Went to Bites for the first time this last weekend and had a great experience. Would highly recommend getting a reservation since the place seemed busy. Overall, the food was creative and tasty. The service was decent but our food did come out staggered so it was hard to enjoy it all as a group. Some people were almost done by the time the last entrees came out. That's my only complaint. Went here for restaurant week 2022. For $25 lunch, it was definitely worth our money. My partner and I got a plethora of food. Portions itself were huge and we couldn't finish our entrees so we took it for takeout. As for actual tastes, the shrimp shumai was decent. Spicy crab Rangoon was different while the gyoza was ok. As for the entrees, the duck ramen was different and good for the portion. The sandwich and fries were good and filling too. For dessert, I would have to say the yuzu blueberry cheese cake was the star of the show! Definitely tangy but not too sweet. The banana wontons were decent, but I feel like it was anything special about it. We also go Thai tea and taro tea with boba. It was ok. Let's just say I'm a loyal customer now. Since my first visit I've maybe tried bites 10x so far and each time it doesn't disappoint. They accept reservations but also take walk ins. Keep in mind that there may be longer wait times on the weekend. They have paid street parking which is good and I've always been able to score a park right out front. Now for the food. My all time favorite and must have every time I come see the Spicy Crab Rangoon. Omg every bite and morsel is tantalizing to your taste buds. The berry mojito is sooooo good and refreshing. Our bartender made us lemon drop shooters that tasted really yummy. I've had just about everything on their menu and have never once had any disappointments or complaints. So far I've tried the Crying Tiger, Coconut Shrimp, Soft Shell Crab sliders, Jumbo Shrimp Shumai, Garlic Edamame, Chicken fried rice, Bites Burger (Burger on another level sheesh), Steak Frites, Mongolian Beef (let me salivate over the memory of this amazing dish), Maki (don't remember which kind) and last but certainly not least the yummy Blueberry Cheesecake. It's amazing. The host, servers and bartenders are always smiling and happy to serve. Any questions you may have about the menu they have no problem with assisting their customers. Most of the food is solid and the portions are definitely enough to fill you up. I think my favorite was the bite me maki roll. Ramen was fine but I didn't like all the ginger in it. Broth was creamy though. Their fries are great. The burger was delicious. I love a brioche bun. Stumbled upon this cute Asian restaurant after walking from a Cubs game. Came at a great time because it was happy hour, so my friend and I split 4 cocktails. Our favorite was the coconut margarita. If you like fruity/sweet drinks this place is the spot ! For an appetizer we split the steak au poivre which was really good. It came with a really great tasting sauce that we dipped the fries in. The mushrooms on it were also super good. For my entree I got the teriyaki salmon, but instead of rice I got the salad that the seared tuna comes with. Definitely recommend that if you're cutting back on carbs or want something a bit lighter. My friend got the sesame chicken which was one of their most popular dishes. You can tell they bread the chicken themselves and give you the perfect amount of sauce instead of just dunking them in like most places. Listen, I can eat sushi everyday of my life if money wasn't a factor, so for me to pick Pad Thai over sushi, when the sushi looks so bomb!, is an invitation for anyone to ask after my mental health. With that said, the Pad Thai was so good, it trampled all over my buyer's remorse. I will come back to try their sushi but I'll say it louder for the people in the back - GET THE PAD THAI. Upon entering the atmosphere was very welcoming, as was the staff. We ordered several small bites plates (four to be exact) and it was enough to fill us up. There wasn't an item we didn't like, we just wish the serving size was an even number on more dishes, so that we weren't fighting over the last bites. I was so happy to try this place, walking in to such a cool vibe was an incredible way to start the dining experience out. Cute spot to hang out with a few friends and have an affordable reunion over little and big bites. Made an 8:30 reservation, seated right away. Server Reegon was fun and sassy. The menu is expansive from front to back. What felt like food and cocktails continuously coming out, total came out to about $55 per person before tip. From maki rolls to ramen (too hot out now), bao, rolls, noodles, and bigger plates, there's really something for everyone. Reegon was always masked, and my friend politely asked if we should keep our masks on when he was at the table, he said unnecessary. Tuna Tostada - a ring stacked tuna composition (diced ahi, avocado, sliced radish, scallion, baby arugula, chili-ponzu, and