At Black Bear the breakfast menu is available all day which I really like as I enjoy breakfast foods at dinner time too. If you order sweet or unsweetened tea unlimited refills are available. If you order an Arnold Palmer like I did, that particular drink along with 2 other lemonade options get one free refill only. I drank accordingly. My daughter had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli which she enjoyed. My dinner of pancakes, bacon and eggs was very good. The cook got my eggs exactly right. On the table there is original pepper sauce, chipotle sauce and habanero sauce available. If you want Cholula hot sauce or Tabasco it's available by request. At the front of the restaurant , they have cute baby clothes available for purchase. Cashier is also situated near the entrance/exit since you get up to pay when you're done with your meal. Without further ado, let's talk food. It's no joke when I say the food portions are ginormous. I had a large appetite and finished everything, but can't say the same for my friends. Since we all had our morning coffee already, we decided on the huckleberry lemonade - it had a nice sweetness to it without any tartness. For brunch, I chose the California bacon benedict. I'm a fan of the fresh lettuce and fruits; can't go wrong with adding more color to a delicious plate. My egg was cooked a tad bit too long, and didn't have that runny/oozy egg yolk. We had the option of making those hash browns soft or crispy. I went with soft and my friend went with crispy. We both ended up getting crispy hash browns somehow. There definitely a lot of hype about Black Bear Diner. So we took the advice and waited for a weeknight dinner time. Stopped by for dinner on a Wednesday around 6. No wait and only half full dining room. I have to say the inside is really cool. Almost like you're transported to a mountain cabin. The staff was also very friendly. Our waiter was Phillip and he was helpful and prompt checking on us and refilling our drinks. Kudos to not overcharging on drinks too. That was noticed. I ordered the Bears Choice breakfast with bacon, two eggs and pancakes. I also ordered a side of grits after asking how good it was. The waiter said I should try it but never brought it out. Luckily I wasn't charged for it either. Bummer, I did want to try. The pancakes were good and the bacon was thick and crispy. Black Bear is new to the area. I was hoping for something different we arrived right before the morning rush, Our server Syndey was the best part of the visit. Coffee was served cold, not warm at all, which she corrected for us. I had 2 eggs over easy with bisquits and gravy with thick sliced bacon. Bisquits were hugh crusty on top and fluffy on the inside with a little gravy on top, I like them smothered. Thick bacon, naw. I get thicker slices from Wright Brand at the grocery. I had the good fortune of an invite to Black Bear Diner's soft opening and was so impressed with every aspect! The black bear and mountain theme is inescapable and the entire staff is incredibly welcoming. We interacted with no less than 6 members of the staff, from seating, refilling coffee, taking empty plates and making sure we ha# all we needed. The menu is broad, so the most difficult task was choosing what to eat. I selected the Chicken Fried Steak Benedict and I also got to sample the Pancake Volcano, which are topped with sunny-side up eggs which, when cut, run down the stack like breakfast lava. The pancakes are Sweet Cream, making them taste more like cake, which would go nicely with a fruit compote, or frosting for those with a sweet craving. The Chicken Fried Steak Benedict included perfectly poached eggs over very tender breaded steak and fluffy biscuit. I especially enjoyed the fresh squeezed orange juice, which was clearly pure juice and delicious! My biggest concern? As soon as people find out about this place, it's going to be packed all the time! I highly recommend Black Bear Diner, and I plan to be a regular. read more

