The server did the best he could. They had one cool apparently and the gm was cooking too. We came with kids and came at a time that we would make it home for bedtime. We waited an hour for breakfast food and then I had to remind them I was missing some of my meal. On top of that I think my meal sat under the heat lamp because the plate burned me but the hash browns were chewy and the food was not hot. The server offered dessert but I don't like restaurant dessert so I asked if we could just get a discount instead. He asked the manager and she said no. We asked to talk to her and she still didn't do anything to help. When we got up front the girl up front said that they could have discounted us. His location has huge portions of everything. The fresh squeezed orange juice is amazing. I prefer the chicken fried steak for breakfast with cinnamon grill french toast. One of my favorite breaKfast places in the area. It's probably the only meal you'll have to eat all day. read more

I came here a few weeks ago and had a horrible experience but since it was during their first few days being open I thought I would try it again, It took well over half an hour to get our food, our hash browns were cold and only partially cooked and had little bits of meat in them (which as a vegetarian is unacceptable) the French toast was soggy and rather lousy, the presentation was well below par, they put a disgusting wilted piece of lettuce and a browning orange slice on the plate which made the lousy food even more unappetizing. The server was kind and helpful by it was not enough to redeem my experience. I will not be coming here again. read more

This restaurant was great! My wife and kids loved it. The staff was very kind and caring. The place was pretty busy since they just opened. We ordered our food and it took a while for it to come out, but they were understandably busy. The manager visited our table apologizing and ensuring that we had our needs met. We also ordered a blueberry pie with ice cream on top. It came out quick and all of the food was delish! When we received our check, the manager came to our table to ensure that we didn't get charged for the dessert since our food came our late. All of the workers were very friendly and displayed a happy to help attitude. I will definitely change me here again and will suggest others to pay this diner a visit! read more

I got the gluten free molten lava brownie and it was amazing!!! It makes me happy they have gluten free options. The waitress was super cool too. However we were seated after the people who got there after us. There was only two of us and there were plenty of open tables. Great service, the food is always spot on and comes out quick, we love the counter bar where there is lots of space, and we've gotten special service from one of the star servers, Tiffany, who makes it feel like you are having breakfast in someone's home instead of a chain restaurant. I only selected one star simply because I could not give this location a "ZERO." I have been a faithful black bear diner patron for over 15 years now. I would frequent my local black bear diner every Saturday with my 7 children and my wife..often times waiting for over an hour. We always experienced amazing food and even better service. It is with massive regret and mourning that I will tell you to avoid the Black Bear Diner in American Fork, Utah like the plague! I have been here a total of 4 times now and today after my experience I have to shout out to let everyone close to me know to never come here. My family and I are very low maintenance people. We don't have high expectations and we really enjoy the menu here but, I have to say this is not even close to the standard that was set at several other locations that we have frequented in Salt Lake City. The American Fork, UT location is nowhere near up to the standard that the black bear diner has created at their other locations. Food usually is wonderful but I had a taco salad today and a breakfast last week that literally, I could not even finish. I don't know what the owner is thinking in his hiring practices as this is a franchise and being a franchise owner I cannot understand his logic in hiring so many that have absolutely no regard for what service actually is and no regard for how to take care of customers. It is with great regret that I report that sometimes service can be terrible and the food is great but, at this location the service is terrible...the food is old used up and has been sitting in the freezer for days. I have contacted corporate offices as well to let them know that their reputation for excellence is being tainted by a small location here in American Fork Utah. Go to the Draper or a West Jordan location if you're looking for the standard that the black bear diner has established since the early eighties. SOOOO disappointed!! read more

This place was great. You get that small diner feel even though its a chain. Everyone was very friendly and our meals where very good. Chicken fried steak was nice and tender inside crispy on the outside. I got fries with my sandwhich and dipped them in their homemade bacon ranch dressing that is to die for. The best part about our visit wasnt even the food though. It was our server. Bridger thank you for being so upbeat, fun, and helpful. I have only had that kind of service at 5 star restaurants where I am paying a heck of a lot more. Thanks for making our visit great. I would recommend giving black bear a try. Do yourself a favor and go to the Orem location where the service is 10X better and the food is warm and doesn't sit under a warmer for 10 minutes before being served. I have been to this American Fork location 3 times and each time I leave disappointed. We came here on a Friday night with a party of 8... the host told us there would be a 30 minute wait which turned into an hour and a half. I checked in multiple times with the host to remind him we were still waiting. I became furious when he sat 2 large parties in front of us that arrived at the restaurant after us. I told the host we were leaving and there was no apology. I am hoping a manager will read this and train their staff better because repetitive bad service and lack of care is unacceptable. read more

