Black Walnut Brewery is a really fun place to hang out and enjoy local brews that are not afraid to venture outside the box. My husband and I were visiting Leesburg for a fun night out and almost walked past this brewery, but there was something about the place that just made us curious to want to venture inside. I'm so glad we did. The bartender and other patrons were really welcoming. We ordered two of their darkest beers and grabbed a chair to just sit back and relax. The peanut butter porter was as great as I expected and the chocolate/berry stout was actually pretty good too. The music play list was right up my alley and I found myself singing along to some great Country hits (I was not the only one). My husband just shook his head and laughed, but he knows anything he says will just further encourage me...lol. They are pet friendly and have multiple rooms to enjoy as well. They have great t-shirts along with beer for sale. I definitely recommend Black Walnut Brewery to anyone who enjoys a little adventure and great company while sipping some local brews. Thanks for a great experience! :-)

I always enjoy this brewery. They have a variety of beer and a nice atmosphere. Both the indoor bar and outdoor area are nice. I come here everytime I'm in leesburg.

We visited Black Walnut Brewery last Sunday - late afternoon for the first time. As soon as it opened - it became a target for us - as we must visit all area craft breweries! It's off the beaten path so to speak. It's not located in the old town down town area proper. Instead, it's a few blocks outside of that area, in a house, that according to the brewery staff, used to be a massage parlor. The house - the brewery - is not right on the street. It's behind another house. But you can see the sign at the beginning of the driveway. Parking is tight - so you may have to park on the street and walk over. The place was packed when we arrived. Most of the seating is outside on the deck - which is fully covered. There is some limited seating inside on the main floor. Not sure about the rest of the house. The quantity of beer they brew per tank is very small - I used the term "Nano Brewery" with the staff when we entered - I was corrected to "Pico Brewery!" The tanks are small! We decided to try every beer/ale available on this day - so we ordered a tasting flight which had: Yellow Lab IPA (6.9% ABV) Hound Dog Hefeweizen (5.0% ABV) German Helles (5.2% ABV) Great Dane Imperial Stout (10.6% ABV) Black Lab Porter (6.3% ABV) Pumpkin Ale (6.3% ABV) Two of the six stood out to me - the Yellow Lab IPA and the Black Lab Porter were my favorites. I'd drink a pint of those gladly. The others were decent beers/ales, but nothing grabbed me - as in "I'd order a whole pint of that!" The seating outside is a series of tables under cover - so if it rains - you should be good outside. There was an entertainer playing guitar and singing, he was pretty good. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. They came to check on us a few times to see how we were doing. I did not see a WiFi network while I was there, but I did not ask. I had good enough cell service on AT&T to use the Untappd app on my iPhone to log all of my beers on Untappd! I'll definitely come here again! Groovy little Pico Brewery!

Five stars for atmosphere, three stars for beer. My husband and I found this brewery in downtown Leesburg while on a leisurely stroll on the WO and D. We liked that there was an additional outdoor room in the back with another bar and more seating. This was a cute covered deck and some lounge chairs out on rocks that gave it a beach vibe. Or at the very least, a beach-themed frat party vibe. Did anyone here go to UVA? You know the one I'm talking about. It's was fun and laid back. We brought our baby and it was family-friendly. We got a flight which was reasonably priced. My only complaint was that the beers were all really similar and didn't really stand out to me. I think my favorite was the saison. It's a great spot to hang in downtown Leesburg. Fun atmosphere. We'll be back.

Me and my boyfriend stopped her during my extended holiday break. This a stop on the Loundon county beer trail. Omg this place is such a quaint lovely little brewery! I felt like we stepped into a brewery set of Cheers. Everyone knew each other! Then again it was a random weeknight in Leesburg. We tried a sampler of all the beers they are offered. I love IPA's, the Coopers Trail IPA was a decent. The other one I really liked was the California Common, a light lager. It would be a great summer beer. The peanut butter porter was too sweet for me. Really nice service and friendly patrons. What a cute brewery in Leesburg!

Really nice visit to what seems like a hole-in-the-wall brewery. I didn't ask what their production is but it must be limited. The tasting building is tiny, but has a nice patio. The crowd was really eclectic, from over-achieving marathon runners stopping for a beer, to families with dogs. I arrived slightly before opening, so the manager wasn't quite prepared for business. But once they got settled things went smoothly. In fact, the manager came out and chatted for a bit, asking what I thought of her beer. She even insisted I come back to try their Imperial Stout, which was one of her favorites (but off the current menu). What I tried: Mable Brown: Very subtle flavors, not so much maple as candied bacon. Favorite of the bunch. Pumpkin Ale: Really liked this one. I got less of the pumpkin and more of the spice. A little sweet but not overly so. Second favorite. Double Dog IPA: I rarely like IPAs, but I could almost drink this one. The hops were relatively mild. Irish Red: OK. I'm not a huge Red Ale fan but I'd drink it if you gave it to me. Blone Ale: Sorry...but HATED this one. Cloudy, with a very peculiar hops flavor which I couldn't stand. Fortunately this was an aberration because I enjoyed the rest of the lineup. This is likely a love-it-or-hate-it beer.

