I sat down in Bistro 880 in the Doubletree in Newark, Ca at 8:00pm. I was at a dinner table with my mother, husband, and daughter. My father was preforming in the band scheduled to play at 9:00pm. My dinner (fried zucchini) did not arrive to the table until 9:00pm. The staff member(who I assume is the manager) came to me and said, "I need you to leave, the band cannot play unless you leave." I completely understand that there are processes in place, however there is no reason to be rude, especially if we are paying customers who did did not receive their food until 9:00pm. Please do better as this was extremely disappointing customer service. read more

I frequent Bistro 880 on Saturday nights when they have live salsa bands. The atmosphere is awesome and service is always attentive, from the moment we walk in every staff greeted us with smiles. The cocktails tasted really good and price is not too bad for a hotel bar. So when they announced they are having a Mother's Day Brunch buffet, I couldn't resist. I was skeptic and didn't expect much for $45. But was I pleasantly surprised. We booked the 10am seating and there was a line at front where you pay in advance. Then we were ushered to the photo booth, that was fun. As we entered the banquet room, we were impressed right away. I think they opened up all of their banquet spaces because it was spacious and didn't feel cramped at all. There was a seafood station, with abundance of shrimp cocktails, crabs, oysters and muscles galore! Then there's a waffle station, omelet station, and a carving station. The hostess made a mistake of almost putting us in a table for 4 instead of 6, but she quickly got her colleagues to set up another table for us and we sat down within 5 minutes. To our surprise, there was even a live jazz ensemble and a dessert station. The staff were so friendly and attentive, always checking to see if we need more mimosas, coffee or juice and clearing our plates quickly. All in all, my family and friends had a wonderful start to our Mother's Day celebration. They also have prime rib nights on the weekends. Wanna know why it's called 880? Because it's right off the 880 highway! Lol! But I actually am not sure if that's the real reason. 880 Bistro is located right inside Double Tree Hotel right off of Stevenson. Once you enter, it has a really high ceiling with a chandelier! It's a wide open space with a lot of comfy couches with a bar. The servers are really friendly too! My friends and I came here & ordered the 880 burger with fries ($14). The 880 burger is your regular burger with bacon. My friend & I agreed the burger is missing a sauce to tie it together. Burgers comes along with condiments in a tiny bottle! Which is really cute!! Talked to server & she said that on Tuesdays, they have a live band! Friday & Saturday nights, they alternate between a dj & a live band so you can definitely boogie down & dance the night away! It's almost a year since I first came to know this place called Bistro 880 in Newark, CA. Last year in July, my best friend took me out for a birthday weekend and stayed at Double Tree Hotel where Bistro 880 is located. We've been celebrating birthdays there or just simple Friday girls outing because, #1 their food (especially their Prime Rib dinner special) is exquisite, #2 their staff are awesome (Veronica, Lupe and many others, and led by manager Susan). This is the only place I can say that we enjoy coming for dinner and entertainment. I highly recommend this place. #3, the hotel we love. Clean room and front desk customer service is awesome. The only one man who always assist us with our bags to bring to our room is excellent. Overall, this will always be our home away from home. read more

Spending the night and the restaurant offered a weekend prime rib special downstairs and we thought to give it a try. The salad was beautiful and included heirloom tomatoes which popped with flavor in my mouth. The prime rib had just enough but not too much marble. They included mashed potatoes and were willing to substitute carrots for the asparagus. A lovely presentation and plenty of food. I ended up taking 1/2 home with me. Dessert was a light cheese cake which was perfect after feasting on prime rib. Even the coffee exceeded expectations. All in all pleasantly surprised by the presentation and quality of the meal! To top it off, our server, Veronica, was attentive without being intruding. She took great care of us and went beyond what was her responsibility to make sure we had a great meal. The ambiance is okay, nothing too special, but then again we were in a hotel. All in all we were glad to have taken advantage of their weekend special. DO NOT GO HERE. i went to take my mother and grandmother to a mother's day brunch where i made a reservation to 9:15 am. when we arrived they claimed to be closing early because mother's day brunch was at 10 am. we were utterly confused & questioned where our reservations went. then they grab an assignment manager who we showed we made the reservations & all she could say to us was "i don't know let me grab my boss." then comes in the boss, sits down & doesn't once say something along the lines of "i'm sorry for the inconvenience." instead the boss has the most disgusting attitude, who just kept repeating "i'm doing you guys a favor." i am absolutely in shock & disgusted with this man. this was one of the most disrespectful, uncaring, COCKY man i have ever met. he does NOT care for his costumers nor his business. we ended up leaving and having to scramble last minute to find a different option. there is the screenshot we provided multiple times & we're still questioned to see it. overpriced food with a side of attitude? no thank you. read more

