I liked it when I came here for a birthday dinner. The vibe is relaxed but fun - hip but not taking itself too seriously! Our waitress was super nice, and she even put the birthday dessert on the house. I liked the sushi my friend and I split. However, the shrimp cakes needed a lot more flavor and didn't do much for me (nor for my friend who tried them). Even so, the cocktails were inventive and delicious! I'd definitely return again. I love how cute this place is set up but to be completely honest, the food is very average/very hit or miss. I've been here twice, the first time I ordered a couple rolls that were below average. This time I ordered the fresco maki which I actually must say was really good! This time, we also ordered some noodles and edamame which were again, very average. I think the menu items are really hit or miss. If you like sushi though, definitely try the fresco maki. Also a little expensive for how average I thought the food was. Appetizer: The only good thing about this place was the crab rangoon. We also got the bites wing and sticky rice. The wings just tasted like cooked chicken. No flavor. The sauce on the side tasted like socks. The "sticky" rice. OmG. No. BITES, stop selling this ASAP. Rice should not come out in a plastic lunch bag. It should not be hard as a rock. My knife couldnt even get through it. It wasn't cooked. Two hard slabs of uncooked rice out of a lunch bag. NO means no. Main Course: I got the tonkatsu ramen. It had zero flavor. None. Mainly pepper. Did they run out of seasoning and just had water. This tasted like a bad version of Top Ramen. The only flavor in it came from the boiled egg in it. It needed Jesus. Went here Friday night. I had been there before and had eaten inside. It was quite enjoyable. Not so enjoyable this visit. Sat in the outdoor patio with another couple. We ordered drinks and appetizers to start the drinks came. That's when the other couple noticed what they deemed to be rats crawling on the canopy above our heads. And that's when it happened!!! A rat flew down from the overhead canopy and landed behind my seat. I screamed and lept out of my chair. Myself and my friend headed for the exit hastily while the men told the manager why we were leaving. He didn't seem surprised! Very friendly staff and an amazing back patio! My wife and I went for a Saturday lunch and started with the classic mimosa and lychee mimosa - both very tasty. For food we just shared a bunch of stuff...crying tiger steak, coconut shrimp, shrimp shumai, then we each got a bao - the bbq pork and avocado tempura. The coconut shrimp and shrimp shumai were definitely the best things we ordered. We both agreed that both baos lacked major flavor and the tiger steak was too tough for our liking. My friend and I were looking for a place to dine since we are both new to the Chicago area. First walking in the ambience is great. We were seated right away. We ordered lychee martinis which were magnificent. I soon after noticed they had seating outside in the back, so we asked to be relocated. Happy hour was between 5:00-6:30 which was a great addition to the restaurant. We tried the garlic edamame which were delicious. The lava sushi was wonderful and we also shared the basil cream mussels which were to die for. The sauce was super delicious. We also shared the squid ink fried rice it has an exquisite taste definitely worth trying if your a person with a versatile palate. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We love this place and we go all the time. Our kids love it too. It's always very busy so reservations recommended. The staff is very friendly (especially Keegan) and they have been very accommodating of our 7 year old's special requests since he's so picky. Outdoor patio is also a hidden gem. Varying from soft shelled sliders, Chinese fried rice, Japanese ramen and maki rolls, there are dishes suitable for everyone. I especially enjoyed the Lava maki roll and soft shelled crab sliders. Absolutely incredible. Super cool tiki bar feel. They did a great job with the theme. We sat on the patio which was pretty big and spaced out. Food is 10 out of 10. Every single thing we got was incredible. Drinks and service were equally as good. Only thing that was a little off was 50 minute into eating the host came to tell us the next reservation was waiting for our table. Definitely understand it's busy but they should give you 90 minutes especially when your still eating and drinking. Overall though this place is incredible and I highly recommend. Can't go wrong with any food or drink so try them all! read more

