We recently visited for a ladies' luncheon to celebrate a friend's 89th birthday. In the past, the food has always been excellent--service could be a bit slow, but the quality made it worthwhile. This time, however, the experience was very disappointing. After our group of ten finished lunch, we brought out a birthday cake to celebrate. The owner came out abruptly and told us we were not allowed to have the cake. Unfortunately, the way this was handled felt rude and unprofessional, especially given the occasion and the fact that we had just spent a significant amount on our meal. It was an upsetting end to what should have been a special celebration, and as a result, they've likely lost ten longtime customers. read more

Service was LOUSY. Only one server on duty that doubled as the barista. Took our drink order. Did not offer water. Friend tried to order a pot of tea. They did not have the type of tea she ordered. She ordered any flavor tea, they only had one tea bag - not enough to make a pot of tea and it was a cheap brand. Brought her tea in a cup, which was too hot to drink from and the tea was lukewarm. Didn't bring a spoon. Didn't offer milk, lemon or sweetener. No set up for the table, knife, fork spoon napkin. I ordered a latte. And it was as if she forgot it and when I asked, she said the milk had to cool down.?!?!!! Never offered or brought water. When asked about the menu certain items were not available. Other ones we were told were premade even though it says it's a scratch kitchen. After we seated, a lady brought her very boisterous and loud kids in without shoes. Lady, sitting behind us, had her cell phone on loud and proceeded to have a very loud conversation with her husband which completely ruined the atmosphere of the place Ended up canceling our food order and leaving Would not recommend. A delicious and visually beautiful small cafe - almost like an English tea shoppe. Interesting menu, and we tried the quiche (sorry, no pix - we ate it too quickly!) and a flatbread with prosciutto and a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and chutney - all delicious! The staff were welcoming and the owner/chef delivered the meal herself. Seen some buzz about this local restaurant and wanted to give it a try. We stepped in and were greeted pretty quickly, asked to sit up at the bar seating. We took a seat and were given drink menus right away. I ordered a warm latte with Cinnamon Toast Crunch topping which came out looking drool worthy. We put in our food order as the drinks were served. We both decided to try the Puffy Pockets, as we were hungry and wanted to try the mix and match. So I ordered the Chicken/Spinach/Garlic, along with the Guava/Brie. Friend ordered the Asparagus/Prosciutto and the Chicken/Lemon caper. Given that everything is made to order here, I thought that the food came out quicker than I expected. From the first bite, the puff pastry was delectable. Sad and extremely disappointed. If you want to support this business you won't be disappointed with the food. Honestly it was one of the best places to eat. Quality food. Decent price . My husband and I spend over $100 with the tip each time we ate here. The person I am assuming is the owner of the place is why we will no longer be coming as the attitude. I was eating with my family who has an autistic grandson with his service dog. We have been seated before in the carpeted area before so it was disappointing to see how another person with a disability and service dog was treated today. We were seated up front on tiled floor. I never thought about until another patron with service dog came to eat also. The patron was young and NEVER rude nor raised her voice. Not once. She was offered to sit (no table) in the seats in front. The young lady spoke of the law in a calm voice. The owner stated she was being rude and refused service because of this. Just WOW. The disabled young lady even stated what her dog was trained for but because owner was ignorant of laws the customer left. Very sad. She severed argued at all. I have video of the situation. Not posting but do have evidence if needed. Yes reporting to ADA department. Hopefully they will educate the owner. Sad but they lost my business and I will spend my money elsewhere. They don't deserve anyone to eat there because of attitude. read more

I was only going to get a regular coffee but it was 41° out and the campfire latte was calling my name. Daughter got the white chocolate cherry frappe and we split a stuffed croissant. Dropped by The Black Butterfly for lunch today. If you haven't been you need to go. It's a lovely laid back atmosphere. Prices are moderate. Everything is home made so be prepared to wait a bit. Our lunch time was ruined by 8 out of town guests with no manners. They all ordered and then ordered a second round of food. When the bill came they were upset because of the credit card fee. They were also charged for each glass of orange juice. They felt this was absurd. Three of the male guests went in the restroom, turned off the water to the sink and stuffed the toilet with paper towels. Then two of the males berated both of the waitresses. The owner came out. They berated her so bad she was crying. When is it alright to be so unkind to service people. This is a small restaurant. Their bill had to be over 100.00. All they need do is call their credit card and they are refunded. The owner is screwed. There was no complaints with the quality of food. Unbelievable. read more

Took an hour and a half for a table of 3 in an empty restaurant. We ordered an omelet, a kids egg plate, and toast. No seasoning on the potatoes, or anything else for that matter. No beef in the $18 beef omelette. The walls are peeling. Absolutely unacceptable service. For them to call themselves a scratch kitchen is unbelievable. When we shared that the omelette had no seasoning or meat on it, they did not offer a replacement and refused to comp it. If you dine here, know you're committing to bad food. Not recommended. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful. Husband had sunshine sandwich and I ordered spicy chicken flatbread. Loved this place! When we're traveling we make a point to try out local coffee shops and restaurants. We were exploring New Smyrna for the first time and decided to stop at Black Butterfly for a quick coffee. We were pleasantly surprised to find an adorable sit-down cafe with a creative and unique menu. We were immediately drawn to the stuff croissants and decided we needed to sit and order one to go with our coffee rather than grabbing something to go. We got the guava cream stuffed croissant, and it was phenomenal! In addition to great food options, the owner and her niece (our server) were incredibly helpful and friendly, spending time to talk with us, answering our questions about local sights to explore and offering many helpful suggestions. I do have several suggestions number 1). more descriptive menu so I don't have to keep asking the lovely waitress to describe the dish, 2) more comfortable chairs where we sat the cushion was a little too thin, and I could feel the bars on the chair. 3) pipe in some nice music in the back, to combat the kitchen noise.