Came here on a Saturday night last month with about 20 of my friends to celebrate my birthday. Some of us got there early about 8pm just to grab some appetizers and a table for our big group since they said they dont do reservations. The waiter we got was super friendly and attentive, the food was pretty tasty once we got it and the bartenders were funny and social. (I think they were excited to see new faces and we kept them busy!) DJ Tasi was the best...he played all the great music from salsa, reggaeton, hip hop, pop, banda whatever you wanted he would accommodate. Everyone commented on how he played all the right songs. (Apparently this place alternates between DJ and live band so call ahead to find out) Lights go down and music starts right at 9pm and no cover charge...its part of the hotel. *The crowd here was definitely older...not many people but the ones there seemed to be in their 50's+ but I got the heads up from a friend so I was prepared lol. I brought 20 of my friends between the ages of 25-40 who like to dance and we had a blast on the dance floor and grubbing on food. I'm suprised this place doesnt advertise more...I think they could get popular because people dont want to drive to SF or SJ for a nice bar. In my case, I just wanted a nice local bar that we could party at and Lyft it home in less than 5minutes. So if you are planning on going here just invite a good amount of friends so you can fill up the dance floor. A couple of reasons I didn't give it 5 stars: my friends ordered some entrees which took a really long time to come out, also it would be nice to have the option to reserve a table for a party & lastly there was some pageant going on in one of their ballrooms that night so parking outside was awful. Some of us had to park in the back where the lighting was bad...nothing happened to our cars but it felt a little sketch it would be nice with big events like that to hire security to driving around patrolling for the night. We stayed at this Hilton to visit relatives, but also to enjoy a romantic weekend. Bistro 880 definitely pleased us in every aspect. We ordered lettuce wraps, gyoza dumplings, and sushi for dinner. All of it was amazing. The lettuce wraps were so fresh and flavorful. The sushi was fresh, delicious, and perfectly portioned. We then stayed to listen to DJ Tasi and danced the night away. Music was non stop party hits to please all genres. Avonna was a great and friendly bartender. She made an amazing cosmo martini. Wonderful selections of wine with reasonable price points. We shared a bottle of pinot noir while we danced all night. The next morning we had the breakfast buffet, which was a wonderful selection of breakfast options and an omelet bar. We've been here before and the food and service remains stellar. If you love French Onion Soup- come here. I declare they have an amazing French onion soup. The hubby took me here to order that and for dancing after (they have a live band Saturday nights) I had the French Onion Soup and chicken wings- which were also delicious. I've also had their turkey croissant sandwich in the past which is amazing, too. Their cocktails are scrumptious. I had their blueberry mojito and their modern cosmopolitan, both strong and tasty! What we really like though is their service. They really take care of you here! If you're lucky enough to have Adela as your server, she is amazing and so sweet. She sets the standard for service. stay two nights at the Doubletree hotel that this restaurant is attached to. First night I ordered a Caesar salad and a beer. I came back to second night to a different bartender. I waited 10 minutes before I had to get her attention away from her cell phone. I ordered the exact same thing as the night before, which was OK the first time. This time the $20 Caesar salad with grilled chicken was soaked in dressing and wasn't very good. Normally not a big deal as it was probably a different cook in the back. The problem was the bartender never came to ask how my meal was, never asked me for a refill on my beer. Again I had to flag her down just to get my check and pay my bill. To put things in perspective there were two bartenders, The one serving my side only had one other customer the whole time I was there. Her name is Eliana or at least that's the name on my receipt. To summarize my experience this bar/restaurant is overpriced, crappy service and the food is mediocre at best. Definitely will not be coming back. read more

