Made reservations for dinner for my family and best friends. I am visiting from Florida and this was the most recommended in town. Got there for our reservation and immediately asked about splitting tabs (5/5, not hard), our waitress was very polite about it and was rudely interrupted by what we assume is the owner as this continued to happen thruout our meal. It was very akward and off putting for everyone sitting at the table as we were trying to be discreet about it (our bill was well over $500 at the end and they did not split). Upon asking again they brought us a calculator, the hand drawn map of our table and orders (we sat split as we planned to pay, it was literally down the center so two order sheets would have been easy to do -- I work F&B for a major theme park and have this hourly, not that big of an issue). Our waitress apologized quietly and said she was trying to accommodate and was told to bring us the calculator and to let us figure it out. She walked away and then came back and stated that she was told to come supervise what we were doing. It was extremely off putting. For a table full of veterans (navy, army and Air Force), this was a slap as it seemed like they thought we were going to skip out on the bill or something, we just felt like they were watching us even tho we stated our request in the beginning. For this reason alone we will NEVER be back. My aunt and uncle live here and have been in several times but stated after this they will not be in again. Our friends drove up from Corvallis to eat here as they have done before (after living in Paris this is the closest cuisine around and they come up for special occasions) and are sad to not WANT to come again. I am visiting but I will never be back in future visits. Very very disappointed. As for the food, It was amazing. All of it. We ordered a medium priced Bordeaux that was still $100/bottle. It was perfection. Another complaint around our table was the constant fussing. The staff would barely let us finish a course before clearing the table. About 5 staff were constantly rotating around grabbing and arranging things. We were conversing and would have to pause with all the arms between us. read more

I hate to do this because it will make it impossible for me to get a table in the future. My wife and I have been frequenting this restaurant for the past 5 years. We go for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries out of town guests. We are foodies from New York City but now we live in Portland. This restaurant without a doubt is our favorite restaurant in the Portland area. It's as good as any restaurant I have ever eaten in the world. Although it takes us over an hour to get to McMinnville, it's worth it. The food, the service the ambience feels like you're in a bistro in Paris. The duck, the pork chop, salads, french fries, deserts and wine pairings are to die for. I can't wait to go back! read more

Wonderful selection of French food. Signatures include the pork chop and the mussels. However, our table of 4 was so tiny, there was insufficient space to hold our food. The waitstaff also pushed us to order everything up front, which resulted in us ordering significantly more than we could eat. Stayed in McMinnville for 3 nights while visiting the Willamette Valley. Thank you Yelpers for the recommendation to Bistro Maison! One of the best meals I have ever had - And that is saying a lot for a global traveling foodie like me!! Our staters were the soups the the day - butternut squash soup and salad. Yum Main courses were the special of the day - Salmon and the muscles and frites. Wow. Blew out socks off with the complex layering of flavors and light sauce on the salmon. The muscles were in a beautiful tomato garlic sauce. And the pommes frites were ... better than (some) sex!! They are prepared over 3 days and the love they put into making them showed! We were too stuffed for dessert but given the amazingness of the meal we forged on .... and finished all the carrot cake which was moist and had the perfect balance of flavor and spices. There were about 8 tables around us being served. We waited 15-20 minutes for service or a hello. We're we're never noticed or served. . Once the table next to us left and they were cleaning up the dishes we decided we had been patient enough. We got up and left, again with no comment or notice. The confit de canard was excellent, tender, yet crispy on the outside. Delicious sauce. The steak with peppercorn sauce was also a winner. It was interesting that each entree filled the whole plate. Fries or salad were the side choices included with the meal. The salad was full of many delicious and colorful vegetables and the light dressing perfect. The french onion soup was the best ever, and the escargot full of flavor. The tiny biscuits on the escargot appeared to be phyllo, super happy taste buds! We sat outdoors on the front porch, they provided electric blankets. We bought champagne to go, and they offered us to borrow glasses and return the next day. Wow. Loved every bit of our experience. A really gorgeous restaurant, service and menu! We had truffle fondue, fries and a butter lettuce salad. My husband had the ribeye and peppercorn sauce and loved it. We will go back again and again!! This food was incredible. I went on a date with my wife and she was over the roof about it. The staff paid close attention to us every step of the way. They refilled our wine glasses whenever they were low and were super attentive to when they needed to bring out each of our appetizers and meal. Very knowledgeable as well. We started with the charcuterie board 8.7/10! Great selection of cheese and fruits and amazing dips but i wish the meat was more abundant in selection. Our next appetizer was the king crab cocktail 7.6/10. It was good! The crab was nice but otherwise not a lot of complexity. My wife had the salmon and i had the Pork Chop, wow! Pork Chop was a solid 9.3/10 - absolutely delicious deep rich flavors and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend this for a date night, a special occasion or even just for a nice night out. read more

