Amazing dinner at Minnie and John's last night ! Definitely had the flavor and feel of eating at someone's mom or grandmas for dinner. Chef Chad took great care of us and explained a lot of the thought behind some menu items They had a great drink special of $3 beers and $6 cocktails going on. We tried the wings w a salt and vinegar dry rub n garlic jalapeño ranch which were fried perfectly n crispy n flavorful on their own but the jalapeño ranch was a great compliment The Kala was so good, chef explained he went for a corn max choux savory Kala and they were sooooo tasty with a savory flavor and sweetness from the corn. We got grilled pork chops which were a generous portion and super tasty w a delicious chutney served with them. I also couldn't decide between the fried green tomato blt and the burger so I asked if he'd add the burger to the blt and he did and it was so flavorful and delicious! The sides were all 10/10s for me also, I'm super picky about fries and almost asked to sub them out for something but I'm glad I didn't. They were amazing!!!!! The collard greens, yams, and baked Mac and cheese were soooooooooooooooo good! Only regret is being too full to try dessert but the yams did scratch that itch for something sweet. read more

Service: You're going to walk into this restaurant and feel like you're the most important customer they've ever had. We were greeted before we ever made it through the door by a gentleman dressed very nicely (with a bow tie!). He took us to our table and immediately took our drink order then explained the specials and answered our questions about some of the items on the menu. Service was genuine, friendly, fast and thorough. Food: first and foremost both our meals were delicious! I love the fact that they came out fast and hot. The pork chops (you get two with your order!) were amazing - juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection, the chef made a sweet potato chutney that was out of this world! The Mac and Cheese was flavorful and the ratio of noodles to cheese was perfect (I love the fact that it was baked on top!). If you select a meal that offers the sweet potatoes as a side dish, trust me, you're not going to wanna miss this opportunity for the best sweet potatoes you've ever had. Both the manager and the chef visited with us for a bit, representing the best in southern hospitality. We felt like we were eating at somebody's home as invited guests versus your typical rushed service. We'll be back on our next visit to New Orleans! read more

What a surprise! We randomly selected this spot on a Saturday evening (out of towners) and we were blown away by the hospitality. The drinks....especially the Wolf - was phenomenal. The food....amazing- fried green tomato blt, Mac and cheese, collard greens, catfish sliders, and turkey necks- all amazing. I wish we could have had more but couldn't finish all we ordered. We came here with all intentions to enjoy this location. Walked oak street and came up ready to eat and drink. The drinks on the menu out front way $8 margaritas. When the bartender/ runner was asked about the discrepancy once he said that they were $10 he said, "I don't know what they're talking about, the drinks are $10" which is fine.. we came prepared to pay $10 but why is the marketing and the bar not aligning? We then ordered BBQ and the jalapeño wings and both orders tasted like vinegar.. I was just so confused. We saw the chef use his bare hands to place the bun onto someone's slider after it slid to the side (bacon included) and then the bartender touching the fruit from someone's drink with his fingers.. it was just absolutely too much... not a place that I would revisit or recommend. Minnie and John's is everything that makes New Orleans dining special -- locally owned, Black-owned, and full of heart. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the cocktails are perfectly balanced, and the southern comfort food is absolutely outstanding. I had the kalas and potato salad, and it was incredible -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. My date had the catfish sliders, which were crispy, tender, and bursting with flavor. You can taste the love and pride in every bite. Chef Chad came out to talk with us, and it felt like catching up with an old friend. That kind of genuine hospitality makes all the difference. Make your way over to Oak St because Minnie and John's is a must-visit. Amazing food, amazing people, and a true reflection of the best of New Orleans. Me and my beau have eaten together at Minnie and John' s three times now. In fact, Minnie and John's is "our restaurant " now! I can't remember any place where the staff was so welcoming, and the food was so good. The collard greens alone are worth eating there. Hillary, Chad and the ladies who seem to keep them in check, are so warm and friendly. The place itself is light, airy, comfortable and welcoming. I'm looking forward to our next visit. We drove over to New Orleans for a concert at Southport Music Hall and arrived a little early, so took a walk down a few blocks in search of sustenance and stumbled upon this fine establishment. The manager greeted us before we even hit the door and welcomed us into the restaurant. The ambience and decor were pleasant and the waitress was very friendly, promptly tending to our needs. I would like to mention her by name, but my memory is failing me. We immediately knew that we stopped at the right spot! It was clear by the menu selections that this was no ordinary run-of-the-mill Sysco food and that these dishes were 100% home made. My friend chose the happy hour wing special and I settled on the chicken sandwich. The food quickly arrived and was some of the best chicken wings we both have ever had and the specialized sauce options were absolutely phenomenal. The bacon jam that topped my chicken sandwich was an absolute highlight. I highly recommend the candied yam wings as they were like nothing else I've ever had! I also noticed that the manager was not above wiping tables down or sweeping the floor, which shows pride. The prices were extremely fair for the quality presented. Delicious! And you can tell they put their heart and soul into their recipes and their service. They are extremely attentive, both the owner and our server. The Kala was fresh and hot. A fun way to start a meal. The garlic jalapeño chicken wings were so so good and definitely had a nice spice! The Delores pasta was creamy and my piece of grilled chicken was the biggest piece I've ever seen on a pasta dish. Great portions and prices! The restaurant itself was well decorated.
