This came highly recommended from a friend. When I walked in I was pretty shocked. Was I walking into a "Walking Dead" set?? They had chain link fences covered in see-through plastic as table dividers.....it was hideous. Clearly it was using the cheapest way to "safely" divide the indoor space (and I put safe in quotes because some of the fences didn't even have plastic). So I didn't see a point in the fences. It did not match the photos that you see on Yelp. The service is also very unfriendly and slow, and they were not even that many busy tables when we arrived. The waitress was either having a bad day or just impatient. I would ask her questions about the menu and she just look irritated the entire time. The food is 3.5 for me. It's tasty but nothing special, I can easily go to another restaurant without chain-link fences for the same caliber. Amazing food, great service, clean restaurant. Full bar available. I recommend the spaghetti with crab of course!! Honestly it is lifechanging!! Also enjoyed the lasagna which does take 20 min to be prepared. We ordered the fresh salmon with grated wasabi which was salmon sashimi and curlicues of wasabi which was incredible, my first time having fresh wasabi. Also got the veggie sticks with roe dip and the dip was so savory and yummy! I don't think this place can go wrong with anything so order anything off their huge menu and enjoy. Wow! What happened to this place? It came highly recommended and when we were seated and hardly anyone here on Valentine's night, we got the lasagna first before the appetizers. Then after that was corrected, they later brought back the lasagna and 20 minutes later we got our two dinner plates and the birthday celebrant got his steak almost 2 hours later. We were seated at 6 pm and got his dinner at 7:51 pm. Lousy service and our waitress was not knowledgeable with the menu. The food all tasted ok and their rum and coke only had 5% alcohol and 95 % coke . The pasta servings were pretty good size but we will never come back here again. read more

This place definitely checked all the boxes for me. Great menu filled with authentic Japanese food as well as plenty of pasta choices that blend very well together. One of my favorite items was a frosty ice cold Kirin beer that really hit the spot on a hot LA day. We arrived before 7:00pm on a Friday and the place was very empty, but over the course of the next couple of hours the place really filled up. They also have a great whiskey selection for fans of that type of beverage. This has become my new favorite place for great food and drinks on a weekend night. read more

I am extremely grateful for my friend who is so resourceful when it comes to finding a casual restaurant with great cocktails. Bistro Beaux is one of the many Japanese eateries in Torrance and it does not disappoint. We made reservations for two for a Saturday evening after work. The restaurant is not big. There are maybe 8 to 10 tables that can be joined together to accommodate a larger group and there is ample bar seating as well. I hope you like pasta because Bistro Beaux has a VERY extensive spaghetti menu and everything looks really good. * appetizer - we ordered chips and a seafood wasabi dip. The dip was really yummy and the wasabi really opens up your sinuses. They will bring you more chips when you run low. * spaghetti with crab butter and white sauce - this was super creamy and really delicious. My friend said she could definitely taste the crab and I could definitely smell the butter when it arrived to the table. It was comfort food at it's best. * squid ink spaghetti - by far my favorite of the two pasta dishes we ordered. The left over even tasted good the next day. The drinks - now, I honestly do not know my alcohol and I like to drink pretty drinks that are sweet and do not have any strong alcohol taste. The alcohol menu is huge and I had no idea what I was looking for . The server said that they have a full bar so they could make whatever I wanted. I just knew I wanted the pretty drinks I saw in the Yelp photos. lol. When I showed her the photos she knew exactly what I was talking about and both drinks were delicious. * soju lychee with grapefruit and a second rainbow colored drink - both were exactly what I wanted. sweet and refreshing. By the time we left at 9:30pm the place was packed so I definitely do recommend calling in advance for reservations, especially for Friday or Saturday evenings. By the time we left Bistro Beaux, the place was packed! Try I as I might, I could not figure out why so many people were attracted to this place - a Japanese restaurant that leans heavily toward Italian food. They did neither very well. All of their plates were small and expensive. Their fillet mignon is about the size of a silver dollar and served on a salad size place with just a bit of greens on the side for $22! You don't have to worry about getting drunk on their drinks. Not that they are chintzy on the alcohol, nope! They use one cube of ice that took up about 90% of the glass! The servers tried their best but they were just not very efficient or accurate. The dishes came late and we were not exactly