Bread pudding French toast
Shanelle L.

The service was good and quick. Food was really good. Everything was tastey and exactly what we ordered. The only thing I was not completely happy with was that the bread pudding french toast was not hot.

Minimal honey

Black Bear Diner is usually a solid, consistent joint for good comfort food. But, we recently came to this location and were a bit disappointed. First off, one of the bench seats to our booth was still damp. Had to use one of the paper place mats to dry it off. Also, there seemed to be a fly problem as one was hanging out on the glass window next to our booth. We had to use a napkin to send it to bug heaven. One of its dead brethren was lying lifeless on the sill already. Later, another one was doing some airborne reconnaissance around our table. The food was subpar. The bread to my club sandwich was charred. Wifey's french toast had to be cut with a steak knife. It was more like french cardboard. Part of my daughter's meal was a biscuit. She requested some honey and our waitress brought out a dispenser that had a dribble of honey left at the bottom. The amount that would require you to turn the bottle upside down for five minutes. It was comical. Maybe just an off day. If just one of the above issues happened, no big deal. But, add them all up on one visit...

Vegetarian Omelette sub egg whites

We came here for a Sunday breakfast @8am & to our surprise they didn't have any wait for a table! We've come here before when we're looking for a home cooked style traditional breakfast @ a good price for what you're getting! When you walk in you have either the counter that you can sit @ to watch the cooks do their thing or you have two dining areas.... it's quite a large restaurant. Both myself & my hubby went with egg white omelets, mine with some thick seedless rye bread, all of which is always so good but this time the cook went a tad heavy on the onions with my omelet! Overall, if you're looking for a traditional, home cooked style breakfast from a restaurant that's been around since the 50's with a great reputation then I'd definitely give Black Bear Diner a try! Also they have some great merchandise to choose from, I've bought my hubby the cutest apron from there made with thick quality cotton!

Bob's burger

The place was packed on a Monday at 10am??Well after breakfast and before lunch. The biscuits weren't as light and flavorful as their other restaurant ? Strange ? But anyway very good and huge breakfast and I had bobs burger with fries. If you don't have an appetite of an elephant. I wouldn't suggest you eat Bob's burger. I think that burger was probably really close to a pound of meat, it was huge and very good. The service was excellent and fast that restaurant being 100% packed.

Sold breakfast spot. When you walk into this place it feel is like you are walking into a diner located in the great smoky mountains. The service is friendly but not really fast. The food is sold thought. The bracon was thick and crisp, the ham was thick and the sausage was tasty. The hash browns are really good. Good place if you are looking for a down home breakfast but be warned it cans get busy on the weekends.

Food and service was up to par. Took my little family to eat for my son birthday dinner and it was such a pleasant time. Their cinnamon french toast tho ... let's just say I wanted more after that last bite lol!

Wow! Food, ambiance, and service - 5+ stars. Our waitress was delightful and kept updating us as our food was cooking! She was very nice and my husband who never says a word about service - said that this is as the best service! The restaurant over exceeded my expectations expectations! I absolutely love all the Mother's Day celebration and the detail to each item, flowers, balloons, free brownie! Management - your credo resonated with me. What a WOW factor!

Cold, expensive mac and cheese with very dry chicken

Black Bear diner is a pretty cute lookin, family place. Nice bear decor, cute merchandise, and the menus being on newspaper is pretty neat, but don't let looks decieve you. Our server, Truce, seemed like a nice guy. But he had brought out the child's food 15 minutes before the adults food. The kid finished his meal way before we got ours. Some families like to eat, you know, TOGETHER. The silverware was absolutely disgusting as you can see from the image of the butter knife I have posted with this review. The mac and cheese was very cold in the center and slightly warm on the outside, almost like it was just stuck in the microwave with the very bland, dry chicken it came with. 20$ for that was absurd. The fruit on the burrito dish and the bread with the mac and cheese shouldn't have been the most flavorful things on our dishes. Our server, Truce, seemed like a nice guy, but he did make us very uncomfortable with his painted nails, feminine way about the lobby, and his little girls bracelets stacked on his wrist. This man also was a little aggressive when I asked about our food coming, his response "it's comin" seemed very striking and quick. Did not feel welcome. On the way out, I noticed a burger being delivered to a table with the cheese not even melted, just slapped on the meat, and the onion rings looking more like funyuns than anything. I hope that table had a better experience than what we did.

The host stand felt cold and unwelcoming, and the overall energy outside was a little off-putting. To be fair, the hostess was polite when she interacted with us directly, but the first impression was not warm. Once we were seated, Miguel turned the whole experience around. Since we are vegetarian, we have to ask extra questions about sauces, stocks, and hidden meat ingredients. Miguel was extremely helpful with navigating the menu and made sure the items with meat stock were removed or avoided. That kind of care matters a lot. The food was also pretty good. I had the South of the Border Omelette, and my wife had the burrito. Both were solid, and Miguel's service made us feel taken care of instead of like we were being difficult for asking questions. Good food, excellent service from Miguel, and a much better experience once we got past the initial welcome.

