My mom's tuna sandwich and salad was served on a hot plate as though it was under a heating lamp. Her tuna was basically mayonnaise with a bit of tuna in it. It leaked all over. The bread was dried out and stiff. She actually choked on it. My pancakes were stiff and it was obvious it sat under the heat lamp. My egg was rubber. I could pick it up and it didn't bend. First time dining at Black Bear Diner on 3/29/24. We got seated fairly quickly and got our drinks ordered. We waited about 15-20 minutes before our host came over to greet us. I had to go up to the counter to let them know we were ready to order. Turned out, there's only 1 person taking orders for the area we were seated at. Our host, Kayla was friendly and attentive. She gave good service which is why I'm giving 4 stars. The food on the other hand was meh, we would give the food 3 stars. I ordered BLT which was good but the chili soup had too much beans and barely any soup. My husband ordered the tuna melt and he said the flavor was good but it didn't have enough tuna. He enjoyed the clam chowder. We ordered Alfredo pasta with chicken tenders and that was just ok. We also ordered chicken tenders and waffles and my daughter enjoyed that. My son ordered the ribs and chicken and he enjoyed that as well. The ambience was nostalgic. I think the wait took a long time to put in our order, otherwise, our experience was good. The entrance to the Black Bear diner in Goodyear is very cute. It has benches made from wood carved like a bear. We were greeted with a welcome as we walked in the door. Our waitress Kelly was very attentive my coffee cup didn't get below one half before she was filling it up. I had the corned beef hash and eggs my daughter had the sweet cream waffle. Both breakfasts were very large. I ended up bringing some home. This is the first time I've been in this restaurant and I will be back again because of the warm and welcoming service. This place is a hot mess. Service is snail pace slow. First server grabbed drinks for the table and served cold coffee. Asked if we needed time and we said yes. Never saw her again about 15 min later, it felt like longer, we had a new server. Maria, was friendly enough but barely checked up on us and our food took about 45 minutes to receive and when we finally received the food it was not hot so it had been sitting ready for a while before we got it. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars rather than 1 is because of Kathy. She was the only silver lining of the whole experience. This restaurant has a cozy cabin atmosphere. With a friendly staff and great service this is a perfect place to stop by for breakfast. They have unlimited coffee (hot or iced), big portions, bakery items, and souvenirs. We got a breakfast scramble bowl, breakfast sliders, biscuits and gravy breakfast, and waffle breakfast. My husband and I were so sad when we left BBD. The chain used to be about flavor and fresh and a special experience every time. It was so bland and nothing about anything was fresh. It was like we walked into a Denny's or Shari's. I had the chicken fried streak that was horrible. It tasted like a patty you'd buy in a grocery store freezer and the gravy lacked any flavor at all. Even worse was the day or two old hash browns. Not at all edible I really don't know what happens here, but this had nothing about what Black Bear Diner started as so many years ago. While we found ourself in the area today we stopped for a late lunch. We have been to Black Bear Diner a few times for breakfast, but not this location. We were pleased to see there wasn't a wait. This area is pretty busy since it's right off interstate 10. When we walked inside we were greeted quickly and seated at a booth. The menu has a great selection of pretty much anything you could want from breakfast, lunch dinner or desserts. Breakfast is served all day which is awesome. My favorite is the California Benedict for sure. Today I chose the pesto salmon which came with mashed potato's, gravy and green beans with bacon mixed in, yum. My husband and son both ordered the country fried steak. It comes with two sides and a salad. It also comes with some delicious corn bread. Everything came out fairly quick. Our longest wait the entire time was probably for our drinks at the beginning of the meal. My salmon was cooked perfect. The pesto sauce was freaking amazing and under it was some sliced cherry tomato and spinach. I wasn't sure at first about the plate coming with the mashed potatoes and country gravy, but it paired perfect. Our side salads were crispy and dressing good. The portions are so large and we left too full for dessert today. The pies looked delicious. All in all it was a good visit. read more

I don't usually do reviews but I was shocked how bad this place was... went for Thanksgiving Turkey dinner. The starter salad came in a to go container? Main meal was to come with corn muffin, beans, turkey , mashed potato's , cranberry sauce and stuffing... Ours had no vegetables, no corn muffin and no cranberry sauce, just some cold boxed mash potato's and a bit of room temperature turkey and stuffing ( boxed I think)....at least I didn't miss out on much because what we did get wasn't very good... It also didn't come with an apology , which it should have but our server didn't seem to care. I wish I had taken a picture to post but I didn't think about it at the time... If you look at my past reviews I either leave a compliment or compliant. This warrants a complaint. I get it, with inflation you have rising prices but that doesn't excuse giving hard boiled eggs for your eggs Benedict. I ordered to go but I never seen eggs becoming hard boiled when they're supposed to be poached. Literally paid $15 for something I didn't want to make myself and that's what I got. The guy I was with said "this is the best waffle I have ever had." And this guy knows food. Great biscuits. Nice wait staff and overall a very good breakfast experience. Witnessed it first hand, but that's an internal management issue so whatever. Main gripe, kitchen view, from what I can see sitting at the counter, is DISGUSTING. Place needs a serious deep clean and degreasing, also an internal management issue. Workers should be reminded that even though you're wearing gloves, whatever you touch, like your FACE OR HAIR, is now on the gloves and they're dirty. It was a cold and rainy day (believe it or not, we have those here in So. AZ). After a not-too-long time waiting, we were seated and well attended to.