what was ordered. Next time? I love Japanese restaurants that serve pasta, but this place is an exception. I had the spaghetti with clams in tomato sauce and it was drowning in oil (please see photo below). I've never experienced pasta with tomato sauce at any restaurant that was drench in so much oil - it was disgusting! I drove all the way up here from Irvine to try this place with my sons after we saw it the last time we were in the area and my middle son loves pasta, so we made a note to come back and try it out. We were turned away when we arrived. This was apparently due to the fact we didn't make a reservation? This is third of three places the chef at Seoul Sausage recommended to me: The other two were winnahz, so I expected nothing less at Bistro Beaux. One of the specialties of the house is a squid ink pasta, that is so dark it stains your mouth! BB is on Western at Carson in Torrance, next door to previously reviewed Matsui. I came here with my pal Cheonjae (Korean for Genius). BTW, beaux means to escort a woman for a night out, so I thought this would be a good place for both of us to try for the first time. We ordered uni shume ($9.80 - enoki mushrooms w/ uni), chicken karaage ($7.80), filet w/ shoyu & garlic ($19.80), ikasumi ($14.80 - squid ink pasta), and prosciutto pizza ($8.80). They have a full bar here, and Genius had a grey goose martini ($10), while I had a Yamazaki 12 year old Japanese whisky ($16). First of all, the uni shume was just OK. The mushrooms were a bit chewy, and the uni was cooked. To me, uni should always be served raw. Nonetheless, the dish didn't taste bad: 3 Stars. Secondarily, the karaage was very good. The chicken was tender, the batter was not greasy, and it was not overcooked: 4 Stars. Thirdly, the steak was a disappointment. It was salty and the portion was small for the price - It was $20 for 6 small pieces of meat!: 2 Stars. Our next item, the ikasumi was not as good as we expected. Genius thought it was salty, while I thought the ika was overcooked. However, this dish didn't taste bad either. Nonetheless, keep in mind, what goes in, must come out (48 Hours - LOL): 3 Stars. Lastly, the pizza was not that unique. It was basically meat on a cracker. However, the portion was decent sized and the prosciutto tasted OK after drizzling a little olive oil on top: 3 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, it is very nice. The full bar catches your eye when you walk in. There are numerous tables in the small space. On the other hand, a major downside was paper napkins: 3 Stars. The service was OK. Our waitresses were nice, but they were not proactive: 3 Stars. Well, Alex: Two out of three ain't bad! The consensus is, we would not return. 4.5 stars but since it's Friday I'll round up. I had no idea what to expect upon entering. The set up of the restaurant is cozy/private with a touch of urban pop. For example, my table was separated by a metal criss cross gate forming a "fake" wall. The inside was "open" and casual with just enough lighting where it's not a forced "romanticism," but plenty to see what you're eating. Spinach Salad I could do without, but wasn't too bad. I would've liked more sauce/flavor, but it's a good dish to keep around for cleansing the palette. Squid ink pasta, very generous with the number of squid pieces and not too salty. My favorites would be the beef flanks in garlic sauce. I got it medium cooked and it was just perfect, the sauce was delicious, where I almost wanted to just drink it. However, I held myself back since I was in public. The daikon soaked up the sauce and I just ate it as so, don't judge me! The other favorite was the honey mustard chicken (on the special menu). Chicken was cooked tenderly with the sauce, just the right amount of flavor and texture. Service was fantastic, came by enough to refill drinks. We had bottle of Pinot Grigio and a few martinis after, the drinks were inexpensive, a Goose vodka lemon drop martini was only $10, it was surprisingly tasty and strong, the bartender put in so much effort making our martinis! Menu is big, we ordered a few to share, the portions were not even small for tapas, I suppose it's more like small plates drinking food right? The very good: Marinated scallops with chopped tomatoes and onions: great drinking food, very flavorful and tasty. Vegetable sticks with housemade dipping sauce: very fresh veggies, loved the sauce, I put it on other things too! Angel hair noodle in a broth with clams: loved the flavorful broth, the angel hair was so yummy even though I only had a bite, clams were fresh and tender. The good: Mushrooms with grilled sea urchin: the sauce was bomb, grilled Uni tasted funny but still delicious. Uni pasta: hubby likes Uni so much and pasta too, so it was an ideal dish for him. He liked it a lot. Miso soup with clams: generous amount of fresh clams, soup was comforting. The OK: Special of the night Cod fish: the fish was fresh but a bit hard and chewy, a little bland too. Bistro Beaux was a great place to have a late night dinner due to its casual atmosphere. It reminds me of Japan in a couple of ways-- besides the Western Japanese fusion food, this