My fave is THE Hobo Omelette with grits, pancakes and a pumpkin iced coffee! The kids love it- your menu is newspaper style so you get the nostalgia of traditional dining. April 15, 2022 11:00 am Me and my wife were sitting at the bar and the waitress "TRACY" starts taking our order. I literally just ask her "what can I replace eggs with"? She says nothing and that they don't replace eggs. So I told her that I can't eat eggs, she replies well we can just take the eggs off. I reply so you want me to pay for food that I was not going to receive, she says "we do not substitute eggs at all. So I told to give me a minute to change my order. While waiting my wife asks another waitress "Priscilla", who said that she could easily substitute eggs for hash-browns. Tracy walks by and says in Spanish "solo esta enjado" (he is just mad). I told her that you are not the only one who can speak Spanish. My wife tells her in Spanish that my husband was not mad at all, he was asking you a question and you cut him off and said no. The reason why I can not eat eggs is due to receiving a gun shot wound to the lower abdomen while serving in IRAQ. During the 13 surgeries I lost some of my large intestines, which now if I eat dairy products I will get extremely sick. But..... "Priscilla came in like wonder women, her attitude was awesome and she took care of us with no problem!!!! Priscilla really treated us like actually people, thank you so much, we were two seconds from walking out!!! As we were sitting there waiting for our food I was noticing that the manager (Jeffery) was snapping at a couple employees. The reason why was the restaurant was just too busy. We went here on a Sunday afternoon around 1. For a table of four, it was a thirty min wait. You give them your number and they text you when your table is ready and you can text them back to confirm too (meaning you can go shopping at BBB and walk back when your table is ready, if you really wanted to.) They have slings for infant carriers, high chairs, and booster seats for your kids and can accommodate small parties and large parties as well. We've been here with just my husband and I and here with a table of ten. The wait time is only slightly shorter with four than with ten. Lol. There is a nice seating area inside, between the front doors and dining area, and a waiting area outside. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day and have an ample selection, making this perfect for large parties with differing tastes. There are booths and tables indoors for seating and special seasonal menus/dessert offerings. Everything we've had has been good. On our most recent trip, My husband got the steak and eggs, a side of cheesy grits, toast, and fruit. I got the brisket eggs Benedict with country potatoes, cheesey grits, and fruit. My son got the kids cheese pizza and a fruit cup instead of fries. I did ask for no melons since they are too hard for him to eat. We got extra grapes and a few slices of strawberries. For his dessert, we chose strawberries with no whip cream instead of the ice cream choice. He loves the fresh fruit options (as did I) and he ate half of his pizza. Both adult dishes were great. I came here to eat with my sister and my mom on a Sunday afternoon. I really wanted breakfast and we saw that Black Bear Diner served breakfast all day. I was excited to have it in the middle of the day because I love breakfast food! The inside of the restaurant is neat! It had a comfortable, log cabin feel. I also liked the menus. They looked like newspapers and my sister liked the bear paws that were printed on the plates and napkins. I ordered the french toast with eggs and bacon. My sister got the same thing as me only with sausage and my mom got the chicken fried steak. The french toast was delicious, my sister and I really enjoyed it! The amount of food on my plate was just the perfect amount. My mom said her food was okay but that she's going to get the breakfast next time. The only reason I'm giving this review a 4 is because our waiter didn't check up on us that much. There weren't many people in the restaurant at the time we went. First time visit to this establishment. Read mixed reviews but still wanted to try for myself. The place was busy busy busy so we decided to sit at the counter. Brenda was our waitress and she was phenomenal. She worked tirelessly to make sure her customers had their drinks filled and met every request asked of her. Food was so good we came back the next morning. The manager was helping out as needed at the counter and with to go orders. It was perfectly orchestrated. It was extremely busy on a Friday afternoon, prossibly due to spring break. When we arrived around 12, the wait was around 20 minutes. We were seated at an appropriate time but