For appetizers we had the lump crabmeat and beet salad and the poached oysters in Herbsaint cream sauce with fennel, spinach and croutons (fantastic). For mains we had the shrimp and grits with a lemon, basil and garlic beurre blanc (wonderful) and the bouillabaisse (very good but wish there was a greater variety of seafood). This has been on my list to try forever! And I finally shared a lovely birthday meal with family members recently. And why did I wait so long! The service, location and meal were lovely! I had the apple/endive salad but the preparation was outstanding! By making such precise cuts, the salad was the perfect bite with every mouthful. I had a yummy fish dish with beurre blanc and crabmeat. The location is in a converted house which makes for an intimate and enjoyable meal. A hidden gem on Magazine Street in the Garden District. Went for a dinner during a recent trip to New Orleans with friends. Nice to sit in a private alcove in a restaurant in a charming, renovated historic home. So cute and cozy. So many delicious choices for dinner and dessert. Chef Anton creates nightly specials as well. The pumpkin soup special was perfect for a chilly Halloween weekend night. So rich and comforting. Delicious! Hard to choose between the duck and the lamb, but chose the leg of lamb special served on risotto that was recommended by a friend. So tender that it just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. A great choice. For dessert, the creamsicle baked Alaska is so pretty and so creative. A Meyer lemon sorbet is hidden inside the browned meringue served over a raspberry coulis. The blueberry cobbler was delicious, too. Add a hot tea as a nice way to end the meal. Limited parking, but street parking is available. Make a reservation, the restaurant is small and quite popular. After sitting down in the cozy quaint dining room, we were delighted to see all the decorations on the table celebrating my mom's birthday. Each and every dish we had was impeccably crafted, as fresh as I've ever had, and full of flavor and excellent presentation. The thing that really stood out to us was how genuinely happy each and every member of the staff was to be serving us, we felt like we experienced southern hospitality at its very finest. Recently returned to my favorite locals restaurant for my birthday. WHAT A MEAL!!! This family owned Bistro is perhaps the best restaurant of its type in this "food centric" city. The chef/owner and maitre'd/owner are always in house and it shows! Manning the bar Diane keeps the place quietly humming, with a team of attentive and knowledgeable waiters. Every detail is tended to ie fresh cut roses on the mantels, immaculately furnished restrooms, and elegant table settings. Her bar service is second to none and her wine cellar, while limited to 20-30 whites and 20-30 reds, has only best in class selections for the price point and specific varietal. These restauranteurs know their craft! The kitchen is simply a miracle. How does this chef keep turning out perfection, year after year, every night!? Started with lobster gnocchi. Little house made clouds combined with lobster in a buttery sauce, yum! Next we had Parsnip soup. Full of delicious parsnip flavor made even more flavorful with the addition of Parmesan and thick salty pieces of crisp bacon. Shared a warm spinach salad. This was dressed perfectly and completed with walnuts and more salty bacon-yum! The filet was seared and perfectly cooked, resulting in melt in your mouth perfection. The au jus was superb and perfect for the puréed potatoes. We also had the "Porcini dusted" chicken with risotto. Is there any better chicken dish in North America? I doubt it! The broiled chicken's crispy salted skin made even more delicious by its mushroom dusting. This skin was covering a deboned piece of juicy chicken breast with bone-in leg attached providing added flavor during cooking. The au jus here is made of the bird's renderings and marries perfectly to the risotto. I could eat this every night for the rest of my life, and I almost never have chicken. Crazy good!! We choose the Caymus Cabernet to drink with our meal. Delicious. Not going to mention the price for fear the proprietor will increase it!!! We skipped dessert, and if you suffered through reading all the above you can understand why. What a meal!!! read more

Bistro daisy is a little off the beaten path but is very good. For starters we had the apple salad and the crawfish terrine special. The apple salad was good but slightly over dressed. I think it was probably necessary in order to avoid the apple flavor from being too sweet and over powering the dish. It was a good combination of flavors when I got the goat cheese and the walnuts in there but definitely left me needing some water. My dad got the crawfish terrine special. It was served cold and was a beautiful combination of crawfish and other goodies. It was very flavorful with a pleasant kick but not too spicy and was served with croutons. For our main courses we got the lamb shank and the duck. The lamb shank was good. It fell off the bone. The greens were very bitter but luckily the onions were there to take away that taste. The sauce was very good. There were only a few gnocchi and they were good but kind of dry. Would have been better if it had soaked in the sauce. The duck was perhaps the best duck my dad has ever had! The meat was fall of the bone tender, the skin was crispy. It was incredibly flavorful. It was served over a mushroom choucroutes and roasted shallots which both absorbed and complemented the sauce. For dessert we ordered the crêpes which were amazing. The banana was caramelized on top. The the crepes were as thin as they are in France and one was peanut butter and one was chocolate allowing you to combine them to make the ratio as you prefer it. Had a great time here. The food was delicious. I would recommend everything we ordered that day with the exception to the dessert. The jumbo lump crab with with beets had a great mix of flavors. The goat cheese ravioli with shrimp was creamy and delicious. The daisy salad was good as well. For entrees we went with the lamb shank and the chicken. Both did not disappoint. Really liked the cauliflower risotto that came with the chicken. Also the gnocchi that came with the lamb shank was amazing. Finally we finished of with the crepe which did not live up to the dishes we had before it. This upscale bistro is a recent find for me. The food generally was very good, the poached oyster starter was terrific and for a main I went with the pan seared drum fish, all very good. My only observation was everything seemed to my taste to be almost too salty, so when I return, I'll be sure to ask the chief to go easy on the salt. Some COVID observations, they really did not check for vaccination proof when we arrived and the whole mask thing here was hit and miss even among the staff. Parking is an issue and we ended up parking a few blocks away in a neighborhood. read more

I began with the Le Rossette cocktail and it was the perfect start. We began with the Daisy Salad, mushroom soup(special), and lobster gnocchi(also a special). All three were delicious. Entrees were Duck, trout with crabmeat and Osso bucco. All were outstanding. For dessert, crème brûlée, pineapple sorbet and lemon tart. Again, all delicious! Judging from how busy it was on a Tuesday night in late August, the word is out about this neighborhood wonderment. I love a New Orleans place that can still deliver the classic cocktails plus other some off-beat concoctions of their own. Wine list is not extensive but well chosen. Needless to say we were all in the mood when it came time for the main courses. I often go for the special--let's see just how creative the chef is--but I paused this night because Drum is not one of my fav fish dishes. Glad I plunged ahead--this Drum was outstanding paired with a slightly grilled potato gratin triangle and highlighted not overwhelmed by a lump crab topping. I would go back again, and again for this dish. Others in my group likewise raved about the tuna-grilled to order, prepared just right. Daisy's is also a place for desert--for no other reason than they serve an excellent Baked Alaska and you don't have to order it a day in advance! Others loved the chocolate ganache crepes. A "new" New Orleans classic on Magazine Street--in a true neighborhood setting (parking is tight). But once you enter service is thoughtful and friendly and vibe is as if you are home with friends. Finally made it to this neighborhood gem after a year of walking or driving by and wondering what's inside. The restaurant is a converted house with a beautiful interior. Feels very New Orleans. I had the lump crab cake and beets as a starter (amazing and filling), and the chicken entree. I mentioned to the waiter that it seems shameful to order chicken at a nice restaurant and he said, "It's the best chicken in the City. Trust me." And he's right. I don't know what kind of voodoo magic is going on in the kitchen, but it's incredibly tender, moist, and flavorful. Great dinner experience.