My boyfriend and I went there to grab a bite and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table which is not bad. It was really busy inside the diner. It felt like walking into a diner and gift shop at the same time because the diner was also selling stuffed bear doll, clothes, bag, etc. We got our table and our server gave us the cutest menu that is literally a newspaper with the history about the diner, comic, facts about 1995, and huge selection of food items on menu. It was hard to pick but we got the southern scramble with the side of hashbrown, reuben sandwich (without cheese because I am dairy intolerant) with a side of coleslaw, a cup of coffee, and huckleberry lemonade. The food was okay. I do like my sandwich. The corned beef was a bit dry but I do like the saurakrat because it cuts the meaty taste of the sandwich. The coleslaw was really good. I love the service, I love the staff and most of their food but the chicken fried steak is HORRIBLE. It is a pre-fab thin, frozen patty and the oil used to cook it overwhelmed the flavor of the meat, because the oil was obviously due for changing out and old. For $15.99 on Thanksgiving especially I had high hopes for it. This is NOT how a true Texas diner makes chicken fried steak. It should be a REAL piece of steak, not a thin flat patty, with a REAL had dipped crust on it. I couldn't even finish it. Left hungry. DO NOT order the pre-fab chicken friend steak. The cornbread roll was the only reason I didn't starve. This restaurant is based out of CA---and should NOT be selling FAKE chicken fried steak in Texas!! I came here with a friend on a Friday afternoon and the diner had a handful of people there. We were seated within a couple of minutes and were given their newspaper menu. Their menu is extensive with plenty of food to choose from. I ordered the chili which came with a cornbread muffin and I ordered an additional cornbread muffin. The muffin and chili came out hot, fresh and flavorful. The butter that came with the muffin was delicious as well. The prices are reasonable and our waiter was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu. My friend enjoyed her burger as well. I look forward to returning. read more

Man! What can I say, this place was fantastic. I was on my way back down to south Texas from OKC, and I noticed it on the map. Been to other locations before and they're usually good. This one had a lot of friendly staff in the morning and it was super helpful. The location was good, right off the highway and easy to access. The interior is in typical fashion very outdoor themed which was cool. The food came out super fresh and fast. They gave HUGE portions! After multiple attempts, I finally made it to Black Bear Diner. The decor is awesome! Carved bears everywhere. Most with a little added humor. They have gone to great lengths to put the bear theme in every inch of their restaurants! A huge menu, with a partially open kitchen, so you can't see the cooks hustling to keep everyone happy. I want to try the tri tip steak and shrimp, but it's not available on the weekly lunch menu. So, Rueben it is! I love Rueben's, and this is a really good one! Sandwich was wonderful, but the fries were limp, definitely not crispy like I like them. Just a little longer in the fryer guys! See the blackberry bear claw that's bigger than my hand? It was delicious, but $9 is a little steep for a pastry. At $6, I'd buy it all day long. Black Bear is a fun diner, with good music and happy employees. Give them a try! read more

Let be start with the good. This place was nice, clean, and well lit. The server (Dylan?) was outstanding. It was only his 5th day, but he was great and tried very hard. We went for dinner, and started with the fresh baked bear claw (why not?) with blackberry filling. It came out warm, gooey and the center was magma-hot. Would recommend! The tomato basil soup had the taste of straight tomato, with very little seasoning. It arrive at the table slightly above lukewarm. The wife got the patty melt (and she's a connoisseur). The bread was crispy, and the patty was cooked to medium, but it lacked any flavor or seasonings. In her words, "I've had a lot of bad patty melts, and this was one of the better of the bads". I had the chicken fried steak. They offer a 5oz option on their lighter fare, but this thing was pretty huge. Looking through the pics, I'm not sure they really have 2 options, so order the smaller one and get the extra value! It was perfectly bland, almost like chewing nothing at all. I had to add salt and pepper to both the steak and the gravy. The CFS comes with red skinned mashed potatoes. They were room temperature. I'm not sure they had ever been warmed (read: food borne illness). When Dylan happily took them back, he returned with another "scoop" out of the same room temperature tray, with piping hot gravy on it. No go. When he offered hash browns as an alternative, I eagerly agreed. Then the hash browns were on the bill as an extra... we informed Dylan we would not be paying for those, and he happily took them off. I think what gets me is we had bad experience, and the kitchen was having a rough night. As I watched my young waiter go repeatedly to the manager, he always got the issue resolved, and kept a great attitude! However, the manager who knew we had a problem, walked past our table 3 times, including bumping my chair lightly once, and never stopped. He wasn't going to say sorry, he wasn't going to ask us to try them again on a different night, he wasn't going to suggest we come for breakfast (which might be their specialty), he wasn't going to comp part of our meal, and certainly wasn't going to offer a nice dessert to compensate for the kitchen he was inadequately running. We might be back in 6 months or a year, and see if they can get their act together, but I doubt they will with the currently managment. 2 Stars (1 just for the outstanding waiter) read more

