Bits & Bites is a tiny, takeout only cafe in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. They specialize in scones and flavored Basque and Japanese cheese cakes. These scones are dense and cakey with a firm crust. The actual scone is barely sweet, with most of the flavor coming from a punchy glaze. We tried a Strawberry and a Guava Cream Cheese scone with an Iced Latte. One of the nicest parts of the shopping center is getting to sit by the water so that's where we headed. I enjoyed the Guava Cream Cheese more because of the chucks of cream cheese, but my partner thought the Guava was too tart. The Iced Latte was a dark roast, with a little less milk and more coffee; a good pick me up on a hot day. Overall, worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood, but come early if you want the full selection, by 10 am they were already out of some flavors.
Drove to Hawaii Kai to pick up some scones for a get together. This shop was previously located in Kailua. We arrived at about 9:30 They still had a good selection scones. The owner Jessica recognized my wife and had a friendly chat. I'm not much of a scone eater, My wife loves them. Enjoy
We took a drive to this place to buy scones for friends. She was located in Kailua but now her shop is in Hawaii Kai right across Costco tires and diagnostic lab. Walked in and the staff was very friendly. I told them I wanted 2 boxes of six assorted scones. Was so much to choose from my eyes were big. I even bought some for us. The owner Jessica came out and I was talking to her and she remembered us from Kailua. That was nice. Her scones are very good and delicious.
What a cute cafe in Hawaii Kai! I had a friend visiting from the mainland. I had a lot of places I wanted them to sightsee on the east side. We needed some morning energy and saw that Buts & Bites Cafe was a great local treat in the area. Local and family owned, this cafe was a great hole in the wall find. The owner was so lovely! She explained how she made the treats every morning fresh. I loved her passion for what she does. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend this cafe if you're in the area. Support local!
Bits and Bites Café in the HI Kai Towne Center is known for its wide variety of scones with unique flavors, such as lilikoi, ube, matcha, black sesame, kalamansi, salted caramel, and more. It also offers specialty coffees, teas, and other baked items, such as Japanese and Basque cheesecakes. The owner of Mama' Nita Scones that was established in 2019 and located in Kailua, retired in 2024, and a new owner who had a passion for baking, Jesssica Cai, took over the business. Jessica renamed the business to Bits & Bites Café, and moved to HI Kai with its soft opening on 8/18/24, while offering the same scones and also her own scone creations, hot/cold coffee, tea, cocoa, lilikoi soda, and fresh fruit teas. Her scone creations were highly praised for their quality, texture, and unique flavors. I tried the strawberry and lilikoi scones and enjoyed that real strawberries and lililkoi juice that were used in baking process. While the scones were on the smaller side, you could taste the authenticity of the fruits, the firmness and crunchiness of the outside, and its moistness and dense interior, without being overly sweet. The scones were tasty; however, I found the scones to be pricy at about $6 each. The higher price may be attributed to Jessica's hand-mixing of every scone and the use of high-quality ingredients. Popular flavors sell out quickly. Online ordering the day before or call-in-orders can assure you of specific flavors that you want. Jessica not only bakes everything on premises, but also personally handles the selling of the scones in her shop. She was friendly and enjoyed chatting while sharing her passion of her scones. I had planned to try and order one scone, but her sales talk tried to convince me to buy two scones instead, and which I did. Hours of operation are: Tues to Fri, 7a to 3p; Sat 8a to 4p; Sun 8a to 1p; Mon closed. Located across from Costco and next to Diagnostic Lab in the former Taco Del Mar spot, free parking in the private lot is available that is shared with other businesses. It may be difficult to find parking when Costco is open. The store is clean and small, as it is take-out only. While the scones are flavorful, I am in no hurry to rush back to purchase more due to my perceived value of the scones based on the high costs. I'm happy for Bits & Bites Café for its success over the past 1 1/2 years and wish them continued success for many more years.
