I feel like this place has made some improvements since the last time I was there. The star of the show is always the Pazooki. I went with the Biscoff one this time and it was awesome. The coleslaw on my dish looked a little suspect and I just thought it resembled something that was sitting in a dish for a while so I didn't eat it. The sandwich was good. There was a lot going on with prom season

I visited BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in Modesto, CA [3401 Dale Rd] on Sunday, 01/11/26, around 3 PM. I came during Happy Hour, which offered many great deals in the bar area. For $7 each, I ordered the Sliders, Chicken Pot Stickers, and Mozzarella Sticks, as well as the Chips w/ Salsa + Guacamole for $4. Lastly, I got the Deep Dish Steak Nachos for about $23. All of the appetizers tasted great. The food took about 30-40 minutes to come out, so the wait was slightly extended. It was an oversight that the table was missing an order of Avocado Egg Rolls after leaving. I reached out via the Feedback Page on the BJ's website. The manager, Marco, was super helpful in this manner. He replied within 24 hours and offered a courtesy gift card - much appreciation for his quick responsiveness. The person who served me was Ty. He was super friendly and attentive. He made sure that I had everything needed for the table. Overall, the entire experience was good, from the food to the service. I'd return in the future.

Made reservations and still had to wait close to 1 hour. We had a party of 7 and it was very noticeable that 2 out of 7 of us had mobility issues, but still stuffed us in the bar area. The table only sat 6. At one point, one of the other waitress made us move the chair. Not only that...at the beginning, when questioned why we are getting this table and not giving us another "opened" table, she said, "Well, did I get you all in? You are going to have to redo the reservation for that table." Would like another business manager to contact me via messenger. Will be leaving my feedback to Corp. as I now see that many people have had bad experience with this restaurant.

Tastey or WasteY??? This place is a big WASTEY!!!!! We have come to this restaurant a few times. It's always far and in between that we try it, in hopes it changes food quality. It's always a let down. Even the service i. There is no consistency at this place. I would not recommend this place at all. My hot links were burnt to a crisp on the edges and they still gave them to me as if I'm going to eat them and enjoy them. Before they serve the low quality food they need to rethink because the majority of us look to yelp or Google to find out where we want to eat.

This is the second time I have gone to BJ's here in California. The first time the food was phenomenal at this location but that was back in 2024. For this visit, we had a very friendly server who would check in and every once in a while and everything ran smoothly during the ordering process. Me and my fiancé ordered the Brewhouse Bites Sampler which we both thought was amazing. And then we ordered our entrees: I got the Crispy Jalapeño Burger with sweet potato fries, got the burger well done and asked the server if I could get the onions grilled or cooked due to currently being pregnant; which I mentioned. My fiancé got Tri-Tip Medium well with Shrimp Scampi, Asparagus and Rice. While waiting for our food our server was accompanied by another server and she passed along that she'd be switching places with the server due to heading home and we appreciated that; the new girl was friendly as-well. 20-30 minutes pass and we get our food. Right away food looked great. Although, the onions were not cooked, they were raw; I put them to the side. And my fiancé's Tri-Tip was not Medium Well it was tough and well done; my burger was well done. The Shrimp Scampi only had 5 pieces of shrimp. And I tried my sweet potato fries and they were overly salty like someone had poured the whole salt shaker on the fries. My fiancé also tried them and couldn't eat them either, we both tried to take the salt off and they were extremely salty. We left feeling hungry. I'd recommend if any of you go to a Brewhouse and want to get full, go to the Brass Tap. There's an amazing atmosphere there and doesn't feel as cramped as BJ's seating is.