black sesame), good for sharing about 3 people. Tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. Emerald Gyoza, pan fried edamame and mixed veggie dumplings with a very tasty dipping sauce of whiskey soy and wasabi aioli. Delicate taste with a kickin' 'how you doing!?) sauce. I tried a mom's BBQ pork bao (cucumber, pickled daikon, scallion, cilantro, and sweet soy). The bun itself was a bit firm for my liking, but the pork and ingredients were a nice flavor, not salty, but just right. We ordered probably way too much sushi, our table was full! I had the hamachi roll ( a bit dry) and the eel roll (much tastier and light). If not for my severe spicy pepper allergy I would have stuffed my face with the other rolls my friends chose. The Matchalitas were presented in mini inflatable flamingos. Cute. Be careful removing them, they are glass, and that condensation might make you take them out a bit rough, causing spillage. These are strong, no joke. I didn't personally taste any matcha flavor, but it was effective alcohol-wise. The second drink was very tasty, and better crafted, but I forgot to take a photo of it. BITES has great bang for your buck. We went during happy hour. The lychee sangria is some of the best sangria I've had and it was only four dollars. Use your Yelp check in to get the emerald gyoza (or edamame if you prefer) for free. The wings and shumai were 5 dollar each for happy hour. Definitely recommend the wings! My favorite was the soft shell crab slider by far!! Wow. It was the perfect amount of crunch and for only being 9 dollars, what a deal. Good portion size too. Maybe Skip on the duck fat yakisoba. Love this place. I probably could eat here once a week. This Asian fusion restaurant on the border of Lakeview and Wrigley has something of everything. My friends said that the marg was one of the best they've had and I really enjoyed my boba. We started with the Taro Fries (photo included) and then two of us split the Lava sushi roll, which honestly was the largest sushi roll I've ever seen and probably could have been adequate food but oh no we also ordered the Chicken Katsudon which was also fabulous. Our friend also ordered the Gluten Free Pad Thai and she enjoyed it. Overall vibes 12/10. I was presently surprised by BITES! Finding a place for early dinner/late lunch on a Sunday in the city provided a difficult car ride, jumping from place to place and always finding a line. Bites was down the block from a restaurant that my family picked out, but as we were walking by, we saw the 1/2 priced sushi deal and figured this would work for us. My sister had an interesting run in with a worker their, who spoke very little english and called her "sir" which she didn't appreciate. With that, I figured she'd be hard to please. She took issue with her ginger ale as well, which I took instead and found quite normal. First, the sushi- Huge. The rolls were unique combinations with giant portions, almost that my family of big eaters were going to leave some on the plate until I swooped in! Ramen- So so spicy and really good. A huge bowl with delicious pork and flavorful tonkatsu. Didn't like the mushroom type in it, but otherwise, perfect. Burger- My dad is a picky eater, but he enjoyed the spicy burger with french fries. read more

We ordered take-out via their online website so we could bypass heavy third party fees to support local business so please consider this if you're ordering from here (or other local small businesses). As far as the food goes, Perhaps I ordered the wrong menu items, but I was just not feeling the shumai, wings (spicy tsao sauce), or taro fries. The shumai was pretty bland, and cold. The wings were spicy and the sauce was good. They'd probably taste better if they were hot and not soggy. The taro fries were very crispy and definitely unique compared to the typical potato fries! Interesting flavor, but I personally prefer potato fries. My bf compared it to "McDonald's fries" minus the saltiness because they were so crispy (these are probably way healthier and better for you than McDonald's! Just trying to give you a comparison). Aside from the food, my experience with the curbside pick up was not great either (Clark street is very busy and there were a lot of delivery drivers picking up food from various restaurants nearby including this one. Luckily, we got a spot up front!). We arrived at the restaurant a bit early and our food wasn't ready (totally fine!). We called the restaurant and they indicated it would be about 15 minutes (actually took about another 35 minutes, which I didn't mind because restaurants get busy on a Friday!). The thing I didn't understand was when our food was ready each dish turned out to be cold (I was expecting it to be piping hot at this point because it should be fresh out the kitchen. When you put together Asian cuisine and serve it in small portions, you get "Bites". It was mid afternoon, we were in the neighborhood and decided for a late lunch/early