Arrived, at about 430 pm. Hardly anyone inside, seated quickly. Server came and got drink order. Arrived with drinks and took order. I decided to try the chicken pot pie. Requested no cucumber on salad, and it was brought out with just lettuce. Few minutes later, server asked if I wanted tomatoes or anything else. Little late if you ask me, but I ate some of it anyway. About 20 minutes from ordering our food came to the table. Chicken pot pie looked nice, but was over salted, and there was one bite I should have spit out, but I didn't, so I'll probably be sick later. Just not what I hoped for. The portion was small, so I'll have to go get something else to eat after leaving here. read more

July 2018 Went for breakfast and it was very good. I got the chicken and waffle. The chicken was so tender and good crunchy breading. The meal was more than enough to fill you up. The little one got French toast which was really good too. Overall veey good breakfast. read more

We've been here multiple times and happened to see a Facebook post that drew us in tonight. Friday's specials, which included a NY strip with seafood and a shrimp tempura appetizer, sounded really amazing. The shrimp tempura was not even close to amazing. It made us all sad as we were really excited and all love shrimp tempura. The tempura was not even close to crispy and had no flavor. The peanut sauce was good but couldn't save the shrimp in a wet blanket. We tried the savory Cajun cheesecake for the first time (we've had the other before) and it was creamy and delicious. Two of us got the chicken divine which was crispy and delicious as usual. The steak divine and cheeseburger with bacon were also enjoyed. Sides of fries were great. The side of broccoli was terrible. One bite was too much. It felt and tasted like it had been steaming for days. I don't know what all it was seasoned with but hard pass. After drinking about half of a glass of soda at the table it was discovered to have something dark green about nickel sized stuck hard to it. Yum. Stopped in the other night while out in Milton conducting business. Charming little place. Restaurant is built from an old large home it seems. The Fried Artichoke app was great. The homemade Blue cheese dressing was excellent. The Steak Divine was eeehh, and the Meatloaf was ok but the gravy could be made from scratch instead of tasting like a boullion cube. Came in solo on a Sunday afternoon for brunch chicken and waffles. The waffle had the perfect amount off fluff and taste. Unfortunately, the chicken was disappointing. Our server, Samantha, was very astute, put forth genuine extra effort. The Lumpia piping hot, flakey tasty. My wife had the pot pie and enjoyed it. But I felt sorry for the folks sitting near the musical duo playing outside. Rather than accompanying dinner, they were performing as if in concert.....pretty loud, so-so voice! This was my first visit and I WILL return. The lumpia appetizer was delicious and a big proportion too. I requested a BLT and they accommodated my request. Bacon was cooked just right, not wimpy or greasy. BUT the absolute best was our server Bonnie. She is fantastic! She was knowledgeable about the menu, chatted and kidded around, and still took VERY GOOD care of me. We stopped here based on reviews and the fact that they had a Beef Wellington on the menu. My review is solely a 3 due to our waitress being nice and the pizza. I ordered the ribs with grits and Mac and cheese. The ribs were ok- not bad.... the Gouda grits were dry and bland- and the Mac and cheese was mediocre. My husband ordered the beef Wellington and was told it's a great option. The meat was extremely chewy and almost inedible on parts of it- definitely a poor quality cut. My son ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap and it was inedible. The chicken was so dry you couldn't even chew it. When we expressed that it was not good in the least we were even offered an apology or acknowledged at all. My other son ordered the Hawaiian pizza and it was great. Horrible food and no choices. Went there for Father's Day. Ordered a portobello mushroom omelette, there were chewy hard pieces of something in there. Come to find out they were out of portobello mushrooms and substituted with something else without letting customer know ahead of time. The other omelette we ordered was nasty as well with a couple of tiny pieces of ham in there. But it advertised a 10%price increase because of food cost increase?????plus they said at the moment they only had a few choices on their menu. Over the years I have enjoyed visiting my sister and brother in law in Milton Florida. I would always take them out one evening to the blackwater Bistro because it was a fun and enjoyable atmosphere and the food was great. Well no longer. I have dined my last time there. The past two occasions just were no good. The previous time we had brunch. Over cooked eggs, cold and soggy sweet potato fries and extremely slow service. This last time I had the shepherds pie; it was inedible. Greasy is an understatement and after three bites I was done. The waitress was very good and sweet and very apologetic . But the chef didn't come out and ask about his poor performance. That dish should not be served to anyone. I am extremely disappointed in the Blackwater, it used to be my favorite place to come. Also, the fans are always running at a high speed so if your food is hot , it won't be for longs and you'll practically catch a chill. The staff are " not allowed" to turn them down so goodbye to what was once a great place to eat. But over the past few years has definitely tanked. read more

