Another rainy day had us heading indoors to sit at the counter along the front windows where we could watch the crowd on the streets. There are QR scans on all tables to access the menu and place your order. We ordered a smash burger and added a side of fries and small Ceasar salad. They bring your food to your table. There is a self serve drink bar with cups, ice, sodas, tea, lemonade etc as well as condiments. It was quick and easy. All the food was good and served hot. You seat yourself. There was an upstairs and a roof top but rain kept the crowd from the rooftop. It has easy access, street parking and a family friendly atmosphere. I did not like the fact that you can bring your dog into the restaurant.

Lunch at Blackstar Brewery in Whitefish, MT. Let me just cut to the chase. Lunch was excellent! It's a modern brew pub with a big menu. It has three levels, 1st and 2nd floors with a roof top. You pick a table and order from the bar giving them your table number or or from the table using a QR code. We each ordered a beer. I chose the Hazy Pale Ale and was happy with my choice. Then we ordered a Bavarian Pretzel for the table and it was OUTSTANDING! We each ordered the Cowboy Chicken Sandwich and it was excellent. The sandwich comes with char-grilled chicken breast, southern coleslaw, tangy BBQ sauce, pickled red onion, ob a potato bun. It was excellent. Blackstar is a fun venue with a wide variety of menu items. The food was excellent and the prices what you'd expect.

Blackstar Brewery was our first stop in the area. We really enjoyed it. You seat yourself and order from the QR code at the table. There's not too much to comment on as far as service goes with that, but it is quite efficient. It is a sizable restaurant with a 2nd floor and an outside rooftop area. We looked around for seating options outside but determined it was a bit too hot out. We made our way back downstairs and ordered at a table near the bar. We ordered the pretzel and smashburger with fries. The pretzel is ginormous! The smashburger was very solid. I was hungry after a day of travel and devoured it. This is a cool spot and I'd recommend giving Blackstar Brewery a try if you are in the area.

Stopped here for dinner and they have an interesting set up. Seat yourself and order from the table or bar. Couldn't order a flight from my table so had to go to bar and order it all. Then had to keep going back to the bar to order more beer on the same table not the most convenient. Other than that, the guac was amazing, wings were very good, and the chopped salad was awesome. Beer was on point and not too strong, unless you wanted that! Would definitely go back!

Surprisingly awesome salad for a brewery. My friend had the burger & fries and really liked it. I was here on a busy day and the seating was a bit chaotic, but overall great vibe here and the beer was good!

10/10 spot to eat and have a good time! Great setup indoors where you can find a table, order and get food quickly. But also it's great food! Everything we ordered was throughly enjoyed--even specifically the chicken pot pie talked about days after visiting! If you are looking for a high quality place to grab a bite to eat or a drink, I would highly suggest Blackstar!

We were here pretty much every single night we were in town. I'm slightly ashamed to admit. But this place is great! They have 3 floors so there's something for everyone. You can sit inside, outside, rooftop whatever you like. At $12 for a pitcher of blonde ale you really can't beat it. The food and service are all great! Can't go wrong.

I loved our stop at Blackstar Brewery! We had lunch here on our way to Glacier Park. We came for a late lunch and there was plenty of seating. We chose to sit on the first floor but there are two floors and a third floor roof top with outdoor views. You can stay where and either order at the bar or order through a QR code. We shared a pretzel for our starter. The pretzel was soft and great with the cheese. I had a smash burger and really enjoyed it. The burger was juicy and I liked the sauce as well. Service was great and we didn't wait long for anything. We would return if we are back in Whitefish!

Got the Bacon Smash burger w/ handcut fries & this whole combo did not disappoint. Staff is very accommodating & friendly. I'm not a craft beer drinker however I've come to like sours & they had one I enjoyed if in Whitefish drop in the get a really good burger & a brew!

DO NOT RECOMMEND HORRIBLE SERVICE It is exceptionally rare that I leave poor reviews. Most of the reviews I leave are 4-5 stars. Not today. The location is right downtown Whitefish. It looks great inside and out. That's all the nice things I can say. When we arrived, we wanted to sit on the rooftop terrace. When we got there, nearly all the tables were dirty. There was no staff anywhere, except one that was busy serving drinks one floor below and two more serving drinks on the ground floor. No big deal....I've worked in restaurants before and know they can get busy (even though it was 3pm and not full at all). I found some napkins, got them wet and cleaned off my own table. All orders are done via a QR code. There is no one to ask questions to about the menu. We keyed in our order and I was surprised to see that the app they use asks for a gratuity, for table service (default to 20%), before getting your drinks and food....and without having any servers! Knowing that towns like Whitefish survive from summer tourism (and with a background in restaurant management) I decided to still leave a 20% tip. When our food came, there were no napkins. We asked for utensils and the food runner (not server) was clearly annoyed and gave us a sarcastic remark before getting them. It was obvious that we ruined his day. Forget about getting water served. You have to get it yourself. The food was decent, but not great (the queso dip was a yellow, solidified sludge). If you are going to ask for a tip, with 20% being your default setting, try having some service. Your establishment has NONE. I had to clean my own table, get my own napkins (which I found on a table of people who had left) and track down a glass of water. Getting utensils was an inconvenience to your staff. At no point did anyone check on us to see how our food/experience was. It is clear Blackstar does not care about their customers. They only care about their money. Go to one of the MANY other places in town that actually care about you.