Horrible! BJ's must stand for Big Joke! The service and food is awful! We came in and was told we would have a 50 minute wait. To pass the time while waiting for a table, my party decided to have a drink at the bar. At first I thought the bartenders were friendly and spirited, but my mind was quickly changed. The bartenders started loudly complaining about how busy they are, how there are missing menus, and how backed up they were with making drinks. This was really killing everyone's mood. The drinks were then poorly made. The drinks were entirely mixer. I don't think there was even a drop of liquor in any of the drinks. The margarita flight tasted like juice, the Dubai Chocolate martini tasted like a melted milkshake, and the dirty martini tasted like sink water. This was very disappointing since the cocktails were not cheap. When our table was ready, one member of my party asked the hostess if we could bring our drinks from the bar to the table and carry over the tab - she said yes. Another person asked the bartender if we can carry over the tab and he told us we couldn't and had to close out there. I'm not sure where this miscommunication came from but it definitely seemed like the bartender was just trying to make sure he got his tip (which we reluctantly left). Once we sat at our table, we were left there for over 20 minutes with no server to check on us. The menus and tables were dirty with crumbs and hairs all over. I understand it was super busy, but servers continued to pass by us, noticing we still had our menus out and no food. Eventually one server actually stopped by our table and took our very simple order: Brewhouse Sampler Plate, Jumbo Spaghetti & Meatballs, and 3 glasses of water. We let the server know that we would be sharing these dishes. Typically, drinks are the first thing to come out after placing an order. However, our table received the spaghetti first. We then had another 10-15 minute wait for our sampler plate to come out. The chicken wings were rock solid and cold. The spinach artichoke dip was also cold. The sliders were miserable - incredibly dry and flavorless. No cheese or anything on them, just bread, patty, and a dollop of ketchup. The mozzarella sticks were the only items on the plate that were warm. We were not given any plates for these shared dishes (which is especially concerning considering one was literally an appetizer). We would have tried to flag the waitress down for some plates but she seemed to never walk by. Once we finished the food, we finally got our waters! We opted to pay through the QR code, which was a big mistake. We wanted to get out of there quickly because it was super crowded and noisy. The default tip was auto selected at 20%. The site seemed to have glitched out and submitted payment without allowing us to adjust the tip. It refreshed and the payment went through. This was an incredibly unfortunate experience and I don't recommend anyone giving their business here.

I said I would be back and I had an even better experience!! I didn't realize the reward earnings and was asked for my number to check, which I did have but haven't been at BJs in a while. Our server, Eric C, was fast and efficient!! I barely had to say much but a lot of thank you(s) He treated us special and always checked in and brought everything we needed. If BJs in Tracy won't top the service here I'll be coming back to this location for sure...especially since I checked out the mall close by and loved how lively the area is for a Wednesday afternoon. We were sat at the bar area and I liked how I we had the option for happy hour...I didn't order from it but next time I just might Food was delicious and presented beautifully I really liked the beer menu wall and really want to try beer when I come back...I can't believe I was trying to say I won't be back but BJs and the mall has changed my mind about Modesto

We came here again for some appetizers and drinks while waiting to take pictures with Santa at the mall with family. We were here a few months ago and it was a so-so experience. We thought we would try again and it seemed just as bad or worse this time. We wanted to watch a college football championship game hoping it would be on one of their many tvs. When we sat down at the bar, the 3 big ones over the bar were showing 2 different golf matches. One was not even live and the other was live from Australia. We asked the bartender if we could watch the game after she took our order. She said she wasn't sure since there had been a request from someone to watch hockey and another request before us to watch college football. She said the "manager was trying to figure out what they were going to do" about the requests. We sat there for almost 40 minutes and golf was on the entire time. Another couple had asked after us to watch something and given the same explanation. So, I watched the championship game on my phone at the bar instead. So disappointed in BJ's. How is it that this BJ's has all of these screens and the company promotes to come watch the games yet when people ask to watch certain games they do not accommodate anyone? We were never even given any follow up from anyone about what the "manager" decided what to do. Sounds like an incompetent manager if you ask me. As for the drinks, my wife had a margarita and she said it was good. I had a soda and it was cold. Last time we tried to order avocado rolls and they never came. This time they came and seemed burnt on the ends and were dry. Next time we will go to Buffalo Wild Wings (which is not our favorite) over BJ's. Shame on us for hoping it was going to be better.

Came here during the week. They were pretty busy but we were seated right away. Our server was very polite but we waited quite some time to get our drinks and our food. We waited a long time to get refills and weren't quite helped once our food was served. The food was decent, nothing special. Decent prices. I liked how they had the sports games on their television. The place was pretty clean. Probably wouldnt be my first pick to come back here again.

The service was awesome , we had a large party and the service was good . This was my first time eating there and it was disappointing. I ordered the Parmesan crust chicken. It was very bland , no taste and burnt . It was flatter than a hamburger patty. After I got home i looked at their menu and that was not like my food . The picture was worth a million bucks.