seems like a place that has regulars. The mixologist behind the bar was crafting cocktails with pride and something about it reminded me of a Japanese movie I watched earlier last year that highlighted just how much the restaurant experience can be enjoyed. But I digress. We shared since we weren't quite ready for a full meal ourselves and this proved to be satisfying, though now I think back to it, we both could have had our own meals. We shared the Sauteed Eryngii Mushroom & Sea Urchin since it looked very lovely on Yelp. My friend really enjoyed this and I liked the flavors-- you can taste a bit of alcohol in the sauce and the mushrooms were pretty close to perfect. The sea urchin, I thought, could be a bit softer and still keep that nice uni texture you get from eating it raw. I know that they grill or sear it but it is too much so as the texture is a bit harder than expected. The Spaghetti in Crab Butter White Sauce was excellent and what you would completely expect from a Western Japanese fusion dish. It was creamy and went well with the nori flakes atop. I would have liked more nori flakes so there is more in each bite but I don't think they want to overpower it. I'd revisit this place again if I were closer to the area after I've tried mostly everything around here. It certainly gets the job done and service was just ok. My husband and I had such a hard time finding it because they don't really have a sign up and it's located in the back of the plaza, near Daiso (same plaza as 85C, Musha, Matsui, etc.) I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. Although it's a casual restaurant, it could definitely be a place for a date if you're looking for somewhere casual but also kinda nice and intimate. They have a full bar, and there's music playing in the background but it's still quiet enough to have a good conversation. Their menu has a ton of options, including daily specials. I looove Japanese-Italian (the gold standard being Spoon House) so I was excited to try their dishes! We shared the following: - Tomato and Mozzarella Salad: This was basically a twist on the traditional caprese salad. There were basil leaves, tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella, but instead of the usual balsamic, they had a really delicious garlicky vinegary dressing on top, with some kind of herbs in it. It was delicious!! Great appetizer! - Sautéed Corn and Mushrooms: This was one of their daily specials. OMG! I couldn't believe how good it was. It is a really simple side, only $4.80 but it came sauteed in an amazing, delicious light and buttery sauce. I don't even like mushrooms but I LOVED this dish! - Spaghetti with Squid Ink: this is one of their more popular dishes. But WARNING: do NOT get this if you're here on a FIRST date or if you're trying to impress your date... it makes your whole mouth and teeth completely BLACK!! My husband and I got a good laugh out of it. It tasted pretty good too. Not amazing, but good and surprisingly light. I liked the bites where I could taste the lemon. Japanese Italian bar food. A 4 word phrase that should be right up there with "all day happy hour", "all you can eat", and "no minimum order size". Okay, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but if you have tried Italian food done the Japanese way you might agree. I come for the squid ink pasta, spaghetti and meat sauce, mushroom and uni, and seafood soup risotto and can't recommend them enough. The dishes might sound a bit pedestrian, but that Japanese flair makes them special. Perfectly seasoned, just al-dente enough, with the right balance of umami and acid bring these Italian dishes to that next crave-worthy level. This place also has bunch of different whiskeys and wine that compliments their fusion fare. You can have yourself a glass of Japanese whiskey or Scotch, or they have whiskey flights if you can't decide. The portions here are kind of small but very filling. We ordered the Clam Linguini & Tuna Pasta. Both were good but the tuna pasta was better. It was creamy and had lots of tuna and mushrooms. The Linguini was nothing special. The service wasn't that great. However, the other tables received excellent service. The chef even came out to greet and shake their hands. There was no one there the entire time we were there and we were there from 6:00-7:30pm on a Friday night. I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio that was $14 and they gave me 1/4 of a glass and insisted that was their standard glass. I wish I took a picture of the glass because it was an absolute joke what they poured. The clams with butter and keema curry were excellent however the sea urchin pasta was bland and very pricey. The calamari was insanely small and overpriced and they even took up half the plate with a random salad. Would not be returning unfortunately read more