diner. The menu is a bit overwhelming at first, with so many choices, but that's what's good about it; you are here to try different dishes in small portions, "Small Bites" (tapas style) or share "Big Bites" (normal portions). They have: rice and noodle entrees, ramen bowls, maki rolls and sandwiches, burgers and tacos. With an Asian flare, of course. They also offer a "Lunch Menu"  until 3:00 PM, and the waitress let us know that we had 15 minutes to order from there. We ordered one of the lunch dishes, Soft shell Crab Sliders, a Philly Maki Roll and two Bun Roast Duck; all were good enough to order again or recommend to friends. The portions were a good value and even though we had more than enough food, we decided to go for dessert; just to get the full experience; or so I told myself. What do you get when you combine mid-western flavors and asian ingredients? You get Bites, a new and exciting flavorful fusion that tastes great! It would be easy to pass by the location, but, make sure that you don't. The outside is deceiving, inside there are lots of seats in the dining area and the decor is colorful with a tropical flare. Our waitress was kind enough to explain the menu to us and answered all of our questions with patience and great detail. The menu is broken down by different sections, but the most important are the small bites, big bites (enough for 2 to share) and the handheld bites. Other choices are the ramen/bao, sushi, last bites (dessert) and of course many different drinks. We had one of the lunch specials, Singapore noodles (rice noodles, sliced onion, carrot, yellow curry stir-fry, and your choice of chinese bbq pork or tofu), Philly Maki (fresh salmon, cream cheese and avocado), Soft shell crab sliders, and Bun Roast Duck. For dessert we had Cookie dough chopstix and Blueberry yuzu cheesecake. We loved everything that we ate, my favorites were the Soft shell crab sliders, the Singapore noodles and the Blueberry yuzu cheesecake. The lunch specials are a bargain and the portions are large. They also include a spring roll and miso soup. You can order a couple of small bites in order to sample different dishes, split a couple of the large bites, or get a handheld bite for yourself. No matter what you choose, I recommend several visits here and you will be able to order something different each time you do. We liked it so much that we are already planning on returning soon. read more

I LOVED this place! Came in on a Sunday for dinner and were served right away. They have an expansive menu and there are so many things that I want to try at future visits! Their special on Sundays is 50% sushi, which is quite literally a steal. I ordered the Soft Shell Crab Tempura roll and Bites Spicy Tuna and my counterpart ordered the Bite Me. We also got an order of the Taro Fries for free with our Yelp check-in. The sushi was all so delicious and the rolls were generously sized. The taro fries were fantastic and the dipping sauce elevated it even more. If you're unfamiliar with taro, it is a root vegetable (consistency is similar to a potato) and they cut long, thin strips for the taro fries and fry and salt them. A great appetizer that we would have considered without the check-in offer. I'm glad I finally got to try Bites and I can't wait for my future visits! read more

A very welcome edition to Lake View! Bites has quite a variety of food and drink options, from creative small bites and sushi, to craft beer and cocktails. Everything was delicious, and made to order. I was most impressed by the tuna tostada. The blend of flavor is incredible, and the chili aioli that binds everything together fills in every crack in flavor. Yum! While the sushi was unique and flavorful, mine did have a tendency to fall apart. Also, food items came out quite a bit staggered, which made dining for two a little creative. All in all, a great new spot i'm looking forward to trying more meals at. read more

Given our current world with COVID-19 getting out of hand in Chicago and so many local businesses closing down or constantly being forced to adjust their operations due to regulations or costs, we are very thankful for businesses still working hard to make a restaurant experience enjoyable for its patrons. Last night, my friend and I came here since we couldn't find any Asian restaurants in our area offering outdoor dine-in (with COVID and the cold being the main factors), but this place is right in our neighborhood and delivered tremendously to our needs! Tan, our waiter was on the quieter side, but friendly and provided us with great service. We were greeted when we walked in and he ended up being our server. We ordered a bao (bun), an Emerald Gyoza (which is free with a check-in on Yelp if it's your first time - at least during the time of this review... December 2020), a duck ramen bowl, and a general tsao chicken entree plate. Everything was amazing - literally. We come from California where bomb Asian food is not hard to find, and we were worried that