I've eaten at the Black Bear in St. George, Sandy, and most recently American Fork. AWESOME food! The portions are gigantic and great tasting. You GOTTA try the pancakes ... they're like pastries. A relatively new location, we have given it several attempts. Only one time have we ever been able to get through a meal without something going wrong. While often times this can be overlooked, this last experience was the final breaking point for me. After a lackluster and somewhat cold meal, I was getting my check by the server. I noticed that I had been charge for a soft drink, but I had only ordered a water with my meal. When I brought this up with the server he looked at me, then the table, and back at me. He pulled his pen out of his apron, and pushed a lemonade towards me that my buddy had ordered. "Huh, are you sure you didn't order a lemonade?" then raised his eyebrow in an accusatory manner. I told him no, that I only had water, my buddy had ordered the lemonade. He made a noise under his breath and then told me he'd have to have his manager fix it at the register and walked away. It's a simple matter of not going back, but felt others should be aware of the way staff treat customers at this location. read more

Wow ... I brought my husband here for our first dinner after having our baby . Oh boy what a joke our meals came out completely wrong . No salad or corn bread like we ordered. Wrong sides and poorly cooked food. Not to mention being told I was wrong about what we ordered and completely being ignored by staff after food being dropped off . My husband and I work in the food industry with over 30 years experience combined...I'm writing this review as I'm sitting at our table . Took my wife here on Saturday morning. There was tons of people!!! We were thinking that it would we a long wait.. they told us 15 mins... we looked at each other and kinda doubted but we put our name on the list anyway and sat down in the waiting area. We love Black Bear and have eaten there several times and have always been happy with the food and service. We decided to order on line and have it delivered with DoorDash to our work on this particular day. The DoorDash driver delivered our order to the wrong residence, basically just left it on someones porch. When I called Black Bear to find out where our order was Matt the manager was so upset. He called Dine N Dash to check on our order, sent an email to the corporation about how this has happened before. He was so apologetic even though it was not Black Bears fault. Matt refunded our money and also sent us complementary dinner certificates. I was so impressed by him and how he handled the situation that wasn't even his fault. read more

Came in for a "home-cooked" meal and this location did not disappoint. Enjoyed salad, chicken fried steak and real mashed potatoes. Asked for gravy on the side and they got it right! Our waitress, Bree, was outstanding! She knew the menu well and was able to answer our questions regarding various entrees and side selections with ease. I love their food, I really do. But they have gotten my orders wrong so many times I can't count. I order online most the time, usually their tri tip dip. Tonight I asked for that item with cheese added on. They added the cheese, but also added mushrooms and onions. I didn't want onions, and I despise mushrooms. They also forgot my au jus sauce, and the sandwich is very dry without it. This has happened a few other times before as well. Never in my life have a run across this situation: we walk in and waited 20 minutes to be seated (no problem) our server was on his feet and took our order.... we got our salads, bread and drinks! As we're waiting the manager comes over (absolute dread on her face) and tells us the cook decided at 830pm that she was done, threw away all the food and walked out! Even with orders hanging in the window. Tam & Nelio were amazing, Tam & Nelio deserve a raise and promotions! That cook... she deserves to be fired and should have to pay for all the waste she caused. Not to mention she caused extra work for those employees willing to stick it out on Christmas! I am not a fan. I have been to this location twice and have been disappointed both times. The food isn't bad, it's just not great and definitely not worth the price you pay. Some of their prices were comparable to Cheesecake Factory and the like and NOT NEARLY as good. There are at least a hundred places I would rather go than here. First time I went for lunch and got the patty melt and it was the worst one I've ever had and the second time I got the biscuits and gravy and it was not great either. The biscuits were dry and they did not give enough gravy for the amount of dry biscuits. I really wanted to like this place because I had seen great reviews but this place left me feeling like I wasted my hard earned money. read more

Great dining experience. We were sat quickly. Took a few minutes for our waitress to arrive but she was apologetic and we weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter. Waitress was knowledgeable and got our order put in and out to us quickly. Our meal was cooked correctly and tasted great. We each got The Grizzly. Black bear diner tends to be one of the higher end all-day breakfast joints. This location is no exception. From the time we walked in we were greeted and the waiter asked us where we prefer to seat..that never happens! We got our drinks and placed our order; the food was delicious and the waiter was very attentive to us and sincere. He always came back to fill my drinks on time and at the end he offered to get me my drink to go. Which also never happens. We were super excited when a BBD opened by us, but this location is sub standard. Food doesn't taste as good as at other locations. They don't offer prime rib like other BBD's which was the main reason we ate at BBD. Pancakes burned on one side and undercooked on the other. Sandwiches dry. Service is terrible. If you go after 8 in the evening they are out if everything. It's been a disappointment every time I've been there. read more