This visit was probably our last visit to BJ's. The hostess told us our favorite server was leaving, yet we saw him for the entirety of our meal. So that was pretty disappointing. He did come say hello and that was nice. However, we would have preferred to have him as our server, as we requested that server, both over the phone and in person. The waitress we first were assigned to got us drinks and then passed us off because she was "going home". Again, we saw her for the entire time we were there. Our second waitress was very sweet, but a little stressed out. We explained it was not her fault. However, the mistakes the kitchen made could have been smoothed over by the manager, in my opinion. She told him what happened, but he never came by the table. He did a cursory glance in our direction. The burger came out uncooked (mostly red/pink) and over salted the first time. With a request to not season it at all the second time, it was burnt and still way, way, way over salted! So, they took it off our bill. At least I could share what I had, so no one left hungry. It was still disappointing, nonetheless. The best part of the meal was my potatoes. The price for the meal is very affordable, in my opinion. There are several dishes to choose from for just $13.00! You receive an entrée with sides, and a personal pizookie. They have it all day Monday through Friday. For the pizooki choices, I think the Oreo cookies and cream one is the best, with the salted caramel as second choice. We have tried almost all of them, and several fall short. The ambiance is fine. It is a wide open floor plan, you can see all around the dining room with one look. There is a back section hidden away. They have a bar with several alcohol selections, and their food menu is pretty vast.

We got the family meal deal a few days ago with pasta, Santa Fe salad, mashed potatoes, crusted chicken, and cookies. The crusted chicken was good, the mashed potatoes was too. However the Alfredo chicken pasta was a little undercooked. And to my disappointment the chocolate chip cookies were clearly burnt and had to be scraped off the tray they baked on. This is the true definition of 3 strikes and you are out. I will NEVER EVER visit this establishment again. The first two times we visited there the service was super slow. The third time and the focus of this review failed from the minute we walked in the building. After being told there would be a 25 minute wait, I noticed multiple employees standing by the front desk not doing anything. Then some customers left. The problem came when they seated another customer of 2 ahead of us...AND WE GOT OUR NAME IN AHEAD OF THEM. When I began to question why they were taken first, we were treated like we did not exist. We were told their table was called first. They told me they are not first come first serve. I was extremely frustrated at how we were treated, their response to me as a customer and their total disregard of me as a customer. I came in with some gift cards and was so upset that I pulled them out of my wallet, slammed them down on the counter, said I don't want their business and walked out. The staff in the Modesto location is always slow and in these times do not seem thankful customers are back in their restaurant. I will make it a personal mission to tell people do not waist your time by going to BJ's Modesto as they do not value you as a paying customer. read more

We came in to get lunch at around 12:40pm on monday July 25th. I came in with my daughter & my husband we did notice it was a little busy. We had our waiter come to the table we ordered drinks & a appetizer right away before ordering our food 30minutes pass by and they bring us our appetizer it was buffalo wings they where so cold I told the waiter nicely she took them back to have them remade. As we are sitting they bring the table behind us some kid appetizers they never once brought my daughter who is 7 a kid appetizer im not sure why she wasn't acknowledged. By the time our wings came out we waited more 9 just sad. I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

Shift manager at Modesto California is BJ's Eli very disrespectful , after i requested to talk to a manager , Eli came up to talk about the the seating and they said they didn't have enough seats but you could clearly see their was not that many people in the restaurant, Eli came off very rude and disrespectful , After my wife came in while speaking with Eli his attitude got worse as my wife is black , After telling him about him self and how rude the staff was that as a disabled army veteran i would not recommend this BJ brewhouse or any other to anyone , Racist tendencies among other things . read more

How does a restaurant not have items on their menu on a Friday afternoon. Tried to order their mini pizzas and the waiter told us they were out. Waiter didn't even offer an alternative. Then after I requested our check I heard our waiter tell the table next to us that he was giving them their pizza half off. The mini pizza is half off during happy hour. Then he did the same thing to another table next to ours with their pizza. I wasn't given the option. read more