The food is here really good! The place may not look too fancy, but my friend and I like the taste of their dishes. Although sometimes the service might be a little bit slow, but it's worth the wait. The staff is also friendly. A little bit expensive, but we don't mind spending a little bit. Great French Restaurant and Bar! I visited last night with a friend to catch up over some drinks and food. Started with a Hibiki Harmony on the rocks (or one giant ice cube), then moved onto their wines. For food I ordered the spicy bean sprouts and squid ink pasta. Seriously.... who would think that bean sprouts would be a good appetizer? Definitely not me, but then my friend highly recommended it. Upon trying the dish, I was a believer. The bean sprouts are cooked to perfection where they are soft but still have a bit of crunch left to them. And they soak the sprouts into some sort of sauce with beef. Their squid ink was also impressive. Word of advice to those who don't know how to eat pasta neatly - the squid ink is very black and can get very messy, so be careful! But I must say, the squid ink pasta was cook almost al dente and had some great flavors. I noticed hints of citrus mixed into the ink sauce. Overall impression is that you'll find it a great dining experience. The pasta is japanese style and the drinks are awesome. Definitely perfect for a happy hour. They have a full bar. I've never had a Scrambled egg with sea urchin. It was so good! The hubby enjoyed the wild duck. The shishito peppers were big. Stay away from this place Here are the facts: When we ordered, the server advised us that pasta dishes would take 30 to 40 minutes. In actuality, our dishes took 1 hour and 15 minutes. During this time, our server, who looked she could have been the owner, was socializing with a woman at another table for at least 15 minutes. She never came over after we ordered to let us know the status of our food. The mochi prosciutto special was lacking any flavor. The linguine with clams (pasta vongole) contained the tiniest clams ever. Additionally, the only flavor the dish had was the excessive amount of fresh Basil. It was overwhelming! My niece ordered the squid ink pasta and it was too salty for her to eat because it hurt her throat. When she advised the server, the server said "we'll check it" before taking it back to the kitchen. When she came back, she said "this tastes the way it's supposed to". Did she take a bite of the pasta herself? I don't want to think about it. I don't know what was worse, the fact that the server may have eaten the pasta or that she told my niece what she told her. My niece has ordered this dish at other restaurants so she knows what it is supposed to taste like. Overall, this was a terrible dining experience: bad service and bad food. read more

Every bite was delicious. I really love izakaya style restaurants. Anything tapas style... small bites, big taste! Let's see, here's what we got: tuna and avocado tartar, engirri muchrooms with sea urchin, steak with garlic sauce, spicy bean sprouts, chicken karagee, prosciutto pizza, squid ink pasta, sauteed corn and mushroom, and clams in sake. Hard to say, since all of it was quite good. Standouts? The mushrooms with sea urchin was so rich and tasteful. I don't like uni sushi, but I really liked the sauteed sea urchin. The steak with garlic sauce was cooked perfectly, very tender. The squid ink pasta is a must try, and fairly unusual to find. For dessert, we had tiramisu and the frozen custurd. The tiramisu was pretty run-of-the-mill, but the frozen custard was excellent and unusual. Kind of like a frozen flan or creme brulee. All this between four people was about $200 with drinks and tip. Horrible service. I go in at 10:58pm on a Saturday night, expecting them to close at 1am like listed on Yelp. As soon as I get in, the lady tries to sway me to leave by saying i only had 2 minutes to order and that they close at 12am. Okay, sure no problem, I know what I want, I'll just eat quickly. As she's showing us to our table, she demands to know if we're vaccinated. It's no problem to ask us but to be so hostile about it was unnecessary. My friend felt uneasy sitting down, so I ordered to go instead, not wanting to bother the workers anymore than we already seemed to be. I ordered the squid ink spaghetti. It was not tasty, and i would not recommend it even for curious first timers to try. Every bit of squid on my plate had something hard and crunchy inside of it so I stopped trying after the first three. I get over everything because i thought, maybe they're just having a rough night, it's no big deal. I've had their crab pasta before and remember that being delicious. There's still some hope for next time. I work nearby and decided to call for takeout for my lunch break. When they answered, I was met with a, "we aren't doing to-go orders tonight." I then ask if I could order in person for takeout if payment was the issue or if I had to try my luck eating in person. Im met with the same dismissive, "we aren't doing takeout tonight." what should i say about this place? it's so polarizing... here's what i thought Food - food is top notch. it's the level of quality you'd expect at a similar restaurant in japan, i would say italian style izakaya level in shinjuku or shibuya... maybe the guy used to work at saizeriya or something because that's kind of the food they serve. if i were to rate this place only on food, its 4/5. very impressive...... except its