We celebrated a birthday dinner at Blackbird Abbey. The food was great. Our server Sabrina was awesome. We had a great meal. Small place so make reservations. Enjoy.

First off. This place is great. We haven't been for about a year so menu items changed a bit. But nonetheless the food was fantastic. We tried to book via the website which was through open table but it noted that the restaurant was closed, which was far from it. Try calling to book a reservation because theyre currently having issues with opentable. Now that's outta the way we were served by Abbey and she took care of us dearly. We first ordered the Hand Cut beef tartare, which was fresh and had good flavor, great for sharing. The mains I ordered their 16oz ribeye w/ a side of Grilled Corn, it had chimichurri sauce on the side, but to be honest it wasn't necessary as the spices they did on the meat was already flavorful, but it did give a different flavor profile, since the chimichurri was a bit spicy. My wife ordered the Bacon Crust Salmon. We also ordered some House Baked roll with Honey Butter and sea salt. The butter was really good. We went here on a Wednesday night so it was as busy. Probably a good time to go. But again their restaurant is open, just call to make a reservation. Positive experience overall, and Abbey was attentive. Compliments to the chef.

Dinner was fantastic here. Those deviled eggs really caught me off guard. It was a full on show eating them! They were presented in a glass dome with smoke inside. The bacon was so juicy and the crispy edges were divine. There was no one in the restaurant which really confused me because the food and service were so great. Maybe cuz I showed up late but I'm shocked this places isn't packed on a Friday night. Worth every dollar. Check it out.

Delicious French inspired food with top choice wine and alcohol all topped off with fantastic service. This new restaurant (just seven weeks old) is on the rise and the one to watch out for! Food: I got the lamb shank and my husband got the duck leg confit. The lamb shank was fall off the bone, melt in your mouth delicious. The duck confit was seasoned perfectly, had a magnificent crispy skin, all without an oily or dry aftertaste. Also paired well with the risotto. Excited to come back for crab cakes, the beet salad, the salmon, and the steak. Alcohol: fantastic wine choices. Husband ordered a chardonnay that was balanced and not too buttery. They even gave an '18 Cab I'd love to try next time. I opted for the beers. Not being a big beer fan, I got the two sour beers and loved them. They have the ipas, stouts, and cool craft beers too. Seating was plentiful. Gorgeous decorations. Fanatic service. Right next to Rokka and the Vandalist, Blackbird is a fierce competitor and is here to stay! I'd love to see a happy hour or a few cocktail choices. But overall, a delightful addition to uptown Whittier, a delicious French restaurant, and a perfect new date night staple.

Me and my wife where looking for something new to try in uptown Whittier and Blackbird abbey did not disappoint. The food and service were both excellent. Gives a very chill vibe for an easy going dinner experience. I would recommend the Caesar salad and steak and frites.

    Stuffed eggs with pork shoulder

This is a lovely little place in downtown Whittier. The waitress was attentive and helpful, but also gave me the space to enjoy dinner at my own pace. The food was delicious. The stuffed eggs came with a serving of BBQ pork shoulder that was amazing. The filet mignon was good and the smashed Yukon gold potatoes were melt in your mouth delicious. They do serve seasonal and small batch items, so sometimes they don't have everything available on the menu, but are happy to help you find something different. I can't say enough about the service and food. This is a little gem.

I've been here about 5 times in the last few months and have been impressed with their food and service every time. Salads, soups and entrees have been absolutely delicious! I love that I can find dishes that are unique from other restaurants in Whittier, but can also find classic dishes that have been taken to another level with the Chef's use of seasonal fruits and vegetables. I gave it 4 stars because he hasn't had any dessert offerings on at least two occasions that I've visited and I love ending my dinner with dessert.

Tried this new spot on a sunday evening and I was not disappointed. I had the salmon and my friend had the steak. We also ordered the mac and cheese from the small bites. Unfortunately, we ate the mac so quickly I didn't capture a good picture. But it was so good we couldn't wait for the picture. It was creamy, and had a nice little crunch with the bread crumbs. The peas & bacon were also a nice addition. The steak was cooked to perfection and the steak fries were great. My salmon was one of the best! It was perfectly crispy on the outside and cooked to perfection, it was moist and the sauce and veggies complimented so we'll. Our server, Andrew was very attentive and gave us some great menu suggestions. Can't wait to try other menu items.

My husband and I were excited to try this new restaurant in Whittier. We ordered the hanging bacon, duck, and filet mignon. The hanging bacon sounded promising--we were expecting something thick-cut and crispy, like a butcher-style bacon. Unfortunately, it just tasted like regular bacon and didn't feel special. It was served with a baguette, but we thought a thicker-sliced sourdough would have been a better pairing than the soft white bread. The filet mignon was just okay. It came with kale and fries--the kale was overly salty, and the fries were a bit too hard for our taste. The duck dish was also quite salty, and it came with risotto that wasn't very creamy. The rice was overcooked when we were expecting a slightly al dente texture. We also wished they had a wider drink menu--there weren't many options to choose from. That said, we understand the restaurant is newly opened, and we hope our feedback helps them improve. One highlight of the evening was our server--he was genuinely friendly and made us feel comfortable throughout our dinner.