So we came here tonight and wow service was awful! No Pepsi no silverware seriously got our food and was finally brought forks and with steaks no knife to eat it and 15 minutes later here comes the knife. The food here is okay, but we had some weird experiences with the beer. I was with 3 other people and we all ordered beer and 3 of them came out kind of warm. We asked if they had any chilled glasses because the beer was getting warm and our server resounded by saying "no we don't, but we get that a lot." ...... like okay, how about you do something about that? The food is decent. We got the avocado egg rolls which were pretty good, and I got the ahi tuna salad and my fiance got the southwest salad which I tried. Both were good and huge portions. Fine place to eat if you are in the area, but don't expect a cold beer anytime soon. read more

BJ's has always been one of my favorite restaurants, and the last visit I had was exceptional. The food was great and the service was amazing. Our server, Kaylie, was extremely attentive and was constantly checking up on our table to make sure we were okay. I never had to ask for a refill, she was on top of it. Waited over an hour for my food! Then was served my food from not my waiter but someone that didn't introduce himself stated they were out of broccoli but can substitute for asparagus which is fine with me but had to wait over an hour to tell me this then I ask about my appetizer the mahi mahi tacos and he goes it's been sitting in the back ok another thing wrong. Worst experience I ever had at BJ's. Our waitress was the worst, took about 10 minutes once we where seated for her to greet us, and was not even busy, it was about 3;20. Brought our drinks, and then waited another 20 minutes for appetizers which was okay but then the pizza came 3 minutes after. She gave us dirty plates and seemed bothers when we asked for another plate. Did not even offer refill on our empty drinks, we had to ask. Then did not even ask how our food was, which my pizza was dry with no sauce just a small amount of cheese. A customer across from us who had her as a waitress as well, was speaking to a manager complaining about her experience. I did not have a chance to ask for a manager because I barely saw our waitress until it was time to leave, at that point I did not want to waste my breath. I would not recommend Modesto BJ's based on this experience. But a few months ago I had great service, maybe just this waitress and chef. So be careful if you choose to spend your money here. read more

Made a reservation for 7:30, I show up on time and the host with blonde and ugly bun tells me she doesn't have a reservation so we were told it was gonna be 10-15 mins. We walked out for 5 mins and came back inside and waited probably 20 mins. I made eye contact with the host MULTIPLE times and I finally got up to ask how much longer. She gave me the ugliest attitude and said she called our name. I told her no she didn't because I was in here most of the time and the fact that she saw me sitting in front of her , she rolled her eyes and said something under her breath. Loved the food there! plus the service was great the server knew her menu and was on point with the orders did everything in a professional manner all the way to the end.I believe Cassandra was are server for the evening if I'm not mistaken. What an absolute damn nightmare. Ordered on App at 5pm, said order would be ready at 640pm. I thought it was so weird to walk up and see so many disgruntled people waiting. I go up and give them my name, and they said sorry , they are an hour and half behind. People were in line waiting for hour and half, after already ordering an hour before. A few years ago, this restaurant was awesome. The food was good, the drinks were good, everything was perfect. As of my visit yesterday, I literally could not even get silverware because they ran out. They told me my table was ready, and when I was escorted to it, it was dirty with used glasses on top of it. Our orders were taken, and 20 minutes later, we were advised that they did not have what one of us ordered. The menu was given to look for something else, but nobody ever came back to take the new order. Meanwhile, everyone else's food was being made. Just an overall bad experience this time around. I'm really sad that this place has gone downhill. I used to love it. Hopefully it was just an off night. At least the staff was friendly. We left without getting any entrées. Hopefully this was just a bad night, but I won't be spending any more money there trying to find out. read more

I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return.