SUPPORT LOCAL FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES! Wonderful customer service, quick in and out QUALITY coffee and drinks. I don't even like scones unless it's from England because elsewhere they're dry. Here it's worth coming for. Milk alternates, almond milk my choice.
I love that Bits & Bites has moved to Hawaii Kai. Their previous location in Kailua was out of the way for me. The new shop, across Costco, is everyday convenient. These scones are nice sized. The exterior is firm and crumbles slowly, and most of them have a pretty piped glaze. The inside is moist without being wet. I can enjoy these with a warm or cold beverage - and yes, scones are better enjoyed with a beverage. If you want to give someone a nice morning surprise, Bits & Bites Cafe is open at 7:00am. And they have a box that will hold 4-6 scones. A little something for everyone.
Awesome service. Love that she makes things pure and simple, healthy for her family. Flavors are wonderful! So wonderful that I can never choose just 1 or a few. I always walk out with way too many scones. The drinks are excellent too. My fav is her savory scones.
Stumbled across while heading to Costco. They are directly across the parking lot of Costco. Lots of parking. A very small hole in the mall (wall) haha. Scones were good. Cheese cake was also good. Maybe I'm not a big scone and cheesecake fan but I (and this is just me) thought is was kinda dry. I guess all scones are generally dry. My coffee drink was amazing tho. I finished the coffee before I could finish the scones and cheese cake. The service was great. They were very helpful and patient to explain all the flavors they had. Mahalo Bits & Bites Cafe
Scones are probably one of my fave things, so couldn't resist checking this place out. Arrived at around 9:30am on Sunday and some items were already sold out. Started off with an iced Tiramisu latte - yum! We were just going to order a couple of scones but ended up with a box of 6 because we wanted to try so many of them. Ordered lilikoi cream cheese, guava cream cheese, jalapeño cheddar, earl grey, matcha white chocolate and coconut. All of the favors came through for each of them but my faves were the guava cream cheese and coconut. Kiddo's was the earl grey and hubs liked the jalapeño cheddar. The owner was friendly. So many other things we wanted to try like the cheesecake and frozen bites. We'll be back to try more.
This place is a small shop we were directed to almost immediately after arriving in Hawaii! These scones are AWESOME-- great texture and flavor, and boy are they popular! They sell out of some flavors as early as 8am sometimes, so we hauled ourselves here twice as early as possible to get scones of all flavors for everyone! Choc chip is very popular amongst my family. Others we ordered twice/really liked and would get again: banana choc chip, black sesame, ube, blueberry, & lemon. I've also heard the lilikoi is amazing! The service was prompt and all the scones were handled carefully so we could tell everything apart when we got back. I do think it's a steep price: $5.95/scone is a lot, but it IS hawaii, so I can't be too surprised
The first time we had the basque cheesecake (guava), I split one with my husband, who's not much of a sweets person. He ate his half and was just staring at my half that I hadn't eaten yet. "Was it ok?" I asked. "Might have been the best cheesecake I've ever had," he grumbled. Welp, now we're back for more. All loaded up, and we are NOT sharing The ube cheesecake is soooo good (maybe call ahead for availability)...that crusty top is incredible. The owner is super nice!! They also make great japanese-style cheesecake and scones (calamansi and "abomination" Halloween scone freebie in the pic). This spot will definitely be in our treat rotation!
The owner is so sweet and took the time to tell us about her business! Everything is handmade and organic which I really appreciate, which is why you know it is fresh. She really makes it a point to use good ingredients in the process of creating her pastries and you can really tell when you try them. The scones were one of the best I've had. The Kona Coffee one in particular was delicious and somehow I was able to get the last one. Perfect ratio of crunch and softness. The lilikoi soda was amazing and is one of her highlight drinks from her shop. This was super refreshing and I loved it. The puree she uses is fresh from the fruit. The cheesecake was also a winner. Definitely a must-visit place if you are ever in the area in Hawaii Kai.

