Black Bear Diner is one of my preferred local breakfast establishments. I signed up for their emails and they sent me a free breakfast! It was a Bear's Choice Breakfast that comes with your choice of eggs, bacon or sausage and pancakes. I asked for strawberries and whipped cream for my pancakes too. I enjoyed my breakfast and something about their coffee is so good. A suggestion I have is to make the egg portions bigger. My breakfast was great, but there was a really small serving of eggs. They also have a kid's menu that includes a sundae or strawberries if you order after 11am. I want to recognize our server Flordeliza, she was so friendly and attentive. She has excellent customer service, and we hope she's our server next time we are there. The hostess sat us, even though I asked her to seat the other couple first cause she was rude and - well well let's just say- she was rude bad rude Anyway, everybody else of the workers made such a difference here- I witnessed one of the workers helping and older woman with her menu and sat there reading with her. Whatever it was, she seemed a little irritated by our presence. We went ahead and we ordered our food. Nothing was wrong. We requested refills and the things that we needed, but I was a little bummed that she didn't anticipate more of our needs. I can't say that I recall her name. Our experience altogether wasn't real memorable, except for the fact that the little annoyance is got to me. And it wasn't even so much that I was annoyed, it's our waitress. She seemed annoyed. Like I said, she seemed to warm up to us toward the end of our meal. Maybe she thought we were gonna be more trouble. I'm not sure. Nothing was wrong with our meal. The food is fine. Everything was OK. It wasn't quite the experience that I was hoping for, but it wasn't terrible either. I can't say that this is gonna be the first place. I think them to go to for breakfast but it's not the last either. Free parking is available in the lot out front. Just be careful when you park. I drink mine black, and Jenn kept it hot and kept checking my cup, which I genuinely appreciated. That said, the coffee itself tasted a little scorched, like it had been sitting on the warmer for a while. Small note, my fork was bent when I sat down, and it got replaced, not a huge deal, just a minor oversight. Service-wise, Jenn was great. Got the volcano, which has bacon sausage and eggs, and more pancakes that one should eat at a time. Also got a side of cheesy bacon grits. Everything was delicious. I can't express how much I love Black Diner. I went to my first one back in 2017 during a family reunion in Oregon. 4 hours on the road again, this time to Vegas. As soon as we get checked in I searched YELP for nearby restaurants, it was fate. Delicious food as always. I always get the deluxe tri-tip sandwich. It comes out piping hot with warm fresh ciabatta bread, hot ooey gooey steak, cheese, grilled onions. Hot french fries and real ranch that doesn't move. My family and I frequent the Black Bear Diner on Sahara for breakfast, but no more. This afternoon for St Patrick's Day we wanted to try the Tropicana location for Corned Beef and Cabbage. I ordered and prepaid online for pickup on the order.blackbeardiner.com site. I sent my husband with my credit card (per the instructions online you must present ID and or the card)to pick it up. When he arrived he said the hostess said that someone had already picked up the order. My husband explained that we had not. The hostess was insistent and argued that we had picked it up already. Another hostess stepped in to apologize for that hostess being rude because she overheard the conversation and asked for the manager, Cynthia, to assist. Cynthia insisted that we had not paid yet and they gave our food to us already? My husband called me on the phone to ask if I had paid for it already, so I verified on my bank account that yes it was paid and directly to Black Bear Diner. They refused to offer any apologies or resolution. My husband got rightly frustrated and asked for a receipt or refund or something because they would not admit to giving our food to someone else by accident, who obviously did not show proof that they ordered and/or paid for the food. Instead of admitting they made a mistake they told my husband to leave or they would call the police as though he was a thief. He only wanted a refund for food we did not get and of course got more upset because Cynthia became nasty. I also sent him a screenshot of my bank charge to show them it was paid. Cynthia obviously did not want to handle it and told my husband to never come back. Their rules stipulate that you must show ID to pick up your food so who is at fault here. I called in after my husband left to order food elsewhere. I talked with Cynthia and asked her why she threatened to call the police on my husband who was just trying to pick up food we paid for. She said that her rude hostess should not be talked to like that even though the accusations were for us only. She claimed that it' was my husband and it was all on video. If it were on video then you will see that my husband walked in calmly and got treated horribly before becoming upset. Why did the other hostess apologize to him? Also on video is the person that took our food. How about an investigation on who exactly is stealing? Cynthia hung up on me after several attempts to resolve the matter. What kind of manager does that to paying customers who simply want the food they paid for. We are reasonable people who just want the food we ordered or a refund. After being hung up on several more times, I finally reached a very polite person named Lisa by phone. She explained that we had ordered on Grub Hub. Although she was the only reasonable person we spoke to, I did not order from GrubHub. I ordered as pickup, not delivery and directly from the site. She said that even if you order pickup it still gets picked up by GrubHub. That does not make any sense. How would a customer know GrubHub is to pick up the food and not the customer per the selections on the site. GrubHub is not mentioned. How would GrubHub know any of my information, address etc if that were true. I received an email receipt from BBD not GrubHub, who never delivered the order by the way as she claimed. So who is the thief? I bet the video could tell you that as well. A disputed transaction is in order. This left a nasty taste in my mouth. Came here for breakfast on the recommendation of my MIL and it was only 5 mins away from our hotel. It was a weekday so there was no wait. The service was good. Our server accidentally charged us twice for a cup of coffee but was able to get it taken off & other than that she was great. The whole place is decked out in black bear decor, hence the name.