Review: November/December 2023 I recently had the opportunity to try out [BJ's restaurant in Modesto]for dining inside and delivery on another time in the month . While I was impressed with their exceptional service, I must admit that the food quality was inconsistent. With Dining vs Delivery! First and foremost, I would like to highlight the outstanding service I experienced with [BJ's ]. The ambiance was awesome and the service was was prompt and attentive , the staff were friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience, which is truly commendable. However, there were a couple of occasions where I was disappointed with the food that was Delivered to my house. I understand that mistakes happen, it was disheartening to receive dishes that didn't meet the usual high standards of [BJ's ] The flavors were not as vibrant, and the presentation seemed rushed. It felt like the attention to detail was lacking on those particular occasions. My friend and I came to Modesto to go furniture shopping and decided to get a bite to eat. It was crowded so we opted to sit at a booth in the bar. The server took a while to get to us and we thought that it was due to the number of people there. When she tried to explain the appetizer menus we had to ask her to repeat herself several times because we are both hearing impaired. She got an attitude immediately and when we pointed out that we both couldn't hear, her lame explanation was that she was told that she talks too loud. Sorry, ma'am what? We couldn't understand you because of your marble mouthed pronunciation. The service proceeded to go from bad to worse to the point that my friend asked for a few more minutes to decide on what she wanted. We could both tell by the server's attitude and body language that this clearly p*****d her off. Our server decided NOT to put our order in and instead wait until the end of her shift and make it obvious to us that all of her tables were gone AND the tables that came in after us and that ordered after we had ordered had been served. I left a fantastic tip because I did not want the server who took over for her crappy service to bear the brunt of her crappy attitude and terrible customer service skills. I'll be calling the restaurant to make a complaint later today. If this is the way BJ's treats their disabled guests, there are plenty of other places I can spend $100 bucks for lunch and get treated a LOT better. We attended the Cystic fibrosis fund raiser dinner here before the restaurant opened. What an excellent event. The whole place was fantastic from the outside of the building to the interior hardwood floors and flagstone walls & their very nice service staff. They were testing their excellent training program. Their menu is awesome and seemed endless. They have some of the best food I have had in Modesto Period. NY Strip Steak and Baked potato were both huge and done to perfection. My wife and two guests had Shrimp & Ma-hi-Ma-hi Tacos, Grilled Chicken salad, and the Beef pot roast and mashed potatoes there was nothing that would have been less than described as perfect. We were treated to this dinner at no cost for the food... Drinks were separate but it was an opportunity fund raiser for Cystic Fibrosis, BJ's got the training experience of a full house to test their staff. Wow I was impressed... They trained very well and their staff is already up and running. I met and spoke with the general manager and assistant general manager. BJ's has a winning team here they were both very personable and knowledgeable. All of the staff are good at what they do already and I still can not believe that they have not even opened. BJ's brews their own beers and have about eight to choose from, we tried them all and they were all good. They even make their own root beer which was great. Their food won my heart but all of the other features and pluses made this a winner what else could you ask for good food, good drink, and all served with a smile and expert service. Absolutely the worst experience ever. Went to BJ's back in June with a couple friends and waited two hours for food and an hour for our drinks? Half the food was cold and we were billed improperly and waited 20min for it to get fixed. One bad night ok maybe you can chalk it up to short staffing. Tonight however, we returned with my husband, daughter and her friend. We again had horrible experiences. We were recommended by the hostess to sit in the bar area to cut down on wait times. The waiter came right away and took our drink order and food order. We received our drinks quickly but after that he never checked in on us. Not for a refill, not to bring us our appetizer, not to tell us he was going home! People started leaving all around us and new groups sitting down and started getting their food. After an hour and a half of trying to flag someone down we were told he left and we had a new waiter. She told us she re-put in our order and she was sorry but he left. We were furious but understood it not to be her fault. After another 30 min still no food and my husband asked for the check for our drinks because we were going to leave. She said she was checking on the food and please don't go. We waited five minutes and over the next 30 brought our food and appetizer out in clusters. I had ordered the endless soup and salad with a Pazouki and never got a refill or my Pazouki. Food was cold. Bill was not correct. We were there for over 2 1/2 hours. Management never came. Horrible experience, mediocre food and absolutely horrible timing and service. They have permanently lost a customer! Don't waste your time or money. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but after eating at BJ's in Modesto, I felt morally obligated to share my experience with the world. When I walked into BJ's, I was one person. When I walked out, I was a completely different human being. Some people find religion. Some people discover themselves through travel. I discovered enlightenment through pizza, burgers, and Pizookies. Let's start with the food. The deep dish ziti wasn't just ziti, it was an experience. The BBQ Chicken Pizza was absolutely mouth-watering. Whoever created that recipe deserves a Nobel Prize. The Smokehouse Burger? Unreal. I took one bite and immediately understood why humanity invented burgers. The Appetizer Sampler Plate should honestly be classified as a public service. Then came the Pizookies. I don't even know if words can accurately describe what happened. The Margarita Flight was delicious and the perfect complement to the meal. And finally, our waitress, Liliana. Liliana was not a waitress. Liliana was an angel sent directly from heaven to ensure our dining experience achieved perfection. Friendly, attentive, incredibly kind, and somehow always appearing exactly when we needed something. To summarize: the food was phenomenal, the drinks were incredible, the service was flawless, and the entire experience was life-changing. If I could give them no stars I would. I went there in June with two of my friends. We didn't get drinks for almost an hour and our food for two hours. Some of it was cold. Then we were billed improperly and had to wait another 20 min for that to be resolved. Tonight Almost a month and half later, we went and sat in the bar area(recommended by the hostess for shorter wait times). We sat and they took our order right away. We got our drinks right away. People around us were leaving and new tables sitting down. All received their food before us and after an hour and a half of waiting we stopped the new waiter, ours left... The new waiter said she'd put our order in again. Previous waiter never checked on us and never even asked us for a refill. Our food came out in clusters over a 30min period and we didn't even receive all of it and then were billed improperly again. I ordered endless soup and salad with a Pazouki. Never received the Pazouki never got seconds on my soup or salad. We were there for 2 1/2 hours. Manager never came to talk to us. One bad night ok, short staffed maybe but two horrific nights... This place is a joke!!! The last 2 times i've been there had been the worst decision of my life. The first time I went with my husband and my two kids. We wait about 30 mins go a table which was reasonable since it was in a Friday and they were busy. Once seated we waited 5 mins till someone got our drinks order. 25 mins past by then 30, 45 and our drinks did not arrive. My husband told the waitress what happened. The waitress apologize and the manager explain to us that the person who take our order, his shift ended and forgot to tell the other person about our order. So because of the long time we waited, the manager told us that the everything we ate and drink was on the house. We decided to pay half of it because we understood the issue. The second time I went with my friends and they did it again! We went in a Tuesday and there was not a lot of people. They seat us right away but 30 mins past and no one show up to even take our drinks. When we told the waitress she said she was going to send someone right away. **Title: Disappointed Again at BJ's** good Ambience! I keep wondering why I return to BJ's every couple of years, hoping for improvements, but my recent visit left me feeling frustrated once more. I ordered the hot wings, and as you can see in the photo, they were burnt--definitely not what I expected. I also found it odd that the server didn't notice the quality of the ribs. It made me question the attention to detail in the kitchen. The service was also peculiar. Different staff members came to our table, making it feel disjointed. The waitress only checked in after I was halfway through my meal, and there was no follow-up to see if everything was satisfactory. Additionally, the timing of the food was off, with dishes arriving at different intervals, which disrupted the flow of the meal. On a positive note, the Diet Pepsi was refreshing! On February 26th, around 1:00 PM, our server, Cynthia M., began our dining experience by announcing that she was not in a good mood and asked us not to take offense if she came across as unpleasant. This was an immediate red flag, as it set a negative tone for the meal. After our food was served, Cynthia did not check on our table for over an hour, despite the restaurant being noticeably quiet and not busy. We eventually had to flag down another server just to request a dessert menu. When Cynthia delivered our pizookie, the ice cream had already melted by about 60%. She explained that someone had left the freezer open, but it seemed more likely that the dessert had been sitting out too long before being brought to our table. The hot cookie or brownie portion clearly caused the ice cream to melt. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing service experiences I've encountered. I came in on a Tuesday night at about 7:20pm. Me and a few others came in for dessert. We ordered four small personal Pazooki's. It took about an hour for them to come out when they came out, the plate was barely warm as if it was sitting underneath a heating lamp. Our server Lori M had left my water empty for well over ten minutes. We didn't feel as if she didn't deserve a tip with such slow service and a 23 dollar tab. After she got our receipts and saw zeros. She then proceeded to say, "I really appreciate that you guys." With a very sarcastic and dismissive tone. After I went to the front to complain about the service. She then followed me up to the counter and eaves dropped on my complaint about her. If you aren't in a hurry to get anywhere and don't mind poor customer service, this is the place for you. Noon or night, busy or not, the food will take an excessively long time to reach your table. The food itself isn't too bad, but the service is very hit-or-miss. The waiters give the vibe that they know what they're doing but most aren't very personable and don't seem to have any sense of urgency. The hostesses I've encountered at the front booth are borderline rude, and always seem inconvenienced when a guest walks in. I shouldn't have to be the one to say "hi," that's your job. I've also had several instances when they have been "out" of certain menu items or ingredients to make said items. They're one of a handful of restaurants in Modesto that are open late, which is pretty much the only reason why I keep coming back. read more

