We've eaten at Blackfin a few times over the years and I think my favorite part is their consistency. When it comes to seafood, that's more important than other cuisine. You can come in and have the same dish several times and it comes out looking, smelling and tasting the same every time. Can't say that for every place on the island. This trip, I popped in and sat at the bar since it was just me. They also have both indoor and outdoor table seating. The host was super friendly and directed me to the bar where I was immediately greeted with a menu and glass of water from the bartender. I ordered a delicious glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the seafood pasta. Another server quickly brought me a basket of fresh bread. The food here is delicious. The seafood pasta was a huge hit. In the past I've also had hogfish here which was excellent. Service is always great. I will say the price is high, but not unreasonable for Key West. Just be prepared for a steep check. If looking for a nice seafood dinner, this is worth the stop. read more

A higher end spot on Duval street offering classic as well as innovative bistro dishes. There were plenty of outdoor seating and I loved the ~vibey~ decor. The tuna tartare was a complete letdown. The tuna had a strange rubbery texture, and the entire thing had almost zero flavors. On the other hand, the seafood pasta blew my mind, with a creamy sauce that's not overly heavy and an ample amount of assorted seafood mixed in. The noodles were cooked to the perfect al-dente texture as well. Without a doubt our best dinner in Key West. This was within walking distance of where we were staying, and we decided to go here for some seafood. We were lucky the night that we went they had grilled octopus. It was prepared the best we've ever had it- perfectly grilled with a crisp outside, and a soft, but not chewy inside. It also came with a lightly fried avocado and the combination was perfection. I enjoyed the mussels served in the dreamiest butter and wine sauce too (yum). Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday evening dinner here. Although small on the inside, we found Blackfin charming with a great ambiance. The waiter was extremely helpful with his menu descriptions and suggestions and was on top of keeping our glasses full. All of our food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious! The menu had several items which really popped out at me, but I was determined to enjoy me some Key West shrimp so I doubled up on them with my app and entrée selections. For the app the special was a Shrimp bisque which came out just the way I like a bisque to be. It had just the right thickness, a light spice, plenty of shrimp and a slight sweetness to offset the spice. Very good stuff! Entrée wise I went with the Shrimp Provençal at $29 - key west pink shrimp in a garlic parsley butter, mashed potatoes & sautéed spinach. The portion size was perfect, the flavors were spot on and the shrimp were fresh, seasoned well and a good size. Everyone enjoyed their meals and overall I think this place was a homerun. They have a bar in the front where you can also sit, however we opted to go to the back patio area where there are also tables and chairs and yet another bar. The food was really good. I will get five stars but they're only getting four stars because of the shrimp bisque. Think about lobster bisque but instead shrimp. It was tasty and good however there was only a couple morsels of shrimp in it. Shrimp is cheaper than lobster so come on guys, add some more shrimp to it. This place is located on the northern end of Duvall (opposite of the tourist trap side). It says 2 $$ but I would out it more with 3 $$$. It was pricey. That said, the food was as I would expect for that level of cost. Most things felt like they were prepared just for you - unlike the other reviews I have in the same week. We were able to sit in the back and outside. The place feels like an old Italian restaurant with vines and lights. Our waitperson was knowledgeable and friendly. For appetizers, dinner and a beer for 2 and a toddler, it cost us with tip around $150. Again, that's pretty steep with no dessert. I would go back to the place - the food was good. read more

Stumbled upon Blackfin on Yelp while looking for a nice dinner in Key West, and it was the highlight of the evening! We had a reservation and were given the option to be seated inside or outside - we chose outside, of course, as the weather was beautiful that evening! Their patio has cute lights and tables well-spaced out. I opted for a grapefruit Radler since there were no cocktails, and my partner got a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. I loved that my drink was served in a chilled glass - perfect for the delicious Radler! I ordered one of the special appetizers, the scallops over corn salsa, along with the seafood pasta. We got complimentary bread and butter, which was delicious! The bread was nice and crisp. My partner got the wagyu burger, which was amazing! The burger was cooked well, and the truffle fries on the side were delicious. There was a mishap with the kitchen sending out the wrong dish for me, but our waiter was quick to get my pasta out for me. The seafood pasta was so good - creamy with a generous amount of seafood. The fish was cooked perfectly as well, so soft and flakey. For the kitchen mishap, our waiter even offered us a dessert on the house, which was incredibly kind. This place by far has THE best burger in key west! My fiancé and I were looking for a new place to eat as we do most times when we're down there. We stumbled across this place (with the help of Yelp of course! Haha) We each got a glass of wine and ordered the yellowfin tuna tartar. The tuna was nice and fresh and some of top tuna tartar we've had. We then ordered the wagyu beef burger and I couldn't have been more happy with that decision! We had it cooked to medium rare and it was perfect, but it's what they put on it that's got my mouth water as I write this. They used a buttered, slightly grilled brioche bun. They then topped off this magnificent mountain of meat with a smoked Gouda mousse and a bacon caramelized onion jam that was just to die for! Our server was able to answer questions about dishes, such as the origin of the lobster, and spices in sauces. Garbor was our server for our night at Blackfin. We had been in the heat most of the day fishing, so we opted for indoor seating. Looking for light food, the Organic Beet Salad and Smoked Salmon plate filled the bill. Garbor kept our glasses of water, Malbec and Pinot Grigio full. Just eat here less than 20 minutes ago the food was awful.... Head the warning Pasta over cooked Truffle fries were a joke greasy like they were in the corner of the fryer. Bread on burger was old and not fresh for 28 buck burger was dry and the toppings for the burger was a poor combination. The salad had no form or attempt of dressing The tempura green beans were basic and greasy must have been cooked in the same fryer with fries Beet salad was way over priced and you get dime sized pieces. $200 dollars later what a fucking joke. We have eaten amazing food On This visit and this was our last night. Informed the host and he acted surprise that someone would complain which is clearly an indicator he knows the food is poor and over priced. We were looking for a nice upscale place to enjoy dinner last night and Blackfin did not disappoint. We made reservations through Yelp and were promptly seated on the back patio when we arrived. The patio is lovely and tranquil. None of the street noise from Duval St spilled over onto the patio. The staff were attentive and kind as well, being prompt with our needs without feeling rushed out. We ordered two of the days specials, a diver scallop appetizer and the grouper entree with ribboned vegetables, rice, and a tarragon cream sauce. We also ordered a pound of curry mussels. The appetizer was quite small, but tasty, while the entree and mussels were reasonable in portion.