So good!! We sat on the "roof" which gave a beautiful view of the mountains. It's pretty much order on your own, but the staff is efficient and the food came out SO quickly. The smash burger was delicious and you have to get the queso as an appetizer! read more

We are camping outside whitefish. I wanted to come to the Great Northern Brewing Company. I loved their beer while living in CA. Unfortunately they closed about 5 years ago. Found Blackstar in its place. Place was packed. My wife and I got 2 seats near the bar. Had to order and pay for drinks through an app. It was very easy and the bar service was quick. To order from the menu, my wife had to walk to a counter and order and pay for food. 4 minutes after ordering, our food arrived. She ordered the Smash Burger. I had the fried chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. The beer is Jeremiah Johnson's and is brewed in house. The beer I ordered was not really that great. That caused the loss of a star. I was sad that Great Northern was gone. Blackstar will do very well in Whitefish. read more

Great distillery/bar. Owner is a great person, who also is the distiller. Their Cinnamon whiskey is the very best I've ever had. Not like the crap sold in stores. The gin is also certificate. Bartenders are all the bomb. Great place a must to visit. read more

We had a great experience and delicious food at blackstar yesterday!! Will Walton was the best server I have ever had in my entire life. I will not ever return if he is not working there anymore. Will Walton also really contributed to the ambiance. Also, Edward and Edward and Spencer and pen did a good job too. Go off Edward and Edward and Spencer and pen!! One comment I have is I wish the smash burger had cheddar cheese instead of American cheese :-/ I don't like American cheese. read more

One of the best restaurants in Whitefish, and certainly the best lunch option. It can take a little long, but the ambiance is fabulous. The staff is so kind and accommodating, though once again sometimes can take a little long. You cannot go wrong with any of the food options especially the pesto pizza, smash burger and Caesar salad. And to top it of enjoy a spectacular beer by Jeremiah Johnson. Highly recommend. read more

First off- the food was good, the bartenders were great we all enjoyed our beer choices. The issue for us was this was a seat yourself place and upon doing so, we were directed (by signage) to use the website or go to the bar to order your food and drinks. We tried the online ordering but our cellphone service was not working so I went in hunt for a menu. I found one (and only one) for our party of four to share. The menu had the Wi-Fi code that was not provided at the table so we started an online order but it did not go through so we ended up at the bar to order. The other couple got their food first and my sandwich came after but not my husband's. Any food delivered was a drop and run situation so no explanation on the delay for the last meal. My husband had to finally walk up to the food window to ask where it was and was told it was coming. We were all done eating by the time his arrived. We had no one ask how anything was and when we had a problem no assigned person to ask. In the meantime, there were numerous food runners standing at the same time and waiting for orders to come out and it would seem more helpful to have one work the floor to answer questions and check in with customers. read more

Took an hour and a half to get food and stayed to serve other people and practically forgot about us. Also the food wasn't even that good. But since there was a roof top the noise was ok but 1st and 2nd floor were loud. read more

We were starving when we walked in. Place was basically full. We assumed it would be an hour before our food arrived. We ordered a couple beers. The IPA was fantastic - so good I bought the glass it came in. The Honeyweizen was amazing. My wife bought her glass too. lol. Boom. Hot food on the table. 20 minutes after ordering. We were shocked. Smash burger was delicious. My wife got a pizza and loved it. Employees were very nice. Place was super clean. No complaints about anything. Great food and great beer. 5 stars. read more

Food was ok, service was terrible. Soda was out of carbonation, the poor girl didn't have a clue how to fix it. They brought out a burnt pizza and asked if it would be ok burnt or if we wanted them to make us a new on. Then one person in our party received their burger after we had all finished our meal and they never brought out the fries after we asked twice. The bad part is that we had already tipped as they have you pay and tip when you order. read more

Such a wonderful spot. Great location, great food, great service, and great ambiance/vibes. The food was delicious, highly suggest the smash burger, caesar salad, and of course the beer, but that's all I've tried so far. If you live in Whitefish or are just visiting, this brewery is a must, haven't had food this good in town. Also, love the Blackstar merch. read more