Decided to try a new brunch place in town. I normally don't do brunch but there was so much hype with this one I had to try. There was obviously a wait, about 20-30 minutes, around 1:30pm on a Saturday morning. Not too bad. I ordered the blackberry stuffed French toast as it sounded so delicious and warm. It was disappointing. It's not a French toast but more like a hard croissants. The filling was pretty good but it was not what I expected. I should have read the description more. I ordered a chicken sausage on the side and that was good. I think the best thing was the pancakes. Those were actually good. Flavor is soft and buttery! I'd only come back for that. read more

When I arrived the place was full of people so the only seat available was at the counter. Very noisy inside. I had a competent waitress. The wait was quite long after I placed my order, however, I saw that the kitchen staff were working hard to do a ton of orders. Unfortunately, my order was messed up. I ordered my eggs over hard and was served runny with a bit of undercooked egg white and I found an eye lash in it. My first pancake was tasting but the one under it was bitter at first bite so I turned it over and saw it was overcooked on one side. The ham piece was burnt on top. A staff member noticed and tried to get the kitchen staff to make me a new egg and pancake. The new egg was actually even less cooked! And the pancake had something green in it. At this point I decided to just leave. The waitress came to clear my plate and when I pointed out the green stuff, she said it is probable green sprinkles that they put on kid dishes. This Black Bear Diner is much smaller than ones I have been to in the past. This is the first time I have left disappointed at a Black Bear Diner. Photos are from my order. I forgot to take a photo of the replacement egg that was also undercooked and the pancake with green stuff in it. I drove out of my way to go here. The decor is what you would expect for The Black Bear Diner. Rustic, mountain charm with the old time mom and pop feel. Service was good with one additional person to stop by to check on us. I ordered the Bears Choice breakfast. I chose 2 poached eggs, they came out a bit wet but cooked well, the mild sausage patties and the sweet cream waffle. All were very good. Then we had the Open Face Turkey sandwich. The potato's are mashed with skins, the turkey thin sliced, all topped with gravy. We would have again. The portions were large, we had some of each plate to take home. Definitely recommend for breakfast and lunch and will certainly return to try dinner. read more

So excited when I saw that Black Bear Diner was opening a Fort Worth location! This family owned chain from Northern California is known for fabulous service, comforting, hearty meals and an impressive commitment to the Black Bear theme! Outside, you're greeted by a few black bear totem-esque wood sculptures and a neat mural! In the lobby area they have cute little gift shop merchandise with Black Bear plushies, shirts etc. This is also where you can see their pie counter and bear claws, pick up orders and where you end your paying at the end. We've come a few times now and it has consistently been super clean (and I mean immaculate), well staffed, with quick and friendly service. The menu is printed newspaper style and features all day breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything is very reasonably priced considering the portion sizes are BIG, the value is definitely there. I really love the variety on the menu. So far, I've only had breakfast, but I saw they have Reubens and BLTs for lunch so I'm going to try one of those on my next visit. I love that they serve their tea with extra hot water on the side and a lemon wedge. As an avid tea drinker, I appreciate little details like this! My one complaint is that they only had decaf green tea on my last visit. I do understand though because it was a Monday after a busy weekend, so I'm sure they ran out sometime then. Everything comes out super hot and fresh, made to order and with your choice of toast or biscuit. Be aware that the biscuits are GIGANTIC! Literally bigger than your fist! They're super fluffy and buttery, so I never mind taking them home for leftovers. Make sure you try their personal hot sauces too. There's Papa Burn (Habanero) Mama Burn (Chipotle) or Baby Burn (Original). They're all pretty good but our personal fave is Mama Burn! So good on everything! Definitely quickly becoming one of our fave places to eat. Can't wait to report back once we've tried dinner and lunch. If you're debating coming here, let me help you decide...GO!! Luckily I remembered so I came out for breakfast the other day, before I got started on my task for the day. Black bear is a very cute themed restaurant, with outstanding service. Seriously, GWL could take some notes from Black bear with a few of their restaurant themes and choices. I loved the news paper menu, and the pie display was really tempting. The Black Bear breakfast is a good option to give them a shot with. I got the waffle which filled me up on it's own. I ended up taking the eggs and chicken sausage to my husband that enjoyed them both. Chicken sausage is an upcharge as an FYI ... My one suggestion for them is to add other non-pork meat options to the options for this platter. I really do hope we get the chance to come back at lunch time to try out those food options. Service really knocked it out of the park! I wish I remembered her name, but she was really on top of everything, and taking amazing care of all of her tables.