the service took very long as they seemed very understaffed. It took forever to get our waters and we could barely find the server when we needed her. The ambiance is very similar to most diners but the pancakes were good. They were slightly sweetened and extremely fluffy. I wished they provided more syrup, which wouldn't have been a problem if the server was easily attainable. But because she was hard to locate, I had to finish half a pancake without any syrup. The vanilla cold brew I ordered was really the highlight of the meal, but it was mostly ice. My partner got the patty melt and it wasn't great. The amount of meat provided was decent but the lack of sauce made it dry. A chipotle mayo would've gone well with it. The fries were cooked well and well seasoned, which saved the plate. My friend also had a hash brown and it was plain and unseasoned. He barely touched it. I would suggest only coming here for the pancakes and cold brew and nothing else. read more

This place is basically a glorified waffle house. (Which I enjoy the food at W.H. better). Went on a weekend morning and OMG it was so packed. Had to wait about 25 minutes for a table. The waiting area is not very big so people are packed inside in a big crowd. The people that have finished eating can barely get to the register to pay and exit. They have to wade through the mob of people, rubbing up against everyone trying to squeeze by. I like my personal space so this gave me major anxiety. The food was good. But you can't really mess up breakfast food. Waffles, eggs, & toast are all pretty universally prepared anywhere you order it. I was disappointed with the "Tri Tip" Dip Sandwich. I was expecting actual Tri Tip steak sliced on the sandwich but the meat was nothing more than "Steakums"/Philly Cheese steak meat. (It was a Philly Cheese steak sandwich served with beef broth for dipping. I don't know know they they just don't call it that on the menu instead of trying to make it sound fancier than what it is) I will give it to them that for as busy and crowded as they were the service was good. We've ordered pick up and door dashed from black bear. When I went to pick up, I went to the area where it says pick up orders since I didn't know my food would be sitting on a bench in the open. The girl at the register was trying to fix something so I stood in front of her waiting for her to finish so I could get my order. She didn't look up or say one word to me. But as soon as another woman walked up next to me, the girl behind the register asked how she could help her. When we started ordering through door dash, I started noticing the quality was getting worse and worse. Our food was always cold by the time it arrived. Not surprising since they leave orders waiting to be picked up in the lobby on a bench. One time our order was missing my husbands oatmeal but he didn't really care. Today we were seated immediately, shortly after 9am. By the time we were paying out, the lobby was jam-packed. Having just experienced the deliciousness that is Black Bear Diner, I understand why so many people wait. First, let's talk about the building. There's bear stuff everywhere. Bear puns. Bear paraphernalia. A plethora of bears and bear-related items. The rest of the place looks like a log cabin. Totes adorbs. This cheesy gal was in cheesy heaven. For reasons not entirely known to me, I prefer my breakfast food in a bowl. For other reasons, also unknown, most places don't offer this option on their menu so I'm usually the jerk who "customizes" their order within an inch of its life. Black Bear Diner offers a ScramBOWL (actual menu item name) that has all the breakfast things a girl could conceivably wish for in a breakfast. Bacon. Sausage. Eggs. Cheese. Potatoes. Jalapeños. I think there were onions and bell peppers on the menu but I left those off. Realistically the "bowl" was just a semi-deep plate, but I was pleased. The other half of my party of 2 (in breakfast and in life) ordered a biscuits and gravy situation that was, to put it mildly, generous. The biscuits are so big they could easily be mistaken for...something larger than a biscuit...and the bacon that came with it was perfect. You read that correctly - PERFECT. Funny story: as our sweet server came to top our coffee off midway through our meal, I noticed her name tag said Katy. Apparently my mind reacted before my common sense and I asked, "Is your name REALLY Katy?" I can't imagine how many times a day she has to have the same conversation: "Yes, and my kids go to Katy so there's a bunch of stuff in our house with my name on it and it's really trippy." Guys - I asked the question so you don't have to. If you get a rad, fun server who calls you "darlin" or "sweetie" and her name tag says Katy, the answer is yes.