Being a resident I drop in here about every five years and while consistent in their offerings, it also consistently "meh". We brought our pup and the service from Miguel was attentive and helpful even bringing a bowl of water for our pup. The location and ambiance is quiet and intimate (I suggest sitting outside when it's nice) and is much bugger than it looks. Coffee taste like Folgers and while each plate has a lot of ingredients, it doesn't have a lot of taste. We ordered the Lady Litchfield Omelette and breakfast burrito and while generous in portion the irony of the dishes was interesting. The omelette was chock full of veggies and minimal egg to wrap them, the burrito had a ton of egg and tortilla but minimal ingredients to taste. At the End of the Day I just don't feel like the experience warranted the $16+ price tag per meal. I'll come back in five more years and see if anything has changed.

The Donut Holes were fun, especially with the glaze for dipping. The coffee was okay. The kids' white mac and cheese needed more cheese, which feels like a pretty important detail when "cheese" is half the name. I ordered the Florentine Benedict, and while it was good, it was not something I would be raving about afterward. Overall, Haymaker was a solid breakfast/brunch stop. Now I have the time since I won't be able to eat the rest of my food. I ordered over the phone and was told the food would take 15 minutes. I ordered 5 pieces of the Fish Fry and double fries and my girlfriend got the Hatch Chili Burger and upgraded to Sweet Potato fries for $2+ dollars. I live 2 minutes away down the street. I left 20 minutes after my order was made. When I get there I tell the cashier I have a to-go order and he has me pay. After I finish paying, he walks away without saying a word to me and starts sweeping the floor. I just wait and we make eye contact multiple times and he doesn't say anything. I assumed my food was ready because it had already been 25 minutes since I ordered. I realized maybe it's not ready, my mistake, I sit down in the table near the counter. He's watching me sit down and the literal exact moment I sit down he yells out that my order is ready. And when I get up to go get it, that's when he starts putting it in the bag. He doesn't go to the kitchen or anything so I don't know if my order was just sitting there this whole time and he was just waiting for me to sit down for some reason? I'm in no rush so I don't care its been 35 minutes at this point so I give him the benefit of the doubt still, and move on. Stacks the tartar sauce as he's trying to put everything in the bag and the stack falls over and a sauce falls on the floor. He looks at me and looks at the floor then he looks around the sauce drawer and puts another 3rd sauce which I assumed was another tartar sauce. It ended up being ranch. I wouldn't have cared if he just told me that he was out of tartar sauce but I guess trying to deceive me with ranch is a better option. At this point I would've still given a 4 STAR or even 5 STAR review if the food held up because it's a local business and I don't want some weird bald guy deter people from good food. After my 2 minute drive home we opened our containers that held extremely soggy and half cold sweet potato fries. I ordered double fries with my fish so my pile of fries were double soggy and partly cold too. I ate 2 pieces of Fish Fry and they were alright. I would've ordered them again and I was excited because I had a huge piece of fish fry I was going to have next. However I realized it was 2 pieces of fish fry stuck together causing the stuck sides to be soggy and have semi uncooked breading. The biggest piece I was excited for was the biggest disappointment. The only saving grace was the Hatch Chili Burger. The beef patties were soft and cooked well, unlike the last 3 pieces of fish fry. We spent $40 dollars on the entire thing. And we only ate the burger and 2 fish from the meals. Super convenient location for food that I will be completely avoiding in the future. TLDR: Bad service if bald guy is there. Was told 15 minutes but food took around 30-35 minutes. Let's you guess if your food is ready or not after he has you pay. Waits for you to sit down to tell you it's ready when it was possibly just sitting infront of him. Drops tartar sauce and tries to sneak ranch instead of just telling me that he can't/doesn't wanna replace it. Get home, half of order is soggy&cold. ALL fries including upcharged fries were soggy. Only Hatch Chili Burger was good. SPENT $40 and it was 2 meals that were less than mediocre overall. Normally I can ignore most bad service/attitudes but this dude sucked and doesn't like to communicate with customers. Below are photos of what I thought was a "big piece" of fish fry flipped around and then after I separate the two pieces.

What truly sets Cracker Barrel apart, though, goes far beyond the great food and charming country store. Today, I witnessed something genuinely special. Caydence, one of the amazing and friendly cashiers here, took the time to walk an older gentleman to his car, helped him in, and stayed to make sure he was safely on his way before returning to her duties. It wasn't just the act itself--it was the care behind it. She walked at his pace, engaged him in conversation, and showed a level of patience, respect, and kindness that you don't see every day. Moments like that leave a lasting impression. No matter how long the wait might be, I'll continue bringing my grandson here. The food is consistently delicious, but it's the genuine compassion and human connection that make this place unforgettable. Caydence--thank you for being such a beautiful example of kindness. The restaurant itself was clean, including the restrooms, which is always appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite meet expectations. My burger came out with lettuce that was wilted and greasy from the hamburger meat, which took away from the overall taste. My husband ordered the hamburger steak, and while it was cooked, the portion felt small and it lacked flavor. On a positive note, the green side salad was fresh and enjoyable, and the iced tea was just right. Overall, great service and a clean environment, but the food quality needs some improvement to match the experience.
