, I usually don't like sweet pickles, but they made the perfect pair with this sandwich. The tots and fries are freaking delicious, but you don't get a lot for $5. Birdcall was kind enough to reach out and handle the situation that was my last experience. After a really long cool down period, we finally decided to give Birdcall another shot. We ordered an assortment of chicken sandwiches, fries, nuggets, and a shake. We were put off by the tots so much last time that we decided to skip those for now and maybe try them next time if we have a good experience this time. While we waited, we played a few free arcade games and the kids played with the blocks. It's really nice that they have those things available. Inside was also pretty clean. Service was very good. One of our orders looked like it got lost in the system, but I was able to immediately ask someone about it and he went back to the kitchen and came back out with the order. As you can tell from my photos, the chicken sandwich chicken meats are dramatically improved this time compared to that of our first visit. Much bigger in size and not overcooked nor oversalted. The chicken sandwiches were very tasty. The fries are average, which is good because the average fry is still a great product. The strawberry shortcake milkshake was amazing. It was probably our favorite item of the night. The buttermilk ranch dipping sauce was a bit too heavy on the dill, but that's just personal preference I suppose. The road to 5 star redemption was clear until we got to the chicken nuggets. The chicken nuggets had a strangely sweet coating that was slightly burnt. And the chicken nugget was super dry too. You can see from my photo of the chicken nugget, how dry it was because the meat started to separate into dry strings of meat. I hope they go back to the drawing board on their chicken nuggets because I have a hard time believing that people would actually enjoy that coating or that dry meat. My kids, like many other kids, love chicken nuggets in general. It was kind of cute watching them try to convince themselves that they liked Birdcall chicken nuggets simply because they were nuggets. But they finally threw in the towel after a few nuggets and admitted that they didn't like Birdcall nuggets at all. Considering that everything else was very positive, I feel very good about upgrading my score for them from 1 star to 4 stars. We will definitely be back for some chicken sandwiches and shakes, and maybe we will give tots another chance too. read more

This was my second visit and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken is prepared perfectly and the bun is an excellent complement. Most orders are placed via tablets and picked up at the your assigned bin. Our son enjoyed watching the ETA countdown to our meal. When a new spot opens, I MUST GO. ...along with my friends, family, and anyone willing to sit through countless photos of the food we all order before we can FEAST. I'll admit, that number of people is growing or at least the people who dine with me know to expect an excessive amount of photo ops and a wait to eat. HA! After seeing Matt C post his drool-worthy pictures at opening weekend of this spot, I rallied the troops and we made way to Cherry Hill's newest location. Clearly we weren't the only ones with this plan in mind, as it WAS opening weekend, but let me tell you, Birdcall NAILED it and it did not disappoint! FIRST of all the space is SO CUTE and inviting! The front patio is insane and the perfect spot to people watch, catch shade and relax. The interior is spacious, features a variety of seating and can't help but put a smile on anyone's face! SECOND of all - the service is killer. Even though we were greeted with a long line, we were quickly given the run down of how to place an order (via kiosk), pick up our meal (from cubbies in the wall), and snagged a seat in the mean time. We happened to be close to the bar and as soon as the bartender and I locked eyes, she was eager to assist. We settled on the Birdcall Margarita, which was whipped up in 3 seconds flat - AND came with a small shaker to refill once empty! woohoo! THIRD of all - the cocktails and food are BOMB! With the original chicken sandwich being just $1 on opening weekend, we got one of those along with the Nashville Hot, Deluxe (so drippy!) and the Southern because pimento cheese makes my heart go pitter pat! We also decided on an order of fries, seasoned tots and the Brussel sprouts, which came highly recommended. Everything came out quickly, was hot, fresh and tasted delicious! Each sandwich was large in size, was perfectly breaded with a juicy center that created a killer crunch! YUM! I had the rancher which included onion jam and cheese. Tangy and sweet with a little hidden spice. I only wish it was bigger! My sister shared her tots with me and they were incredible! Restaurant quality at a fast food place. I also got a peanut butter cookie dough shake. I'm a sucker for anything peanut butter, however, this one didn't particularly stand out. Pretty good, but I wouldn't buy it again. All in all, a great fast food option that is a little pricier than standard chicken sandwich place. Let me start with the staff that work at Birdcall who are absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant is set up to be almost fully self service, but the staff was ready to jump in and assist, answering questions, making recommendations, and even making conversation. It was awesome and gained them a whole point in my book. The food is very good as well the chicken was hot and juicy, though I was not a huge fan of the Birdcall sauce personally. I was a BIG fan of their tots though. They had a seasoning on them that made them perfect without any dipping sauce and they were the right amount of crispy. The concept itself is a bit confusing since you order at a kiosk, then watch a screen to know when and which bay to pick your order up at. Not complicated just different. Overall we loved Birdcall. I couldn't help but order tater tots, largely because I haven't had them in a long time and partially because they seemed like they were step above what you might get elsewhere. We've been back to both the drive-thru and dine in a few times and I think they've gotten some of their systems down a bit better. I still would like the ability to see a screen with the order numbers while on the patio since we prefer to sit outside. We have noticed the staff are much more attentive and appreciate this! No more asking for drink cups. We both ordered salads recently (we'd previously only ordered them through the drive-thru) and I was a bit confused that they weren't tossed with the dressing. With the thickness of the dressing it was really challenging to shake it up in the bowl so it would be one bite with no dressing and one with way too much.
