Came by while on a trip to Utah and we were so happy with everything. Black Bear Diners are always cozy and the food is really good. This particular place looked brand new and it turns out they just opened it a few weeks ago. Thought it was weird that it had a low star rating but after reading the other reviews on here I just had to leave my comments and hopefully help out. This was a fantastic family dining experience. On the way in, we checked out the gift shop and loaded up the jukebox with some of our favorite songs. The servers was super friendly and everyone was so welcoming. I had the tri tip dip sandwich and a salad with balsamic. The dressing was insanely good. Tasted like it's got a teriyaki twist to it. The meat in the sandwich was seared and full of flavor and the bread was nice and crusty, perfect for dipping. My family also tried a classic American cheeseburger, a pot pie, the cheeseburger salad, chicken fingers and onion rings, and a kids pizza. Everyone loved the food! Our bill was around $60 which was really reasonable for 7 people. What a great place. Keep up the good work y'all! read more

Terrible service from Nancy the manager. Never been spoken to so rudely for asking about a charge on my receipt. Then after she spoke to me the way she did she walked away, and the poor teenager working the register said "she's like that to everyone, including all the staff". I told him I'm sorry he has to deal with that also and that I'd leave a review, he said "yes please do". Anyway I would highly advise anyone to not go to that location. read more

Unfortunately that's where the good ends. - ordered hash browns cooked with onions and crispy; got crispy, un-salted, un-peppered hash - ordered eggs benedict; egg was poached until hard boiled and Hollandaise sauce was a shade of light brown and greasy. Went to the Black Bear and as we were nearing the end of our meal , they sat an entire family not more than 1 foot away from us . In complaing to the manager, she told us that the distance restrictions were lifted today . The entire other half of the restaurant was empty . However, the money hungry owner was not going to maintain any semblance of social didtancing . Even if social distancing was restricted, to put people 1 foot was from us was unconscionable!! I have yet to have a decent meal or service at any Black Bear location. The only time I go there is when I am meeting family that want to eat there. The service was the same atthis locatition as to what I have experienced at other locations. From the hostess, to the servers to the cashier, evryone seems put out that you are there and that they are doing you a huge favor but serving you and taking your money. I am lover of Chicken Fried Steak for breakfast. So I ordered theirs with the red potatoes, a biscuit, eggs over easy and a side of salsa. This was hands down thee worst chicken fried steak I have every tasted. Weird flavor and super oily. I had 3 bites and couldn't stand to eat anymore. The biscuit as I have said before are disappointing. It's like a cross between a dinner rool and a biscuit. Eggs work cooked great and I do like their red potatoes. But, that's it. I've loved eating at black bear, but the Washington Utah location leaves much to be to desired. My family has had issues with our orders coming out wrong, (I.e. rare steak when we ordered medium, tuna melt with little filling) our food has arrived to our table lukewarm or tasting old on multiple occasions. $64 for a family of four. The story goes that 2 hungry men from California founded the first Black Bear Diner in Northern California. Well... leave it up to two hungry men to come up with such a huge and innovated classic American dishes. I was not familiar with the Black Bear Diner chain but I am sold now. We stopped here for breakfast and this particular location is right off the freeway. The menu looks like a newspaper. Loved the props with a little history of the place. Great idea. I ordered the mild Italian sausage with two eggs, a creamy serving of grits and you can get a pancake or french toast, or upgrade to a stuffed blackberry french toast like I did. Upon arrival of our edibles , presentation was great despite the enormous amounts of food. The mild sausage is was actually pretty good and the grits reminded me of when I was growing up eating breakfast at grandma's. I like mine sweet so I added butter and sugar. The stuffed blackberry french toasts is more of a squared croissant cut into small rectangles... Idon't know... look at the pictures. It was ok. I think I should have gone for the regular french toasts instead. But if you like that croissant kind of consistency go for it. Such an interesting experience here. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito. The first one came out with mostly jalapeño peppers in it even though that wasn't listed in the description of it. Then the second one came out with no potatoes and refried beans in it... refried beans was not in the description either. Just very odd. My meal came with country potatoes. They didn't come out until we were done with our meal and they looked less than appetizing. See picture. My daughters and I were on a day trip and stopped here to eat before driving home. At first glance, the building looks brand new. Very nice. But when we walked in, the carpet was filthy. Absolutely covered in food. I don't understand why restaurants continue to have carpeting when it's so hard to keep clean. Anyway. My daughter ordered the tri-tip. It was overcooked and so tough that even holding it with her hands and gnawing on it, it was too tough for her to eat or enjoy. It did come with a choice of soup or salad and the chicken noodle soup was really good. So was the cornbread muffin they brought with it. I ordered some kind of loaded breakfast bowl thing. The gravy was so bland and cold that enough salt and pepper were not available to save it. Also, the potatoes tasted off. My daughter thought they tasted freezer burnt. I just thought they tasted old or spoiled or something. I don't know how they managed to mess up potatoes. Half the bowl was potatoes, so I didn't eat much. The server was a nice girl who offered to have it remade, so kudos for her for that, but we were almost ready to leave by then and I didn't want to wait. The peppers, onions, ham, bacon, cheese and eggs in the bowl were edible, so I just ate that. We used the restroom before leaving and the toilet in the handicapped stall in the women's restroom was not even connected to the floor! It moved when I sat! That is a huge safety hazard! The single star is for the server we had. She was a young, small girl and was very nice and professional. Restaurant itself gets zero stars. read more

