Excellent food and service. My daughter & I both had salads. She had the Cobb, which was wonderful and I had the Salmon salad which was very good. My granddaughter had a Cheeseburger which was a double patty and very tasty. It was too big for her to finish, her fries were also quite good. My grandson ordered Macaroni & Cheese even though it was not on the kids menu and it was what I would expect from a high end restaurant or old family recipe. I ate here for dinner tonight for the first time. A lot of things on the menu sounded good, but I chose the steak and eggs (long day at work. Don't judge me lol). My steak was perfectly cooked. Sooo flavorful. The potatoes that come with it are also delicious. Eggs were cooked well and they give you a good assortment of butter and jams for your toast (choice of toast, bagel, or English muffin). As simple as the meal sounds, there's a surprising amount of places that just can't pull it off. It definitely impresses when a restaurant can execute it flawlessly. My wife and go to the piano bar regularly for happy hour and music (which is great btw). Most times we order a late supper from Blake's. It is always great food! You have to try the Quesadillas! The burgers are fantastic & huge. The junk fries will feed four easily. Prices are $$ which is normal for the area, but great for a San Luis eatery. Service is always top notch (and in the bar). I would give 0 stars, but that's not an option. Me and my boyfriend were staying in Galveston for the weekend at the San Luis. The San Luis was great, but this place needs help. We decided to enjoy the breakfast buffet Saturday. We were seated at a table. After waiting a bit at our table for a waiter to come by and get our drink order, we got hungry so figured we would go to the buffet and then order a beverage. Besides being subpar food, nobody ever came to our table. We completely finished eating. Luckily I had a bottle of water in my purse we shared. It was a pretty awful experience. When we finished eating, we went to the hostess to ask how we get a check. She replied with, "ask your server". Ha. We never had a server. So when we told her that she looked perplexed. She didn't apologize, but did give us one free buffet. In my opinion, the whole thing should have been comped. A dozen servers passed us and nobody would even make eye contact with us. It was like we were just in the way. Since we felt so welcome after this nightmare, we just wanted to get out. We should have just left...Clearly nobody had noticed us in the first place and we didn't eat very much. Maybe because of how thirsty we were. Terrible. If I ever come back to the San Luis, I will definitely skip this place. So should you. read more

After a very terrible experience at The Grotto we walked down to Blake's where unlike The Grotto we were greeted with a smile. We explained our situation to the manager, who was very sympathetic. We were seated right away and presented with complimentary beverages. Aaron was our server he was very understand and kind! We ordered the salon which was amazing!! At Aaron suggestion we had the steak house creme brûlée and it did not disappoint! The service we received here more than made up for The Grottos short comings! It's your average breakfast, prices are pretty average for a hotel breakfast. Wait staff was attentive.

The wife and I saw the pre-set menu for Galveston Restaurant Week and decided to try Blake's on Saturday night, 1/6/18. In short almost everything went well with staff, facilities, and food. The major concern was cold dishes. The chicken tortilla soup was good, except the portions touching the bowl and thus was cold. The chef did his job writing a fine recipe, the cook executed it properly except the bowl was way cold. Same with the snapper entree. I'm not even complaining about the snapper tail I got(cause the wife got the front-end) but the herb rice was chilled by the plate and the fish was barely warm. Again the chef's recipe was fine and the cooking was done fairly(not enough salt for me, but not a point of contention). The cold dinnerware was the problem. And finally the real reason we chose Blake's was the Cast-iron Macadamia Nut Bread-pudding was a fine recipe but the small cast-iron skillet was as cold as the outdoor temperature(too cold to hold the hand more than a second). It was topped with a huge scoop of ice cream and a bourbon sauce on the side. I didn't care for the bourbon sauce, which is unusual for me. I write all of this for one point. You got to get a dinner-ware warmer and PUT THE DAMN PLATES IN THE STOVE FOR 30-40 SECONDS BEFORE PLATING. read more