Phenomenal food and atmosphere! I can't say enough amazing things about this spot. We were driving to Yachats and decided to take the scenic route, which took us through McMinnville. We were in the mood for a delicious lunch and we chose Bistro Maison after looking at several options in the town. We chose correctly! We started with the fondue, which was beyond delicious. Perfectly balanced and came with roasted beets! My mother in law had the Pate, my fiancé had the burger and I enjoyed the ravioli with ricotta and butternut squash. I also had a cup of soup, which was an amazing curried cauliflower with chanterelle mushrooms. The service was impeccable. The restaurant was decorated authentically and extremely clean and cozy. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, suggesting several dishes and their amazing ginger honey milk tea! The check came inside an adorable book and with a bowl of hazelnuts with a nutcracker! I would definitely recommend coming here. This is worth the visit - we are already excited to come back and would honestly consider driving from Seattle just for dinner or lunch! read more

I was blown away this evening after calling Bistro Maison to see if they could possibly be pet friendly and could accommodate me last minute ( I had just made a 7 hour drive day heading back to Canada). Deborah advised me that the restaurant was fully booked but that I was more than welcome to sit at one of their porch tables with my little Aussie. When I arrived they sat me right away, brought me a HEATED blanket and just made me feel so cared for. AND...... the food was amazing. We rolled into town 10 deep including 4 kids for a wedding. We asked the hotel concierge for a family friendly recommendation for dinner. She called ahead to the Bistro Maison who claimed they were family friendly. THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE. We arrived and received suspicious glances from other patrons on the patio. Our waitress was great and accommodating, but halfway through the meal some random staff member we had never met before told us that patrons were complaining about my 2 year old's brief yelping and asked us to take our dinner in a private room upstairs. Granted we had parents and grandparents at the table, but none of us thought there was anything out of the ordinary. My wife and I just decided to take our two kids and leave. Basically the meal dissolved at that point. My brother and his two kids as well as my parents asked for the check and their meals to go. The waitress was reportedly apologetic. I thought to myself that this is truly a stereotypical French restaurant that is unwelcome to children. Then my wife reminded me that in France they would merely tell you that they weren't kid friendly in advance and none of this would have ever happened. My father said that this was the worst meal he had ever paid for such a price. Honestly I had the scallops from my to-go container back at the hotel and thought they were pretty good. My mother is vegan and asked for beets but they strangely stuck her with cabbage instead. My father dubbed his salad "inadequate." Overall, I'd probably skip this place if you're in town, but I definitely wouldn't get anywhere near it if you have anyone under 12 in your party. read more

Now for the less positive reviews, which I needed to read to understand why this restaurant is not rated a solid 5 stars. First, I would not bring my children here. While there are accommodations for young patrons (crayons, separate dining areas, etc.), the experience would be wasted on them. Second, chill. If you want fast service, there are many other choices in town. We spent a leisurely 2 hours sipping wine, dipping into fondue, savoring a fresh berry crisp and never felt hurried. When our check finally arrived, it was in the company of a substantial tin of hazelnuts and two nut crackers. Bistro Maison makes us say joie de vivre. read more

My wife and I decided to give this a try on Christmas Eve thinking it would be a fun, romantic way to spend the evening. We were sorely disappointed. It was very loud with music pumped in a far too loud a volume and tables crammed as tightly as possible. Nothing intimate or romantic about it. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about, especially at the $70 per person price for the evening. My cassoulete was ok though very salty and my wife's seared duck was sloppily delivered in a pool of orange cognac spilling over the edge of the plate. It was $16 for crown, which was WAY overpriced, especially since he wanted to Pendleton and they didn't have it. There was a bit of a glitch when I had ordered the hanger steak medium well and the owner had suggested/pushed (3-4 times intently), to order the filet mignon due to the lack of fat in a hanger steak. I went against what I wanted and specifically went here to try, and ordered the fillet special, but it just wasn't tender so I was brought the hanger steak. So good. I'd say the only improvement would be, when something like that happens that someone is Eating their meal a good 15-minutes (it took that long to get the attention of our waiter) to just add a little mashed potatoes or starch/rice to eat with the meat vs delivering it as a stand alone. I hate to give this 2 starts but for the price tag it did not hit the mark. Had an aperol spritz- came flat, with too much aperol not enough Bubbly or lime. Second one was better but they use champagne instead of Prosecco and it just doesn't balance well. They have an extensive wine list. The truffle/morel/black trumpet and creamy cheese appetizer served with crostini like toasted mini baguette was the best thing of the night. And a ton of it! The mussels were fine and again a lot of them. Looked more like two portions to me. Cooked ok but had one that was definitely rotted and had not opened all the way- stopped eating them then as I was worried the broth could have been contaminated, but I'm ok today :-) the French fries were fantastic though- dark golden and crispy and again a lot of them. The scallops were cooked ok- not overdone, but not really seared well, but the real issue we had was the tarragon beurre blanc. The tarragon was soooo strong the beurre blanc was green and had an almost medicinal flavor and totally overwhelming the scallops. Even the mashed potatoes was heavily flavored with tarragon. Disappointing. Good service, quaint ambiance, but expensive and mediocre food experience. (If I come again I would try the burger and fries!- they say they grind their own steak for it! read more