Negative stars! I Hadn't been to a Bj's in years because I'm unimpressed by their menu. We were at the mall and were hungry and limited with options so we decided to go there. The wait was unnecessary long! 1 hour wait for a 1/4 of full restaurant with waiters standing around chatting amongst each other so we waited the whole hour , service was extremely slow, food came in long in between phases a few plates at a time and waiter never checked on us. Had to waive him down for check and to go boxes. Asked for a bag he never came back with it. Like I said it was a super slow Monday night so this is unacceptable! Someone help me, I'm addicted to writing reviews!!! Anyways the BF and I visited this place last weekend and it was pretty darn crowded. It made for a good atmosphere, but getting a table took 15 minutes. I'll lay the blame on us for that one because we went at a busy time. The BF loves his BJs Specialty pizza so of course we had to have that. Kelly, our server was awesome, and she was very prompt and courteous. All in all it was a great experience, and pretty much it's one of the better places to go in Modesto. I didn't have yelp, but I do now because I wanted to give accolades to our server!! Came Friday night with our whole family and friends. There was about 20 of us and Brittany was our server. She did absolutely amazing especially for us being such a large group. She kept the beers and refills coming. She anticipated and accommodated our every need. She was funny and very happy! The place is not the usual chill and nice that I would expect but I am not really particular with that. Anyway since I was looking for beer I got BJ'S GOLIATH™ IMPERIAL RED IPA and the SPICY HAWAIIAN CHICKEN. It was not the best combination but the beer was great since it had the strength and depth that I was looking for. Signup for BJ's club points and get a free Pizookie - a famous warm, freshly baked deep-dish cookie served in a pan and topped with cold ice cream. OH BOY!! It is delicious and is FREE w/ new membership. Went for Happy Hour (till 7pm and got several BJ's custom craft beer options at $5 for 16oz. Alright. We come here all the time. When I say all the time, I mean all the time. We have had many servers many times. We have had this specific server before and thought...he isn't bad....but this time he was outstanding. His name is Sean B. And he was just in such a great mood this trip. This place is usually pretty busy, so I usually do not come here often. However the food is great and the staff is always very courteous. My favorite dishes from here are the New York Steak, Shrimp Scampi Pasta and the Calamari for an appetizer. Price wise, this place can be a bit on the high side, however well worth the price, although not always well worth the wait as depending on the hour it can take up to 30-45 mins to be seated. Here, you order your food, grab a number, and find your own seat for the food to be brought out to you. We sat at a table outside to decide what to order. There were no menus available so we just had to search for it online before heading inside to order. Despite being third in line from the register, we had an extremely long wait to order. There was only one person running the register who also had to make the drinks, meaning the service incredibly slow. We wanted to order the five taco platter, garlic fries, chicken Caesar salad, and mimosa pitcher. Sadly, we were only able to get the pitcher and salad. The cashier told us "sorry, we aren't doing fries right now." Not doing fries? Every plate in the vicinity had fries on them. She said that because it was brunch hour, only food on the brunch menu could be ordered. We looked at the brunch menu again and literally saw garlic fries as an option as a side for the burgers/sandwiches. No where did it specify that you can't order off the other menu and both were available online. What bothered us about this is that we placed this order at around 1:50pm, and brunch ended at 2:00pm. I understand that we are not entitled to things on the lunch menu during brunch-time for items like the tacos, but considering the menu swap was less than 10 minutes away and they were quite literally were "doing fries" at the time, it didn't make much sense to us. The only food that we ended up ordering was the Chicken Caesar Salad. This one dish took a super long time to receive. By the time it was brought out, the three of us nearly finished the Mimosa pitcher. The waitress noticed we had no silverware and said she would go grab us some. Because of how the service had been going thus far, we placed a bet on whether or not the waitress would come back with the silverware. Surprise, surprise. She didn't. We had to go inside later and search for silverware ourselves. We weren't even able to get sharing plates which was upsetting since the waitress asked us if we would be sharing the salad. The salad itself looked delicious, but was bland. The dressing was missing that zing and zest that a Caesar dressing typically has. I do appreciate that is was a chopped salad, had avocado, and seasoned croutons. It is just unfortunate that it was lacking any flavor at all. The food prices are quite affordable for the quantity of food you receive though. This experience was disappointing because I was so optimistic about the place. The menu looked good, it had fun and casual vibes and a cool crowd of people. If Commonwealth worked towards better service practices, it would have been a more positive experience.