being in Chicago would mean finding something that meets our needs would be a lot harder. While, it might be true, we are fortunate that this place was the first place we tried, and were very satisfied after our meal. The overall theme is tropical inside and out, and they do nice touches all around to make the dining experience relaxing and causal. While they do not have beer on draft, they do offer cocktails, bottled beer, wine, sangria, etc. They have a stellar happy hour (which we did partake in since it wasn't HH), and we're definitely looking forward on coming back to try that. In times like these, it's very important to continue patronizing your local restaurants when the pandemic continues to force businesses to shut down or run differently. Wish they included more bread and that there were actual mussels and not little pieces of them, but the cream is so good! Enough where I wanted to take it home lol I also got the five spice duck ramen. I thought it was solid ~ there was a lot of meat, a lots of toppings and it wasn't too spicy! I did though ask for a mild spice level and it was perfect for me. I also got the soft shell crab sliders, which were really good and I highly recommend as well! Service was fantastic. Came with a friend and we both enjoyed our meal! I had the Hot Chef roll and the Philly roll; both were great. The Hot Chef wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be but it was still flavorful and tasty. The Philly roll was simple and great. I don't get sushi often and the Hot Chef roll being 10 pieces and the Phillies roll being 6, I was full! My friend also really liked her General Two's chicken and raved about it for the rest of the night. The reason I took off a star was because of the waiting. I understand places are understaffed right now but waiting 20 minutes just to get the menu just made me more hungry looking at al the options on the menu. Small cute place. The food was amazing and affordable. The crying tiger steak was tender and flavorful. The spicy crab Rangoon was so good. It was freezing out and the city has limitations on eating inside so I ordered the Ramen to stay warm. It was really good and I had to take 1/2 home because I was that full... the best part is the staff. Very disappointing place. They failed to make my pickup order, which forced me to wait an extra 30 minutes with my sleeping kid in the car. Not only did they make an error, but they tried to pretend the order was about to come out and was in the process of being made. Of course, that is ridiculous since it took another 30 minutes and I could watch them pick up the ticket from the ground. Obviously they just missed the order. It also wasn't an issue of being overwhelmed due to low staffing. There was plenty of staff. I wouldn't eat here again. I understand errors occur, but I can't stand being gaslit by the people who made the error. The food was good. read more

After a few days in Chicago, my family and I stopped by this place craving some asian-fare food before heading home. We stumbled on BITES since they had a menu that pretty much covers all the bases: sushi, noodles, rice dishes, and even asian takes on sandwiches. Prices here are more affordable than other restaurants you'll find in the city -- cocktails are around $10-12 and ramen is around $12-13 -- so this place won't break your bank before you head down to the loop or attend a Cubs game. The maki roll I ordered was one of their signature rolls called "Hot Chef", which was their take on a spicy tuna roll with crunch, avocado, jalapeño, and some umagi sauce. The menu made it sound like it would be a rather spicy roll, but I found the burn to be lacking and the taste to be overpowered by the umagi sauce. The presentation was so nicely presented along with the other dishes we ordered, but the wait it took to get the food was rather long. Overall, I would recommend this joint for a cute and casual date or for an affordable bite for those craving Asian food but cannot decide on a particular cuisine. read more

This place is a gem! My siblings and I had dinner here and had an incredible experience. Absolutely every dish was amazing. My favorite apps were the crab Rangoon and emerald gyoza. The tuna tostada was also good and was large enough of a portion for 5 people to share. The wings were crispy and delicious, not boingy or fatty at all. We also ordered the Bite Me roll, lava roll and Rama noodles. All were amazing. Only suggestion was that in the Rama noodles the broccoli and chicken were separate on the plate. The broccoli was tasteless and bland and the chicken was a bit over cooked but the noodles were YUM. Beers were great, service was perfect. I'm just mad I haven't discovered it sooner. This place was incredible. The atmosphere was fun and full of Instagram worthy spots. The staff was attentive and friendly. Their outdoor patio in the back was perfect for a summer day and decorated with foliage. Their cocktails are divine! I recommend trying more than one!