Moved to Hawaii Kai, right across from Costco and next to Diagnostic Labs. So, lots of parking, unless you're coming during peak Costco hours. But, if coming when they first open at 7, you'll have your choice of spaces. And now, a reason to come out this way to do an early morning blood draw and then reward my fasting About a dozen scones on their menu, with some not-so-common flavors, that it was hard to choose just 1-2. So, got a box, which fits 6, and still hard to choose. Went with blueberry (to taste test it against other places), lemon cream cheese, lilikoi cream cheese, sun-dried tomato & mozzarella, black sesame, and red velvet. Scones are crisp on the outside and perfectly moist in the inside, with some being slightly drier than others. If you like a traditional dry throughout crumbly scone, this would not be it. However, if you're just going on flavors, these scones are on point. I loved the savory tomato mozzarella and the black sesame, which really came through. A few things of note...the scones with cream cheese are 1/2 cream cheese on top. I would've liked cream cheese cut throughout for every bite, but had to settle on 1/2 my scone without or small bites from each side. Also, even though a good size, scones are pricey, close to $6 each. All in all, happy to see Bits & Bites on this side of the island. Will be back to settle my scone craving. read more

Scones in Kailua, O'ahu, Hawaii... Japanese style scones are different from the norm as Rod U. described in his review. They are moist, have a light glaze on the top, and are not too sweet. I was lucky to find metered street parking right in front of the shop. Jessica, the knowledgeable, helpful owner, was very efficient and competent. I told her, "One of each" because I couldn't decide. I got two "bits" (smaller sized scones). I liked the Liliko'i Cream Cheese more than the Guava Cream Cheese because the flavor was stronger and tart. The flavors of six "bites" (regular sized scones) were: matcha, ube, coconut, Peppermint Bark, Liliko'i, and blueberry. My favorite was the blueberry because of the fresh fruits in it. This is a small, local shop that I'm happy to support. I will call and order 24 hours in advance for the seasonal flavors such as pumpkin. Remember that Jessica will be on a well deserved vacation from 12/21/22 to 1/6/23. read more

Ordered an iced tiramisu latte and an assortment of scones. I would say this is the best scone on island. Soft, tender, moist, flavorful. They have savory and sweet scones in an array of creative and classic flavors. The iced tiramisu latte was extraordinary!! So unique and the cheese foam on top was exceptional. If you are in Hawaii Kai, you have to stop by and give this place a visit. Service was really friendly. We didn't feel rushed to make our choices even though my friend and I took a while to decide. It was very difficult not to order everything on display.... They also have Japanese and basque cheesecake so we will definitely be back to try them :) read more

Stopped by this cute shop from seeing reviews on yelp and Google! Walked in and shop has small seating area with tables and chairs and menu posted on wall for good and drinks. You can tell scones are fresh and was acknowledged right away when we walked in. Definitely has the small Cafe vibes about it and now on to flavor... We picked up a 6 pack of scones that came out to just about $35 total. 1- Guava Cream cheese 2- Rainbow 3- coconut 4- Blueberry 5- Cinnamon Banana 6- Lilikoi Now I love sweet, but not on my pastires and I was hesitant about buying the lilikoi and guava but was reassured it wasn't as sweet as I thought. sure enough it wasn't Smooth flavors throughout the scones, nice icing on top. Outside texture of scones are consistent and once you get inside its soft, moist and flavorful. We will come back to this cute little shop soon! Found this cute little bakery in Kailua. Came a little late, so mostly everything sold out. We did get day old Scones, at a discounted price, which were still very delicious. So I figured next time wake up early and beat the mob. I can imagine how yummy they would be then. See you soon read more
Great little find! I found Bits & Bites Cafe on Yelp and so glad we were able to pay them a visit before leaving beautiful Kailua! Jessica - the owner is a awesome friendly and very informative! She explains all her sconces and makes it all sound delicious and they all are yummy! We got the cream cheese guava and lilikoi- lavender- coconut- guava and lilikoi keeping to as many local flavor selection and we went disappointed! They all had a great crumb and flavor - texture was perfect too! I can't wait to try her other flavors as they all looked so good! Next the blueberry and Ube! Parking is street parking only but at 10 am on a weekday was not a problem! Selection was very good best thing is to do online order as this is a very small business and Jessica does it all single handed! She does the creation - baking - runs the bakery and the business! read more

