This is a difficult review to write. I absolutely love the sweet tea here. That is unfortunately all I love here. The wait for the server to come to the table once you are seated is a very LONG time. The wait for the food is average time. The wait for the server to come back and check on you, bring to go boxes or the ticket is a VERY long time. The food is plentiful but not very good. The prices seem high for frozen Sysco food (saw the truck bring the food while in the parking lot). For breakfast for 1 person with a drink and then a side of toast and fruit $40. read more

Went in today for lunch and got told that it would be a 40-45 minute wait. I ended up having to wait longer than that because the kitchen was backed up. How is that our fault? The manager should be able to strategize how to run the day smoothly with the employees so they don't become stressed on everyone waiting. The food is pretty good, service is good, but the smell is bad. My family and I went there recently, and the room to the left smells really bad like a sewer. For sure something is wrong with the pipes. Luckily we were weren't seated there, but the smell lingers through the whole restaurant. It's just not as strong in the main dining area than in the first dining room. This isn't a new thing. My husband and I went there in October and it still smelled like sewage, just not as strong. Something needs to be done if it's not already in the process. Because it's very disgusting, and to have that smell where food is being served is not the best idea lol read more

Our server Felicia did an amazing job even though she was the ONLY employee working out front. She greeted people as they arrived, seated them, got their drinks, took their orders, refilled drinks, served food and bussed tables, took payments on checks when customers were done ON HER OWN and did so in a timely, courteous fashion . There was a young man standing behind the counter (turns out he was an interim manager) who my husband took his coffee cup up to and asked for a refill because she had 4 tables come in when thin like 5 minutes. The man ignored my husband's request 3 Times! Finally my husband asked "Can't you give her a break and help her out? She's busting her ass out here by herself with ho help and you won't fill a coffee cup? Are you serious?" Only at that time did he fill the cup. The only reason I'm leaving three stars is solely for our server, otherwise it would be one. The food was ice cold when we received it and it was not edible, it just tasted so bad. This location is a complete disappointment! First and last time... I asked for my Has brows lightly done and they came out completely wrong. I asked them lightly done once again the waitress responded that they were lightly in the middle. Like excuse me? Was i supposed to just eat the middle and pick top and bottom layer off. What a joke! This is a really good Black Bear Diner restaurant with GREAT Customer service! From the time we walked in the hospitality felt so warm and welcoming. Our server kept checking on us making sure we were good. Then the general manager I believe he was a really tall man who was also really nice came to make sure we enjoyed our food. He even fixed my husbands bill, my husband thought his steak meal was a certain price but that was the Monday thru Friday price but that General Manager was like no let me honor it and make sure i make it right for you. Brand new diner. Lots of parking. Very clean. Very friendly staff. Portions are huge and food is very good! We Went to a BBD in Manteca a while back and the service and food were both equally bad. The server was unfriendly and unhelpful. The experience Left a bad taste and we've not been to another BBD until now. We've been to this establishment before as well as the one in Modesto and this last visit was less then exciting. There is something seriously wrong with the employees here. My wife says its not their fault and that it is management that is failing to keep the employees trained properly. When we walked in, there were already customers lined up at the register trying to pay their bills but no employee in sight at the register. We waited nearby to be seated for about 4 minutes when a young male employee showed up but instead of handling the paying customers first, he decided to seat us while informing those wanting to pay that he's be right back. After being seated with the menus, we normally expect a waitperson to come by the table within 2 or 3 minutes to take our drink order. But in never happened for 5 or 6 minutes when we were discussing just walking out. The waitress showed up apologizing that she didn't see us. Really? We were in your assigned section and there were probably less than 15 total customers in the restaurant at the time. How could she not see us? I told my wife to make sure she didn't order coffee because I doubt if the waitress would ever come by to offer a refill. She took our order and the food fortunately arrived promptly. No complaints about the food quality or quantity but the turkey dinner did seem just slightly on the cool side. Would we ever go back there? Probably but the establishment in Modesto would be our first choice now even though it is farther away. Picked up a to-go order this evening. Had to sit and wait 20 minutes passed my pick up time. And the food was horrible. Ribeye was over cooked and tasted only like onion powder. Baked potato was also over cooked and didn't even come with butter. Maybe if a waitress hadn't been in the kitchen flirting and horsing around with the cooks, it would have been better.
