Because of her, I was able to finally get help with a vision issue and medical condition that three other ophthalmologists had missed or misdiagnosed. She prepared me for my consultation with Dr. Gupta. She was very friendly, professional, and thorough. She asked detailed questions about my eyes, diabetes, and overall health. I read the eye chart with her and completed several vision tests. She also applied the eye drops needed to dilate my pupils. Afterward, I waited only a short time while Dr. Gupta reviewed the results of my examination. Like my appointment last year, Dr. Gupta was exceptionally well prepared, friendly, and professional. She examined my eyes using a modern slit lamp microscope and explained everything clearly in terms that were easy to understand. The office is modern, spotless, and equipped with the latest diagnostic technology, giving me confidence that I'm receiving excellent eye care. They also coordinate my care with my UNC Health primary care physician, Dr. Joseph Williams, which I greatly appreciate. This was my third annual appointment, and I am just as impressed today as I was after my first and second visits.

After Nakagawara left, I was paired up with Dr. Durham and then Dr. Ogden who is really good and thorough! She explains everything and waits around for questions like you're the only patient she has. If she finds something in your eye that doesn't sit well with her, she makes sure she's satisfied it's safe before she sends you on your way. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The front desk, intake and even checkout, all seem happy to see you! Their communication vehicles include not just call in but also texting and email. The texting option works well even with scheduling an appointment. You really can't go wrong trying them out! If you're paired with someone that the personality doesn't fit, ask to see someone else next time. They really do a great job getting you comfortable. Highly recommended!

The waiting room was a mess, there were 10 people at the desk with half of them wearing training tags yet hardly anyone was helpful. When we finally got called back after 30 minutes of waiting, the team member who took us to the exam room immediately said they can't even help us with my daughter's issue. This is after waiting six months to get in here, my optometrist sending notes on my daughter's issue, and no one catching that when initially accepting the referral but instead wasting our time. I immediately demanded a refund of the office visit copay we paid when checking in, and the billing lady at the front desk was confrontational and then went into an office where I'm assuming the office manager was and I could hear the office manager making all sorts of comments yet did not come out and speak with me. They told me insurance requires my daughter to be seen by an ophthalmologist to refer her to another specialist after all. No one knew what they were doing and the ONLY person kind enough to apologize or understand my frustration was the initial team member we met with. They charged us for an hour exam (which was only that long because of how long they took to get us back and all the back and forth; we only met with the doctor for 10 minutes at the most), they were not kind, they were dismissive and rude, made us pay for additional retinal images that my optometrist could have shared with them, and then we had to wait even longer to even see the doctor. Worst doctor's experience of our lives. And after a month of not hearing about her referral, when I called to check the status, both people I talked to were incredibly rude as well, did not apologize, and interrupted me multiple times. I would not recommend this place to anyone; the worst.

Dear Dr. Whittington, I am so sorry to have to say goodbye…read moreto you. I have enjoyed our 12 year patient/doctor relationship, knowing if there was ever any issue with my eyes, I could trust you. Unfortunately, I was so very dissatisfied with the lack of compassion today that I feel that I can no longer be a patient at My Eye Dr. I am also withdrawing my daughter as a patient.  I had tried to schedule my 95 year old wheelchair bound grandmother to see you, but we could not make the dates/times match up. So, when an apt became available for Saturday afternoon at 1:20pm I agree to see a colleague of yours. I assumed we would have similar excellence customer service, but this was not the case. You can imagine my shock, when we arrived 13 minutes late to the appointment (my watch said 12) and we were told that there was only a 10 minute grace period and since we were outside that time we would have to reschedule.  As my grandmother is in a wheelchair, it is quite difficult to transport her, so it was very disappointing to be told that 3 minutes would force us to have to reschedule.  There was unexpected traffic that kept us from turning into the parking lot, which delayed us the additional time, but the front desk associate did not show any understanding or compassion for our situation and did not call a manager to see if anything could be done or even the doctor, just told me that we would have to reschedule. She then showed a general disdain when I informed her that I would be canceling my future appointments well as my daughter's appointment.  Clearly she did not care, nor did the manager when I eventually asked to speak with him, about customer service and good patient relationships. I am very sad to have to lose you as my eye doctor as I trusted you and your company with my eye care and the eye care of those that I love. I expected compassion towards people and situations, but I can not support a business that treats its patients this way.