We entered in and the server was really nice and we got sat immediately. The place is really cute and is decorated nicely. However, there was two main issues, one being the lack of AC and the other, just being the food. Let me tell you we were straight sweating. I swear, even the water was room temperature within a couple of minutes. The bottle was sweating too! Def don't go here if you struggle with hot temperatures. Especially since the food we were eating was also hot. The Caesar salad wasn't good. The dressing tasted like a bottled dressing you could get from the store. And the croutons were fried which was so odd. It just tasted like oil. I described it as tasting like a donut. Maybe the oil was old or something. Not a good start. Then the food came. We were CRYING LAUGHING at the ungodly amount of fries that came with the sandwich. And once again they just tasted oily to me, or like the oil used was old. The sandwich according to him was just "aight". My pasta was SO flavorless I'd rather go to Olive Garden. It was literally just a bowl of cream with no seasoning. And the shrimps were so hard and dry. They left the tails on too, which had no point since there wasn't even any juice in them. Rock hard and tasteless. I feel bad because the server was really sweet but it was sooooo hot we had to get out of there! The food wasn't good either, especially considering the bill clocked in at $100 . We payed, abandoned our food, and got outta that sauna.

As we waited, I started noticing something interesting: two parties who came in after us were seated immediately. Then almost 30 minutes went by. At that point, I poked my head back in and said, "Hey, we put our name down about 30 minutes ago, and I've noticed people coming in and getting seats." Immediately, the hostess who originally helped us said, "Yes, yes... sorry about that. You can choose a table right now." So apparently our table had been available in the Witness Protection Program. To make matters worse, we were seated next to one of the parties that arrived after us, and we got to enjoy the thrilling experience of watching them receive their food before we even ordered. The food itself was good overall. The only miss for me was the mac and cheese, which tasted like KFC mac and cheese that had a passionate encounter with a jar of jalapeño juice. Would I come back? Maybe. The food was decent, but for a first visit, the service definitely left a stronger impression than the meal did.

We started off by ordering drinks; my husband tried their Bodega Brewing Co. 'Mala Suerta' Dark Lager, and I had the Pinot Grigio 2024 La Boatina. Both of our drinks were great! We finished off our meal with the Crema Catalana for dessert, which was bright, zesty, refreshing, and tasty! It's a lighter dessert that is just the right amount of sweet. The whole meal was excellent! Clearly a lot of love and energy has gone into this menu. The ingredients are high quality and the dishes are full of flavor. The staff are friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is perfect for a nice evening out. It's very cozy and romantic with beautiful decor. Before tip it was just about $85. Let's start with a little history of the Dal Rae, it opened in 1951 and has been sharing its extraordinary menu and dining experience to many including my wife's parents and family who dined there regularly for over 40 years. My wife's parents and her sisters would go there regularly as children. The Dal Rae offers a unique "old school" charm from the classic dining room vibe that you seldom see, don't get me wrong there are still a few of these places around but you know I experienced so much that I just don't see anymore. The dark dining room lit by table candles and dim lighting, featuring a long hardwood bar with the same lighting making amazing cocktails past the stage that hosts live entertainment to the dining rooms with the same lighting with booths with clothed tables, baskets of breads and a relish tray. The entire staff is friendly and honored to have you in their dining room. Let's talk about the food, a good sized menu offering some old school appetizers as well as your others, fine cuts of meats, fresh seafoods and aged beef. My entree came with a house salad that I have to say was the best dinner salad I have ever had, I am not sure if it was the fact that the salad was prepared and tossed with the house made blue cheese dressing with large chunks of blue cheese with simple additions but every bite was incredible. If I wasn't in such a classy establishment I would have kicked the plate . (But I didn't) our entrees came after our salads and some had French Onion Soup. My brother in law/wife and his brother/wife and sister/husband along with my wife filled our table. My brother in law and his siblings also dined at the Dal Rae with their parents when they were young and still come to this day. So there was a lot of great food on our table as well as great family. I ordered the Steak Diane a dish rarely found these days, I was so excited to have this again and just as excited to try it at Dal Rae, as it was prepared table side you could instantly smell the aromas of Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, butter and other ingredients then the brandy with a flash of fire creating the fragrant decadent sauce only to be found in Steak Diane. It was Molto Bene in every bite e tutti delizioso! All our dishes were simply incredible, great flavors and served with such class and old school charm. We also had the pleasure of the owner coming to our table and sharing some history of the restaurant and his family commitments to serving the community, people from Los Alamitos Race Track, the jockeys, the owners, the fans and continuing to do so. We all were so full we passed on the dessert menu but if I could fit it into my leg I would have gone with the Bananas Foster.....so I guess I need to come back for more. And Dal Rae I will be back....thank you for everything and an amazing dining experience. Well done Dal Rae, Well done Bon appetitto

They started us off with warm bread and butter. Then right before the food actually comes, they give you another basket of bread but this time it's cheesey garlic bread. Every entree comes with veggies (not sure if it's seasonal/rotating but we all got broccoli) and a choice of side. I ordered the 10oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. We also ordered the seabass. Baked potato is served tableside. My prime rib was a little too overcooked. The seabass was pretty good. It was a thick and tender piece. Now why I'm giving it 2 stars.. our server. I caught her rolling her eyes a couple times as she's walking away from our table. I didn't think we were being complicated but apparently she did. It was not giving "steakhouse service" (but what do you expect, it's Pico Rivera). The food was also mediocre at best. Everything was under seasoned. Quite frankly, it reminded us of "cruise food." The ambience is dark and loud. Not sure if the rest of the restaurant was just as dark since they seated us in the bar. The tables are very close together and there's not much walking space. They have several private rooms for parties. The waiting area was pretty packed after we got seated. The crowd is definitely on the older side. Unless you grew up eating here, not worth a try

When we arrived, the hostess notified us that they were accepting walk ups and reservations didn't matter. We waited over an hour to be seated. Initially, they sat us separately at two booths. I got up and asked if they could come to our table because we have two diabetic family members. The host I spoke with said he would send someone, but there was some attitude. Our waiter came and was kind, but the whole experience has been awful. We waited over an hour and twenty five minutes after being seated for our food to arrive, and they didn't bring it all out at once. My pancakes ended up having a hair in them and had to be sent back. We have since asked for a manager to come to the table 2x, and they have not come. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
