First and last time at this restaurant. Service was absolutely horrendous, waitresses were incredibly rude and inattentive. They had the audacity to get frustrated with us when they were the ones messing up our order. Took over 25 minutes just to place our food order and then took an additional 45 to receive the food. Another lady from an adjacent table came to us asking how long we've been waiting because it had been 45 minutes since she had placed her order. 12/12/2025, had a hamburger and fries around 1:30 pm. No ketchp, no placemat. I did not say anything. Been vomitting for quite a while. Fries tasted bad, looked like undercooked, over salted frozen fries. Tasted the overwhelming amount of salt. Came home feeling odd, tired, somewhat dizzy, nauseous. Went to lay down... I have been vomitting now, going on almost an hour. Still not feeling quite right. Feels like I'll vomit again. The Health Dept. urgently needs to go investigate. A friend and I had eaten at the Black Bear Diner June 2025, and neither of us liked the food, or service, or price. Being this sick from the food, today, 12/12/2025, is the last straw. So I love black bear dinner it's great. But this location in yucca valley was dirty. I added this photo for reference. There were sweet potatoes and spoons on the floor close by and where I was eating. But the service was great and so was the food as much a place like this can be. I think it really was dirty though because the young staff weren't working it seemed and the server and the food runner were in there late 40s early 50s while the rest of the servers were like in there 20s just standing around. Rating is based on a to go order. This place was fantastic! I ordered the chicken fried steak. Portions were large, and the food was very good. First time in a long time I haven't been disappointed in my meal. The star of the meal was the bear claw. The cashier said they make them fresh. Boy, was it delicious. This review will include the good, the bad and the ugly of my experience at this location. I stopped for breakfast on a weekday at 10 AM, so it was not exactly rush-hour. First, the good. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. My request for over-easy eggs were done just right. The bad: the link sausages were bland and looked as though they had been "cooked" in the microwave. They did not have that delicious, crispy brown crust when done on a griddle. The ugly; the pancakes were the opposite of light and fluffy and were far too sweet, as though the batter had double the amount of sugar it should have had. The coffee was bitter and lukewarm. Time from placing my order until service was about 20 minutes. Service was a "C minus". I do not plan to visit this location again. read more

My 2nd visit to the Blck Bear Diner in Yucca Valley. So what is good about blackbear diner in Yucca Valley? Well so far I've had two items on the dinner menu in my two visits tonight I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, cornbread, Caesar salad, and green beans cooked in bacon.! OMG!!! I've lived in the desert since the 80s and I've been into some really really good restaurants and I've seen some really really good restaurants come and some really really good restaurants go! But I can safely say the food at the black Bear diner in Yucca Valley is absolutely amazing perfect portions excellent prices. The chef does a great job of mixing the entrée with side dishes, whether it be green beans, potato and gravy, potato and sour cream, blue cheese dressing on a salad, broccoli and carrots! This is food cooked and served the way it used to be 30 to 40 to 50 years ago the way it should be in all the other restaurants that claim to be so good yet they disappear after a year never to be heard of again! The blackbear diner in Yucca Valley is absolutely 100% my first choice and favorite restaurant in Olive of Yucca Valley California. And it doesn't just stop there. The ambience is incredible and all of the staff from the host to the waitresses to the bus boys bus gals, all of the staff there all the way up to the chefs are all so amazingly in tune with the customers, they don't rush you they don't question you they give you the time of day or night. I love it there I will continue going to the Black Bear diner in Yucca Valley oh, and let's not forget the desserts.. tonight I got a coconut cream pie a banana cream pie and apple pie a slice of cheesecake and a slice of chocolate cake not all for me. My mom turns 95 tomorrow so I got her a couple of pies. And I purchased my daughter and my grandson and my daughter's husband some nice blackbird diner night shirts. Just relaying a friend's message from Facebook because I brag about Black Bear diner every so often on Facebook it's my favorite restaurant either in friendly or Las Vegas and Tucson. The Black Bear in YV has pretty good food, horribly slow service though. Gave me the wrong salad for my lunch and I patiently waited about an hour to get the taco salad I had ordered after they brought me a Cobb salad. Meanwhile, my guest had long been finished with their meal and had to wait while I ate mine. And there were only 3 other people in the restaurant at lunchtime. Passing through the area, and from my vantage point on the rural highway, it looked like this was the best place we were going to find to eat before going on to Joshua Tree. And maybe it was, but still we had a poor experience here. Walked into the restaurant at 12:10pm and it was medium busy. Got seated in a few minutes. Ordered by 12:25pm... and was still waiting for our simple breakfast plate and turkey club sandwich at 1:15pm. Waitress finally brought the food. It was ok, very simple and the club sandwich was very small compared to every other club sandwich I have ever been served. The French fries were very good. I want to emphasize that the people working here are very nice. Waitress was great and ended up not charging me for the club sandwich on account of the wait. This isn't an indictment of the Black Bear Diner chain, but rather feedback on our poor experience at the Yucca Valley location. On Saturday, October 12th at 7:30 AM, we visited this location. The diner was empty, and no staff was visible when we entered. Liz eventually seated us and brought coffee, but then disappeared for about 10 minutes. Throughout our time there, staff were frequently retreating to the back, leaving customers unattended. After a long wait, Liz finally took our order--Country Fried Steak for my friend Al, and "The Grizz" for me. I asked to upgrade my sausage to patties. The service was slow and disorganized, with the table next to us receiving our food by mistake. When my plate finally arrived, it included raw hash browns and cold eggs. Al's order took even longer to show up. The sausage patties were undercooked, and I could barely manage a few bites. Liz explained she wasn't familiar with the cook, which did nothing to improve the situation. By the time I asked for a box to take my meal home--just to feed it to the birds--Liz was nowhere to be found. Despite apologizing repeatedly and taking a few bucks off the bill, the damage was done. This wasn't our first bad experience here; on previous visits, we've been turned away for having a party of eight and told of 45-minute waits when the restaurant was half empty. This third strike sealed it-- we won't be back. To make matters worse, over the weekend, I heard similar complaints about this location from others. I hope my Google and Yelp reviews help steer people away. In a town like Yucca Valley, where other businesses have come and gone, I'm surprised this diner is still around. read more
