I'll start off by saying the customer service is VERY friendly, and my waitress Lisa was spot on. Ask for her section when you arrive!! I ordered "The Grizz" with hash browns, and their orange juice for my first attempt at this place. $15.39 for the breakfast plate, $3.99 for each large glass of the OJ... and a Huckleberry shake for the road. $5.99 The portions are spot on with the pricing. If you like a little flavor on your eggs and hashbrowns I recommend a good dose of the Mama Bear sauce which is at each table. We are a family of 7 and we come here for breakfast 2-3 times a month.Never had a complaint, the food has always been good and the service excellent. All that changed today, our waitress named Faviola came to our table 10' after we set down and her first interaction with us was " hi, how are you? I will be taking your order all together ". She didn't bring a straw for my daughters orange juice, didn't fill up the creamers for the coffee, when my food showed up, I asked for A1 sauce ( twice ) and never got it. My steak was well done instead of medium and my eggs scrambled instead of over easy. I would give the service (servers) 5 star and also the food, but the cleanliness is a concern (not for them!). The very first impression I got upon being taken to our booth was the nastiness of the carpet. I am not a complainer but this was over the top. It immediately turned me off. I thought surely the busser or the manager would clean it up, but no. It made me wonder about the kitchen. A busser did reset the 3 tables across from us, only improving the appearance of the top but not the nastiness underneath. There was a dirty knife that another guest actually kicked out of the way upon being seated, there were used creamer packets, paper straw holders and general unsightly crumbs, etc. that made the whole experience very unappetizing. Mangement, you must do a better job if you want us to come back, because my elderly mother really did like your comfort food. The manager did come to the table to offer us more coffee but gave no notice to the absolute disastrous mess around us. It was only upon checking out up front when I told the girl that it needed vacuuming, that someone finally came to start cleaning up. While we were eating a young worker blindly strolled thru with her vacuum, which served no purpose. She did not even SEE the whole mess under all the tables. Please fully clean before turning your tables over, Black Bear. Our booth was also not wiped out before we sat down. I had to sweep off the crumbs. It matters!!! We care. It was my family's and I first time eating here , we recommend going on weekdays ! They're was a wait on a Sunday which is very understandable it is very busy but they seat and clean tables ASAP . My kids enjoyed the kids meal which had good options my husband tried the Bigfoot Chicken fried stake and egg and it came with huge biscuits. First thing we observed was overall decor ... which I personally thought was really cool, especially the chairs at the bar, whereas the missus liked the wall mural in the main dining area. I've been to Black Bear Diners from California to Texas. The eggs looked cooked on top ( over medium ) but below them they was VERY light and liquidy as in not cooked properly. The toast was under cooked and over buttered with green in it ( I'm assuming they used the same knife to cut avocados ). The fresh Orange Juice is good. For a $60 breakfast meal ( 3 people ) This Black Bear Diner is not trained properly in food serving. The kitchen does not seem to have a good handle on cooking. Co-Workers have told me about it here and the bad experiences they've had. I told them they only might have had a bad day. After my experience in today. I understand why my co-workers go against Black Bear Diner. In my healthy opinion I will not recommend this Diner to anyone. read more

No picture this time since it was basic waffle, ham, and eggs, but wanted to try someplace new and was left completely disappointed. First the food.. the eggs were pretty good and the habanero hot sauce they have wasn't bad for that. The ham was def real ham which was good, but very bland and wasn't grilled to make it great. The waffle, imo wasn't that great, though. Whole thing was very soft (usually the edges are a little crispy, but this was very soft which is kinda weird for me when I wanted a actual waffle. All of that was lackluster, but the primary reason for the less stars was the service. The server gave the menu and immediately asked what wanted to drink, so no time to even start looking at the menu and then gave us less than a minute to decide what we wanted to eat. When she brought out the food, she placed the receipt on the table almost immediately, so didn't even have chance to look at desserts or anything when we finished our food. Though we did decide we wanted dessert and got it to go because we just wanted to leave. My wife told her what she wanted and before I had a chance to say anything, the waitress was already a bit from our table, so I had to call her over to order what I wanted. So I was really debating between 1 and 2 stars based purely on the service.... Our $51 meal would normally get $18 and the change since I've worked for tips and many jobs and know what it's like, but this time, I only tipped $3 which in 20+ years only the 3rd time I've gone out to eat and tipped less than $10... We might try them again too see if next time is a better experience, but this time left me not a very happy customer read more

we've eaten at this Black Bear Diner before with good experiences. This one, September 2025, was a big disappointment. We ordered to go at the reception desk including a baked potato with butter and sour cream. The butter and sour cream were left out of the order. We ordered a banana cream pie which was mostly crust and whipped cream with a little filling. the apple cobbler we ordered was only about half cooked when we got home. The pot roast was good as was the corn on the cob. I'm not sure if we'll be back. read more

I've been twice now. Both times during the week, in the day time. Service was good both times. First visit I had the lighter side chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. At best it was lukewarm, and as a native Texan I should have known better. It reminded me of public school cfs cutlets. Definitely wouldn't order again. Second visit I had a ham & cheese omelet. We've been regulars since it opened and even have family, who live an hour away, meet us there from time to time. We've all noticed a decline as time has gone on. Even our normal to-go order for my son, he's noticed the decline as well. Last night's mashed potatoes in his meal were really off. I thought maybe he was over exaggerating, but when I took a bite, I had to spit it out. We love this place and really want to see it do well. The staff is great, the place is clean. The food and/or communication in the kitchen seems off. There was one waitress for most of the tables, some of them large parties, so we went without drink refills. I asked for no spinach on my meal, but it had spinach on it. We asked for more gravy for our half eaten biscuit, but didn't get the gravy for quite a long time and when we did, it was in a to-go container and our biscuit was cold. Before we got it, the waitress came by 3 times to ask if we had gotten our gravy yet. We were clearly sitting and waiting for it, with our dry biscuit. Gravy was watery, yet very lumpy. When it was poured over the biscuit, it was transparent because of how watery it was. Our to go meal was incorrect and we thought it was fixed in-store, but when we got out to the car, we checked it and it didn't even have the grilled chicken in it, the main dish. It was just mashed potatoes and French fries (fries were the wrong side to begin with). The mashed potatoes were disgusting, like the potatoes were spoiled and used anyways. A very tart aftertaste. The bowl of fruit used to be fantastic. Now it's little pieces with a lettuce garnish in it to take up some of the space. It wasn't crowded by any means, but there was a line of irritated customers waiting to pay and another line waiting for a table because there was no one up front for quite awhile. No place is perfect and one or two of the things listed above would happen during visits, but it was just consistently a mess last night. If it were our first visit, we wouldn't return. If last night as a night we were meeting with family, they wouldn't have made the drive again and would pick a different restaurant for the future. We know how great it can be, so we will definitely be back and hope that we just came on a bad night, but I wanted to write this so someone knows customers are noticing read more

Instead of poached eggs, we got over cooked almost hard boiled eggs and the hollandaise sauce while tasty was broken. Having said that, the rest of the meal was good. The potatoes were great.
