TLDR: Parking hard to find, orders take a while, food wasn't upto mark and salad dressing seemed gone off. Parking: Store front has 6-8 spots although the store is pretty large and has 15+ tables. There is street parking throughout. We went in on a weeknight and couldn't find any parking nearby or in the store front. Not a point of contention but something to keep in mind because lanes are super narrow when you back in and out. Seating: No reservation or numbering system, you can sit anywhere that's available, store front, inside or lanai with peakaboo ocean views (however this comes w some pesky flies/light moths). Food: Good range/options, customizable. We got a small pizza and a salad. Pizza was out in 15 mins but the salad took over 30 minutes. Apart from the grilled chicken (which was bland) there was nothing cooked or assembled in the salad so the wait wasn't justified. The salad dressing was some sort of curry vinaigrette but it tasted and smelled a little putrid. When we told the staff, they said it's made in house... But didn't do anything to alliviate the issue. So a really good pizza place is hard to find on the mainland - and dang near impossible to find on a remote tropical island. However, BRP nailed it tonight. From the pepperoni rolls and salad over to the variety of pies our family sampled, simply delish ! Oh, and did I mention the Mai Tai It was a busy night and we ended up sitting at a raised counter out back - definitely worth the stop and the effort of getting a seat. Some of the staff was extremely rude. They were also super busy and took a very long time to get our order made for takeout. It tastes about the same as the Black rock in town, which I do give lots of stars. They had a nice deck out the front but we weren't allowed to sit on it to wait. read more

The pizza and the kitchen staff was top notch. Some of the best pizza i have ever had! Loved to watch the crew toss the dough. Goat cheese was ‍. The reason it's a 3 and not a five was the bartender. So my wife, daughter and I just got back from a week on the big island and one thing for sure is that place is expensive, except at Black Rock Pizza! We ate there at the one about 5 miles south of Kona, right on 11. What a treat!! The bread sticks are to die for, some of the best we have ever had! We all had pizza, three different flavors, all were excellent without exception. I played golf the next day with a resident, he said they have the best pizza on the island, and prices are very reasonable here, for food and drink! The ambiance of Black Rock Pizza is on point. Walk thru the indoor dining with the bar to the left and tables along a red brick wall on your right with outdoor seating on the patio. The whole setup is just perfect, really comfortable. Beer selection good with variety. And they have wine and mix drinks for the non beer drinkers The pizza selection is of course great as well. So many choices and the option to split the pizza (of the same sauce) is a really nice feature! Along with the many options, the toppings always come out super loaded! Really getting the bang for the buck here! It's a neat place I'd recommend anyone wanting a beer with some pizza! This place was really good! We had been craving pizza on the trip (usually we visit Maui and Lahaina Pizza Company is our spot). I didn't take a ton of photos, mainly because we were all so hungry from having visited the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. We had the Garlic Butter Bread Sticks, Pepperoni Rolls, and the Big Island Balls (Jalapeño-Bacon-Cheese) and they were all so good! My favorite of the three was the Big Island Balls. I also got the Li Hing Margarita, which was great! I would definitely recommend it. My husband and I just got a basic pizza, but the crust, sauce, and the toppings were all good quality. This place was not great. The breadsticks & bake came out half raw. When the server asked how the food was, I told her it wasn't great. Then a cook walks out & says " watch the movie waiting, and learn how it is in the food industry." I work in the food industry, and we typically don't serve half raw food. Glad to find this new pizzeria - we decided to give it a try. Their website is pretty spiffy and even funny - but online ordering was confusing to me, took me almost 25 minutes to figure out how to place the order. I was looking for the "Veggie Head" pizza, expecting to specify the size AFTER wards. Its the reverse, you pick the pizza size first, THEN pick the specialty pizza. Anyway, the parking here is minimal, and its a very popular place, especially around sunset, which is, of course, when I chose to pickup my order. No where on the street or in the tiny lot available, so I parked in the police station lot across the street and scampered across the highway. Order was ready, prepaid, I was in/out in a flash. Very noisy inside. The 12" pizza was pretty good, liked the crust, the red sauce nicely sweet, mozzarella cheese and veggies good. I thought a little sparse. Crust burnt in several spots. Solid effort, best pizza I've found (way better than the "B" place in Keauhou). They have some pretty groovy specialty pizzas I'd love to try on the next trip. My wife forbid me to order the LocoMoco one tho..... Prices are high. After tip the 12" was $24. Great COVID protocols practiced here, as most places on Big Island.
