The cute syrup cup and pancakes

The food is amazing, I got the Grizz and the pancakes are soooo yummy. Honestly best pancakes ever. The gravy and hashbrowns are also A1. The service was impeccable, very fast and very friendly staff. Thank you for making our first diner experience in Yucca Valley such a memorable one . The ambiance is very cute and local. You can definitely tell there is a lot of love and thought put behind the establishment. They even have cute newspaper menus!

The service was great (I went on a Thursday morning so it wasn't busy). The food was good and the portions are huge. My family all enjoyed their dishes. I got the biscuits and gravy with thick cut bacon and they were pretty good--the bacon was the best part though. I also really enjoyed their freshly squeezed orange juice. The ambiance was okay. Feels like you're in a cabin. They also have a mini gift shop section. I had a decent experience overall.

Considering it has a large and diverse ingredient list for a diner menu, Black Bear continues to impress me with the tastiness (and portions) of their food. My wife, her mom, and I intentionally stopped into this one in Yucca Valley as we were heading to Joshua Tree, and found the portions (value) and service to be really good. The hostess directed us to a comfortable booth, where soon our friendly server, Jessica, came right over to give us water and time to peruse the newsprint menu. The last time I was at a Black Bear, had determined to try one of their hungry bear dinner entrees. Portions are large, so knew to only order two entrees (since bringing home leftovers was not an option). We wanted to share everything, and Jessica brought out an extra plate without us even asking. Refillable fountain Pepsi was $3.99, with the rest of us being fine with water. The 4-piece homestyle fried chicken ($22.99) was half a chicken, with a very crunchy, non-greasy coating. The meat was juicy. It came with OK fries and a switched out side salad (very large for a side salad, using very fresh vegetables), instead of coleslaw (which still ended up coming out, and was enjoyed). It's a very large meal for one person, and good for the three of us. The Full Course Bear's Dinner of Slow-Cooked Pot Roast ($21.59) comes with a choice of soup or salad and two additional sides (onion rings and mashed potatoes in my case). Soup of the day was potato bacon, and it tasted good: thick with chunks of potato and real pieces of bacon. The pot roast was very tender (close to being mealy), and the brown gravy was very heavy (ended up being a great dip for the fried chicken). The onion rings were excellent, with the mashed potatoes being very hearty. All of it was prepared from frozen, so had a little bit of that frozen dinner quality, but were fine with it since we were sharing a little of everything and it had been prepared well. We had a bit of a drive left, so made sure we used the washrooms which were easy to find and clean. The check is brought to the table, but needs to be brought to the front to pay. It gave me a chance to checkout their dessert/pie display: it's the one thing that doesn't impress when compared to other diners specializing in pies. It's clear that management doesn't expect the staff to nickel/dime everything. For all that we got, there were only three charges on the check. Just makes you feel like you got your money's worth

I stopped here for dinner on the way to Joshua Tree and was glad that I did! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We ordered the tri-tip and the California burger. My advice would be to order a little more rare than what you're looking for because they overcooked it a bit. We ordered beer and wine, both of which unfortunately came out in hot glasses as if they had just been removed from the dishwasher, but they were otherwise good. Our server was friendly and helpful, and the diner was well air-conditioned. If you want a casual dinner with good portions for lower prices in an expensive area, this is the place!

Went here when my wife wanted to use her free birthday breakfast coupon (if you download their app, and put in your birthday, you get a free breakfast every year!). She got the Bears choice breakfast with scrambled eggs, ham and pancakes. I got the Bobs Big Bear Burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce Wrapped. With green beans and bacon. The burger is 10 oz! More than 1/2 pound. It was all very yummy and the service was great. They make everything to order so expect a wait for your food. Be patient.

