What only made this place okay? I ordered the half calf single add lettuce. There was an up charge for lettuce and it had just a few wilted shreds of iceberg. Also, the single is not enough meat for the amount of bun. My partner on the other hand got the black pearl double - which he loved. The inside is clean and the interior is small. I was greeted by a kind employee and was patient when I went to order. I got a double pear burger, fries and the BCB burger. Giant burgers, double patties. I paid around 14 dollars for each burger and the fries were 5 dollars. It seemed expensive at first, but you definitely get what you're paying for. We arrived in St Petersburg late on a Saturday night and needed a quick bite before heading to our room. BCB showed good ratings so we headed that way. Upon arriving we didn't realize this was a late-night hotpot, in the middle of party central. This wasn't a problem for us and it added an element of people watching to our late night dinner. We ordered a Classic burger and BCB burger, plus fries to share. It all hit the spot and I could not have left happier. Black Cattle Burger is a very good smash burger joint in downtown St Pete; a few steps above your typical Steak n' Shake. I'm not a fan of no drink/fries combo but the delicious burger made up for that small nuance. I ordered the Black Pearl and although it was cheesy, saucy and had perfectly griddled onions, the aioli didn't taste much of truffle. I will frequent this place regularly for a delicious, quick and easy smash burger and after I explore the menu a little more, I hope I'll find something that will bring my review to a 5 star. read more

I was craving a burger so we decided to try Black Cattle Burger. I was very pleased with the ambiance, the melty cheese look at the cashier, letting us know that this is indeed a burger joint. Unfortunately, they don't have shakes which is odd because looking around the restaurant we clearly saw wording "Burgers, Fries, Shakes". Nonetheless, we were explained that they will eventually have shakes but at the moment they don't have a place to set it. I ordered the BCB burger which is exactly what I was looking for, it was delicious and I highly recommend. I like how they state what meat is used in their burger patties - ground chuck, brisket and short rib, it gives me a sense of certainty and I'm not wondering what this mystery meat could be. My buddy Dan and I found Black Cattle Burger after seeing a movie at AMC Sundial on a Thursday night. We got out of the movie just when the kitchens for most of the bars and eateries in downtown St. Pete were closing, around 10 pm, but thankfully, BCB still had their grill going, What an absolute find! This is truly no-frills dining for the burger lovers out there -- it's reminiscent of the "Five Guys" dining experience, with walk-up ordering, burgers made to order, and a very simple menu focused on what they do best. That said, I'd put BCB's burger above anything I've had at a Five Guys, easily. That night I order their signature burger, the BCB. Double patty, American cheese, bacon, sautéed onions. Juicy, bursting with flavor, messy as heck and absolutely delicious. Their hand cut fries were excellent, too -- well-seasoned, thick cut (not like steak fries, though), and piping hot. Again, this is a no-frills dining experience. We waited about 5-7 minutes for our burgers, which isn't bad at all considering what we got, so service is quick, though I can't speak to how quick it might be if the place is busy. Now, am I saying I'm choosing this place over Engine No 9 when looking for burgers in downtown St. Pete? No, not at all -- Engine No 9's expansive menu and burger options, plus craft beer and TVs to watch sports, make it a superior spot for hanging out and enjoying burgers. BUT Black Cattle Burger should fit the late-night dining niche very nicely, especially on the same block with Joey Brooklyn's, Mary Margaret's, and other bars closer to the waterfront where the kitchens close early. The menu may be limited, but what's there is very well done. Check it out next time you're out late downtown and you're really hungry. You won't be disappointed. read more

I tried out a new burger restaurant in town. All in all, it was a good experience. I got the black pearl, which is a double patty burger, cheese, & mushrooms. It was a tasty burger on a nice bun. I added fries for four dollars and even splurged and got a hot apple pie for five dollars. Will you get a cheap meal at this place... Not really. Burger, fries, drink, and a dessert is a pretty hefty price tag. But, it was good. Advantages -- the burger was really good. The fries were seasoned... But I could've used a little more seasoning. The apple pie was delicious -- it was bigger than I was expecting and it covered with cinnamon and sugar. Definitely a dessert you could share. The soda was served in a glass and the soda machine was behind the counter. I'm not sure if it's store policy or not... But when I asked for a refill, I got one. Bonus. Disadvantage -- the only real disadvantage is the price. A little pricey for a burger spot. The restaurant does have inside seating but it's kind of similar to a 5 Guys -- The grand majority of people take their food and go. The interior was clean and modern. If you're drunk and craving salt this place makes sense since it's was you crave. My burger patties were thin and dry, the onion that were crispy were so mushy that I didn't realize they were fried, i think they were sitting in the bbq aioli the whole day instead of being topped at time of purchase? I understand that it's Christmas Eve, but it was 3pm and he was in the back watching tv, realized we were here, came out took our order and walked away to go find cook before we even finished paying. This place was a disappointment. I went with a simple single, lettuce, tomato, mayo only, and my friend had the BCB - CO. We both agreed it was nothing special. As you can see the bread was nothing special, the presentation is a mess, the edges were not crunchy, and the fries, well, just fries and small in size at that (the picture was taken before I even ate one), and the apple hand pie we had for kicks. The place is clean as it's new, the front of the house employees just stand around when not taking an order, and you have to get refills, even water, from someone at the counter. It's not self-serve drinks so if busy that could create an issue. All food is served in a brown bag as if it is all to-go. Don't expect the food to look like what they advertise. I guess I didn't realize it didn't come with a side because the gent taking my order didn't offer a side, which is really my only critique.