Our experience was HORRIBLE. Our waiter, Neville, had a poor attitude from the start. He was impatient and didn't listen. He didn't refill our drinks and we had to wait long intervals for him to check on us. Now the food - the breakfast bar looked only slightly better than what you'd find at a Hampton Inn, so we opted for the menu. We waited quite a while for our food, which we expected since one of our party ordered steak and eggs, but for some reason, the child in our party got their meal a full 15-20 minutes before any of the rest of us got our food. My sisters eggs were cold when our food was finally delivered and my omelet was way overdone. Very disappointing after reading such promising reviews on Yelp. The table beside us also had a poor experience and had to ask the manager for their check as Neville had been gone for quite a while from them, too. read more

Staying at the hotel and popped down for breakfast. They seemed a bit discombobulated when we asked for a table and that should have been a clue. They were slow to service and then could not even deliver the meals for our party of 4 at the same time. 10 minutes after delivering 3 of them, the 4th never showed up. The toast for 2 of the 3 did not show up and we had a re requested, then they got delivered, but with no Jam or butter, which took some hunting down to find someone. They struggled to refill coffee and Water. The apologies we got is they were slammed with guests. At one point it looked like they pulled in Management, Front Desk staff and Bell service to help. Got a refund on the one dish they did not deliver with the rest, but that should never happen and nothing was offered while the guest was waiting for it. We skipped the next morning, since there appeared to be more guests in the hotel and they probably could not handle it. read more

Great food, Great service, Great atmosphere. Coming from Dallas, we are used to restaurants being open late. We showed up at 8:45 PM on a weekday not realizing they closed at 9 PM. We were warmly greeted and welcomed in. They have 3 televisions, 2 were sports, one was on Fox News. (I guess they are trying to attract wealthy, big tipping, conservatives.) Our party ordered, steak, a sandwich, and a chicken salad. All were excellent. Service was efficient and friendly. Our waitress checked back several times to make sure we were okay. She refilled our Cokes without us even asking. They do have seating away from the televisions if you prefer that. Very happy, we will come back soon. read more

Atmosphere is cozy with a nice view of the pool. The service was adequate as they were friendly and attentive. The food was uneven among our party of six. All our food was served at the same time and it showed, some plates were warm while others hot. Three servings of gumbo were all warm and inconsistent in the amount of seafood. Quality of food varied from plate to plate. My chicken fried steak was overcooked, warm, and the breading fell off. A plate of ribs was cooked perfectly. Fish tacos were mediocre. All portions were quite large and prices reasonable for a four star hotel. read more

I didn't expect much from this place because it was a hotel restaurant but it was excellent. We had the breakfast buffet, which had made to order omelettes & waffles, breakfast meats, pastries, several types of scrambled eggs and an amazing lox/dill cream dish setup. Service was wonderful. We had a 1 year old with us and we were well taken care of. It is a little pricey but kids eat free and it's not near the cost of the weekend brunch buffets in Houston. My boyfriend and I came in to this place and were greeted by a woman whom we wish would have been our waitress instead of the rude lady we had by the name of jade. We automatically felt shunned because we weren't dressed in fancy attire and we were constantly being starred at by not only staff but guest alike not only because of our attire but the fact that my boyfriend is black and was the only black man in the whole place. We ordered shrimp cocktail that she didn't explain wasn't like traditional shrimp cocktail. We still ate it and waited some more until our drinks finally came. I informed the server that I didn't care for the drink she instantly rolled her eyes, suggested another drink and that's when I said no thank you you can bring our checks please. She brought the check with the untouched drink still on the ticket. I politely asked her to take it off because I didn't want to pay for something I didn't drink nor like and also told her I'm not trying to give her any trouble at all. She got a rude tone and said well did the manager come over here to speak with you again? And I told her that no manager has been over here at all. She rolled her eyes yet again and said well I told her to come over here so.. as she proceeded to walk off. The manager finally made her way to us and seemed aggitatated As if we were causing such a huge fuss. She snatched the check and said she would take it off after giving an ugly scowl. Never in my life have I ever felt so disrespected and uncomfortable at a restaurant. I have plenty of money. Just because I don't dress up and waste money on expensive clothes because I'd rather be comfortable and eat in peace I felt like we were just treated wrong. Y'all should treat people with more damn respect. Never will I come back here. read more