The best place to buy scones - bar none! Bits & Bites is a cute little hole-in-the-wall located on Kuulei Rd. in Kailua. This is primarily a "grab and go" type of place, as they only have a few tables inside. Parking is available along the curbside in front of the store. They're open Mon. - Sat., 8am - 1pm. Their scones are "bits & bites" of pure happiness! They're baked fresh daily and they have many sweet and savory flavors like lilikoi cream cheese, guava cream cheese, blueberry, chocolate chip, matcha white chocolate, bacon cheddar, spicy sausage with red grilled pepper and more. They also offer organic and gluten-free scones! Their flavors change often so check their website for their latest offerings. My absolute favorites are the cream cheese ones, especially lilikoi and guava, but I've tried other flavors and they're all fluffy, moist and delicious! I love the drizzle on top of the scones. All of the scones range in price from $3.25 - $4.15 per scone. In addition to scones, they also offer cakes and unique drinks such as lilikoi ice tea, iced coffee with cheese foam, orange green jasmine ice tea, and lilikoi soda. I had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Jessica, and she told me how she got started in the business. She's very friendly and I'm happy to support her small business whenever I'm in town. So yummy! My son loved the chocolate chip scone and the homemade sodas. We weren't sure if he would like it and our barista was super helpful in explaining it. He tried it and loved it. My boyfriend and I had iced coffees. He got his with with foam and mine was basic. We enjoyed the coconut scone and the bacon cheddar scone. I personally loved the coconut scone. It's great there are so many scone flavors so everyone can pick the the flavor they like best. The drinks were very refreshing and were a great start to our morning. The shop is little and cute. We're on vacation from LA and if we're in the area while exploring on this trip, will stop by again. read more
This review is only for deliciousness of pastry (blueberry scones) as we were the recipient of a box of scones that was dropped off at our office. This is the first time I've heard of Bits & Bites Cafe, so I was glad to try some. Inside the box there was a wide variety of flavors as the scones were all different colors. I selected a blueberry scone and it was good, not to heavy, not to light, but just right. As far as parking, prices, service, etc I have no idea, but if offered some in the future, I would partake in eating some tasty scones. read more

The British woud say "you Americans are a bit silly aren't you?"; insulting then asking us to agree with them before continuing, "those striped horses are ZEB-ruh not ZEE-bruh. On the subject the letter "Z" is pronounced ZED not ZEE". At least we don't have heated debates on the pressing topic, topping our scones with clotted cream then jam or jam then clotted cream. We've simplified it and Let the baker drizzle sweet glaze atop for us settling the matter. It's how Bits and Bites does it and wow, does it work! Outstanding, if not the very best scones in Hawaii. Note: These are Japanese scones. Lots of baked in organic fruit, very well controlled sweetness, not excessively butter or flakey rather more moist and dense like a banana bread with a firm crust. At the start of the day, still warm, ridiculously aromatic and oh so good! A blueberry scone, amazing. Whole, large blueberries within giving a burst of tartness in the mildly sweet scone. The lilikoi version, outstanding with it's incredible concentrated lilikoi glaze giving a very pleasing, fragrant, sweet sour upfront taste. The coconut, smells of fresh roasted coconut and has a flakier crust as if coconut oil was added to the mix. The list goes on and on. Flavors, including cream cheese filled and savory scones vary daily. Order 24 hours in advance and the friendly owner will bake any flavor on her website. Japanese jiggly cheesecakes and mult layer crepe cakes can also be ordered with 24 hour notice. Prices are in line for a boutique, artisan product, $3.25 - $3.95 per scone. Plenty of metered street parking. A cheery small bakery turning out incredible scones. Perfection. read more

I've never been a huge fan of scones, but the scones from Bits & Bites do agree with my taste buds. Upon my arrival at about 10:30 on a weekday, there weren't any blueberry scones in stock. But they did have the lilikoi, which is another popular item, and for good reason - it's delicious! It was crisp on the outside, but moist and gooey on the inside. Next time I'm going to plan ahead and pre-order to ensure I get the blueberry! p.s. I hear their chocolate chip is another big seller! read more