We decided to try Blackwater Bistro for brunch after church. It's situated along the river in a converted house, so seating inside and outside is a little tight. The people behind me were constantly bumping into my chair. We were seated immediately but it took awhile for a server to greet us. After placing our order, we didn't see our server until after our food had been delivered which took over 30 minutes. My husband was interested in trying a Bloody Mary after seeing a nearby table receive one but couldn't locate our server to order one, so he decided to forego trying it. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of bacon and Texas toast. The grits were good with the spinach and Gouda sauce. The shrimp was under cooked and by undercooked I mean it was basically raw. The Texas toast never arrived and the bacon was so thin it was transparent and more like a rubber band than crispy bacon he requested. I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of powdered sugar and a side order of grits. The chicken breast was tough, bland and tasted like old oil. The waffles basically tasted like a hard biscuit, very little sweetness. I would have preferred an Eggo Waffle over the ones I received. I thought it was intuitive that I ordered the powdered sugar until I tasted it. It had a metallic taste like it had been sitting in an old tin can. The grits were ok, but nothing to write home about. I left the restaurant hungry and need a snack when I got home. Overall, this experience was underwhelming and we won't be back. read more

I have visited this restaurant many times. I hope this is a one bad night. We got food to take next door to eat. My wife made them recook her over cooked steak. I ordered to take home and got the medium rare Filet with crab sauce and shrimp topper. Shrimp is over cooked as was the so called filet. I've also never had a filet cut up for me in 4 to 6 inch strips with gristle. Filet should not have gristle. As you can see it's well done. Bread and garlic mashed potatoes are my dinner. Mixed vegetables are mush as well. May not go back. Disappointed!! This has been a spot for us even tho it's a veteran owned business that doesn't do a military discount. read more

For an appetizers we opted to go with a side salad with house made cheddar-blue cheese dressing, (I know-right), and Cajun Creole Gumbo soup. Presentation for the salad was nice but the dressing was okay. I guess we expected something awesome. The soup was very flavorful, mostly okra, chicken and sausage. The roux was light, so the broth was much lighter, not as dark with the depth in nutty flavor you would expect from a gumbo roux. Also the amount of rice in the serving was light but I like more rice with my gumbo. The soup made you hungry for more. Don't expect seafood in it! My wife ordered the Spinach Florentine Pasta with Shrimp and I had the Creole Grouper with Sautéed Shrimp with steamed broccoli and Mac and Cheese. The Spinach Florentine with Pesto Alfredo was mild. She add additional salt, pepper and red pepper to here liking. Hint of Garlic played in the background. We both agree it would be better the next day because the flavors will have a chance to meld together. My Grouper was good with the grilled shrimp. It had a tomato based creole seasoning. I, too, added additional salt and pepper. The steamed broccoli was perfect and the Mac and cheese was lovely. I ate it all! We shared the house made Coconut Cream Pie. The flaky coconut was nice with the whipped cream. Great with coffee or another wine! We came during "happy hour" and had several drinks. The wine was great. We sat outside for the ambience. The inside looked wonderful, especially at the bar location. Great place to meet and socialize with people. The server was prompt, knowledgeable, and honest.