While in town for a ski trip we decided to check out Blackstar for dinner and beers. The beer was great; the amber ale and the honey hefeweizen were both very tasty. Met Cheyenne and she gave us some food recs (all the different pizzas were great) and told us some other things to check out while in town. Will absolutely come here again on our next visit. read more

The standout is Shyla for the day shift staff! Otherwise, it's 3-4ish stars for the bartenders w/ arms folded as if they were remiss in doing their jobs or somehow doing the customers a favor by being here- also on your cellphones has got to go! Evening shift needs a Shyla boost of energy and personality (or ability to interact with the community). Great place and food. read more

Great vibe! Walls of windows make u feel like your outside but can enjoy controlled climate! Beer is cold and selection was great! Everything we had was excellent from the smash burger to the pretzel the queso and the guacamole. Would make it a regular stop for sure! read more

Obviously still a few kinks to work out as they haven't been open that long. We went for lunch. We ordered the smashburger, Caesar salad and a margarita pizza. The smashburger burger came out first, right away actually, my husband said it was good. Then the Caesar came out and we finished that however the Margarita pizza was a no show. We kept asking about it and they kept saying it was up next. But we noticed that people who ordered after us were receiving their pizzas so figured there was something wrong. Finally, after 30 minutes waiting for the pizza that never came and all the other food had been eaten. We asked to be reimbursed for our pizza which never arrived. They did give us back our money but the manager was obviously put out and didn't apologize or try to make it right in any way. The bartender did apologize. read more

Service was nonexistent. No acknowledgement that we were there. Ordered beers by QR code. Entered our table number online. After quite some time, we saw or beers carried to other tables in restaurant. The beers got returned to the bar. We went to the bar to get them. They have a very nice facility. But they really need some help with service. The beer is good. We left there and picked up some beer at a convenient store. read more

Blackstar is pretty stellar. I particularly liked the pizza and assorted beers but if we're talking ambiance that was solid as well. Staff was friendly and helpful! Staff member Hartley (very chill hostess) was particularly gracious and elegant. Also noteworthy... Maggie another staff member helped save my brother from choking! Safe to say the pizza was almost to die for... (get it?) Our family would rate it 10 stars (black stars) if possible! Definitely worth checking out!!! read more

We were seated within five minutes in a room with a view of the street. It was raining outside, and it felt nice and cozy inside the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and checked in on how we were doing regularly. We ordered the Tot-chos (half order to share among six people) and I also got a huckleberry soda for myself as well as the bison (classic) burger with sweet potato fries. For dessert, we shared two scoops of huckleberry ice cream (from Sweet Peaks), the bread pudding and the beignets. I loved the Tot-chos, and the half order was honestly a pretty big size already! The huckleberry soda was pretty sweet (I think it had 41 grams of sugar), but I don't regret trying it. The bison burger wasn't bad, it definitely tasted similar to beef, but it was a huge burger so I couldn't finish it. The sweet potatoes were also delicious. In terms of the dessert, I had gone to Sweet Peaks already and liked their huckleberry flavor a lot, so I was excited to see them on the menu. People at my table loved the bread pudding. I thought the beignets were not bad, but they weren't as good as the other desserts.

What I discovered wasn't just excellent craft beer--it was some of the most memorable brewery food I've ever had. Back Slope took ordinary menu items and turned them into something extraordinary. The pulled pork sandwich and fried chicken sandwich were simply exceptional. The chicken was hand-cut, brined in pickle juice, carefully breaded, and fried to a perfect golden crust. The sauce brought everything together perfectly. Those sandwiches weren't just good--they were the reason I looked forward to returning. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit I discovered that both signature sandwiches are gone. The pulled pork sandwich has been removed from the menu, and the fried chicken has been replaced with commercially prepared chicken. We ordered other menu items, and while they were perfectly acceptable, they lacked the creativity and quality that made Back Slope feel special. What was once an unforgettable dining experience has become, in my opinion, just another brewery with decent food. The service, however, remains excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and greeted us with a genuine smile, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I understand that restaurants evolve and sometimes difficult business decisions have to be made. Still, it's disappointing when the very dishes that set a place apart disappear. Back Slope still has good beer and great service, but the unique culinary experience that once made it worth going out of my way to visit no longer seems to be there. I sincerely hope they consider bringing those signature sandwiches back, because they were truly something special.

The placement of the speakers is not right over the bar area which makes this nice since you can hear each other & talk to the bartender as well without shouting. Now for the food, it is awesome! The beer queso dip is made with their Jeremiah Johnson Pale Ale & topped off with chorizo, shredded cheese & thinly sliced green onion. Their smash burger is loaded with 2 patties, 2 pieces of cheese, sautéed onions, pickle slice & their signature Blackstar sauce on a potato bun. Oh my word, to die for! Truly, you can't go wrong.