The band was Vintage Dance Band who became my friends. I don't have anything but great things to say about this place. Wow. Walked in 30'mins ago and it was dead. Dj playing. 3 people dancing. 3 people at the bar WITH drinks. I stood at the bar for 5 minutes as the two bartenders walked by and didn't make eye contact. As the manager stood at the end of the bar. A couple of older ladies walked up to the deli counter part of the bar and both bartenders went over there to serve them two beers. This was my first time trying out the restaurant. I made reservations for 6:30pm over the phone (4 days earlier) to celebrate my husband's birthday. As I looked around, the restaurant was pretty empty, so I then realized that we probably didn't need to reserve. Anyway, when the food arrived, everything looked great. My salmon was warm and seasoned just right, however, when I started eating the salad, I noticed something unusual with every bite that felt gritty like sand! I drank some water and ate more salmon which was fine. I probed through the salad and couldn't see anything so I took another bite....same thing! I told the waiter about it, and he offered me another salad, however, I simply replied "no thanks". Last night visit gave me a disgusting taste in my mouth and I completely embarrassed for even take my friends here. We looked at the wine menu, I saw "2010 Mark West Pinot Noir Carneros" for $37, it was a good deal. I ordered, while I trusted this is a Hilton Honors property, they would NOT cheat their customers. They sent out a completely different bottle different vintage, and appellation. They sent out the "2014 Mark West Pinot Noir California", were they thinking that I'm stupid or what? I explained to the server "Carneros is an appellation in Napa Valley", there is 16 appellations. If the bottle state "Carneros" all grapes are from that appellation/district (1 of the 16 in Napa Valley). If the bottle just states Napa Valley, the grapes come from all over 16 appellations/districts of Napa Valley. If the bottle states California, the grapes can come from all over the state of California which is much cheaper to produce. Why does it matter? Because the pricing will be significantly different, and so the quality. I told my server, she was nice and said she didn't know the different. Her manager (supposedly the bartender), the tall ball head guy, came by with a freaking attitude. Held the bottle on our table to his arm, DID NOT apology for the mistake, said that if we didn't want it, he took all our glasses away and we could order something else. What kind of service is that? Are you freaking kidding me? He dares to say "all our wines are from California." That wasn't what I complained, it was the WRONG vintage, WRONG appellation, Bistro 880 mistake, he got the attitude such as it was our fault, WTF? By the way, you have Moet Chandon Champagne on your menu, it is NOT from California dude! It's from Champagne, France. LEARN WHAT YOU SERVED FIRST BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR DAMN MOUTH. We then ordered the 2012 Greyser Cab, Alexander Valley, they didn't have the right vintage either!!! Then another manager came by with 4 bottles of wines in her arms, she acted as we were begging to be there. Put down harshly 4 bottles of wines on our table: "Well, we have all the wines here, what do you want? Our menu is NOT UP TO DATE, our GM supposed to do it." Damn she ratted out the GM. DID NOT apologize... I then asked: "What about the Wente bottle here? It's not on the menu?" She replied: "Well, we don't have it on the menu, but I can sell to you $9 per glass." Then asked: "what about the price for a bottle?" She said: "$42" really? 4 glasses x $9 = $36, a bottle can pour 4 glasses of 6 oz... I asked her why the different, if she is sure? The bottle of the bottle should always cheaper then you order by the glass. She just walked away all pissed! WOW. She was ANGRY as it was miserable for her to work there. My friends and I were so fed up at this point. As a HHonors member, I'm disgusted by the service and the management here. They need to be educated to serve their guests. They need to understand that we are educated guests, not some dumb ass people to get CHEATED by easily. We pay fair and square. And if the bartender and the restaurant manager on SAT night 12/10/16 were uneducated and don't have the knowledge about their wine list, they need to learn how to serve to be in this hospitality business. It is the WORST service I have ever been to any bar/lounge/restaurant in recent years. And I have traveled the world and I rarely gave 1 star. That's enough said about my experience here last night. We had a mom's night out on a Friday evening. It's a pretty modern looking lobby and bar. There was maybe 7-8 of us sitting on bar stools. Unfortunately the bartender was less than friendly and just shot us annoying looks when we asked for a plate or utensils or when we complained about finding a hair in the food. The food and drinks were fine. There's a DJ/band on Fridays and Saturdays after 9pm. The crowd is older maybe retirees and empty nesters, some younger. It an alternative of something to do in Fremont however come with low expectations of service from the bar. read more

