5/5 Stopped in to get some work done today and was pleasantly surprised by Black Rock! I have never been here prior to today and I wanted to give it a try! I ordered a large strawberry green iced tea and it was amazing! I feel like it's hard to find a good sit down coffee shop that has good flavored teas so I was so happy to see it on the menu! My drink came out quickly and I was able to start my work at a comfy table after. I love the vibe of the shop, there's lots of tables and some chairs available, a great place to come and work alone or with friends. I came on a Monday morning and had no problem finding a spot to set up. The drinks are very reasonably priced (~$5 for my large tea) which is also a plus! I would recommend stopping in and giving it a try if your in the area!

Quick update. Sadly, they discontinued the Tuesday teacher/student discount. Back to gas station cappuccino for me, I guess. :( (This is not a reflection of the set is or quality... just an update so folks don't assume, as I did, that the Tuesday teacher discount was a mainstay on the menu.

Ah... coffee, behind sugar the most acceptable and almost required drug in America. Who can deny the satisfaction of opening the doors to any coffee shop and getting slapped in the face with the most brilliant, bold and savory smells that only fresh brewed coffee can produce? Not only that but the required caffeine that our blood streams need to jolt our overly taxed or perhaps underserved waking up mechanism. I work out in the AM so coffee for me is more about opulence and indulgence than a necessity but I digress. Anyways I'm always a sucker for a new rival to that "big Seattle coffee company" for something that is more homegrown. Alas, when I saw Blackrock went up in Kyle so I was elated to see how they measured up. The facility is brand spanking new which brings pros and cons to the "coffee table" (pardon the pun) with the cons being aesthetics and trivial not something faulty. Sitting on the corner of a very accessible intersection, access is easy, parking is plentiful and traffic well if you know the area, you can paint your own picture. Anyways I walked up to restaurant and it was so spanking new I thought I'd see a bow on the front wearing lingerie saying "I'm all yours, XOXOXO." Ok joking aside there isn't much developed life this place has seen which definitely creates an almost desperate ambiance. While I like the Austin inspired murals on the outside and inside walls, it has more of a strip mall "I wanna be hip" flow to it. Outside has rod iron chairs and tables I believe like 5 within 20 square feet, so close you can smell who has decided "deodorant is evil." These aren't necessarily bad things; I'm just pointing them out. Inside there's a dedication to blending styles of comfort vs minimalism. High tables with tan leather seats and wood grained tables, Japanese fusion styled murals, bubble lights wood planks from floor to open dark black ceilings, etc. The couches and chairs are also tanned and readily available. There are several menus on the walls strategically placed for customers to easily review. The employees work in a nook that reminds me of a surgery room, white tiled and sterile. Now let's get on to the stars of the show. I'm on a diet so I can't comment on the food therefore I encourage reading other reviews if that's your fancy but I will comment on the beverages. I confess I like to indulge in interesting combinations not straight black coffee. My first endeavor I sampled the hot caramel truffle. I was expecting more of a robust burnt sugar and chocolate flavor but the coffee overpowered all the flavors, that's not bad but you'll need to be like Indiana Jones to excavate for the unique enhancements. I liked it but not to the point I'd have to get it again. The next coffee I've decided to wrap my lips around was the Irish coffee with Irish cream breve. They claim a toffee-esque experience but I say it's a good generic tasting coffee with limited flavor buddies that were invited to the tastebud party. It's good, basic downhome coffee but I won't be writing my dear old mom about it. The last hot coffee on my list was the caramel blondie with caramel white mocha. I figured I'm done playing around and want to get punched with some decadent flavors. It was a smidge bit sweeter but again it was coffee forward with me having to dig for flavor combos beyond ground beans. I don't want to sound "bitter," pardon the play on words, as their coffee is good but when advertising coffee with flavors, they need to be more pronounced. I will add the servers or "Baristas" are extremely nice and know the menu while being pretty darn fast. I'm a people person so I went in on all occasions and enjoyed the pleasant banter I had with them. Overall, the coffee experience is on par with anything else the competitors have but I will always support locals first. It wasn't to the level that swayed my mind to leave my favorite coffee shop but it was still a good experience. Give it a "shot" and see what you think. I might have it again if I'm looking to mix things up otherwise, I still have my favorite spot. Enjoy!

We happened to stop by to visit the Thai restaurant, but they weren't open yet. Since we never tried Black Rock Coffee we figured this would be the day! I'm a non coffee drinker, so I loved the variety to choose a drink for me. The strawberry smoothie was so delicious! Jeff got an ice coffee that he loved! Super flavorful and lots of places to sit inside. They even have deals for students and staff! Can't wait to try more of the menu!

Trying black coffee and mint chip chiller. - do not recommend the coffee. The chiller was good. Hard to tell when it will be ready - still wasn't super clear. Floor is dirty - not obvious because it is concrete Nice wide open area. Loud music. Drive thru wasn't obvious from outside. Might be useful if visiting again - but likely won't return.

    Iced Teal Fuel

Workers are always nice and I love their fuels, also recommend getting the app for good deals. Teal fuel was good and my boyfriend got a punch fuel, they taste similar to welch gummies.

Came to their grand opening and was impressed by how well they managed the large crowd so efficiently. Matcha is super tasty as well -- not too sweet. Wish them all the success in Kyle!

Meridian is in downtown Buda and is connected to Zoi Wellness. We were able to park in the parking lot across the street. Upon walking in, the space had a rustic loft feel with lots of greenery. The furniture made it feel very cozy. I honestly didn't expect to find a coffee shop like this in Buda. The barista was very nice and gave recommendations. My mom and I both ordered Iced Pecan Pie Lattes which was a seasonal drink that they were featuring. We ordered our drinks to go, but then decided to sit in the cafe and enjoy our beverages. The coffee is legit! We both liked our beverages. I really enjoyed the pecan flavor and the sweetness level was perfect. The barista informed us that they make all of their syrups in house. I noticed that there were plenty of outlets for work or study. There's quite a bit of seating including couches. They have QR codes at each table that you can order from which is so convenient. In addition to coffee (which is served until 5 pm), they also have wellness drinks, wine, beer and cocktails. They have a nice sized stage for live music. I would love to go back in the evening for a cocktail and live music! I'm so happy to have discovered this gem in Buda!

As you walk in, you'll notice the building space has a store front where the sell other retail items besides food. You can see the bakers hard at work making everything fresh from scratch. I look at the display case of goodies and know I'll be leaving with more than I came on for. I look over the menu and order the croissant breakfast sandwich with sausage and 3 Danishes (cheese, blueberry, and strawberry). When they call my name, I pick up the order and find a seat in the neighboring spot which sell coffee, tea, and other drinks (see separate review for Meridian). The croissant breakfast sandwich comes with a scrambled egg, sliced link sausage and a green salsa that has a nice heat to it. The croissant itself it nicely toasted and just crumbles in your mouth as you take your first bite. The sandwich is hearty and will fill you up. Now that the foundation has settled, let's dive in: SERVICE: The baristas have gotten much better (or were let go and replaced) and are much more competent than the first few months. FOOD: While they still don't offer food except for light local pastries, the food truck vendors have changed and NOT in a good way. I always come for my coffee and breakfast taco, but the recent change has been a huge let down (cash/zelle/venmo ONLY, inconsistent hours). Progress needs to monitor their food trucks better and revisit those contracts PARKING: Now that Progress has subleased a portion of their building to an insurance agent, the alternate lot is reserved for insurance patrons only.