We ate here in-person and it was good. We got delivery and it was absolutely awful. I just finished spitting the shrimp shumai into the trash because they were rotten. The pad thai has burnt tofu (pictured) and smells like a pet store. The general tso is in a soup-like liquid resulting in the bread falling off the chicken. I've had my eye on Bites for so long and finally got to try it out. First off, the free taro fries are awesome so be sure to take advantage of this check in offer! Taro is a root, similar to a potato, which are what fries are normally made of- so don't be scared to try them! The sauce is tangy and tasty too. We started off with the asparagus beef rolls, which were on the featured menu. These were an excellent, delicious, and flavorful appetizer. It went well with our cocktails too. I also got the hot summer roll, which was a delicious healthy option. Spicy and fresh- just the way I like my sushi. We also ordered the shrimp shumai to share. This dish was more sweet than wasabi spicy, which was what I was expecting. However, still tasty! After looking through pictures, we also felt the need to try out the cookie dough chopsticks, but this was kind of a let down. Oh well, the meal was otherwise perfect so I can't complain! Service was great, and I will definitely be back for some of the awesome specials that the restaurant has during the week too! read more

This was outstanding! We were exhausted, hot and starving. We walked into a literal oasis! The tofu satay was so good I saved the sauce to dip more food in (never needed it because everything was already flavored so perfectly). They were so kind to my kids and modified the sushi and the ramen for them. The tofu pad Thai was out of this world!! My mom - who is very hard to please- LOVED the Mongolian beef. The chicken wings- the Thai/not spicy ones were may the best things I ever ate and I don't even like wings!!!!! The service was superb! So fast! Every taste like it just came off the grill. We've been here a few times and have always enjoyed our experience. For two people, you definitely do not need more than 5 plates, especially if you get a big plate and/or a sushi. I've had Bites Asian Tapas & Sushi twice now! I dined in and despite a couple missteps liked it enough to order delivery from them this past week. On my first visit, the BF picked here for a dinner out. It actually turned out to be much more romantic than I anticipated as it was a torrential downpour outside and we were seated next to a warm & toasty fireplace. Our server was very nice when we dined in but she forgot one of our items. When we wrapped up our meal, we mentioned it because we didn't want to be charged for the item that didn't come out and she was confused as if we didn't order it and were asking for a free item. It was a strange miscommunication. When I ordered delivery, everything was in my order and right but there were no chopsticks or soy sauce for my sushi. Neither of these things were a big deal, just those little attention to detail items. Fish & Chips is a pretty large portion for $8! Good chunks of tilapia fish deep fried with a panko crust served with taro fries! This comes with a small portion of spicy ketchup and house aioli. This is a complete steal for the price and quite tasty! Now the one thing is they packed this overflowing in my togo bag. Presentation was adorable but it needs some wrap or something over it so that the taro fries don't fall everywhere in the bag. Drunk Chicks is their version of chicken karage. Another big portion for just $6. The night we went, it was a bit overcooked but it was still tasty. I tried some of the meat in the Korean sliders $6 and they tasted on point. Pigs in the Garden is a $5 small plate of lettuce wraps that you self serve & fill up with ground pork - yum! Though categorized as a small plate, it was yet another good sized portion. I've had a few of their sushi rolls and their maki is pretty darn good and at reasonable prices. One of the best things about Bite is you can order half rolls! It makes it so much easier to try more things! I've liked every roll I've had from the veggie rolls like Sweet Potato & Shitake to their Spicy Tuna (it's legit spicy) & the Ocean Sundae (loved this a ton). I've tried their Cookie Dough Chopsticks for dessert because of the cooleyhighharmony name, it was a must get for me. This was a very chocolate-y dish with two wontons completely packed with cocoa filling. Not quite as cookie dough-ish as I had hoped however it was still a fun dish and I enjoyed scarfing it down. There's always room for dessert! I've liked just about everything I've had at Bites Asian Tapas & Sushi. Prices are fabulous, options are fun, and I think most of their errors are just from overlooking things so service needs a bit more attention to detail. I am sure I will be back to Bites though and want to try their relaxing looking patio! read more

Ordered bites thru grubhub...stumbled upon it looking for mussels. The mussel description sounded very appealing so that was in our cart. The fish and chips also caught our eye. Both items were exactly as described. We could taste the varied and complementary flavors. The portion sizes are also pretty decent. The only miss was the bread that accompanied the mussels.