Nice little gem in downtown Leesburg. A very nice intimate place to sit with a group of friends and enjoy a few beers. They also have a nice sized parking lot. I didn't order much since this was my second stop, but I did order the Mango beer that they had on tap. To my surprise I really enjoyed it--i would compare it to an ipa (and I really don't like ipas but it worked). Definitely worth a visit!

Saw this place walking to the Georgtown Park in Leesburg, VA. Great outside sitting area with plenty of picnic tables. I tried the Yellow Lab IPA and enjoyed its taste. Friendly staff and bartenders. I will defintely be coming back to try their other beer menu items.

My husband and I stopped in here the other day and really liked it! It's a cute converted old house in Leesburg, and is charming. We split a flight of beer and some complimentary popcorn. Our favorite beer was the New Zealand IPA. It was citrusy and refreshing with the perfect amount of hops. I look forward to coming back!

This little brewery along the Old Dominion trail is perfect for a little break, catch some shade, and of course, have a beer! I am always a fan porters and stouts and their peanut butter porter was a 9/10 for me! Nice thick head that you can really taste the peanut butter! Hangout and relax our on their back patio area. Will definitely be stopping here often!

Going to Black Walnut Brewery is like going to a friend's house. It's warm, cozy, inviting, and dog and kid friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed. There are places to sit inside and outside. Bonus- the popcorn machine outside which you can serve yourself. Beer and popcorn- simple but perfect pairing. Their beers are named after types of dogs (I'm sensing a theme). They have a few beers that they rotate on tap. They also do tasting flights which was a bonus. On our recent visit, I did a flight which included the Irish Red Setter Ale, Golden Retriever Blond Ale, Maple Brown Ale, and Pumpkin Ale. My husband did the same plus the Double Dog Dare IPA. We were able to get some seats outside on the patio. This is definitely a place where everyone shares space and you can get to know your table mates. I really enjoyed all the beers I tried. They all weren't too heavy but had a good flavor. You can bring your own food here which is always a plus but the popcorn suited us just fine. The staff is friendly and service here is good. Definitely a good stop if you're visiting Leesburg.

Super cozy brewery in an old house in downtown Leesburg. Great atmosphere. They have a bonfire out back and you can purchase "smores packets" to roast. The beer is very good. I loved the mango IPA and gingerbread imperial stout. Staff are friendly and welcoming. I will definitely return:).

Disappointed the peanut butter beer was out, so tried the coconut lager and it was a bit too bitter for me.

Ask the Community - Black Walnut Brewery

Do they serve food or offer food trucks?

They usually have chips/popcorn on hand. Often there are food trucks. Would check instagram and other social media to see what is there. They also are fine with you bringing take out. We've picked up a burger at Melt and brought it over before.

We sat inside earlier in the day when it was hotter since the dogs would be uncomfortable in the heat but at 5'pm the weather got real nice so we moved outdoors. I've been going to breweries in Northern Virginia for over 14 years now and have seen a ton come and go. From Ocelot, to Old Ox, from Adroit Theory to Aslin, Solace, Honor, Route 7, Wheatland Springs, Dominion, Caboose, Crooked Run, Bluemont, Dirt Farm and probably some more. Bottom line - Lark is your average family get together venue, it rivals with Vanish, Dirt Farm and Bear Chase. Tons of room for the fam to run around and play, however - very limited parking space for the amount of seating areas. The service was okay, as someone who has served Beer and Wine for almost 3 years, I totally understand. However the staff was pretty hard to work with. They would stand behind the counter, they don't make eye contact and they don't ask who's next or really know how to engage the customer. They don't seem to be interested in their own beer. At one point there were 7 employees behind the counter while there were 3 -5 people in line. They should have teamed up and taken care of all 3 - 5 people at once. Pro tip: one person can serve multiple people, you don't need 7 people behind the bar. Get them working, you have waaaaay too many employees and barely any of them know what IBU means. For the beer, if you're a person who uses Untappd, I gave the brewery a 3/5. The beers were okay and probably need a lot more time for research. Why is a pilsner extra hoppy? But if you're really looking for a great venue with amazing service and amazing beer? Annnnnd family time? Hit up Wheatland Springs and you will not be disappointed Save yourself some time and money and just go to Ocelot for good beer and for beer and the family go to Wheatland Springs Lark is fairly new to the game but they're pulling the venue vibe card.
