Wonderful service - great waitstaff all the way around. Lots of hustle from all waitstaff and the manager was on top of everything. Our waitress was polite, quick and had a great attitude - even The waitresses at the surrounding tables had great attitudes and were very patient with elderly and disabled patrons. The food was also a 4 out of 5. I got a wonderful chicken club sandwich, it was hot and delicious and I got enough fries for 3 people well. Food was good and our server Kim did a good job. Place seemed to be clean and was not busy at all. When we walked in we where not greeted by anyone. Was about 4, 5 mins before the host walked up to set us. Then she walked away fast to our table. As we walked up to our table she was walking away saying your server will be with you. This is a truck stop diner serving the Standard American Diet of greasy meats, over cooked potatoes, and calorie laden gravies. There was nothing for the Vegan or vegetarian palate. Their vegetables in the salad were without flavor and not ripened to an acceptable level. The cantaloupe and melon in the fruit dish were hard and, again, without flavor. I will compliment them on their slightly above average service. Also, we were not rushed to order or exit. In conclusion, this is not a place I would recommend to health-conscious persons. Had dinner 3/13/2022 and as usual it was good. They were quite busy and I believe short staffed. Chantel sat us and was our waitress and did a very competent job. My wife had the chicken fried steak and I had the pot roast. Both were exceptional. Chantel did a good job of attending to our needs. I especially enjoyed the fact that she made eye contact every time she went by. Everything was top notch except the Banana creme pie and it left a little to be desired. We were driving through the area and stopped here for dinner. Service was quick. I ordered the bbq ribs and shrimp and my gf ordered the tri tip and shrimp. The food came quickly. The deep fried shrimp was fine. The ribs were terrible, as were the grits, cole slaw, baked potato and green beans. The tri tip was edible but I wouldn't be surprised if Santa Maria was rolling in her grave and Black Bear might also be hearing from her lawyer. The bathrooms were clean. Jody the waitress was the best!!!! Served us with warmth and kindness. I got the cinnamon French toast and my friend got the veggie omelette, so delicious!! We paid for pie at the entrance (also so yummy) and some how lost my debit card, Jody and another waitress (didn't catch her name) helped us look for it and when we thought we lost hope Jody comes out to our car to tell us someone found it at the store beside the diner. This was our fourth time visiting a black bear diner. This particular black bear had not been open for much more than a week. This visit was not favorable. as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by a tweaker that showed us to our table. The hostess introduced us to the menu which is quite extensive. Our waiter greeted us served our beverages and I went to get the silverware out of the napkin and found bumpy substance on my spoon.Notice the silverware was a good quality but had water spots forever all over it, I ordered a cup of hot water to take the water spots off and confirm that they were indeed water spots rather than dirt, I was lucky it was only water spots. My spouse had a huevos rancheros, I had the the eggs benedict with tomato avocado and spinach, had I known they would serve us hollandaise substance that came from a bag mixed with water I would have never ordered the eggs benedict. My spouse said the huevos rancheros was just bland as well whatever. while waiting for our meals and consuming the meals we noticed the new staff had not really been chosen well, there was this one guy that was supposed to be clearing tables I would imagine that had no clue what the hell she was doing, our waiter could not stop sweating, it was very off-putting. Went for breakfast with family and it did not disappoint. First of all excellent attentive server by a very nice young lady who met all of our requests. The restaurant itself is great with the exception of the big mouthed rude waitress Kalani. She will talk crap about her customers within earshot of them and then lie to your face. Worst Black Bear Diner I have been to. I was so excited to bring my wife since I've been several other locations including the Porterville, Buena Park and Torrance location. All have lived up to the name and it's reputation. However this location is just bad. Aside from the servers being inexperienced, the food that was available was horrible. They ran out of baked potatoes, certain pies, pot pie and thousand island! How do you run out of salad dressing?! The brisket was dry. The grilled chicken pasta was bland, the Mac n cheese seemed straight from a box.