I feel like they deserve two and a half stars, for what it's worth. I might try again. This is a pretty slick chain. It was really busy considering it's only been open a few weeks. My coworker had been there before, and said it's always that busy. Anyway, I had the chicken fried steak breakfast. The regular size chicken fried steak, which is a bit on the small size for me (5oz they say) but they offer a bigger one. The chicken fried steak was good. Tender, good flavor, good texture to the crust. The white gravy was good, and that's saying something because it can be pretty bland at a lot of restaurants. Strip cut hash browns were alright. Maybe a little overdone, but not bad. Ordered eggs over medium and got them runny as hell. That's sort of normal and i sort of expected it. Well, I expected over easy anyway. The trick here is that when they used to restrict restaurants from serving uncooked eggs in california and some other places, if you ordered "over easy" they apologize and say they can't do that. And then if you order over medium, the cook knows that nobody orders over medium and just makes them over easy. It's a thing. It's the "biscuit" i take issue with. I sensed something was wrong when the waiter said "Is the biscuit ok with that or do you want toast or something else?". The biscuit is not ok. I like biscuits. I've invested a ton of time into mastering the art of making them from scratch. I can make multiple styles of biscuits competently. They have had a negative impact on my health. This was not, strictly speaking, a biscuit, let alone a good one. What you get is a misshapen cube of quickbread about 3.5 inches on a side. It's hard on top, soft on bottom, and has a weak, uneven crumb to it's core. You certainly can't take a bite out of the thing so you have to break pieces off or cut slices. The resulting chunks are too weak to mop up any of the stuff on your plate that tastes a lot better than the biscuit. It did not have good flavor or texture. I actually kind of wonder if they just order balls of the dough that "rising crust" frozen pizzas are made from and arrange them in a cake pan. Part of the problem is that whoever baked them packs them together like potato rolls and they end up all stuck together, which prevents the sides from baking the way that biscuits are supposed to bake. But the main problem is that it's just a flavorless cube of starch. It's not even warm, but it's not like they gave me any butter or honey with it either. So get the toast. read more

The first time I came here, I really enjoyed it. The sweetcream pancakes are outstanding. Everytime I have been back since it has got worse and worse. The last time I came I orderd the Volcano. It's supposed to come with 3 pancakes. What I got was 1 big pancake and 2 very small pancakes attempting to resemble a volcano. When I inquired as to why the change, I was answered with, " it just depends on the cook". When I asked how much another pancake would cost, I was told $3.49. WHAT!!! $3.49 for 1 pancake? I came to this location when the first opened and the service was fairly slow. But my last dining experience was awesome. RACHEL, was one of the nicest servers I've ever had. Service was on point. Food really hit the spot! I forget how huge portions can be. We ordered a side order of biscuits and gravy and it was huge enough to be an entree! Wow! What a difference 3 months have made.Went there with family for Thanksgiving Day. It had not been open very long but it was amazing! Almost 5 stars. Wonderful Prime Rib and their turkey and dressing was also very homemade tasting.The seasoned vegetables just crispy enough.Their ranch dressing is thick (almost blue cheese consistency) and one of my favorites. The 2 stars apply to my Feb 14th visit. It was horrible!!! Expecting it to be crowded, we were there to get on a wait list for a table of five at 5:45pm.The wait was a little over 20 minutes. The Prime Rib special was also available for Valentine's Day!I am a huge Prime Rib fan. We were actually in our seats about 6:10 and our waiter greeted us almost immediately. We ordered 5 ice waters. When he was delivering drinks, he spilt one of our waters (it happens) at a table over from us. After he dropped off the 4 waters he still had, we were definitely ready to order. All of us hungry from a light lunch. We asked our waiter about the Prime Rib and he said they were out of it. He said they were out of "Ribs". We repeated that we were interested in the Prime "Rib." He seemed a little confused about the difference. We went ahead and ordered 3 Prime Ribs dinners, a Sirloin and Fried Shrimp Dinner, and a kid's meal with steak. He was going to check on the availability of the Prime Rib. For 10 minutes we reviewed the menu anticipating we might have to place a different order. He finally returned and told us it was the "Ribs" they did not have. He also brought the replacement glass of water. Shortly following the glass of water being dropped off, we noticed that 3 tables of 5 or more seated after us and close to us had already received their salads and cornbread muffins... We couldn't see our waiter anywhere to ask him where our first course was!?!? The salads and dressings were as good as always and the warm cornbread muffins with the honey butter- practically a dessert, wonderful! But I have never seen Prime Rib and Sirloin in the form that was served to us. Each of the 3 Prime Ribs and the Sirloin was in TWO pieces. One piece was medium well and the other well done. All our steaks had been ordered medium rare or less. The cuts of meat were so fatty and grisly that only a third of it was edible and that part almost jerky like in it's texture. I received french fries instead of the red skinned mashed potatoes I ordered. I am glad that the mistake was made. The fries have the potato skins left on and were the best thing on my plate! Finally, nothing but the corn muffins came to our table hot. Every item was lukewarm at most. I don't expect Ruth Chris or even TX Roadhouse quality steak or service when I go to Black Bear Diner, but I do expect a decent edible cut of meat and a reasonably prompt wait person.I regret the $50 for our two dinners because we definitely did not receive $50 worth of food or service. The only one that enjoyed their Valentine's Day dinner was my GSP doggie that received most of our steak! read more

The food is always good. The reason for the 2 stars is because of the spotty service. I understand this is a new location but how is it that I get a NEW server 9 times out of 10? Servers that have to ask someone else questions or argue when I ask for something that I know I've ordered before. There is also a problem with them running out of menu items. Like soda?