I dropped something off at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station and thought it would be nice to check out a new bakery in the area. Yelped and found this one so I thought I'd give it a go. Of course I decided to visit that side of the island on one of the days where there was massive rainfall. It was lightly cloudy in town and the first day of the torrential rains on Oahu so had no idea what I was driving into. Thankfully I grew up in Kaneohe so driving in rain is no big deal, just another day on the road. Because of the rain the shop was empty and I had it all to myself. The owner came out and shared all the goodies she had available. She makes them all herself daily - talk about fresh! There was a sign saying she makes gluten free as well so I asked about that. She shared that she makes them in batches of 12 or more when ordered, and if you're someone who wants just a few and lives nearby, that you can leave your phone number. When she has a large order she'll contact you to see if you want a few, and if you do, she'll make a larger batch so you can have your fresh gluten free goodies without buying a dozen! I love blueberry scones so tried one of those, and a lilikoi cream cheese. OMG the likikoi blew my usual blueberry favorite away. Blew. It. Away. It's a good thing I returned to the mainland for a bit. If not I'd be here all the time trying her 'ono fresh baked goodies!!! read more
This place has the most delicious scones ever!! We were going around the windward side and the place popped up on the Yelp app. I was so intrigued, I had to try it. Parking is very limited and its roadside parking only. We were able to get parking right in the front, so hopefully you will be lucky too! The place is such a tiny shop! They do online ordering, so if you can't find parking, just order online and pick it up quick! We decided on: Lilikoi cream cheese scones Lemon cream cheese scones Bacon cheddar and cheese scones. I am not gonna lie, they were all crispy in the outside and fluffy gooey goodness gets you on the inside. Soon yummy!! My kids loved the sweet lilikoi cream cheese scones. I favored the bacon cheddar savory scones. But they honestly were all good! The bite-sized goodness was exactly what I was looking for! If you come down, just try them all. Good luck. Great little scone specialty bakery that's been open for about two years. It is a boutique scone shop that offers a nice variety of handmade scones and related items. Their scones are flavorful and moist with all natural (as well as organic) ingredients. I would definitely recommend ordering online and scheduling a pickup, especially during this Covid19 situation. If you must go at the last minute like I did, you can plan to wait awhile and possibly run the chance of not having the items (or any) that you may want. Since they make everything from scratch, it does take some time to get everything ready, especially since they were recently aired on KHON TV2 and are super busy. There really need to be more small shops like this in Kailua to bring back the small town atmosphere that's been slowly fading away with the "big box" stores like Target and Whole Foods. So many small businesses are struggling during this time (or have already closed) and it's encouraging to know that places like this find a way to still bring quality and fight thru these tough times. Been here four times already and definitely will be back again and again and I hope they continue for years to come. read more
I wanted to thank some nurses that had been great to my mom so I bought a couple of half-dozen sampler boxes along with extra orders so we could enjoy some scones ourselves! Ordering online was easy, it said to do it 24 hours in advance. I chose a time the next day, placed my order, and within a few minutes the owner sent an email that they'd see me at that time the next day! Cool! The next morning she called again to check on how I wanted things packaged. The gifts for the nurses were in a nice box with a thank you sticker on them. The shop is small and quaint, and the most wonderful smell when you step in. I got to try the lilikoi, blueberry, and ube scones. All were excellent and very delicious. I also feel like they look beautiful too! These are not the cheapest scones and a bit on the smaller side, but I give 5 stars for the wonderful care that goes into these scones. What a find on our way to North Shore. We were hungry for some bakery items to go, and found this little gem. The strawberry scone was my fav. My son loved the lemon lavender. And my brother loved all the flavors. My nephew liked the matcha one. All the flavors are great. The owner was super helpful and personable Walk to the back area... there are shops there you can peruse to walk off the carbs! read more

Found this gem of a place next to Hawaii Kai Costco tires. The scones and the cheesecake were AMAZING! With tempting flavors like lilikoi, ube, red velvet, lavender... my taste buds were in heaven! Being a local small business, the owner was so kind and attentive to helping me choose the right flavors. The place is very clean and welcoming.