It took over 25 minutes for the first 3 of us to be served but ANOTHER 20 minutes before they got the last meal out to the table. Food was lukewarm at best and the last one served was a 3-year-old who only wanted chocolate chip pancakes (how hard is it to make THOSE? Evidently a real challenge at BBD). I usually like Black Bear Diner but not today. Had the Turkey Pesto sandwich with fries. It was good but the unedible, tough, crunchy edges of the turkey had to be removed so I could take a bite. The idea of the sandwich is good but the execution was poor and for a sandwich over $10, I was disappointed. AND the fries were awful. :( They were soggy. I won't be back to try again unless I'm at the St George location. The server was friendly but maybe needs to pay more attention when the patrons aren't eating. Pepsi only no Coke ( deal breaker for me) so it was water or a $4+ Orange juice. Pancakes were overly vanilla ish, and Kind of dry. Biscuits were huge and yucky bland pasty. SLOW AND SLOPPY We had a horrible experience with the staff at Black Bear Diner. When we were seated they rushed to get us drinks and take our order, and then did not come back to our table for 40 minutes, when we flagged down a manager. When the manager arrived we were told the kitchen was a bit slow, but that is no excuse for them to never check on us or visually check on our order. They never refilled our drinks or asked if they could get us anything like crackers to tide us over. When the manager returned, she informed us that our order was almost done. And it arrived at our table shortly after. However, then when I checked the kids' pancakes and my hash browns, they were room temperature. It appeared to us that our order had probably sat in the kitchen waiting to be served for a large portion of that time. this place has truly disappointed me the last three of four times I've been here, but last night was the worst. it's so disappointing too because when we started coming here for brunch in 2016, it was great! i don't know what's changed. both the food and service used to be great, but since the beginning of the year, I've noticed the quality of both worsen, but last night took the cake. my husband, myself, my father in law, sister in law, and niece came here for dinner last night, arrived right around 6:45. we were trying to eat somewhere else, but a lot of food places were closed for either the day or the evening due to the fourth (yes, yes. we're that family that didn't make any plans to have our own bbq or attended someone else's). as we were driving around american fork, we noticed that black bear didn't have many cars in its parking lot (most days this place is packed to the brim) so we decided to give it a shot. i had only been for breakfast in the past, so I didn't really know if i would like dinner here or not. we walked in, the restaurant was half empty, there was a sign on the wall that displayed their fourth of july hours, they closed at 8 that night, we had a solid hour 15 min until then. we were seated in a larger booth, given menus, we quickly decided what we wanted and what to drink, but 20 minutes went by and nothing. no one came back to check on us, no water, no silverware, nothing. we started to get pretty annoyed, we were thinking about seeing a movie afterwards, but that was most likely not gonna happen now. my husband grabbed a waitress, she came to our table and noticed that we didn't even have any drinks yet. she said "oh my gosh you guys! have you not been helped yet?!" my sister in law was pretty annoyed and explained that we had been waiting 20 minutes and we were now ready to order not only drinks, but food as well. she scrambled to take our orders, then scuffed into the kitchen to tell her manager that we had sat that long without help and we were upset/rude to her, which we really weren't considering their terrible service. she came back with drinks 5 minutes later and went a whole rant about how she was sorry, but we really couldn't be too upset with them because "it's the Fourth of July, we really didn't think people would come here tonight because everyone's supposed to be at a bbq right?! so we're understaffed and we are closing soon! but it's okay now because I'll make sure you get taken care of, then we can put all this behind us! right guys?!?" sorry, wrong aniston. after that, the food did all come out pretty fast, she and her manager walked out with all the food and placed it in front of us, she kept over apologizing which got old, the manager however, didn't say a word and didn't offer any of her apologies or offer to comp any of our items. my family all ordered breakfast food items, and i ordered their bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries- pancakes for dinner didn't sound so good to me. the burger was greasier than I expected, and they doused it in mayo so it was really runny, i ended up eating it with a fork and picking most of it apart. the fries weren't anything special and i gave them away to my family. everyone else said their food wasn't very good, my husband (who can normally lick his plate clean) hardly touched his food. our server probably came back to check on us 5 times while we were eating, it truly felt like she was overselling herself. she was young, probably in high school, so i felt bad, but she wasn't really picking up on any of our queues. we all left feeling pretty disappointed in the meal. like i said, we used to love this place, it really was the only decent brunch place in the af/pg/lehi/highland/alpine area. but now that the food and service is equally terrible, my husband and i agreed that we will not come back. it's so much more worth it to go get brunch in salt lake, so many options with such good service. sorry black bear, i guess you just don't keep up anymore. read more
