This is one of the worst locations for Black Bear. Today, I decided not to never come back. Every time I've been here all kind of things go wrong. Usually someone's food come out way after everyone else's, like 10 minutes or MORE. The order is WRONG EVERY TIME. Ex ordered over easy, get scrambled. Ordered scramble with avocado, no avocado comes. Also, the servers are hit or miss. We've been basically ignored the whole time on occasion. Some, I can't blame the server though because they have too many tables. So staffing issue. The cold brew that is supposed to be refilled is never refilled. Dennys is better at this point. read more

I treated myself to a movie on thanksgiving day. I had planned on going to Joshua Tree but the heavy rain caused me to think otherwise. After the movie I decided to go on an adventure in search of a eatery during the evening hours. Boston Market in Tustin had a long line wrapping around outside. I kept driving and most of the eateries were closed, didn't blame them for it being thanksgiving. As I was ready to make a u-turn and head back to downtown Fullerton I noticed Black Bear Diner's lights on and full of patrons. I walked in and was enthusiastically greeted by Krystal. She had a warm and friendly persona. Krystal sat me and we talked about life. It was pretty cool and refreshing as hospitality is not the same as it once was. Teresa was my waitress and happily took my order, frequently checking on me. The portions were plenty and perfect for my ferocious appetite. The atmosphere was simple and welcoming. Pictures of black bears galore. I'm a naturalist and love the wilderness/wildlife, I felt right at home! Thanksgiving Day. This year we skipped our traditional cooking at home and decided to venture out- 6 of us in the pouring rain. I knew Black Bear Diner always has a fantastic meal on turkey day, and we were not disappointed. First, the crowd- busy but the wait was only about 20 minutes. The staff greeted us with a smile and a friendly attitude. The food was incredible. Some of us had the turkey, and some of us the prime rib. I have to say this is one of the best prime ribs I've had in a long time. The sides were delicious as well. However, the true shining star of the day was our server, Summer. Summer brought her A game- super friendly, super attentive, and just an absolute joy to be around. Our entire table was impressed with her. Since I had a Very Bad Experience at the La Habra location for my normal order of Country Fried Steak which was the worst biscuits with watered down country gravy. I decided to go to my favorite location in Fullerton. Silvia was my waitress after I couldn't get the proper help because Tim wasn't familiar the menu like Silvia because she was my waitress the last time we were here. So today I ordered a side of 1 biscuit with country gravy with sausage. First biscuit was harder with not enough homemade gravy. She got me a fluffy biscuit with gravy but Not Nearly Enough Country Gravy. As you can see in the pictures it took 3 containers of gravy to get the right amount of gravy. There way to skimpy with there servings. In the 80's I made country biscuits and Country Sausage Gravy in a Cast skillet on a Wood Stove. So I Definitely Know What GOOD Biscuits And Gravy Should Taste Like! The Gravy Was My Kind Of Thick Country Sausage Gravy!!! I had the Sweet Cream Waffle on the first Sunday in 2022 at La Habra the waffle is Too Thick To My Liking. As you can see in the picture, The Sweet Cream Pancakes ARE THE BEST EVER!!! As you can see the pancake was a little more done than I would have liked. Lighter Is Always Better For Everything For Me. In the 80's we would always go to the local diner and they knew exactly how we wanted our meal So It Was Always Perfect!!! It's Not That Way Because We Have Way Too Many Choices To Choose From In A Metropolis!!! Now the Ham Steak Was The Perfect Size For Me! Now We Get To The Best Part! DESSERT!!! By far the worst service at any black Bear Diner, usually i go to the brea location, which provides amazing service and everyone is usually very friendly, however i was near the fullerton location and decided to go there, from the start when we entered no one was in the front, waited almost 20 minutes to be even noticed, once seated our drinks were served and waited again over 20 minutes for the server to even come to our table, and i asked kindly if they had a lot of of orders or if they had an approximation of how long it would take just so i can have an idea if i would make it to my next appointment since i had already lost over 45 minutes and if they were backed up then i can decided if i had enough time and she was very rude and sarcastic with her answers and lastly stated with an "i dont know it all depends what and when u order", so i told her never mind ill just pay for our drinks and she still smirked sarcastically! I am very disappointed in the service I had recently at Black Bear Diner. I was there this past Friday with my boyfriend and daughter. SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE. It took a while to order food,I didn't know it took 30 mins to make and serve a kids grilled cheese, they brought out my daghters food and the server said our food should be out shortly,after waiting another 30 mininutes,we requested to see the manager to cancel our order and the manager finally came out and asked if he would like for them to "whip something up real quick?" We said no and left. I can't believe he had the audacity to ask us that,I thought our food would of been coming out shortly after my daughter's but it turns out it wasn't even being cooked or for that matter even prepared.I will not be back here again, if I could give 0 stars I would,your better off going to Dennys. read more

The rating is based on the restaurant not the service. The host/server tried hard to make it right but we gave up on the end. Placed out order and server came back, we are out of Ceaser dressing, that's ok. Next they came out that they ran out of sweet potato fries ok no problem we will take regular fries, long story short they were out of all soups, Mac and cheese, then they ran out of ice tea. I get things run out but they never informed the server so poor guy kept offering and then would have to come back to tell us he was out. Worst part is at the end they charged us for the 2 Mac and cheeses that came out when we were done eating. They also charged me for the 2 sides that came with my dinner not sure why but at that point I asked them to please take back the Mac and cheese since it wasn't like the one that came with my dinner it was clearly the box kind and came at the end of our dinner with our check. I told the waiter I wasn't paying for the sides and he took $15 off for the inconvenience. He tries but all the manager did was not charge us for the 2 sides he owed us from our combos. The server was trying but the rest was a terrible experience. The sides and food were cold. And we didn't really get refills because they were out just Pepsi and water. i've been to Black Bear several times, but this past Wednesday evening was an exception over the normally great service and excellent food. It is usually busy with customers lined up out the door especially in the mornings on weekends. However, this particular time, i sat at the counter and Christina was my waitress. As anyone notices in the current state of customer service, friendly and even just getting someone being cordial is rare. That evening was very, very busy, and Christina was the only waitress on the floor. She was the cashier, waitress, manager and basically everything on the floor, but what i felt was most impressive was her attitude towards the situation. She handled the situation so professionally, and without missing a beat she was getting everyone and everything that needed to be done with efficiency and great customer service. Regardless, of how hectic it may have been, she took my order quickly, i got my food quickly which was also great and certainly met my expectations, as they have every time i had been there before. I know in the past Jennifer and Samantha and some other gals whose names i can't remember (sorry) have also been absolutely amazing, and the food is always made well and there is A LOT of it. But, i just wanted to point out how awesome and amazing Christina is and under the circumstances and certainly every time, as is all the staff. Prices: are pretty average as other breakfast places. I paid $11.69 for scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and 1 pancake (most restaurants have this type of combo with 2 pancakes). Food: hash browns were dry and my aunt found a HAIR in the "Scram-bowl" plate she ordered. Good thing she hadn't even tried it when my cousin was able to spot it, yikes! Pancakes are really good though, it's a bummer they only give you one with your food. Staff: are nice and courteous, I personally feel they don't give you enough time to explore the menu.