Came here today for Valentines, they had a Valentines special for 2 people. Ribeye, 12 Scampi, mashed potatoes, seasoned vegetables, soup or salad and a dessert to share (chocolate cherry pie or strawberry shortcake). Granted it was super busy and we went in late because we knew it would be busy. Service was SLOW! Took 15-20 minutes for drink orders. Food came out faster but our orders were constantly messed up. 8 shrimps instead of 4, forgot the scampi, forgot the dessert. Then the strawberry shortcake dessert was made with their biscuit instead of shortcake. It was nasty. No accommodations from the waitress or the cashier who asked how it was. I explained everything. Beware newest location in Washington! I ordered the Eggs Benedict. I was so excited. We have eaten so many times at the original St. George location! I LOVE their classic Eggs Benedict. My always get the California style with tomatoes, avocado and spinach! When we arrived the server was training someone. No big deal my wife has been in the food and beverage service business for 30+ years! We ordered what we always order at the original restaurant. When the food came, it was 2 California style. I'm like nope sorry I want the classic. The training server said no that's classic. I said no it's not. So they took it back and recooked it. It came over to the table. Again the same!! California style. Now I'm irritated! The training server keeps saying that it's the classic. Im like can see the menu. I say ok show me the ingredients to the classic!!! Now I'm mad!! Manager comes over agrees with me and they are going make it a 3rd time. This is NOT the servers fault! Of the cook. IT's training! The original restaurant runs like a fine engine! But I keep talking cause I'm mad and the manager tells me to be quiet or she kick me out! Never been kick out before but no one has ever talked to me like this woman. Servers and cooks did their job just NOT trained! Don't know the menu. Manger needs training also!! People right next to us kept saying they felt sorry for us! Then I was so upset that someone was shaking their finger at me, that when my food finally came my appetite was gone! My wife was done! It was not the best experience I've ever had! I had sworn off black bear after moving from Salt Lake a year ago and eating at the St. George location multiple times. When the washington location opened my husband begged me to go, so we did. And boy was I impressed! We have gone at least 4 times now to this location and the wait has always been short, the service has been great (really, the employees at this one may be the best I've ever seen at a BB) and the food has been amazing as well. Comes out hot, fresh and tasting amazing. I had noticed that my pancake was harder on the bottom than usual but the taste was the same. I would definitely recommend THIS location read more