    Chicken Fried Steak (5 oz)

I have been to Black Bear Diner in other locations before. The menu was more memorable than the foods because it looked exactly like a newspaper. Anyways, we ordered fried chicken steak, tri-tip, Joe's omelet, and The volcano. Originally, I wanted the corned beef hash, but the waitress came back and said they didnt have it. I switched to The volcano. Everyone's else foods came out except for mine. It took a really long time for my foods to get delivered. It was their mistake for not having it. So they should have priority my order, but i guess they didnt. Other customers at other tables that came after got their foods. It wasn't that busy so I am not sure why they took so long. Luckily, our server was nice and professional about it. She apologized and checked up on us. The foods were ok. The tri-tip wasn't so tender. Mash potatoe was a bit too salty. The minestrone soup was good. The pancakes were yummy and the biscuits were great. The omelet was ok. No comment on the chicken fried steak since I didnt try it. I m not always in this area so most likely won't be returning.

I came here after lunch, so the restaurant wasn't busy. Still, the service was a bit slow. There's another branch near my home, so I come here pretty often. The food is decent and consistent, but nothing really stands out. Overall, it's an average spot.

Great location next to our motel. Wonderful service, great menu, and good pricing. Breakfast is their strength as we loved it all and then some. Platters are all huge. Next time will return for their prime rib dinner!

Food was awesome, very quick service, and good vibes inside. Brittany was very helpful!! Will be back

First of all, there is a reason why everyone says Lola is an awesome waitress - it's because it's true! I was trying to decide between the pastrami burger ($16.99) and the chicken pot pie (also $16.99) and without batting an eye she said if you're hungry go with the pastrami burger. I then wanted to test the waters so I said "Okay, how about if we add the prime rib ($27.99) into the mix?" And she said prime rib is the best. Ultimately I wasn't hungry enough for a prime rib meal so went with the pastrami burger which is a smashburger patty with pile of pastrami, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato's & 1000 island served with choice of fries, onion rings, tots or side salad - and I got tots of course which were just as they should be - fantastic! (Side note: Which ever side you get, be sure to get ranch dressing - it's awesome!) The burger was fantastic. It comes cooked led-well and I like mine medium which they will do by request. Girlfriend got the veggie skillet ($18.99) with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, avocado, spinach, home style potatoes & queso blanco - served with 3 eggs and any style toast but she decided to try peanut butter pancakes ($4 upcharge) and her whole meal was absolutely delicious! The only qualm I had with the food quality was my initial sunny-side eggs weren't the runny ones I want but rather overcooked like a heathen would order. But once I brought this up to the server, my eggs were replaced in less than four minutes so all's well that ends well. The server was kind of slow in getting my bill and never offered me a refill for my root beer, but it wasn't a huge wait and I ended up not needing that refill. Again, a push. The ambiance was good. It looked like any memorable diner, just with a muscle car theme. There was a lot of tables and it was busy but not overcrowded. I think this would be the place I ate at if I was a frequent Morongo visitor.

The menu focuses on classic diner fare and comfort food. Our breakfast came out quickly and the portions were just right. Our favorite part of the stop was discovering the dinosaur park behind the building. It's surrounded by a moat that feeds into ponds filled with turtles of all sizes. It turned what could have been a quick meal into one of the most memorable rest stops on our six-hour drive from San Diego to Las Vegas. Well, we never did until today. The place has that 1950's charm complete with checkered floors, and a yellow brick road. It was absolutely packed, and they still managed to get our food to us quickly with flawless service. I ordered the two eggs with sourdough toast, and hash browns. The eggs were scrambled to a light and fluffy consistency, and the hash browns were golden brown outside with a soft interior. Not to mention my mug of coffee was never empty. I also ordered the strawberry rhubarb pie "à la mode" and it was yummy. I'll describe it as the ultimate sweet, tart dessert that reminded me of a strawberry milk shake. The jammy sweetness of ripe strawberries was perfectly balanced with the buttery crust and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This was the cherry on top to my breakfast. I will definitely make it a habit to visit this place when i drive to Vegas. It was well worth the stop.