Update: after my one star review, the executive chef called me to personally apologize. He comped my entire meal, which was far more than I expected the restaurant to do. He also invited me in for dinner and drinks that night on him. When I came in, because I believe that businesses have occasional bad nights and I believed that things could be different, they were exceptionally kind and attentive. I ordered the lemon ricotta ravioli with Alfredo sauce and chicken on the server's recommendation and it was DELICIOUS. The chicken was very tender, the ravioli was perfect, and the Alfredo sauce was level and ideal. The Mark West Pinot Noir I got was wonderful, and the FOH manager came out and gave me a French 75 to see if they could make it better. It was very good. He apologized for the previous night and I told him that he certainly did not have to go to ALL this trouble, but that it was absolutely appreciated. I will certainly be back in a month; everyone makes mistakes and I firmly believe the character of a restaurant is shown in the way they handle those mistakes and poor reviews. I'm very impressed with this team and so appreciate how they wowed me that second time around. I rarely review things; it has to be pretty extreme one way or the other for me to say much. And I don't like leaving negative reviews. I'm very familiar with the industry though, and I travel a lot for work and eat at restaurants almost more often than not, and I'm really disappointed. My bill, with a 15% tip (and I normally tip 20% or more) came to $82. I had two sushi rolls, one cocktail, and two glasses of wine. Even for a hotel restaurant, this felt REALLY excessive, but I'd have less of an issue if literally anything else had been even decent or par. My server was enthusiastic at first, but I placed a drink order along with my food order and waited nearly 30 minutes for him to come back. He arrived with my food, but no drink, which I waited nearly another 15 minutes for. All told, I probably needed less than 20 minutes total to eat and drink and my experience lasted over 2 hours, though I can't figure out why. My server was one of four on the floor, in addition to three bar staff, and yet it easily took 20 minutes in between each time my server visited me, and there were not more than 6 or 7 tables with people at them (and all tables, save one, had four people or fewer.) I had my first bite of my rainbow roll and could immediately tell that something didn't taste right. The fish was VERY fishy. I was starving and willing to take my chances, but the taste was terrible. I didn't finish my rolls. I had ordered a French 75 cocktail, which I drink pretty regularly, and this one tasted like someone poured an entire cup of simply syrup into a glass of well gin. My stomach immediately felt sour after my first drink, so I asked to switch to sparkling wine after. That cocktail was $15. Finally, the bartender had recommended a red blend which I ordered to take back to my room. I gave him my card to close out and went to the restroom. I came back to my tab (the amount of which was a little shocking) and no glass of wine. I sat down and waited for nearly another 15 minutes, trying to get contact with my server, who at this point was sitting at the register chatting with the bartenders, looking around and not doing anything. He eventually made eye contact with me and panicked a little because he realized I still didn't have a glass of wine. Got back to my room and took the plastic off the glass (that I had asked him not to put on there) and the recommended wine tastes like bad communion wine. I'll probably just leave it since I'm not walking all the way back. As I said, I travel for work a lot and am a Hilton Honors member. I am accustomed to average hotel food and bigger price tags. This whole experience was so bad that it's making me reconsider my scheduled stay at this same hotel a month from now. I've stayed at probably half a dozen hotels in this city and hotel food is never something to write home about but this was a real low. The food at my office's campus cafeteria was like a Michelin Star in comparison O today, and I'm definitely nervous about how I feel later tonight. read more

We went there last night with some friends. I brought a bottle of my favorite wine and so did my friend. We asked to be seated close to the band who happened to be our friend, so she seated us at the bar lounge. I asked our waitress Jordan about their corkage fee. She repied $10 but she will make sure. She came back and she said $15. The bartender opened my wine and left after I asked for 6 wine glasses. The manager came to our table and said we cannot drink our wine there so we have to move to the restaurant - a few feet away from where we were saeated. Then he said corkage fee is $35. I said no way because his waitress confirmed to me that it was $15. So he agreed but we still have to move to the restaurant table. We had no choice as the wine bottle was already open. This is the most stupid policy I have ever encountered. The bar and the restaurant are under the same owner and management. What's the difference if we drink our wine that we are paying corkage for in the restaurant or at the bar lounge? It doesn't really make any sense to me. I will never go back to that place even if it is the last place on earth to dine in. read more