This place is heaven. McMinnville is a little gem of a town, right at the heart of Oregon's wine country. It's tiny (I call it McMiniville) and quite quaint and chic. Bistro Maison sits at the heart of this casually cheerful glow. A storybook little house, bright and cozy, ornate bordering on tacky, but charming nonetheless. The atmosphere is fantastic, the space is in keep with the name - warm and welcoming, with a calculated excess of decorative flourish that doesn't take away from the home like overall feeling. Everything is infused with obvious passion and pride of the people who own the place, the food, the service, the space. The food is glorious. The home made, perfectly balanced charcuterie, including two sorts of delicious pate, rillette and two of saucissons garnished with cornichons and onion preserves is opulent. Three beautifully crafted cheeses complete the feast. We shared the fondue, which was good, very rich, smoky with a primary Gruyere flavor. We also had the ultimately decadent oysters with Pernod butter, parsley and dill, topped with a ball of fluffy mille-feuille. The French onion soup is a must. I must confess I didn't expect to have such delicious Confit de Canard. Even the fries are special in their own way. The Coq au Vin is to die for, and even the pork chop is wonderful. Be warned, the wine list is distinctly overpriced, especially for being right in the middle of the wine country, but nothing is perfect. I have to make a special note about how careful and accommodating the owner was with all our requests. We felt pampered, and they went out of their way several times to make sure we were happy with the food, They are so caring and obviously so invested in your experience that it actually feels like being in a dear friend's home. The desserts are fabulous. I would definitely recommend the perfect profiteroles and the chocolate mousse is positively sensual. We had a most excellent Ice Wine with our desserts and it's worth trying. My absolutely heartfelt compliments to Chef Jean-Jacques! All in all, it feels unreal. Deep in the countryside of Oregon, yet one of the best dining experiences you can hope for. We will certainly come back! read more

Dog Friendly Patio - this is my review in Bring Fido: The food was excellent including a special tart tatin with poached pear, bacon, carmelized onion and blue cheese; mussels in cream and Pernod; nut crusted pork chop and French onion soup. The service was superb. The best part was how accommodating they were with our dog. How accommodating could they be? They brought out a bucket of water and a small blanket/rug for him. The service was impeccable. The specials on the menu were carefully explained - including any changes to what had been printed - which only made ordering more difficult with the fine selection of regular menu items. Each dish was served at the ideal temperature (cold or hot) after being expertly prepared. Would we return again? Yes, even if we didn't have our dog with us! read more

I treasure every meal we've ever enjoyed at Bistro Maison! By far, one of my most favorite restaurants in Oregon, and anywhere for that matter. I highly recommend starting off with the house made gluten-free, dairy-free, soup du jour. Last week it involved creamy puréed sweet potatoes, chestnuts, and earthy mushrooms. And then the salads, oh the salads, you'd swear the greens were picked fresh that morning, and they likely are! Tossed with warmed bacon, local fruits, fresh goat cheese, and toasted hazelnuts, you could not get more local food love into a dish!! And don't get me started on the entrees! Best chinook salmon I've ever had in my life! And last weekend we had the most tender hanger steaks in a shallot & Pinot reduction, after which we were left guessing on the methods he used to prepare it so perfectly. We've also spent a wee bit of time trying to figure out what kind of magic goes into those amazing NY ground sirloin steak sandwiches (aka burgers), yet another highly recommended dish often offered as a lunch special. Followed up with divine desserts, coffee, and fresh cracked walnuts. Then on each drive home I plot how I am going to try to recreate the meal, for which I am not nearly as successful, but alas inspired. Thank you for another divine & enchanting meal last weekend!