The big mouth bites are delicious! They come with 4 sliders and 1 side for almost $19.00. They have mini burgers on mini buns with bacon bits, American cheese, and onions. I asked for no onions and my bacon bits to be crispy, plus got mayo on the side. I chose corn as my side dish. They no longer have the corn on the cob, it comes in a bowl. That is ok by me. My friends both ordered the "3 for me" meals. Friend one got the big crispy chicken with French fries, enchilada soup, and an iced tea. Friend two got the smashed burger, corn, enchilada soup with the tortilla strips on side, so they don't get soggy, and an iced tea. We ordered chips and salsa for the table, with the queso bowl add-on for $5.00 and some change. We actually ordered two! It is so good. For dessert we shared a cookie skillet with ice cream on the side and magic shell. Yummy! Great experience today!

We greatly appreciate it whole heartedly. Today we had the pleasure of having Oscar as our server and he was great. It was a Friday evening and a little busier than usual which made us wait a little longer. Instead of having us wait and wonder, Oscar came and explained the situation of being busy and that there were a couple more orders ahead of us. That small communication was all we needed to tell us about his work ethics. His continued customer service throughout the evening was amazing. The first red flag was the female bartender, who was dressed in sweats and a ball cap, like she had just rolled out of bed. Very unprofessional, even for a beer/pub. She seemed disinterested in serving me and was more concerned about talking with the 4 guys. Then another guy & girl joined that group. They all knew one another, obviously regulars. The beer list was decent and well-balanced. 4 IPAs, a couple of Pils/Lager and Stout/Porters, Hazy IPAs, Cider/Selzer, and 4 grocery store beers: Coors Light, Modelo, Bud Light, and ? IPAs were from Henhouse, Drakes, Dust Bowl, and ? Large food menu for such a small place. From the bar, you can easily watch the cook on the flattop. After reading the list of sandwiches, I figured the turkey/ham/etc. was the Sysco-type, inexpensive kind, so I opted for a cheeseburger. Burger & fries arrived on a metal sheet pan. The burger looked good, and the fries looked a bit undercooked (not golden brown). Bun was toasted on the flattop and had a bit of mayo, no mustard, ketchup, etc. Fries came with a small 1oz thimble of ranch. As I suspected, the fries were undercooked. I cut the burger in half, and the center was undercooked. Then I noticed the burger patty was actually two thin patties pressed together. WTF? First bite was a warning- the meat had no seasoning and tasted like cardboard. Thankfully, I got a second beer and washed down the burger. Only ate half of the burger. I'm guessing they sell a lot of booze, because there is no way people are going for the food. I wouldn't be surprised if this place is closed by the end of 2026.

I couldn't eat it after a few bites. On the other hand hubby had fish and chips which he liked. The french fries were good. So my dish was a bomb while hubby's was decent and predictable. I would return if I'm in the area because the service is so friendly and nice, but I would not order that again. I would try something more mainstream that's hard to botch up like maybe a hamburger or a sandwich.

We were not the only ones. Several other tables got up and left before we did, including families with young children who had been waiting for breakfast for an unreasonable amount of time. What made the situation especially disappointing was that the bartenders and staff were doing an excellent job under very difficult circumstances. They remained professional, attentive, and courteous despite clearly being overwhelmed by a situation beyond their control.Their drinks were great. We were informed that there were only two cooks working. While staffing shortages can happen, it was disheartening to learn that management was aware of the issue and yet there did not appear to be any effort from leadership to step in and help resolve the backlog. Seeing bartenders and servers bear the brunt of frustrated customers while families sat waiting indefinitely for food reflected poorly on the overall operation. This message is not intended to criticize the staff who were present. They were phenomenal. Rather, it is to express concern about the lack of support provided to them and the impact it had on your customers' experience. We chose your establishment because of its reputation and atmosphere, and we hope this feedback helps prevent similar situations in the future. Best of luck to the servers who ensure this short staffing and bear the insults of people who got up and left.