about 30% too expensive. there's just nothing that they offer that's worth what they serve, regardless of quality. $9.50 Fried mochi with prosciutto - interesting flavor n texture. i thought the mochi was a bit thick/heavy, and it certainly wasn't fried enough $9.80 Fried yam and sweet potato with honey n butter - this dish was the 2nd and was also a great tasting dish. it's so deceptively simple and tasty. the portion was quite small tho, i don't think there was even 1 whole potato on the plate $14.80 Mochi & spicy cod roe sauce naan pizza style - this dish was amazing! it's so simple yet the ingredients all work together to give it unique flavor. if you like mentaiko, you'll love this dish. i just wish there was more roe $24.80 Crab butter spagetti - this dish was great but the problem was that it took over 1 hour to arrive and i wasn't even hungry any more i wanted to order more but didn't want to wait Environment - it's strange here. i get the whole unfinished warehouse look, but then in the middle they suddenly have a nice looking upscale/old school bar area. it looks really mismatched and the gate/fencing is really out of place. def does not match the food they serve Drinks - i only ordered 2 drinks from here because it was happy hour so a few things were half off.. the drinks in general were marked way the heck up. it's just too expensive. why is a whiskey high ball $12 normally? its a couple cents of sparkling water and $1-2 of whiskey. why are draft beers $10+ $9 for asahi draft? $10 lemon sour? $12 for 1 shot of JD? $12 for 1 shot of dewars? $14 for a shot of toki? toki cost $29.99 at costco wtf? are they mental? charging half the bottles price for 1 shot? all drinks are so insanely over priced im surprised anyone would order drinks from them at all $6 happy hour high ball - even at $6, i still thought it was a ripoff. for the small portion, it should be even cheaper, not kidding. In japan, these high balls are 2-3x the size and cost 300 yen $17 mellow mood - this sounded interesting, but once i got it, i regret it so bad. it's basically matcha green tea + creme de menthe + creamer... but barely any alcohol. definitely not worth $17 and not sure why it took over 20 minutes to come out $8 for a melon soda with ice cream is robbery, you can buy bottled melon soda for $2 and get a tub of vanilla for $3 and make several for the price they charge so i didn't even bother after the first 2 drinks wanted draft beer but no way i'm paying $9 for 1 glass of asahi draft they serve everywhere else for $5-6 Service.. ok so this is what i saw a lot of complaints about. and i thought the complaints were ridiculous until i saw it for myself. I walked in already having reservations. the boss lady pointed to the wall and gestured to sit down.. we sit. she tells us to get up n sit at the other identical table because the one we got was reserved and our reserved table is the other identical one.. ok so we move. shortly after, 2 chatty japanese females enter and sit at that initial table. they get food / appetizers almost immediately while we have been waiting for our first order (fried mochi with prosciutto) for almost 30 minutes.. they get their main entree in 15 minutes and i'm still waiting for my main entree over 1 hour in... this supports the other reviewers complaints we then see the boss lady walk to 2 asian american girls that were seated in the middle and say they need to leave now because there's a reservation on their seats in 15 minutes.. so they leave and the wait staff put their table together with another one supposedly for incoming reservations.. no one came in for over 1 hour after they left and no one showed up there even after we left aside from the seating issues, the boss lady and the japanese american girl waitress were horrible. they never look at you or ask if you need anything.. you always need to fling your arms around wildly or make some loud noise to get their attention. it's very unwelcoming, which is why i wanted to leave early. there was a well dressed japanese male waiter that was very nice and attentive, but he was also often busy running around doing other things while the other two avoided looking at tables for the most part. also strangely, when i asked the girl waitress about daily specials, she literally said "i don't know" and told me to ask the boss lady. i think that's kind of silly and unprofessional. i get this is not a michelin star place but at least know the menu? they don't respect their non regulars, just imo def won't be back read more

If you like to wait over 50min for pasta this is the place for you! We waited 20min before the hostess told us it is going to take another 20-30min before we would get our food but said if we ordered appetizers that would come out right away. Unless the pasta was made from scratch (which I doubt because i couldn't tell) it should not take this long. I'm guessing all the appatizers everyone is recommended to order is pushing out all the main courses being cook by what is possibly one chef? Overall....there are much better food elsewhere with a much shorter wait. The bartender and server were nice though....so 2 stars. read more