I'm local to Black Bear Diner and have been to this location over a dozen times since it opened in July. At first I gave it a rave review. And then I downgraded it to just "meh". I had several service issues in a row and I was tired of it. But it's so close to where I live that I started going again, and I'm happy to report that I have not had any issues in the past few weeks. I think the food is excellent and varied. The service has improved. The wait time is short or non-existent (though I drive past it multiple times a day and have seen the parking lot overflowing on occasion). Food was okay but the service was absolutely terrible. It took over 1.5 hours to get our food and we didn't get any refills. It was a Monday night and they weren't very busy which made it worse. Best word to describe this place: kitschy. If you're not familiar, that means cliche, bordering on tacky. It is probably exactly what you would expect from a place right off the highway in southern Utah adjacent to a gas station. Service was a 4, atmosphere is a 4 (we sat outside on the patio on a nice sunny morning), food is a 3. If you are vegan and or gluten free, good luck finding something substantial here. Being both, my one and only option for breakfast was oatmeal. Which was fine but not very substantial to keep my energy up before a day of hiking Zions. They do have avocado toast but no gluten free bread, so oatmeal it was. It was fine but absolutely nothing special. It is a convenient location to stop off and eat and was pretty fast but I would not come back here because it's simply not my taste and their menu is quite limited if you have dietary restrictions. read more

We ate at Black Bear today at the Washington Parkway exit in St George for breakfast. We came to this location today for breakfast after a 35 mile bike ride. We special ordered omelets without oil and specific things in it to cut the calories and fat. The manager came out to see if we had food allergies and was so kind. He said safety first always. It was seriously the best omelet I've ever had and the service so outstanding. We will be back for sure and couldn't recommend them enough. read more

The taco salad is enough for 4 people.... get an extra plate to scoop your salad onto to mix. Black Bear prime rib dinners are totally without flavor & the meat was mostly fat!!!! These dinners are worth zero stars! 3 people in my group had them. The 2 stars are for the pecan crusted trout, it was fresh, flaky, & delicious! Service was first-rate & the facilities are wonderful! Definitely drive south a bit to St. George for a better experience of Black Bear Diner. We waited about 20 minutes to get a table which was ok, we knew there was a wait but then we had to wait 5 minutes for a waiter and 20 minutes for our food to come out. At that point we were still ok with the wait because we know the food is great but when we started eating our food, it was cold! So disappointed. Either the waitress is not performing up to standard or their system is still being worked out since they just opened this year. We have been to black bear before so we know the experience is great, but this location sure got some work to do. read more

I live in Washington, Ut. We have eaten several times at the Back Bear. I'm through with them. First of all, they keep it so cold in there you freeze to death while trying to eat. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. Secondly, the food comes out cold, we have sent it back the last 3 times to have it warmed up. Who wants to eat cold food and freeze your buns off while trying to eat it as well. In case the cook doesn't know, food that is served to the public is suppose to be at 165 degrees. I have eaten at this new Black Bear twice since they opened. The first time we went, it was great. Today however, was bad. My daughter and I got seated within 5 minutes. Our server came to our table promptly and got our drink orders. Coffee and OJ. 10 minutes later, we got our drinks. The restaurant wasn't packed, and our server didn't look or act stressed or rushed. We ordered breakfast. Eggs, bacon, and a waffle. It took 30 minutes to get our food. The first bite of scrambled eggs was disgusting. They were cold, rubbery and were dark yellow on the outside so you know they had been sitting a while. The bacon was cold and started to have that bacon grease (stick to the top of your mouth) feel to it. The waffle was good but soggy. My daughter got almost the exact same thing and it looked and tasted the same. I asked our server if we could just talk to a manager to let him know. 10 minutes later, Collin (the owners son) came over and didn't ask me anything but proceeded to tell me that they have been busy today and that's just the way some things go in this business, and walked away. Are you freaking kidding me? I was stunned. We won't be returning anytime soon, and all our family and friends will be hearing about Collin and his Snotty attitude. As we paid and waiting for our change, Collin was talking to a gentleman at the bar shaking his head and giving us dirty looks. It is so unprofessional. It's too bad really. It's a nice restaurant.
